Mr. Clyde “Bulldozier” Sinquefield Jr., 58, of Wrens entered into rest Friday, July 25, 2008.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 31 at 3 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Michael Ephraim officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include six sisters, Johnnie Mae (Fletcher) Jones of Avera, Ruth (Jimmy) Wells Sr., Gertrude Kelly, both of Wrens, Grace Sims of Augusta, Sallie Mae Brady and Priscilla Sinquefield, both of Florida; and friend, Markeita Moss of Thomson.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Saulena Dee Vilano
Mrs. Saulena Dee Vilano, 38, of Avera entered into rest Tuesday, July 29, 2008.

Mrs. Vilano was a waitress at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Restaurant.

Graveside services were held Friday, Aug. 1 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery at 11 a.m. with Rev. Russell Davis officiating.

Survivors include her children, Alyssa Austin, Emily Austin and Gavin James; her parents, Johnny F. Padgett Jr., and Sherry A. Padgett, Avera; her sisters and brother, Celeste Roberts, Martinez, Sgt. Jason Padgett, Fort Campbell, Ky., Michelle Padgett Reid, Avera, and Wendy Padgett Thomas, Greenville, S.C.; an aunt, Mary Goodspeed, Evans; and an uncle Raymond Goodspeed, Evans; 13 nieces and nephews.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Susanne Atkins Wells
Mrs. Susanne Atkins Wells, 55, of Louisville departed this life Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Wells was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late John “Snake” Atkins and Jessie Mae Boyd Atkins. She joined the Jones Grove Baptist Church at an early age and served on the Usher Board for many years. She was a 1971 graduate of Louisville High School. She worked as a security guard in the Georgia Department of Corrections and later as a jailer at the Jefferson County Sherriff Office.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Jonas Wells Sr. of Louisville; her children, Alieshia Yancey and Jonas Wells Jr. of Louisville; her stepchildren, Darien Nelson of Matthews and Keshaunda Andrews of Wrens; her siblings, Gene (Bessie) Boyd, Billy (Barbara) Atkins, Louise (Ronnie) Ponder, Larry (Susan) Atkins, Sabrina Atkins, Shawanna Atkins of Louisville, Deborah (Tommie) Terrell of Keysville, Patricia (Steve) Kinkins of Wadley, Don (Ethel) Atkins of Albany, Johnnie (Dalphia) Atkins of Maryland; granddaughter, Keiavia’ Kirkland of Waynesboro; uncle and aunts, Leotis “Duke” Boyd, Pauline Hines and Lizzie Quarterman of Louisville; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Edward Andrew Zabawa
Mr. Edward Andrew Zabawa, 72, of Augusta entered into rest Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Zabawa retired as a Sergeant First Class from the U.S. Army and also served in Vietnam. He later worked as a mechanical estimator for GoldMech, Inc.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2 at Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Father Bill Williams officiating. Interment followed at Westover Memorial Park. Full military honors were accorded by the Ft. Gordon Military Detachment.

He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and John Krezinski.

Survivors include his wife, Inge Zabawa; a son James (Debbie) Zabawa, Kentucky; daughters, Susan (Steve) Echols, Mitchell, and Karen (Chris) Whitney, Evans; grandchildren, Krista and Jared Zabawa, Kentucky, Emma Echols, Mitchell, and Katie and Jessie Barnett, and Noah Whitney, all of Evans; sister, Margie (Fred) Muzyka, Willis, Texas; brothers, Richard (Eva) Zabawa, Columbia, S.C. and Albin (Caroline) Zabawa, Fayetteville.

Honorary pallbearers were his grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to The National Brain Tumor Foundation, 22 Battery St., Suite 612, San Francisco, California 94111-5520.

Mr. Phillip Allen Arrington
Mr. Phillip Allen Arrington, 71, of Augusta entered into rest Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Arrington served his country in the Navy for many years. He also was a millworker and worked at several local mills in the Augusta area.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug 5, 2008, at 6 P.M. in the chapel of James Funeral Home in Wrens, with Rev. David Brown officiating.

Mr. Arrington was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Lee Arrington and Mrs. Mary Sellars Arrington; one son, Allan Arrington; three brothers, Detroit Arrington, Roy Arrington and Tony Arrington; and one sister, Frances Joyner.

