Miss Timika K. Wise
Miss Timika K. Wise, 35, of Wrens, died on Monay, Dec. 31, 2007, at her residence.

She was born on June 13, 1972, in Camden, N.J. Miss Wise is the daughter of Clifton Wise and the late Linda Wise.

Funeral services for Miss Timika K. Wise, of Wrens, were held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at 4 p.m. at Burnett Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Willie L. Jones officiating. Burial was at Bethlehem AME Church Cemetery, Avera.

Survivors include her father Clifton Wise of Camden, N.J.; a sister, Angela Wise of Wrens; a brother, Ronald Goodwin of New Jersey; and Godmother, Carrie Smith of Wrens.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Benjamin Eugene "Ben" Anderson
Mr. Benjamin Eugene “Ben” Anderson, 28, of Dahlonega, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at his residence.

Born in Richmond County, Ben had lived in Hall County for nine years and in Dahlonega for the past six years. He also had lived in Louisville and Monroe for a number of years. He was a graduate of the North Hall High School class of 1997, where he played baseball, basketball and ran cross country. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. Ben also attended Young Harris College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 2002 with a B.S. degree in social science education. He was employed with Hussey, Gay, Bell and DeYoung as a land surveyor. Ben was a member of the Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at the Lakewood Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. Tom Smiley, Rev. Dr. Jerry Gill and Rev. Dr. Jim Ramsey officiated. Interment followed at 3:30 p.m. in the Damascus Baptist Church cemetery in the Leah Community of Columbia County.

Survivors include his parents, Cathy and Gene Anderson, Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Julie Anderson Norwood and Guerry Norwood, Valdosta; grandparents, Julia Eubank Anderson, Appling, Shirley Lassetter Henson, St. Simons Island; godmother, Doris K. Thomas, Louisville; a number of aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Ben Anderson Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of any United Community Bank location in Hall and Lumpkin counties or a charity of one’s choice.

Mason and Ward Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Merial C. Buford
Mrs. Merial C. Buford, 93, entered into rest Monday, Jan. 14, 2008.

Mrs. Buford was a native of Louisville, and had resided in Augusta since 1954. She was a graduate of Candler School of Nursing in Savannah. Mrs. Buford retired as a registered nurse with the VA Medical Center. She was a member of the American Nurses Association and the Georgia Nurses Association, the 10th District Nurses Association and an honorary member of the University Hospital Alumni Association. She was a member of The Hill Baptist Church and the Ruth Bible Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband Francis W. Buford.

Survivors include her sister, Emma Frances Hervieux of Springfield, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with Dr. Michael Ruffin and Rev. Fred Gunter officiating. Interment followed in Westover Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Ryan Heath, Charles Heath, Chris Lane, Troy James, Heath James, Julian O’Quinn, Frank Nieberling and Wayne Dye.

Memorials may be made to The Hill Baptist Church, 2165 Kings Way, Augusta, GA 30904.

Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Eliza Evans
Mrs. Eliza Evans, of Gough, entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at 1 p.m. at St. Clair Baptist Church, Keysville. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Carter’s Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Huldah Rountree Gluesenkamp
Mrs. Huldah Rountree Gluesenkamp, 89, died Sunday evening, Jan. 13, 2008 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.

Mrs. Gluesenkamp was born Huldah Ann Springer in Jackson, Miss. on July 27, 1918. Formerly of Dyersburg, Tenn., she had lived most of her life in Wadley. She was retired from Avon as a district manager after 22 years of service and a member of the Wadley Baptist Church where she taught the Dorcas Sunday School Class for many years.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at the Wadley Baptist Church, with Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Interment followed in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Allen Rountree in 1981, and Gordon Gluesenkamp and by a daughter, Martha Julia Rountree.

Survivors include a son, Bryan (Shelly) Rountree of Statesboro; a daughter, Rachel (Bob) Mason of Covington; grandchildren, Bailey Rountree, Blair Rountree and Elizabeth Mason; and step-grandchildren, Clary and Kari Wiggins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30458.

Smith Funeral Home, of Wadley, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mattie Gilmore Hudson
Mrs. Mattie Gilmore Hudson, of Wadley entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, in Wadley.

