Mrs. Cleopha Passmore
Cleopha Passmore, 103, of Augusta, formerly of Louisville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, in Augusta.

She was the former Cleopha Habich, a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church in Augusta and a former member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Louisville.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated at noon on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, Lancashire Avenue at Bardstown Road, burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edwin Passmore Sr.; and a son, John Edwin Passmore Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Dolores P. Neudecker of Martinez; her son, R. C. Passmore of Louisville; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Donations may be made, in her memory, to St. Joseph Children’s Home.

Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Daniel "Danny" Stevens
Mr. William Daniel “Danny” Stevens, 70, of Wadley entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Stevens, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from Thermo-King and a member of the Nazarene Church.

Funeral services were on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Moxley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ruth Lovejoy officiating. Interment followed in the Moxley Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ida Stevens; a son, Randy Stevens; and a brother, Wayne Stevens.

Survivors include wife, Annie Ruth Williford of Wadley; daughter, Leigh Rabun (Stacy); four grandchildren, Kimberly and Phillip Stevens and Amanda and Steven Rabun; and sister, Donna McNeely.

Pallbearers were Jeff Chandler, Greg Chandler, Paul McMillan, Robert McMillan, Allen Dudley and John Stevens.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lillian Evelyn Thompson
Mrs. Lillian Evelyn Thompson, 83, of Swainsboro entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home.

Mrs. Thompson, born in Emanuel County, had lived in Swainsboro since 1987. She was retired from the retail grocery business and a member of Blundale Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held on Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Church cemetery, with Rev. Emory Fennell officiating.

Survivors include three daughters, Lucresia Sapp of Swainsboro, Pam Franklin (Wade) of Midville and Barbara Warnock (Charles) of Dublin; a son, George Thompson (Anita) of Avera; grandchildren, Kay Buelvas of Savannah, Mitch Warnock of Dublin, Matt Franklin of Midville, Hannah Franklin of Augusta, Sam Franklin of Midville, John Sapp of Athens and Ben Sapp of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Raul and Olivia Buelvas of Savannah.

Pallbearers were Matt Franklin, Sam Franklin, John Sapp, Ben Sapp, Mitch Warnock, Jerry Thompson, Paul Smith and Ronnie Thompson.

Memorials may be made to the United Hospice Inc., 667 South Main St., Swainsboro, Ga. 30401 or Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home, 117 Kite Rd., Swainsboro, Ga. 30410.

Mrs. Betty Bowen Waters
Mrs. Betty Bowen Waters, 78, of Thomson entered into rest on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta. Mrs. Waters was born in Sandersville and had lived in Wadley for 60 years. She was a homemaker.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at the New Bethel Church Cemetery, with Rev. Louis Pearce officiating.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Bailey of Harlem and Ann Lowery of Grovetown; four grandchildren, Regina Kozlowski of Charleston, S.C., Belinda Tuttle of Statesboro, Herman Price of Kite and Starr Shiver; brother, James Bowen of Tennille; and sister, Mildred Harbuck of Atlanta.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sue Beasley Wells
Mrs. Sue Beasley Wells died on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Keysville Health Care Center following several years of declining health. She was 72 years old.

The graveside service was conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery near Avera.

Survivors include her sisters and brothers, Frances Newman of Augusta, John Beasley of Leavenworth, Kansas, Florence Pressley of Greenville, S.C., Jean Cashwell of Beech Island, S.C., Thelma Adcock of Athens, Amy Gormley of Augusta, Elton Beasley, and Felton Beasley, both of Stapleton. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Beasley and Amy Powell Harden; her sisters, Pauline Miller and Dorothy Watkins; her brother, Paul Beasley; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The Poteet Funeral Homes was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Sharon Kirkey Cason
Mrs. Sharon Kirkey Cason, 55, entered into rest Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Cason was a member of Saint Theresa Catholic Church. Mrs. Cason was a medical transcriber.

Mrs. Cason was preceded in death by her father, Paul George Kirkey.

Survivors include her son, Brian Kirkey; her mother, Mary L. Kirkey; two brothers, Michael D. Kirkey and Patrick E. (Joyce) Kirkey; a sister, Carol (Tom) Pugh; a grandson, Robert Paul Kirkey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Hattie Ruth Palmer Curry
Hattie Ruth Palmer Curry entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at the Inova Cameron Glen Care Facility in Reston, Va.

Hattie is the daughter of the late Lee and Lenora Palmer. A native of Jefferson County, she resided in Louisville for the last 20 years until her health failed and she moved to Reston, Va. with her daughter and son-in-law. Hattie joined the Gethsemane Baptist Church at an early age; she also served on the Usher Board for many years until her health failed. She was a former employee of the Jefferson Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Avera, with Rev. C.W. Stone officiating and Rev. Carlos Newton Sr. presiding.

Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn (Cleveland) Wheat of Reston, Va.; four sisters, Betty Palmer, Augusta, Ida Hamilton of Philadelphia, Pa, Daisy Palmer of Charlotte, N.C., and Catherine Padilla of Atlanta; two brothers, William Palmer of Augusta and Larry Palmer of Philadelphia, Pa.; two aunts, Lola Mae Roberts of Stapleton and Eddie Daniels of Wrens; one great-aunt, Julia Stone of Warrenton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Willodean "Dean" Cyler
Mrs. Willodean “Dean” Cyler, 57, of Louisville entered into rest Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at an Augusta Hospital.

