Mr. Gerald Hoke Norris
Mr. Gerald Hoke Norris, 65, of Warrenville, S.C. entered into rest Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008,

Mr. Norris was born March 4, 1943, in Hephzibah, he had been an area resident all of his life. He served his country in the United States Navy. He is the son of the late Hoke Smith and Frankie Bugg Norris.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Langley, S.C., with Rev. Dr. Gary Berry and Mr. John Norris officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Troy Easler.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Faye Johnson Norris; children, Anthony Easler (Catherine), Warrenville, S.C., Robin Braswell, Augusta, Gina Easler, Warrenville, S.C., William Norris, Gibson, and Shannon Nicole Escartin (Peter), Hephzibah; siblings, Barbara Stempin (Henry), North Tonawanda, N.Y., Ann Thompson (JR), Mobile, Ala., John Norris (Mary), Mt. Holley, N.C., and Kay Dixon (Tom), Augusta; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Michael Clark, Tony Easler, Chris Clark, Gabriel Clark, Wayne Miller and Thomas Holloway.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Chalker Prescott
Mrs. Mary Chalker Prescott, 89, entered into rest Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Prescott was a member of Pineview Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was the wife of Robert Prescott for 41 years and the daughter of the late Jeff and Verna Hammock Prescott.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Stan Littleton officiating. Burial followed at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Augusta.

Survivors include her children, Marian (Tom) Lamb, Wrens, Merv (Ginger) Reese, Thomson; stepdaughter, Larraine (Don) Nutter, Plainville, Mich.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Edward Bruce Thompson Jr., Billy Chalker, Olin Mathis, Michael Pierce Kent, Thomas Franklins Lynam and William Boone Bostick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Heart Association P.O. Box 15923 Augusta, Ga. 30919 or to American Cancer Society 2607 Commons Blvd. Augusta Ga. 30909.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mark Lewis Smith
Mr. Mark Lewis Smith, 73, of Bartow entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008.

Mr. Smith was born in Jefferson County and had lived here all his life. He was retired and a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at New Hope United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Hall Family Cemetery, Bartow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Mattie Smith.

Survivors include his sister, Linda (Colon) Gordy of North Augusta, S.C.; brother, Sid (Ann) Smith of Bartow; nephews, Mitch, Jay and Brad Smith, and Gene and Michael Gordy.

Pallbearers were nephews and Charlie Roy Hall.

Memorials may be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church, in care of Shirley Thigpen, 11760 Hwy 242, Bartow, GA 30413.

Mr. Samuel "Buck" Stone
Mr. Samuel “Buck” Stone of Benton Harbor, Mich. entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, after a brief illness.

Mr. Stone began attending St. Matthews AMC of Louisville at an early age. One of his first jobs was in restaurant service. He later moved to New York before finally making Benton Harbor, Mich. his home.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Hover Funeral Home in Buchanan, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jenning S. Stone and Vinnie Fann-Stone; both paternal and maternal grandparents; two sisters, Annie Maude-Pierce and Sallie Maude Hillsmon; a number of aunts and uncles; one nephew, Jenning S. Stone III; and two great-nephews, Markinyo Gage and Timonthy A. Wynn.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Stone; sister, Catherine Washington (Judson); brothers, Jenning S. Stone Jr. (Annie F.) and Edgar Lee Stone (Dorris); daughters, Cassandra Lynn Stone, Nola Harris and Erica Pitone; son, Samuel Derwin Stone; sisters-in-law, Annie Cunigen (Tidus), Dorothy White (Johnny), Florine Patterson (Alvin), Malale Milligan (Joe), Irene Ross and Charlie Weaver; one brother-in-law, Jerry Weaver; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Theodore Tarver Sr.
Mr. Theodore Tarver Sr. of Tampa, Fla. entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, in Tampa, Fla.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley, with the Rev. Herman Baker officiating. Burial was in the Georgia National cemetery in Canton.

Survivors include his daughter, Tanja (Cornelius) Evans, Fresno, Texas; his son, Theodore (Maria Pilar) Tarver Jr., Antioch, Calif.; four grandchildren, Theodore Tarver III, Sarah Tarver, Jeremy Gunn and Tiana Evans; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lillie Mae Terrell
Mrs. Lillie Mae Terrell, 83, of Avera entered into eternal rest Monday, Sept. 8, 2008.

Funeral services were on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church, Avera, with Pastor Perry Daniel Jr. officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Terrell Sr.

