Mr. Archie “Walter” Rabun, 80, of Thomson entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at the V. A. Medical Center.
Mr. Rabun was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Thomson since 1956. He was a member of Thomson Church of God. He was an Army veteran, and had worked for Clark and Schwebel.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at the Thomson Church of God, with Rev. Bobby Farmer and Dr. Don Widener officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Rabun, Thomson; his daughter, Melba (Danny) Dees, Thomson; his sons, Gary (Tabbie) Rabun, Thomson, Darrell Rabun, Thomson; his stepdaughter, Diane (Bobby) Farmer; his stepsons, Robby (Julie) Powell, Thomson, and Tim (Katrina) Powell, Thomson; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Billy Dees, Christopher Rabun, Kyle Rabun, Dewayne Rabun, Jimmy Garthright and Matt Garthright.

Infant Milagros Isabella Ramirez
Infant Milagros Isabella Ramirez of Wrens entered into rest Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Mount Moriah cemetery with Pastor Chris Henry officiating.
Survivors include her parents, Jorge Ramirez and Santana Avery; grandparents, Victoria Hernandez and the late Martin Hernandez of Wrens, Albertina Garcia and Jorge Ramirez Sr. of Honduras; great-grandparents, Lula McNeal of Wrens, and Joe McNeal Sr. of Commerce; aunt, Samantha Vega of Wrens; two cousins, Simuel Avery of Wrens, and Francisco Vega Jr. of Commerce; four aunts in Honduras; and one uncle in Grovetown.

Mrs. Sallie Mae Ramsey
Mrs. Sallie Mae Ramsey of Louisville entered into rest on Nov. 13, 2008.
Mrs. Ramsey was born on Dec. 25, 1918, in Jefferson County to the late Anderson and Julia Harmon Braclett. She was a member of Eden Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board and was a member of the Senior Choir.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Eden Baptist Church in Louisville, with Rev. J.O. Nelson, Rev. King Mack and Rev. Willie Jackson.
Preceding her in death were her children, Jimmy Ramsey, Harvey Ramsey, Eugene Ramsey, Emily Ramsey, Julia Ramsey, (twins) Tommy and James Ramsey; and siblings, Anderson Braclett Jr., Charlie Braclett, Clarence Braclett, Isaac Braclett, Tommie Braclett, Emma L. Andrews, Claudia Batts and Sadie Tarver.
Survivors include her children, Annie P. Grant (Robert), Louise Holloway, Julia M. Scott, Orbey Ramsey, Edith Ramsey, Willie Ramsey and Dorothy Wilson (Gerald), all of Louisville, Charlotte Hadden (Eugene) of Wadley, Teresa Phillips (Ronald) of Waynesboro, and Allen Ramsey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; stepsons, John Cunningham (Zannie) of Louisville, Johnny Ramsey (Daisy Pearl) of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; children she helped raise, Eula Mack, Carl Walden, Albert L. Jenkins, Nancy Harmon (Eli) and Stacy Ramsey; daughters-in-law, Bessie Ramsey and Mary Frances Ramsey, both of Fort Lauderdal, Fla.; 44 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Laurie Shelton Scarber
Mrs. Laurie Shelton Scarber, 79, of Gibson entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at the University Hospital, Augusta.
Mrs. Laurie was a native of Jefferson County but lived in Glascock County most of her life. She was a member of Bethel UMC and was active in the church. She was a member of the Glascock County senior citizens group and a seamstress for 60 years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Bethel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Steve Lamb and Rev. Sam Collins officiating. Internment was in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy “Roy” Scarber; her parents, Herbert and Millie Hadden Shelton; two brothers, Herbert “Buck” Shelton and M.A. Shelton.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Chapman of Gibson and Dorothy (Bill) Raley of Mitchell; one son, Wayne (Sheila) Scarber of Gibson; one sister, Helen “Gat” Gunby of Martinez; and one brother, Jimmy Shelton of Boneville; five grandchildren, Greg Chapman, Michelle Palmer, Justin Raley, Samatha Scarber, and Amanda Scarber; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James C. Gunby, Randy Gunby, Marvin Shelton, Everett Williford, Chris Shelton and Rodney Newsome.

LTC (Ret) William “Bill” D. Ray III
LTC (Ret) William “Bill” D. Ray III, 76, of Pooler entered into rest Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, in Savannah.
Mr. Ray was born on Nov. 24, 1931, in Montgomery, Ala., and was raised in Bartow. Mr. Ray was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He received his masters degree from Troy University in Alabama. He served our armed forces for over 27 years and was a Vietnam veteran, Master Aviator and Ranger. He is the recipient of the Legion of Merit, 21 Air Medals and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Mr. Ray was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pooler and the Harvesters Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Rotary International and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Pooler with Rev. Otis Hill officiating. Burial was at 3:30 p.m. at the Bartow City cemetery in Bartow with full military honors and Pastor Ruth Lovejoy officiating.
Survivors include wife Gail Holland Ray; sons, MAJ (Ret) David G. (Linda) Ray, Currituck, N.C., LTC (Ret) George D. Ray, Clemmons, N.C.; daughters, Salita R. Mr. James Earl Buckner, 71, of Gibson entered into rest Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at the Gibson First Baptist Church, with Rev. Jarrod Adkins officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Templeton Buckner; two stepsons, Bob Norton of Danielsville and Chuck Norton of Augusta; two stepdaughters, Connie Price of Gibson and Jan Rushing of Augusta; four sisters, Glenda Hooper, Patsy Buckner and Marie Scroggs, all of Clearwater, S.C., and Kay Newsome of Windsor, S.C.; several grandchildren.

