Mrs. Lena Mae Butler
Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Mae Butler, 81, of Mitchell were held on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 2 p.m. at William Grove Baptist Church, Mitchell, with Pastor, Rev. Golden Lott officiating, and Prophet Darrell Warthen, eulogist. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Ossie Mae (M. H.) Warthen, Mitchell; two grandsons, Michael (Ida) Warthen, Grovetown, and Darrell (Darlene) Warthen, Mitchell; two brothers, Melton Bell, Thomson, and Jessie Bell, Wrens; two sisters, Annie Bell, Wrens, and Lynda Bell, St. Petersburg, Fla.; three great-granddaughters; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Haynes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Marion Danford
Ms. Marion Danford entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 16, 2008, in Wadley.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Blounts Chapel AME Church in Bartow, with Rev. John Edwards officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Johnny Bostic, Ricky McGhee, Curtis Danford, David Danford, Melvin Danford and Perry Graves.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret (Jimmy) Danford Kirkland, Wadley; two sons, David (Jackie) Danford, Wadley, and Curtis (Gail Marie) Danford, Swainsboro; two sisters, Mary Jones and Pauline (Al) Brown, Wadley; two brothers, Freddie Lee Danford, Wadley, and Earnest Lee Danford, Sandersville; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Edtwon "Twon" Jackson
Funeral services for Mr. Edtwon “Twon” Jackson, 22, Thomson were held Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at 4 p.m. at the Mt. Aldred C.M.E. Church, Warren County, with Rev. Darnell Brantley Sr. officiating. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Lisa (Luther) Franklin, Thomson; father, Eddie (Latrenda) Jackson, Thomson; paternal grandmother, Martha Jackson, Thomson; one daughter, Tylia Ri’shae Jackson, Thomson; two sisters, Shatara Ivey, Thomson, and Trice Miller, Sandersville; two brothers, Brandon R. Hart, Thomson and Sincere White, Connecticut; three aunts, Eleanor (Ronnie) Cleveland, Lincolnton, Sheron Ivey, Thomson, and Aleshia Wilcher, Wrens; four uncles, James (Janet) McNair, Warrenton, Morris (Janet) Beasley, and Patrick (Patricia) Jackson, both of Thomson, Willie Ellison Beasley, Augusta; and a host of great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joseph Oscar McDonald
Mr. Joseph Oscar McDonald, 90, of Augusta entered into rest Monday, June 16, 2008, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mr. McDonald was born in Gibson to the late Joseph and Beaulah Lamb McDonald. He retired from Kress Warehouse and was a WWII US Army veteran.

Funeral services were on Thursday, June 19, 2008, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors with Mr. Moses Moore officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Joesy McDonald; his sisters, Lizze Mae Dixon of Sandersville, and Bernice Tanner of Wrightsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Everett Taylor, Craig Peoples, Eddie Peoples, Joe Dixon, Mark Stevens and Richard Marcano.

Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Geanette Mathis
Mrs. Geanette Mathis, 53, of Villa Rica died Sunday, June 22, 2008.

She was the wife of Grady Mathis Jr. formerly of Wrens.

The funeral will be Friday, June 27, 2008, in Villa Rica at 1 p.m.

The family will leave from the residence of her mother-in-law at 408 Baltimore Drive at 7 a.m.

Friends and family may visit at 408 Baltimore Drive in Wrens.

Mrs. Beulah Downs Poole
Mrs. Beulah Downs Poole, 80, of Mitchell died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Poole, a native and lifelong resident of Warren County, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Downs Sr. She was retired from the Thomson Company as a supervisor in the payroll department. Mrs. Poole was a life long member of Mill Creek Baptist Church, a member and former teacher of the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class, and the W.M.U. She was a graduate and valedictorian of the class of 1944 at Warrenton High School.

Graveside funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at the Mill Creek Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Tony Key and Rev. Len Woodard officiating.

Preceding her in death were here husband, Mr. James Arthur Poole; a sister, Huron T. Downs; and a brother, Alvin T. Downs Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, June (Mike) Chester, Macon, and Martha (Ralph) Mauldin, Warrenton; four grandchildren, Ralph (Tammy) Mauldin III, Marc (Michelle) Mauldin, Bill (Cristy) Chester, and Michelle (Chris) McDermott; and six great-grandchildren, Laura, Lee, Erica, Michael, Macie, and Makenzie.

Pallbearers were Ralph Mauldin, III, Marc Mauldin, Chris McDermott, Lee Mauldin, John Downs and Arthur Downs.

Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Adult Women’s Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Bertha S. Rawls
Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha S. Rawls, 67, of Wrens were held on Friday, June 20, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Praise Deliverance Campus and Ministries International, Wrens, with the Apostle Dr. C.A. Wallace, Pastor, officiating. Interment was in Sandvalley A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Louisville.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Toole
Mrs. Mary Toole, 92, of Louisville died Sunday, June 22, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Toole was native of Midville, and the daughter of the late Jesse T. and Molly S. Hamm. She was a homemaker and a member of Louisville First Baptist Church for many years.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2008, in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial followed in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Mr. Frank Toole.

Survivors include her daughter, Frankie (J.E.) T. Davis of Louisville; granddaughters, Dana (Tim) D. Williams, Meredith (Kenny) D. Johnson, both of Louisville; great-grandchildren, Justin Williams, Clint Williams, Mason Johnson, Logan Johnson, all of Louisville; nephew, George Nasworthy of Greenville, S.C.; nieces, Glenda Nasworthy of Austin, Texas, Sheila Smith of Midville, and Tommie Thompson of Macon; and lifelong friend Angela (Warren) Smith of Massilon, Ohio.

Pallbearers were J.E. Davis, Kenny Johnson, Tim Williams, Justin Williams, Clint Williams, Mason Johnson and Logan Johnson.

Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Annie Ruth Arrington Compton
Mrs. Annie Ruth Arrington Compton, 86, of Louisville entered into rest Wednesday, June 25, 2008.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday, June 28, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Louisville City Cemetery, with Rev. Ed Deen officiating.

Mrs. Compton was a lifelong resident of Louisville having recently made her home in Decatur, Ala. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church, wife of the late Sheriff Zollie R. Compton Sr. and retired office manager of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Survivors include her son, Craig (Chris) Compton, Hartselle, Ala.; a brother, Claud Arrington, Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren, Pamela Balk and Adam Compton; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Balk and Jackson Compton.

Pallbearers were Murray Hadden, William Hadden, Mickey Moses, E.M. Newsome, Mickey Jones and John Jones.

Memorials may be made to the Louisville United Methodist Church, PO Box 269, Louisville, GA 30434.

Mrs. Jasmine Ruth McNeely "Jabby" Mole
Mrs. Jasmine Ruth McNeely “Jabby” Mole, 87, of the Moxley Community died Saturday, June 28, 2008, in the Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.

Mrs. Mole, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late W.J. “Jack” and Leoma Cooley McNeely. She worked with the Jefferson County School system at Louisville Academy and Louisville High School as a dietician and lunchroom manager. Mrs. Mole was a lifelong member of the Moxley Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, in the Moxley Baptist Church, with Rev. Tom Harrison and Rev. Lloyd Prince officiating. Burial followed in the Moxley Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eric Moats, Micah Mole, Joseph Mole, Robby Hardy, Seth Yurman, Abe Narehood, Jason Outlaw and Dylan Moats.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John W. Mole; and four brothers, Billy McNeely, Jack Craig McNeely, Ray McNeely and Andy McNeely.

Survivors include her daughters, Ginger (Joel) Hardy of Alpharetta, and Teresa (Ricky) Draughn of Dobson, N.C.; son, John R. (Gail) Mole of Louisville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to Moxley cemetery fund c/o Helen Moxley 1183 Pete Smith Road Wadley, GA 30477.

Mr. Solomon Walker
Mr. Solomon Walker of Augusta entered into rest Friday, June 20, 2008, at Trinity Hospital.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at 4:30 p.m. at Ways Grove Baptist Church, Wrens, with Rev. Jimmy McCollough III officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two sisters, Ms. Sallie Bell and Ms. Inez Walker, both of Augusta; two brothers, Mr. Willie Walker Jr. (Mary) of Augusta and Mr. Leroy Walker (Vicky) of Wrens.

Mr. Clarence Washington
Mr. Clarence Washington, 44, of Augusta died Wednesday, June 17, 2008.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Gibson Chapel with Reverend Dr. Willie Jackson officiating. Interment was in Southview Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon W. Washington; one daughter, Alexis Washington; two stepsons, Anthony Wilcher and Antonio Wilcher; one granddaughter, Zhaniya Dye; four sisters, Lottie Black and Cleo Samuels of Augusta, Helen Rosier of Atlanta, and Mary Ruth Washington of Mitchell; five brothers, Elmore (Fannie) Washington of Tacoma, Wash., Russell (Margaret) Washington of Darlington, S.C., Arthur Lee (Rosa) Rosier and Cleveland Washington, both of Augusta, and Clinton (Cathy) Washington of Watertown, N.Y.

C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bernice Jones Whitfield
Mrs. Bernice Jones Whitfield, 67, departed this life Sunday, June 29, 2008, at University Hospital, Augusta.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Flat Rock Baptist Church, with Rev. Thomas Berry, Rev. Ricky Dent, Rev. Willie B. Tomlin and Rev. Carl Simmons Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery, Matthews.

Mrs. Whitfield was a native of Matthews, a member of the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church and a 1959 graduate of Jefferson High School. She moved to New York in 1959 where she worked as a stock and bond broker in Wall Street Exchange. She returned to Jefferson County in May of 1995.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Whitfield of Wrens; daughter, Monica Haynes of Fayetteville, N.C.; her mother, Mary Lue Jones of Keysville; sister, Fannie (Richard) Berry of Wrens; brothers, Thomas (Ann) Jones of Matthews, Rev. Dr. Willie (Christine) Jones of Wrens, Leonard (Helen) Jones of Savannah, John Judson Jones of Gastonia, N.C. Ricky Calvin (Patricia) Jones, Wrens, and Bobby (Marcella) Jones, Statesboro; sister-in-law, Brenda Washington-Jones of Augusta and Barbara Dixon-Jones of Augusta; one uncle, William “Sap” Walker of Louisville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be her brothers, Dea. Thomas D. Jones, Rev. Dr. Willie L. Jones, Leonard B. Jones, John J. Jones, Ricky C. Jones and Bobby S. Jones.

Family maybe contacted at the residence, 1123 Creek Street, Wrens or at Davis Funeral Home, Louisville.

Viewing will be held at Freeman Funeral Home Thursday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Mr. Milton Bell Sr.
Funeral services for Mr. Milton Bell Sr., 69, of Thomson were held Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Williams Grove Baptist Church, Mitchell, with the Rev. Golden Lott, pastor, and the Prophet Darrell Warthen, presiding. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Milton (Cathy) Bell, MaTorrie Bell and Sammie Parker, all of Thomson; two daughters, Linda Parker, Thomson, and Janice (Wendell) Johnson, Warrenton; one brother, Jessie Bell, Wrens; two sisters, Annie Bell, Wrens, and Lynda Bell, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Bianca, Austin, Justin, and Branson Parker, Charise Reese, Malik, S’Mya, KaTina and Milton Bell Jr., Taquilla Lowe, and Branden and Megale Johnson; a friend, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
