Mr. Charlie R. Jordan
Mr. Charlie R. Jordan, 94, of Bartow died Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Jefferson Hospital in Louisville.

Mr. Jordan was born in Jefferson County and had lived in Bartow for over 50 years. He was retired from Parker Hardware Co. in Wrightsville and was a member of Bartow Baptist Church.

Graveside services were Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Bartow City cemetery with Rev. Paul Harris officiating.

Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his wife, Vema; and daughter, Claire J. Fountain.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bartow Baptist Church in memory of Charlie and Vema Jordan and Claire J. Fountain.

Smith Funeral Home of Wadley was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Elizabeth M. Kitchens
Mrs. Elizabeth M. Kitchens beloved wife of Mr. Ralph Kitchens, Jr entered into rest on Tuesday July 15, 2008, at University Hospital.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 19, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home-Lumpkin Road Chapel with Rev. Jerry Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Beth was a devoted wife of 40 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother, always placing her family first and foremost in her life. She will be greatly missed and loved by all those left to cherish her memory. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband Ralph Kitchens Jr. ; daughters Amy Elizabeth Kitchens, Rebecca Louise Kitchens and Rachel Kitchens Franco (Nathaniel); grandchildren Christopher-James Hunter McGee, Emily-Eloise Meldora McGee, Arrie-Rose Louise McGee and Connor-Edward Gilliam McGee; brothers Frank Griffin Jr. and Clyde Moore, Jr.; sisters Linda Fiesler and Nancy Moore; mother-in-law Mrs. Frances ”Ma” Kitchens. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gilliam Moore, Sr., brother Larry Moore and father-in-law Mr. Ralph Kitchens Sr.

The family received friends on Friday evening at Elliott Sons Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary Lou Kitchens
Mrs. Mary Lou Kitchens, 64, of Thomson died Thursday, July 17, 2008, in the Heartland Hospice in Augusta.

Graveside services were at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2008, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Mrs. Genivieve Black speaking.

Mrs. Kitchens was a native of Wilkes County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a retired caregiver and a member of the Hill Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late H.M. and Lucille Chapman Taylor.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Kitchens, Thomson; her son, Jimmy A. Kitchens Sr., Thomson; her two grandsons, Page Kitchens, Gibson, and Jimmy A. Kitchens Jr., Thomson; a daughter-in-law, Genivieve Black, Gibson; and sister-in -law, Dorothy Manning, Stapleton.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ernestine Anthony Mack
Mrs. Ernestine Anthony Mack, 61, of Louisville departed this life Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Mack was a native of Laurens County but lived in Jefferson County most of her life. She attended Jefferson County Public School and later received her Georgia C&A; Certificate from Gibson Rehabilitation Center. She was a member of St. Matthews AME Church and the widow of the late Rufus Mack.

Funeral services will were held Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 4 p.m. at the St. Matthews AME Church and Lone Star Society Cemetery.

Survivors include her son Gary (Thalisa) Kelly Sr.; her stepmother, Lizzie Mae Dixon of Tennille; her sisters and brothers, Bernice (Joseph) Kelly and Jeanette Dixon (Kelly) Sherrod of Louisville, David Charles Dixon of Savannah, Joseph Dixon of Philadelphia Pa.; step daughter, Alicetean Habersham of Louisville; grandchildren, MaKayla Kelly, Gary Kelly Jr. and Zaylan Scott, all of Wrens; aunts and uncles, Carl (Grace) Dixon, Betty Frazier of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Addie Dixon of Daytona Beach, Fla., Johnny Lee Dixon of Sandersville and Dan (Shirley) Dixon of Sandersville; sister-in-law, Ida Lee Mack and Annie Lee Mack of Louisville; godchildren, Willie Fuller of Louisville and Dontavious Wicker of Louisville; a special friend, Joanne Henderson of Louisville.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Carl Edward Moore
Mr. Carl Edward Moore, 67, of Sparta, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, in the McDuffie Regional Hospital in Thomson following an extended illness.

Mr. Moore was a native of Baldwin County, the son of the late Guy Neville Moore and the late Marjorie Hitchcock Moore. He was the retired owner of ABC Pawn Shop in Tennille. Mr. Moore was a former logger and owner of a construction company. He was a 1958 graduate of Sparta High School and was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Memorial services for Mr. Moore were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville. The Rev. Jerry Bradley officiated.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Anne Carpenter Moore of Sparta; two sons, Guy Neville Moore of Lafayette, and Merritt Edward Moore of Maryland; three stepchildren, Kathy Fowler Hyman of Mitchell, Stephanie Fowler Farmer of Milledgeville and James Tyler Fowler of Mitchell; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandson; three sisters, Brenda Moore Hudson of Thomson, Mary Moore Howell of Mitchell and Dorothy Moore Huckabee of Colorado; a brother, James Moore of Adrian.

The family suggests that donations in memory of Mr. Moore be made to the American Lung Association, 3630 Dewey Gray Circle, Suite A, Augusta, Georgia 30909.

Mrs. Levy Mae Newman
Mrs. Levy Mae Newman, 72, of Grovetown entered into rest Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at Trinity Hospital, Augusta.

Mrs. Newman was born in Jefferson County to the late George S. and Lessie Peoples Thompson. She was a homemaker and a member of Dearing Full Gospel Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2008, in the Bellevue Memorial Gardens Chapel with the Reverend Eddie L. Renew officiating. Interment followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Newman.

Survivors include one brother, Chesley (Ann) Thompson, Augusta; two sisters, Barbara Ann Riley, Lincolnton, and Mary Staulcup, of Evans; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Starling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Frankie Beasley Reese
Mrs. Frankie Beasley Reese, 72, beloved wife of the late Sgt. Garvin Reese, entered into rest Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Mrs. Reese was a native of Jefferson County and had resided in Augusta since 1958. She was a retired cashier with Piggly Wiggly and a member of Curtis Baptist Church.

