Mr. Horace George Thigpen
Mr. Horace George Thigpen, 79, of Augusta entered into rest Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Mattie C. Hall.

Mr. Thigpen was born in Avera to the late Marvin Matthew and Ora Dye Thigpen. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and had retired from Nabisco after 25 years.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Morningside Baptist Church, with Pastor Wally Hoyle officiating. Interment was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Newsome Thigpen; his sons, Steve Thigpen ( Belinda) and Phillip Thigpen (Lynn), both of Augusta; brother, M.M. ‘Junior’ Thigpen of Greenwood, S.C.; sister, Audrey Duncan of Greenwood, S.C.; grandchildren, Keeley Fox, Dustin Thigpen, Ryan Thigpen, Lance Thigpen and Jennifer Levengood; great-grandchildren, Kaylin Fox, Kole Thigpen and Kira Thigpen.

Pallbearers were Dustin Thigpen, Ryan Thigpen, John Thigpen, Larry Thigpen, Michael Faglier and Freddie Lariscey.

Honorary pallbearers were the Men's Sunday School Class.

If so desired memorials may be made to Morningside Baptist Church, 1825 Kissingbower Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Susie Mae Lane Wynn
Mrs. Susie Mae Lane Wynn, 76, of Wrens entered into rest Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Louisville, with Brother Willie Jackson officiating.

Survivors include children, Roger (Elaine) Wynn, Kerry Wynn, McKenny (Carletta) Wynn, Stevie Wynn, Rita E. Wynn, Ricky (Frankie) Wynn, and Joseph (Regina) Wynn.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Dr. Albert Wilson Dock
Rev. Dr. Albert Wilson Dock of Wilmington, Del. entered into rest on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008.

Reverend Dr. Dock served as pastor of Berean Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pa. for 24 years. He also served as pastor at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Augusta, Carpentersville Baptist Church, North Augusta, S.C., Flat Rock Baptist Church, Louisville, Rosier Baptist Church, Rosier, Smith Grove Baptist Church, Columbia County, and Parker Grove Baptist Church, Rockyford. Rev. Dr. Dock earned his bachelor of science degree (magna cum laude) from Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pa., in 1991. He received his master of divinity degree in 1995. He earned his doctor of ministry degree in from Palmer Theological Seminary, Wynnewood, Pa. in 2007.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Beulah Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Sam Davis, pastor, will deliver the eulogy. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Georgetta C. Dock; his mother, Mrs. Pendie Knights Dock, Perkins; his three daughters, Angela Davis (Eddie), Augusta, Chandrea Dock, Augusta, and Veronica Hawkins (Kenneth), Dumfries, Va.; four sons, Darrell Stroy (Charisse), Wilmington, Del., Alfonso Lambert (Lisa), Statesboro, Darius Dock, Augusta, and Reginald Dock (Tara), Augusta; brothers, Deacon Levi Dock (Ada), Alexandria, Deacon Tommy Lee Dock (Dorothy), Augusta, Rev. Eunice Dock (Ellen), Augusta, Deacon Sha-Ron Dock (Carolin), Millen, Rev. Hayward Dock, Augusta, and Titus Dock (Angie), Denver, Colo.; sisters, Delois Searles (Charles), Augusta, Shirley Jones (Garfield), Augusta, and Paula Bass (Ray), Perkins; 21 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four aunts; one uncle; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, colleagues, and friends.

Mrs. Blanche Hendrix
Mrs. Blanche Hendrix, 85, formerly of Metter, died on Friday at Jefferson County Hospital in Louisville.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home in Metter. Burial was in Cedar Creek Cemetery.

Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wallace Lovett Jr.
Mr. Wallace Lovett Jr., 56, of Wadley died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Jefferson Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Pineola Church of God at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ronnie Harden officiating.

Jogresan Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Beatrice Paul
Mrs. Beatrice Paul, 89, of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008.

Mrs. Paul was a Baptist and she was a homemaker.

Graveside services were held on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2008, at 4 p.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Keith Boggs officiating.

Mrs. Paul was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Paul.

Survivors include her son, Ray Paul, Harlem; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Natalie Duke Pittman
Mrs. Natalie Duke Pittman, 80, of Augusta entered into rest Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Pittman was a mother and grandmother; she was retired as a personal care giver; she was a Christian lady who read her bible and talked to the Lord.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at 4 p.m. at Ways Baptist Church, with Pastor Ray Taylor officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmar E. Pittman; and her parents, Dorsey and Alma Wren Duke.

Survivors include her children, Keith (Ponda) Pittman, Stapleton, Danny (Debbie) Pittman, Hephzibah, Mark (Kathryn) Pittman, Martinez, and Dale (Jerry) Seber, Statesboro; two sisters, Jean Johnson, Texas, and Annette Usry, Wrens; three brothers, Randy Duke, Glen Duke, and John Duke, all of Wrens; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tony Pittman, Stan Pittman, Toby Pittman, Richard Anderson, George Cawley, Tony Duke and Paul Duke.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta Ga. 30909.

Mr. Earl Thomas Reese
Mr. Earl Thomas Reese of Camak entered into rest Aug. 31, 2008, at his residence.

