Miss Joyce Michelle Warnock
Miss Joyce Michelle Warnock, 15, of Bartow, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, in a car accident.

Miss Warnock was a 10th grader at Jefferson County High School.

She was a member of the junior varsity cheerleading squad, yearbook staff, soccer and cross country.

Miss Warnock was a member of First Baptist Church in Louisville.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, in the Jefferson County High School gymnasium at 10:30 a.m. Larry Montgomery will be officiating.

Visitation will be held after the memorial service at the high school.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Yasuei Wakamatsu.

Survivors include her father, Robert Warnock of Bartow; mother, Ritsuko Warnock of California; paternal grandparents, Ronald and Eleanor Warnock of Bartow; maternal grandmother, Takako Wakamatsu of Japan; and her brother Quinn Warnock of Bartow.

James Funeral Home, Wrens, is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Murray
Mr. Robert Murray, 82, of Wrens died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007.

Mr. Murray was preceded in death by a daughter, Glindle “Poon” Williams.

The funeral was Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church with the Rev. Michael G. Ephraim Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mamie Lee Murray; one daughter, Alicia Murray; six sons, Larry (Josephine) Murray Sr., Freddie (Janice) Murray Sr., Edward (Martha) Murray, Ira (Angela) Murray, Robert L. (Tincy) Murray and George Gail Murray Sr.; a grandson he raised as his own, Larry (Mary) Murray Jr.; 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Charles F. Albea
Mr. Charles F. Albea, 45, of Gibson died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Albea, a native of Richmond County, was a member of the Briar Creek Saddle Club. He was a truck driver for 15 years.

The funeral was Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. at Bethel UMC with the Revs. Marion Jay and Sam Collins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Lee Nissen Albea; his son, James (Rebecca) Albea, Gibson; his daughter, Hope Albea, Gibson; stepdaughter, Lastenia Tapley, Augusta; his mother, Mrs. Josephine Shelton, Gibson; six brothers, Ronnie Albea, Hephzibah, Bennie Albea, McBean, Robert Albea, Gibson, Wade Albea, Hephzibah, Jerry Albea, Stapleton, and Emory Shelton, Hephzibah; two stepbrothers, Cecil Shelton, Stapleton, and Emory Shelton, Hephzibah; two stepsisters, Elain Atkins, Hephzibah, and Genifer Cross, Augusta; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jason Webb, Dennis Britt, Justin Rowland, Jimmy Akers, James Atkinson and Jerome Vaughner.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William Wendell Franks
Mr. William Wendell Franks, 65, of Louisville died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007.

Mr. Franks, a native of Johnson County, was the son of the late William P. Franks and the late Tempie Powell Franks. He was the owner/operator of the Clean-N-Wash Dry Cleaners and Laundry and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Louisville. He was a former Louisville City Councilman, former Deputy Coroner of Jefferson County and a former member of the Louisville Lions Club. He is a US Air Force veteran.

A memorial service was held Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Louisville with the Rev. Beau Taylor officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Carole Heuston Franks; children, Lynn (Daniel) Sippel, Cartersville, Sharon Lee (Jay) Sasser, Louisville, and Sandra (Scott) Bussell, Warthen; a sister, Mary Ruth (Curtis) Smith, Greenwood, SC; a brother, Robert Madison (Ann) Franks, Greenwood, SC; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Louisville or to the American Cancer Society.

May and Smith Funeral Directors, Sandersville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Sue Parish
Miss Betty Sue Parish, 80, of Stapleton died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at Spanish Oaks Retreat in Savannah.

Miss Parish was a member of Stapleton Baptist Church. She retired with over 50 years in banking at Bank of Stapleton. She was the daughter of the late W.G. Parish and Alma Newsome Parish and the sister of the late Marie Odum.

Graveside services were Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. at Stapleton Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Bill Daniel officiating.

Memorials may be made to Stapleton Baptist Church, 360 Harvey St., Stapleton, GA 30823, or First Baptist Church of Garden City, 35 Nelson Ave., Garden City, GA 31408.

Josie Brown
Mrs. Josie Brown of Augusta died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a son, Welton Brown.

The funeral was Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Christopher Durden officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Josephine (Theodis) Hudson, Carolyn Birt, Annie Brown and Brenda (Ronnie) Thomas; two brothers, Willie (Betty) Ghant and Alden (Lue Ellen) Ghant; four sisters-in-law; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Eugene Jones
Mr. Eugene Jones, 40, of Wadley died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007.

