Hazel McGahee Lamb
Mrs. Hazel McGahee Lamb, 76, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007.

Mrs. Lamb, born and raised in Jefferson County, was a resident of Winter Park, Fla., for many years.

A private memorial will be held in Winter Park, Fla.

Survivors include her husband, William L. Lamb; two sons, W. Larry Lamb, Schamsburg, Ill., and Terry Lamb, Oviedo, Fla.; two sisters, Wilma McGahee Snellgrove, North Augusta, SC, and Joyce McGahee Quantry, Louisville; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Conerstone Hospice, 108 West America St., Orlando, FL 32801.

Nancy Spencer
Mrs. Nancy Spencer, 67, of Stapleton died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2007.

Mrs. Spencer was a native of Florence, Ky. She was a Catholic and a homemaker.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at the residence, 543 East Main Street in Stapleton.

Survivors include her husband, Albert Spencer; a daughter, Julie Anne Doyle and her fiancée Kenny Brewer; two stepdaughters, Kristin (Dean) Williams and Bridgett Spencer; a brother, Larry Ryan; a sister, Mary Jo Rechtin; and six grandchildren.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Billy Fred Johns
Mr. Billy Fred Johns, 69, of Gibson died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at the VA Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Johns, a native of Floyd County, was an Army veteran and a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.

The funeral was Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Grantville with the Revs. Tony Key and Jimmy Evans officiating. Burial was in the City of Grantville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Moon Johns; three sons, Randal Sorells, Hephzibah, Billy Johns Jr., Grantville, and Jones William Willis, III, Lafrance, SC; two daughters, Pamala Oneal, Grantville, and Sherry Wade, Gibson; one brother, Gary Johns, Grantville; two sisters, Ella Mae Wadsworth, Franklin, and Mary Ann Hall, Grantville; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

William “Bill” Kitchens
Mr. William “Bill” Kitchens, 95, of Gibson died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at Trinity Hospice in Augusta.

Mr. Kitchens, a native of Glascock County, was a member of Gibson First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his son, James Kitchens.

The funeral was Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. at Gibson First Baptist Church with the Revs. Richard Kitchens and Ralph Kitchens officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Meriam Newsome Kitchens; two daughters, Joyce (James) Davis, Martinez, and Linda (Les) Newsome, Gibson; two sisters, Carolyn Williams, Augusta, and Louise Knowles, Evans; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Kevin Kitchens, Barry Newsome, Larry Newsome, David Newsome, Dale Davis, Lanny Sirois and Ricky Rickerson.

Honorary pallbearers are Tim Knowles, Terry Redfern, Denny Newsome, Phil Williams, Stevie Thigpen, Jo Dean Usry, Jimmy Sanders, Phil Thigpen, Kevin Hink, Curley Kitchens, Pope Kent, Thomas Chalker and Brian Bopp.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jean Eleanor Hunt Revell
Mrs. Jean Eleanor Hunt Revell, 89, of Rock Hill, SC, formerly of Louisville died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007.

Mrs. Revell, born in Miami, Ariz., was the daughter of the late Harry Duff and Lillian Morris Hunt.

Her family moved from Arizona to Baltimore, Md., in the 1930s. After graduating from Goucher College in 1939 with a degree in physiology, she moved to Canada to join her father who was working as an engineer in the copper mines.

During World War II she worked in a TNT plant in Meadville, Penn., and later at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. While at Johns Hopkins she did extensive research on hypertension and tested drugs for a cure for malaria. In 1946 she became a laboratory technician for Dr. Samuel Thompson Redgrave Revell Jr., the husband of her college roommate, Ruth.

She subsequently married Dr. Walter Revell, Sam’s brother, in 1948.

Walter and Jeanie Revell settled in Louisville where Dr. Revell served as a family physician for over 40 years.

She was actively involved in all the aspects of the life and ministries of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP) Church.

Upon her move to Rock Hill in 2001 she started a tape ministry for the homebound at First Rock Hill ARP Church.

In 2007, at age 89, she was the recipient of the church’s “Deacon Service Award”.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Walter Jones Revell; her brother, Harry Hunt Jr.; and her grandson, John Revell.

The funeral was Aug. 15 at 11 a.m. in the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian (ARP) Church with Dr. J. Barry Dagenhart officiating.

Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Dr. Walter J. Revell Jr. and Jeanie, Rock Hill, Mrs. Jean Revell Alexander and Dr. Robert Alexander, Rock Hill, Dr., William S. Revell and Matilda, Rock Hill, and Mr. Harry D. Revell and Sheila, Augusta; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Memorials may be made to Louisville ARP Church, Louisville, GA 30434.

Alice Patterson
Mrs. Alice Patterson of Augusta died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at Windermere Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Patterson, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from Palmer’s Cleaners after 32 years of service.

She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

The funeral was Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie David Blackum officiating.

Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.

Survivors include two daughters, Louella P. Gadson, Douglasville, and Sonja R. Patterson, Duncan, SC; four sons, Willie (Bobbie Jean) Patterson, Augusta; Dr. Roosevelt Patterson, Columbus, John A. (Bernice) Patterson, Hephzibah, and Jasper L. Patterson, Wrens; one brother, Theodore Williams, Savannah; two sisters, Rosa Hawkins, Jacksonville, Fla., and Frankie Cobb, Louisville; 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Williams Funeral Home, Hephzibah, was in charge of the arrangements.

Cora Amanda Dozier Smith
Mrs. Cora Amanda Dozier Smith, 71, of Wadley, Aug. 12, 2007, in the Glendale Nursing Home.

Mrs. Smith, a native of McDuffie County, had lived in Wadley for three years.

She was a homemaker and had worked at Uniroyal and had helped run a deer processing company with her husband.

Graveside services were Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. in Westview cemetery with the Rev. Richard Stavely officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, Angie (Charles) Smith, Thomas; three sons, Terrell Smith, Marc Smith and Tim Smith, all of Thomson; four granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and one aunt.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Frances L. Vaughner
Ms. Frances L. Vaughner, 67, of Wrens died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007.

The funeral was Aug. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. W.L. Jones officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery. Survivors include her son, Sedrick Vaughner, Wrens; Willie Mae Pitts, Stapleton; three grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

Samuel “Bo” Bethea
Mr. Samuel “Bo” Bethea died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at Golden Living Center.

Mr. Bethea was born on March 15, 1929, and raised in Jefferson County.

He attended the public school and worked many different jobs.

He was the son of the late Ike and Gastie Atkinson Bethea.

He joined Pine Hill Baptist Church at an early age.

The funeral was Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Alfonsa Dawson Mortuary Inc. in Atlanta.

Survivors include his sister, Ada Lee Smith, Stapleton; brothers, Ike Bethea Sr., and his twin, Sam Willie Bethea; an aunt, Lucille Blair Atkinson, Atlanta; and several other relatives.

Willie James Gibbons
Mr. Willie James Gibbons died Friday, July 27, 2007.

Mr. Gibbons, a native of Jefferson County, was born in Bartow.

He was the son of the late David Gibbons and Pearl Thompson Gibbons. He joined Old Purvis Church of God in Christ at an early age.

The funeral was Aug. 4 at 1 p.m. at Wadley Church of God in Christ and Purvis Church of God in Christ cemetery in Bartow.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joey Lee Gibbons, N.Y.; eight children, Jerome Harris, Milwaukee, Wis., Harold (Jeanette) Thompson and Sammy Gibbons, Louisville, Zynefo (Odessa) Roberson, Wadley, Judy (Anthony) Adams, Marainda Heard and Larry Price, Atlanta, and Johnny Gibbons, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Annie (George) Price; five brothers, Dave (Sylvia) Gibbons and Ray Gibbons, Wadley, Mr. Ben Gibbons, Swainsboro, Mr. Henry (Shirley) Gibbons, N.J., and Mr. John (Jeannie) Gibbons, Milwaukee, Wis.; one brother-in-law, Charlie Ponder, Wadley; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Annie McNeely
Mrs. Annie McNeely, 92, of Wadley died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007.

Mrs. McNeely, a native of Jefferson County, was a florist in Wadley for over 40 years.

She was a member of the Wadley First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Morning Circle, Kate Stokes Sunday School class and the Board of Stewards.

She was also the oldest female member of the church and chairman of worship committee for many years.

The funeral was Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. at Wadley First United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Sauls officiating. Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Annette M. (Tom) Matthews, Manning, SC; two grandchildren, Tommy (Joy) Matthews, Manning, SC, and Andrea M. (Scott) Jersey, Louisville; a sister, Ruby Bishop, Summertown; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