Survivors include his wife Mary Wimberly of Augusta; three sons, Phillip Arrington (Edith) of McBean, Curtis Wimberly (Peggy) of Augusta, and Joe McCombs of Augusta; five daughters, Cricket Arrington of Calhoun, Mildred Sikes (Grady) of Gulf Shores, Ala., Kay Wimberly of Hephzibah, Sara Sanders of Augusta, and Beatrice “Bebe” Johnson (Roger) of Augusta; four brothers, Charles Arrington of Augusta, George “Tommy” Arrington of Waynesboro, David Arrington of Lincolnton, and L.C. Arrington of Texas; one sister, Mary Annette Hood of Augusta; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Gerald Hutto, Jonnie Sanchez, Dennis Holshouser, Terry Anderson, David Anderson Jr., Luckey Brown and Roger Johnson.

Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Cobb Evans, 60, of Waynesboro entered into rest Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Bottsford Spring Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Griffin presiding and the Rev. Nathaniel Howard Jr., eulogist. Burial was at Thompson Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was a lifelong resident of Burke County, daughter of the late John Cobb and Arie Lee Gresham Cobb, and was a member of Thompson Bridge Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Fred Evans Sr.; two sons, Christopher W. Cobb of Ontario, Ore., and Fred Evans Jr. of Waynebsoro; two daughters, LaKisha Y. Evans and LaTrisha E. Jackson of Waynesboro; five grandchildren, Galvin Evans, Demonica Jackson, Devin Evans, Laila Jackson and Demond Jackson Jr.; four sisters, Geraldine Hunter, Patricia Cobb, Charlene (Michael) Jackson of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Georgia (Jerry) Savoy of Augusta; eight brothers, John (Alice) Cobb Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C., Carl A. Cobb of Savannah, Clyde (Annette) Cobb of Atlanta, Larry (Ivelyn) Cobb of Millen, Tyrone (Bridgett) Cobb of Waynesboro, Michael (Patricia ) Cobb of Augusta, Ulysses Cobb of Midville, Gregory (Kathy) Cobb of Huntsville, Ala.; two aunts, Ruby Scott of Philadelphia, Pa., and Frankie M. Cobb of Louisville; nine sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ethel Mae Lodge Daniels of Bartow entered into rest on Thursday, July 31, 2008, in Wrightsville.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Tarvers Grove Baptist Church in Bartow, with Rev. Walter Holmes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Bobby Daniels, Jacksonville, Fla.; four sons, Paul (Crissy) Daniels, Swainsboro, Willie Albert Hill and Josey Michael Daniels, Bartow, and Curtis Daniels, Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister, Lorene Whitfield, Fort Pierce, Fla.; three brothers, Joe (Sarah) Curry, Bartow, Hubert Tillman, Sandersville, and Robert (Cynthia) Tillman, Claxton; five grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Robert Lewis Fleming, 63, of Vance, S.C. entered into rest on Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, in Columbia, S.C.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at 1:00 P.M. at the Canaan Galilee Baptist Church and Lone Star Cemetery.

Mr. Fleming was a native of Jefferson County. He was a 1963 graduate of Jefferson High School and later moved to New York where he was employed with Kid’s School Bus Company in Bronx, N.Y. until his retirement after 30 years of service in 2004.

Survivors include one son, Erskine Fleming of Bronx, N.Y., his companion, Ida Stewart, Vance, S.C.; three brothers, Andrew (Cecelia) Fleming III, Albany, N.Y., and Freddie (Bertha) Fleming and Tommie (Glenn) Fleming, both of Louisville; aunt and uncles, Susie Neal of Deerfield Beach, Fla. and Wallace Fleming of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Deacon James Roy Harris
Funeral services for Deacon James Roy Harris, 74, of Thomson were held on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at the Thankful Baptist Church, Gibson, with the Pastor Rev. Leroy Hudson officiating. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary W. Harris, Thomson; one son, Ronald “Ronnie” Harris; five daughters, Rhonda Brown, Tasha Allen, Tauheedah Williams, all of Thomson, Jacquelinette Dorsey, Harlem, and Melissa “Missy” Sims, Atlanta; one stepson, Billy Pete Winfrey, Augusta; sister, Virginia Hill, Thomson; brother, Hardwick (Laverne) Harris, Columbus, Ohio; three sisters-in-law, Mattie (Dennis) Chapman, Jackson, Jean (Robert) Collins, Thomson, Vandella Thomas, Sharon, Pa.; one daughter-in-law, Doris Ashbury Harris, Wilkes County; 24 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Nellie Jones Harrison
Nellie Jones Harrison, 83, of Swainsboro entered into rest Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Harrison was a native of Washington County, the wife of Braxton S. Harrison Sr. for 63 years, a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Swainsboro.

Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Peebles Curry Durden Memorial Chapel with the Dr. Robert Blankenship officiating. Interment was in the Harrison Baptist Church cemetery in Harrison.

Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her parents, Clint and Lillie Harrell Jones; her mother and father-in-law, John and Flovilla Harrison; two sisters, Mary Lou Hawkins and Ina Ree Frost Swinson; and four brothers, Alvin C. Jones, Benton Jones, Elmer Jones and Verlin Jones.

Survivors include her husband, Braxton S. Harrison Sr. of Swainsboro; one daughter, Emily (Joe) Harrison Croft of Augusta; one son, Braxton (Jan) Seaborn Harrison Jr. of Wrens; grandchildren, Kimberly C. Ryan and Karen C. and Robert Odom; four great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.

Pallbearers were her nephews.

Mr. Lindsey Jerome Sherrod of Wadley entered into eternal rest on Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, in Swainsboro.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley, with Elder Ronnie Harden officiating. Burial was in Hard Shell Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Quoshonda Hughes and Jaqueta Sherrod of Swainsboro; a stepson of Wadley; his mother, Carrie Woods, Wadley; eight sisters, Mary Ann Woods, Wadley, Linda (Delvecchia) Kelly, Carolyn (Cedric) Carswell, Sonya (Guy) Akines, Kimberly (Artis) Kingsberry, Regina Brooks, Lenora Coney and Ericka Barney, all of Swainsboro; eight brothers, Jerry (Nikki) Woods, Johnny (Laverne) Woods, Tommy (Toni) Woods and Willie (Cassandra) Woods, all of Wadley, Michael (Travinea) Sherrod, Ricky (Keisha) Sherrod, Jeffery Sherrod and Eric Barney, all of Swainsboro; five additional brothers-in-law, one additional sister-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Beverly Jeanette Black McGruder, 58, of Hephzibah entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, in an auto accident.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery, Louisville.

Mrs. McGruder was a native of Phoenix City, Ala., the daughter of the late Charlie and Willie Pearl Jacobs Black, a 1968 graduate of South Girard High School. At an early age she attended Bethel AME Church in Phoenix City. She attended Jones Grove Baptist Church, Louisville.

Survivors include her husband, Lindsey McGruder Jr. of Hephzibah; her children, Felica McGruder and Lindsey McGruder III of Hephzibah; her sibling, Helen (Walter) King and Georgia Mack of Phoenix City, Ala., Sgt Ret. Cecil (Vernell) Quinn of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; sisters-in-law, Annie D. (Benjamin) Parker of Milledgeville, Ann (Johnny) Dixon of Conyers and Eloise Smith of Louisville; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Carl Walden, 53, of Louisville entered into rest Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at an Augusta hospital.

He was a native of Jefferson County, where he attended Jefferson County Public School and was a member of the Lone Star Society.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at 11 p.m. at the Pine Hill Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Rev. Lester D. Clark
Rev. Lester D. Clark, 92, of Martinez entered into rest Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at Trinity Hospital.

Rev. Clark served the Lord for 54 years pastoring in Mississippi, Florida and Georgia. Rev. Clark was a native of Jefferson County. He was a graduate of Avera High School, attended Mercer University in Macon, a graduate of the Baptist Bible Institute in Graceville, Fla.; a graduate of William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss. and a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a member of Martinez Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with Rev. Phil Winsett, Rev. Hal Hodgens and Rev. Billy Atkins officiating. Interment followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Vivian Sheppard; and brother, Homer Dixon.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Glenice Rabun Clark; his daughters, Connie (Ira) Russell of Petal, Miss., Faye (Lewis) Johnson of Augusta, Nancy (Wally) Taylor of Grovetown; sister, Agnes (Curtis) Thigpen of Avera; grandchildren, Craig Russell, Carol Tyner, Kyle Johnson, Erica Taylor, Brock Taylor; and great-grandchildren, Shelby and Devan Russell and Landon and Alyssa Kate Tyner.

Pallbearers were Craig Russell, Brock Taylor, Kyle Johnson, Robert Thigpen, Troy Wilson and Edward Rabun.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Martinez Baptist Church and fellow pastors.