Survivors include five children, Carolyn (Stephen) Farmer, Atlanta, Clementine Brown, Hephzibah, Brenda Davis, Avera, George (Ann) Terrell Jr., Columbus, and Garvin L. Terrell, Saudi Arabia; three sisters, Lucille Shipman, Augusta, Julia (Hasting) Collier, Lawnside, N.J., Dorothy (Thomas) Grant, Atlanta; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge arrangements.

Mr. James Wilson Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. James Wilson Jr., 68, of West Palm Beach, Fla., were held Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Burnett Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Rose Burley officiating.

Survivors include his son, Gregory S. Wilson; three daughters, Terris Collions, Gail Dixon and Erika Jones; and sister, Mary Hearring.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Julia Gibbons
Ms. Julia Gibbons of Augusta entered into rest on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Heritage Nursing Home.

Julia was a baker for Sunshine Bakery for more than 50 years. She was the daughter of the late Oliver and Leola Gibbons.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church, Louisville, with Rev. Cecil Dunlap, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include Ralph Baker Jr., Augusta, Vivian Beaty, Ypsilanti, Mich., S. Denise and Cortni Monroe, Clinton, Md., Jacqueline Baker, Atlanta; sisters, Ethel Baker, Augusta, Gladys Beaty, Ypsilanti, Mich., and Ida Lee McNutt (Raeford), Champaign, Ill.; sister- in-law, Lorea Gibbons, Louisville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kinsey and Walton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Parker Harwell
Mrs. Mary Parker Harwell, 60, of Hephzibah entered into rest Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at Eisenhower Medical Center.

Mrs. Harwell was born July 22, 1948, in Louisville, to Ollie Atkinson Cook and the late Thomas Watson Parker. Mrs. Harwell was a member of Faith Baptist Church, a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class, and also sang in the choir.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Faith Baptist Church with Reverend Albert Halford officiating. Interment services followed at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Matthews.

Survivors include her husband, Troy L. Harwell; a daughter, Jennifer R. McGrail (Justin) of Rockford, Mich.; a granddaughter, Taryn Harwell; a sister, Peggy Ann Sullivan of Martinez; a brother, Louis Parker (Linda) of Grovetown; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church Building Fund, Hwy 1 & Hwy 88, Blythe, GA 30805.

Mrs. Annie Louise Samuels Jackson
Mrs. Annie Louise Samuels Jackson, 82, of Thomson died on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson.

Mrs. Jackson was a life long resident of McDuffie County and a member of Mt. Aldred CME Church.

Funeral services were at noon on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Mt. Aldred Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Warren County, with Rev. Willie J. Wiley officiating, Rev. George M. Glenn, eulogist. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherry J. Story, Wrens; three sons, Allan L. Jackson, Michael D. Jackson (Patricia), and T. C. "Teddy" Jackson, Sr., all of Thomson; eight grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; a sister, Lola Dunaway, Augusta; and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Bobby Albright Lawrence
Mr. Bobby Albright Lawrence, 76, of Augusta entered into rest Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at Doctors Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Don Stone officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Military Honors were accorded by the United States Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his wife Willie Mae Lawrence.

Survivors include two sons, Clyde F. Carlyn and Steve Robert Lawrence; two daughters, Phyllis (David) Alewine and Candy (Gunther) Turner; five sisters, Adell Black, Frances Honeycutt, Judy Tuten, Brenda Lawrence and Sybil Turner; two brothers, Gene Glover and Billy Glover; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the American Lung Association, 2452 Spring Road, SE, Smyrna, Georgia 30080.

Mrs. Susie Miller McClellan
Mrs. Susie Miller McClellan, 86, of Augusta entered into rest at her residence on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. McClellan had been a resident of Augusta for the past 59 years. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Girard and was a charter member of One Way Baptist Church of Augusta. Mrs. McClellan was a retired stenographer for the Equifax Corp.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with Rev. Billy Atkins officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Mr. Willie Mack McClellan; three children, Bill (Betty) McClellan of Augusta, Judith (Bob) McClellan Lewkowicz of Evans, and Brint McClellan of Marietta; sister, Emily Dixon of Girard; granddaughters, Jana (Ryan) West Anderson of Grovetown, Lauren Leigh McClellan and Meredith Ann McClellan, both of Marietta; and great-granddaughters, Taylor and Parker Anderson of Grovetown.

Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mattie "Bug" Fields Ramey
Mrs. Mattie “Bug” Fields Ramey, 82, of Washington, D.C., entered into rest on Monday, June 9, 2008.

She was the daughter of the late Willie “Juge” Fields and Anne Flournoy Fields of Louisville.

Interment was at Quantico National Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Willie Ramey II.

Survivors include five children; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Lizzie Fields Mimms of Washington D.C.; a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