The funeral was Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle Jones; daughters, Qiana Jones and Monecia Jones; mother, Cora Hill; brothers, Darrell Jones and Greg Whigham; mother-in-law, Anna Bell Lordge; father-in-law, Jeffery (Mildred) Mack Sr.; maternal grandparents, Henry and Mary Allen.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Laurance Galinat Loomis
Mr. Laurance Galinat Loomis, 87, of Louisville died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007.

Mr. Loomis, a native of Manchester, Conn., was a son of the late Arthur Emory and Laura Myra Galinet Loomis. He retired after many years of service as a fleet mechanic with the City of Clastonbury, Conn. He is preceded in death by his wife Reta Andrews Loomis.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Survivors include a son, Daniel M. Loomis, Louisville; a daughter, Dana (James) Tam, Louisville; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James “Buddy” Rooks
Mr. James “Buddy” Rooks, 82, of Augusta died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at the VA Medical Center.

Mr. Rooks was a member of American Legion Post 63 and was on the SRP Credit Union Board. He served as a deacon for many years at Fleming Baptist Church and was a current member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. He was preceded in death by his father, James Lamar Rooks; his mother, Pauline O. Faglier Rooks; a brother, John Owens Rooks; and sister, Joyce Dixon.

Graveside services were Sept. 5 at noon at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Dr. Jacob Malone officiating.

Survivors include his daughters, Donna Lynne Gatch, Elaine Rooks and Carol Rooks Perara; brothers, Etheridge Lamar Rooks and Lloyd Rooks; sisters, Willadean Kuykendall, Virginia Stanfield, Jimmie Clark, Sonya Usry and Shelby Harden; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home, 1101 15th St., Augusta, GA 30901.

Gerald Martin “Jerry” Bullock
Retired Army Lt. Col. Gerald Martin “Jerry” Bullock, 68, of Bunnlevel, NC, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007

Mr. Bullock, a native of Clinton, Okla., was a Vietnam veteran. He was the son of the late Paul Rice and Doris Medbury Rice. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Black.

The funeral was Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. in Flat Branch Presbyterian Church, Bunnlevel. Burial was in the McRae-Black family cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Bullock; a son, Jay and Mary Bullock, Avera; three daughters, Beth B. and Charles Turner, Sandersville, Jerri Lynn and Samuel Bender, Mitchell, and Kelley B. and Angelo Hasapis, Anderson Creek, NC; two brothers, Jim and Flo Bullock, Littleton, Colo., and Charles and Cathy Bullock, Albuquerque, NM; and nine grandchildren.

Adcock Funeral Home, Spring Lake, NC, was in charge of the arrangements.

Janet Christian
Mrs. Janet Christian, 42, of Stapleton died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at Heartland Hospice Home.

Mrs. Christian was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. She was a teacher at Wrens Baptist Child Development Center.

The funeral was Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, Wrens, with the Rev. John Jenkins officiating. Burial was in Reedy Creek Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Christian; two sons, Christopher Vaughan and Jonathan Christian; a brother, Franklin Vaughan; two sisters, Brenda Vaughan and Barbra Jo White; and two grandchildren, Michaela and Justin Vaughan.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Christian, Christopher Vaughan, Jonathan Christian, Sam Christian, Matt Owens, Robert Parker, Freddie Christian and Michael Kippert.

Honorary pallbearers were Frankie Vaughan, Allen Vaughan and Albin Christian.

Jewell F. Smith
Mrs. Jewell F. Smith, 88, of Louisville died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007.

Mrs. Smith, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Amos and Willie Smith Forehand. She was a retired dental assistant. She was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church and the Fedilis Sunday school class. She is preceded in death by husband Hoke Y. Smith; son-in-law, Donald “Don” F. Palmer Sr.; and a grandson, Roger Wayne Mathis Jr.

The funeral was Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at Louisville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Smith Palmer, Thomson, and Martha (Wayne) Mathis; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the Louisville First Baptist Church or to Trinity Hospice.

Alicia Darien
Ms. Alicia Darien of Louisville died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, in Savannah.

Ms. Darien was the daughter of the late Leroy Darien and Mary Habersham Darien. She was educated in the Jefferson County and Chatham County Public Schools. She attended Sandersville Technical Institution. At an early age she joined the Jones Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral was Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. at Jones Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Dudley presiding and the Rev. Johnny C. Owens officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Ka’Lisha Credle, Louisville; one sister, Wendy (Wallace) Mason, Louisville; surrogate parents, Alice Parker, Bristol, Pa., Larry Sabor, Wilmington, NC, Margaret Owens and Julia H. Wilcher, Savannah; her sharing friend, Tommy Howard, Wrens; and many other relatives.