Mr. Reese was born in Glascock County, and was the son of the late Clarence Reese Sr. and the late Ruth Dixon Reese. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was retired from Shaw Industries. Mr. Reese was also a member of Camak Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryant Neal officiating. Interment followed at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Georgia B. Reese; son, Donnie Reese (Bet) of Norwood; daughters, Kathy Usry (Darrell) of Gibson; Linda Daniel (Darry) of Thomson; brothers, Clarence Reese Jr. of Gibson and Jamie Reese of Appling; sisters, Beulah Proctor of Thomson, Hazel Kelley and Betty Jean Kelley, both of Mitchell, and Joann Reese of Gibson; five grandchildren, Melissa McDonald, Tommy Reese, Russ Usry (Samatha Scarber), Dena Daniel and Krista Matthews; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Wally Thigpen, Lynn Thigpen, David Thigpen, Eddie Kelley, Wade Matthews and Lester Williford.

Ms. Shannon Rhodes
Shannon Rhodes, 16, of Evans entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Egleston Children’s Hospital PICU in Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at 3 p.m. in the Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel with Reverend Gary Hillman officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.

Miss Rhodes was born in Augusta. She was the daughter of John Russell Rhodes and Susan Hattaway Rhodes. She was a member of ROTC, cross country track and the SADD Club.

Shannon was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Herbert William Hattaway Jr.

Survivors include her parents; brothers, Reid William Rhodes and Charles Graham Reese, both of Mitchell; her future sister-in-law; Stephanie Marie Hinton of Mitchell; her maternal grandmother, Annie Morris Hattaway of Mitchell; her paternal grandparents, Robert Eugene Rhodes Sr. and Patsy Henderson Rhodes of Dearing; her friend, Jeanna Rae Daines; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.

Pallbearers will be Russell Rhodes, Reid Rhodes, Charles Reese, Matthew Rhodes, Dylan Newman and Justin Garnell. The pallbearers will be lead by Jeanna Rae Daines.

Mrs. Mary Walker
Mrs. Mary Walker of Augusta entered into rest Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

She was a Richmond County Board of Education and St. Joseph Hospital retiree.

Survivors include her husband, Horace Walker, Augusta; three daughters, Shirley (Ralph) Godbee, Elaine Walker, Diane Walker, Augusta; three sons, Horace (Gloria) Walker Jr., Wrens; Carl (Lucy) Walker, North Augusta, S.C.; Rev. Anthony Walker, Augusta; one sister, Mae Colia Griffin, Brooklyn, N.Y.; three brothers, Joshua Washington, Booker T. Washington, Willie Washington, Aiken, S.C.; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Katrine Robinson Anderson
Funeral services for Mrs. Katrine Robinson Anderson, 63, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Wrens, were held on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the New Zion Baptist Church, Wrens, with Rev. Dr. W.L. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Michael Anderson, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Sylvia (Anthony) Shaw, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary Ella Robinson Brown, Dublin, and Wilhemenia Howard, Wrens; two brothers, Carthan “CW” Robinson, Wrens, and Carlos Ray Robinson, Atlanta; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Nerisa Davis Durden
Mrs. Nerisa Davis Durden of Avera entered into rest on Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Durden was a native of Jefferson County. She was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Magnolia Baptist Church with Rev. David Batts officiating, Rev. Perry Daniel and Rev. Christopher Durden assisting. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Rev. Clyde (Ruby) Durden of Augusta, Matthew (Faith) Durden of Buffalo, N.Y., Linda Gail Durden and Dianne Durden of Avera; sister, Cora McCall of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Lou Virginia Gilmore
Mrs. Lou Virginia Gilmore of Hyde Park, Mass., entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008. Mrs. Gilmore was born in Jefferson County where she joined Walden Grove CME Church. She was the daughter of the late Mary Lue Lundry and Mane Boyd. She was a 1964 graduate of Jefferson County High. She was employed by the Veterans Administration of Massachusetts.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer CME Church and Walden Grove CME Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Sonny Gilmore.

Survivors include daughters, Jacquelyn Gilmore, Keisha Gilmore, and Gloria (Herman) Weatherly, all of Hyde Pack, Mass.; sons, Henry Gilmore, Boston, Mass., Kenneth (Tonya) Gilmore Eden, Prairie, Antonio Gilmore, South St. Paul, Minn.; four stepchildren, Carlee, Sandra, Terry and Patricia Owens; 15 grandchildren; six sisters, Patricia Davis and Marilyn Landry, both of Orlando, Fla., Cynthia Landry, Boston, Mass., Diane “DeDe” (Herman) King, Stapleton, Phyllis (Errol) Palmer, New Hauer, Conn., and Marsha Avery, Lake Charles, La.; three brothers, Raymond (Kimberly) Landry, New Hauer, Conn., William Landry, Wadley, and Rodney “Ronnie” (Lisa) Moye Louisville; one uncle, John Rachel; one aunt, Dot Rachel, Louisville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at the Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Michael Ephraim Sr. officiating and Rev. Samuel Thompkins, presiding. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Little, Wrens; two sons, Willie “Bill” Little Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y., and James (Patricia) Little, Long Island, N.Y.; a grandson raised by him, Richard Little, Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Gloria (Ogie) Bittle, Roxbury, Mass., Mary (Louis) Perry, Philadelphia, Pa., and Annie Maude Burnett, Matton, Mass.; four stepchildren, Lee Edgar (Patsy) Johnson, and Gwendolyn Berry, both of Wrens, Christine Jones and Gail (Freddie) Williams, both of Hephzibah; one sister, Mariah Hicks, Allentown, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Bernice (Joe) Fisher, Loganville, and Renee Irby, Decatur; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