Her funeral was held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Alma J. (Ronnie) McCladdie, Augusta; two sons, Larry (Elizabeth) Hudson, Macon, and Ronnie E. (Kathryn) Hudson Sr., Wadley; three stepsons, James Hudson Jr., Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Farris M. (Jewel) Hudson Sr., Wadley, and Marion Hudson, New York; four sisters, Elma C. Swint and Nola Gilmore, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Bernice McIntosh and Barbara J. Williams, Wadley; five brothers, Will Gilmore, Brooklyn, N.Y., Neal Gilmore and Myles Gilmore, Wadley, Willie Gilmore, Providence, Ky., and James (Blanche) Gilmore, Warner Robbins; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were friends of the family.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Vernedia Jordan Jackson
Mrs. Vernedia Jordan Jackson, 94, of Warrenton, died Jan. 7, 2008, at the Gibson Health Rehabilitation Center in Gibson.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Marietta Jordan; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma R. Sapp of Macon, and Lois Jordan of Monroe, Mich.

Services were held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Gibson.

Dawson’s Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Moses Lamar
Mr. Moses Lamar, of Louisville, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008.

He was a contractor.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and burial was in Jones Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Louisville.

Mrs. Mary N. McTier
Mrs. Mary N. McTier, 83, of Thomson, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. McTier was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She had retired from Uniroyal.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bobby Farmer officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Hershel McTier.

Survivors include her daughters, Imo Clemenes, Thomson; Mylan Betounes, Valdosta; two sons, Wally Redfern, Thomson, and Mickey Redfern, North Charleston, S.C.; five sisters, one brother, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Kids Wish Network, McDuffie County/GA Campaign, C/O National Gift Processing Center, P.O. 17217 Indianapolis, IN 46217-0217. Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Myron "Lou" Richardson
Mr. Myron “Lou” Richardson, 37, of Bartow, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 in Bartow.

His funeral was held on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Tarvers Grove Baptist Church in Bartow with the Rev. Harold Moore and Rev. J.C. Green officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Leroy and Annie Lois Richardson, Bartow; five daughters, Kreshawn Moye, Bartow, and Corey Richardson, Dena Richardson, Quenesha Richardson and Tiera Richardson, Norfolk, Va.; one son, Myron Richardson Jr., Norfolk, Va.; one sister, Renarta (Ricardo) Merrell, Tennille; two brothers, Scottie Jones, Iraq and Fredrick Jones, Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Willie L. Watson, Eric Watson and Dennis Hodges.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Travis Fay Rooks
Mr. Travis Fay Rooks, 72, of Stapleton, entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008.

Mr. Rooks was a retired supervisor at Stapleton Garment Company, a member of the Stapleton United Methodist Church and served in the National Guard. He was the son of the late Aaron Jerimiah Rooks and Mattie Lou Williams Rooks.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wayne Racz, Rev. Sam Collins and Chaplain Pauline Hughes officiating. Burial followed at Stapleton Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Rooks was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Rooks.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, June Prescott Rooks; son, Travis E. Rooks; a daughter, Faye (Bill) R. Jones; two sisters, Sue (Weldon) Purvis, and Nelda (Jimmy) Williams; a granddaughter, Kristy Jones and a sister-in-law, Doris Rooks.

Pallbearers were his nephews: Ray Rooks, Tim Williams, Doug Williams, Daniel Bazemore, Jeff Bazemore and Clay Prescott.

Mrs. Inez Williford
Mrs. Inez Williford, of Hanahan, S.C., entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, in Charleston, S.C.

Mrs. Williford, a native of Augusta, had lived in Hanahan for the past nine years. She was a manager with the Pantry Convenience Stores and she was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with the Reverend Jerry G. Wilson officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Williford; her mother and stepfather, Dorothy and J.V. Summers of Augusta; daughters, Jennifer Williford-Torres of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Jessica L. Williford of Hanahan, S.C.; sister, Donna Walker of Montgomery, Ala.; brother, Andy Sims of Wrens.

Memorials, if desired, may be sent to 5820 Murray Dr., Apt. C8, Hanahan, SC 29410.

Mrs. Charlene Newsome Bridges
Mrs. Charlene Newsome Bridges, 45, Stapleton, entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008.

Mrs. Bridges, a lifelong resident of the Augusta area, was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held from the Chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at 3 p.m. with the Reverend Matthew Nelson officiating. Interment followed in Steadman Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Don Bridges; her mother, Lee Ellen Carroll of Augusta; father and step-mother, Walter Frank and Edna Newsome; sons, James Randy Cook Jr. of Augusta, Charles Bridges, II of Wrens, and William T. Bridges of Appling; daughters, Candie Davis of Augusta, and Christie Tarr of Wrens; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rodney and Garland Newsome Sr. of Hephzibah, Emmett and Katy Rhodes Jr. of Evans, Steve and Mychele Rhodes of Thomson, and Larry Joe and Marcie Newsome of Lyons; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mary M. Brown
Mrs. Mary M. Brown, 87, entered into rest Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Trinity Hospital, Augusta.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Springfield A.M.E. Church, Stapleton, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Michael Ephraim officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