Mrs. Cyler was a native of Jefferson County and the daughter of the late Thomas Brown, Sr. and Margree Robinson Brown. At an early age she joined the Sandvalley AME Church and attended Jefferson County High. She relocated to East Point before returning to Jefferson County in 2008.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel and Sandvalley AME Church Cemetery, with Rev. Scottie Swinney officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Cyler.

Survivors include her siblings, Sarah (Willie) Johnson of Louisville, Marion (Ralphiel) Range of East Point, Thomas (Carolyn) Brown Jr. and Freeman Brown, both of Louisville; sisters-in-law, Bernice Hunley, Tressie (David) Cyler, Susie (Willie) Ponder and Martha Brown; brother-in-law, Clevland Seaford of Augusta; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bessie Ruth Hughes Everson
Mrs. Bessie Ruth Hughes Everson, 89, of Wilmington, Del., entered into rest Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, in Florida.

Mrs. Everson was a native of Gibson, where she was born on the family farm and graduated from Gibson High School and attended Georgia A&M; College. She was a cashier and a homemaker.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Martin officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David Crockett and Anne May Dismuke Hughes; and her husband, Albert C. Everson.

Survivors include a son, David Everson (Barbara) of Marco Island, Fla.; grandchildren, Donna Pearl (David) of Weston, Fla., Dawn Crockett (Daniel) of Gettysburg, Pa., and David Everson Jr. (Jennifer) of Chesapeake City, Md.; four brothers, David C. Hughes (Julia), Robert Hughes (Elizabeth), George O. Hughes and Gene Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Andrew and Alec Weston, Kaitlyn and Colton Crokett, and Nicholas and Dominick Everson.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnnie Lee Heggs
Mr. Johnnie Lee Heggs of Augusta entered into rest Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at the VA Medical Center.

He was a native of Jefferson County and a U.S. Army veteran.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. William Bussey officiating. Burial was in Gordon Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Louisville.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Mason; six sons, Lawrence Davis, Louisville, Johnnie Heggs, Macon, Levi Heggs, Pelham, Jerome Blount, Benjamin Heggs and Freddie Heggs, all of Augusta; five daughters, Malvenia Jones, Janie Dickson, Annette Heggs, Mary Holmes and Pearl Heggs, all of Augusta; aunt; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marion Jenkins
Mrs. Marion Jenkins, 90, of Thomson entered into rest Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Jenkins was born in Glascock County and was the daughter of the late Ernie Hadden and the late Sally Ivey Hadden. She was a graduate of Georgia State College in Milledgeville and was a graduate of Clemson University. Mrs. Jenkins taught school and was a homemaker. She was an avid bridge player, and played golf with the Women’s League. Mrs. Jenkins was also a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and a member of First Baptist Church in Thomson.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Gary Hadden officiating. Interment followed at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Nelson Jenkins.

Survivors include a son, Joe Jenkins (Sherry) of Dacula; sisters, Julia Hughes of Thomson, Corrie Hawkins of Huntsville, Ala. and Betty Haddon of Gibson; five grandchildren, Maria Stacks, Chris Jenkins, Jonathan Jenkins, Jason Jenkins and Amy Jenkins; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Chris Jenkins, Jason Jenkins, Doug Stacks, Don Hadden, Larry Hadden and Ronnie Hadden.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 1899 Central Ave. Augusta, GA 30904-5739.

Mr. Lamar S. Jones
Mr. Lamar S. Jones, 71, of Wadley entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2008, at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville.

Mr. Jones was born in Washington County the son of the late Johnny Montgomery Jones and the late Willie Pearl Dye Jones. He was retired from the Civil Service as a mechanic at Fort Gordon and a member of the Wadley Baptist Church. Mr. Jones was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 94. He is predeceased by his wife Kathryn Pollett Jones.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Sisters Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiated.

Survivors include his children, Clifford Allen Jones (Tracy) of Macon, Shane Stephen Jones (Anita) of Hawaii, and Sharon Kathryn J. Meadows (Darin) of Perry; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Johnny Jones and Harvard Jones (Mary) both of Sandersville and Robert Jones (Jan) of Savannah; and sisters Mable J. Hodges of Louisville and Nellie Ruth J. Powell (Virgil) of Sandersville.

Pallbearers were members of the American Legion Post 94.

Donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis American Association 706 Haddonfield Rd. Cherry Hill, NJ. 08002.

Ms. Bertha Mae Kelly
Ms. Bertha Mae Kelly, 71, of Louisville entered into rest on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Rosier Grove Baptist Church and cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Largie A. Dukes of Vidette and Marcus D. Kelly of Augusta; one nephew, John Oliver of Atlanta; her siblings, Elease Bryant of Rosier and Susie Mattox of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren, Valencia Anderson, Shameka Dukes, Marketritice Kelly, Markel Kelly, D’Landria Tucker, Isiah Kelly, Quametk Flournoy and DaMario Kelly; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews cousins and other relatives, and friends.

The family maybe contacted at the residence, of her granddaughter Valenica Anderson, 6048 Story Mill Rd., Keysville or at Davis Funeral Home.