Family members include her daughters: Melissa R. Andringa of Augusta and Angela R. Sharpe of Augusta; sons and daughter-in-law: Gregory D. Reese of Augusta, Gary M. and Teresa Reese of North Augusta, SC; eight grandchildren: sister and best friend: Betty B. Gibbons of Thomson and brother: Larry Beasley of Wrens.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 21 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Mark Harris and Rev. Sherrell Dunn officiating. Pallbearers were Randall Andringa, Hal Sharpe, Jr., Keith Hardy, John Jones, Craig Reese and Jason Reese. Interment followed in Westover Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Curtis Baptist Church, 1326 Broad St., Augusta, GA 30901.

The family received friends Sunday evening at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors in Augusta.

Mrs. Annie Kate Suggs
Mrs. Annie Kate Suggs of Wrens entered into rest Saturday, July 12, 2008, at her residence.

Funeral services were held Friday, July 18, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Dr. Willie L. Jones officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include stepson, Reginald Suggs of Baltimore, Md.; sister, Betty Jean Perry of Savannah; two brothers, Walter Jackson of Guyton, and Marvin Jackson of Atlanta; two nieces, Bertha Patterson and Della Mae Shipman, both of Wrens; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thelma Ruth Tanner
Mrs. Thelma Ruth Tanner, 64, of Mulberry, Fla., former resident of Wadley, died Friday, July 18, 2008, at her residence in Florida.

Mrs. Tanner was the wife of the late Allen Tanner. She was a seamstress and a Baptist.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Midville Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott McKinney officiating. Interment followed in the Midville Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Benjamin Stavely, Swainsboro, and Derek Stavely and Bryan Stavely, both of Mulberry, Fla.; grandchildren, Charles Gordon, Robert Gordon and Wesley Gordon, all of Henderson, N.C., Steve Gordon, Bakersville, N.C., and Fred Gordon, Patrick Springs, Va.; and many nieces and nephews.

Tomlinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Lee Curry Thomas
Mrs. Mary Lee Curry Thomas of Wadley entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 12, 2008, in Augusta. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the San Clair Baptist Church in Wadley, with Pastor Derwin Jackson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Vincent Hicks, Willie B. Lewis, Gonice Davis, Curtis Tarver and Perry Graves Sr.

Survivors include two daughters, Alberta Bractley, Wadley, and Ann Thomas, Atlanta; three stepchildren, Lillie Harrison, Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Harold (Sally) Jones, Columbus, and Judson (Paulette) Jones, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Effie Sommerville, Akron, Ohio and Anna Bell Brinson, Decatur; one aunt, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Louie Williford
Mr. Louie Williford, 78, entered into rest at the Gibson Nursing Home, Gibson.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Magnolia Baptist cemetery with Rev. Bill Seaman officiating.

Mr. Williford was preceded in death by his mother, Molly Usry Williford; and one brother, Otis Williford.

Survivors include one brother, Mr. Vince (Bobbie) Williford of Wrens; and one sister, Mrs. Christine Gill of Gibson.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charles W. Wright
Mr. Charles W. Wright of Augusta entered into rest Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Blair House Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Survivors include one aunt, Lillie M. Johnson, Wrens; cousins, Juanita L. Burney, Augusta, Larry D. Burney, Forsythe, Ruben Burnes, Atlanta, and Janet L. Burney, Riverdale.

Mrs. Esther Lyn (Kinman) Bullock
Mrs. Esther Lyn (Kinman) Bullock, 44, of Bartow died on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Bullock was a native of Chicago, Ill. She was a 1981 graduate of Buford High School, a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Harlem and was a homemaker.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2008, in the Louisville First United Methodist Church with Dr. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the Glad Tidings cemetery in Bartow.

Survivors include her husband, Nathan Bullock of Bartow; children, Hannah Lee (Dan) of Canton, Levi Bullock, Ethan Bullock, Leah Bullock and Rachel Bullock, all of Bartow; parents, Kirby Lowell and Beverly Ruth Baker Kinman of Byron; brothers, Jeff Kinman (Angie) of Knoxville, Tenn., Darryl Kinman (Grace) of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Laura Reeves (Terry) of Mobile, Ala.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Garrett
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Garrett of Bartow died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Garrett was a seamstress at the Wadley Shirt Factory and was a former Pink Lady at Jefferson Hospital. She was a member of Lamb’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, 2008, at 4 p.m. at Lamb’s Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Donna Ashworth officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Richard Garrett; son, Horace Richard Garrett Jr.; and sister, Helen Thigpen.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cobb of Bartow; daughter-in-law, Violet Garrett of Wadley; sister Annamelia (James) Oglesby; grandchildren, Rickey Garrett of Cape Canaveral, Fla., Panda (James) Arrington, Ray (Cindy) Bryant, Angie (Barney) Wren, Randy (Ellen) Garrett of Macon, and Leslie (Ernie) Newton; great-grandchildren, Tammy Garrett, Adrienne Williams, Amanda Jones, Ashley Wren, Kyle Bryant, Morgan Williams, Josh Arrington, Michelle Reece, Michael Reece, Kaylee Arrington, Bailey Wren and McKinley Newton; great-great-grandchildren, Seth Edward Garrett Estrada, and Ashley Isabel Garrett Hermandez of El Paso, Texas.

Pallbearers were nephews, John Morris, Donnie Garrett, Tim Garrett, Travis Garrett, Bob Price, Bill Price, Ronnie Mallette, Jim Curry, Buford Price, Randy Price, Johnny Price and Stanley Upton.

Memorials may be made to Lamb’s Chapel United Methodist Church of the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mrs. Garrett.