Mr. Calvin J. Chalker
Mr. Calvin J. Chalker, 73, of Gibson entered into rest Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Chalker was a native of Glascock County and lived there all of his life. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church, an Army veteran and was retired from Milliken and Company, Thomson.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church, with Rev. Al Kurtz officiating. Interment was in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brewster and Maude Sheppard Chalker.
Survivors include his son, Joey (Diane) Chalker of Thomson; two grandsons, Shane (Terri) Chalker and Kevin (Hope) Chalker; one brother, Donald (Becky) Chalker of Lincolnton; and one sister, Ruth Reese of Augusta; and a friend, Zylphia Reese.

Mrs. Joyce Dawson Dixon
Mrs. Joyce Dawson Dixon, 81, of Augusta entered into rest Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Heartland Hospice.
A native of Avera, Mrs. Dixon was valedictorian of her graduating high school class. She worked and retired as a secretary at Veterans Administration Medical Center at Lynwood. She and her husband were members of Crawford Avenue for 60 years and recently became members of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel, with Rev. Donald Lumpkin and Rev. Brian La Favor officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Avera.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Rudolph S. Dixon; one son, Rudolph S. Dixon Jr. (Cheryl); two daughters, Sandra Gay (Eddie), and Joy Newman, all of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Byron Gay (Tracie), Scott Gay (Nancy), Lora Alford (Gil), Allison Dixon, Ashley Hill (Nick), Whitney Dixon, Brian Newman Jr. and Brooke Maryak (Justin); eight great-grandchildren; a friend, Harold “Chocolate” Dye; and her dog, Precious.

Mrs. Lessie Brinson Lamb, 94, of Midville entered into rest early Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, in the Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, from the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Old Garbutt cemetery in Summertown.

Mrs. Idell H. Land
Mrs. Idell H. Land, 70, of Thomson entered into rest on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at her residence.
Mrs. Land was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She had retired as a medical supply specialist from Fort Gordon. Mrs. Land was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Lady’s Bible Class. She was a past member of the Thomson Lioness Club.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at 3 p.m. in the Second Baptist Church, with Dr. Ron Drawdy officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include, her husband, Charles “Roy” Land, Thomson; her three daughters, Susan (Glenn) Edwards, Thomson, Gail (Roy) Taylor, Dearing, and Lisa (Phil) McCorkle, Thomson; a son, Shawn (Lisa) Land, Thomson; a sister-in- law, Emily Smith, Thomson; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Christopher Taylor, Terry Sherrer, Scott Corbitt, Cody Corbitt, Phillip Edwards and Leroy Clark.

Mr. James Edwin McCoy
Mr. James Edwin McCoy, 95, of Louisville entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, in the Old Capitol Inn in Louisville following an extended illness.
Mr. McCoy was a native of Jefferson County, the son of the late James Alton McCoy and the late Blanche Eleanor Nash McCoy. He was the husband of the late Zelma Raley McCoy. Mr. McCoy was a retired loan administrator for the Farmers and Home Administration. He was an army veteran of World War II. Mr. McCoy was a member of the Providence Baptist Church and a member of the Cochran Lions Club. He was a former resident of Cochran and Lafayette.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at Providence Baptist Church, Grange. Rev. Larry Montgomery, Rev. Don Black and Rev. Larry Martin officiated, with burial in the Davisboro Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Harriett McCoy of Baxley; four grandchildren, James McCoy of Jacksonville, Fla., Matthew McCoy of Savannah, Thomas McCoy of Baxley, and Amy Brewer of Hazlehurst; three great-grandchildren, Jesse Blanton, Jacob Blanton and Kathryn Brewer.
Pallbearers were Frank Moye, John Amos III, Wayne Mathis, James McCoy, Matthew McCoy and Thomas McCoy.

Mrs. Maggie Moye
Mrs. Maggie Moye entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at St. Joseph Hospital, Tampa, Fla. after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and Cemetery.
Mrs. Moye was born Aug. 24, 1921, to the parentage of the late Mary Johnson Burton and Pompie Burton in Louisville, Jefferson County. She lived in Louisville until relocating to Tampa, Fla. in 2002 because of health reasons. She was a member of the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church where she served until her health failed. She was also a member of the local prayer band in Wren Quarters. She was married
to the late Mr. Joseph Moye in 1944.
She was preceded in death by her husband; mother; father; sisters, Julia and Lula; and two granddaughters, Gayla and Aisha.
Survivors include children, Ms. Mary (William) Ferguson of Atlanta, Willie Moye, Georgia Moye, Dorothy Moye and Dianne Moye Ikeokwe, all of Tampa, Fla., and Vinnie Pinkston of Louisville; sister, Lillie Gibbons; brother, Issac Burton; seven grandchildren, Tony Ferguson, Aletris Floyd, Armanesia Smith, Darren Kitchen, De-Lewon Moye, Shaqura Jackson, Durrell Moye; 10 great-grandchildren; a niece, Lillie Kemp; and friends, Cressie Hill and Hillerrette Robinson.
