Mr. Eugene “J.B.” Calhoun, 60, of Thomson, passed at his residence on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008.

Funeral services for Mr. Eugene “JB” Calhoun were held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Piney Grove Baptist Church, Dearing, with the Rev. Mark Downs, and Rev. Sylvester Nabritt. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include wife, Mary L. Calhoun of Thomson; two sons, Terry (Evette) Leverett of Wrens, Willie Leverett, Thomson; daughter, Gloria (Melvin) Wilson of Wrens; two sisters, Mary (Tracy) Ivery and Grace Calhoun of Thomson; five brothers Jefferson (Mary) Calhoun, Seymour Calhoun, Cato Calhoun and Vennie (Jackie) Calhoun all of Thomson, and David (Brenda) Calhoun of Greenwood, S.C.; mother-in-law, Juanita F. Leverette of Thomson; father-in-law, Joseph Leverette of Dearing; brothers-in-law, Tommy (Cheryl) Leverett, Terry L. Leverett and James Leverett, all of Thomson, Lindsey Leverett of Wrens, and Moses (Carlotta) Leverett of Grovetown; sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Leverett of Thomson; two granddaughters, Briana and Bianca Leverett of Augusta; one great-granddaughter, Rihonna Patterson of Augusta; five aunts, Gladys Huff, Mary Goins, Robbie Brown and Nance Felton of Detroit, Mich., and Stola Patterson, Charleston, S.C.; honorable uncle Deacon Vennie Calhoun of Thomson; devoted pet companion and best friend Mikey, and a host of other relatives and friends. Thomson Funeral System was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Mildred Jackson Davis
Mrs. Mildred Jackson Davis, of Bartow, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Bartow.

Her funeral was held on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Kingdom Life Fellowship Ministries in Harrison, with Apostle Clifford Duckworth Sr. officiating. Burial was in the Scotts Chapel Church Cemetery, Pringle.

Pallbearers were Buddy Mack, Steve Braddy, Robert Flounnory, Alvin Jackson, Jimmy Bass and Lester Jackson.

Survivors include three daughters, Frances (Paul) Jackson of Bartow, and Helen Daniels and Gail (Billy) Bussell of Wrightsville; four sons, Rev. Perry (Lois) Davis of Warthen, and Willie Davis, Kurtis Davis and Glenn (Gloria) Davis of Bartow; two sisters, Zora Hall of Atlanta, and Lillie Frances Thomas of Philadelphia, Pa.; 36 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mable Warren Riddles Ellisor
Mrs. Mable Warren Riddles Ellisor, 85, of Augusta, entered into rest Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Doctors Hospital.

Mrs. Ellisor was born on Dec. 9, 1922 at Russell County, Phoenix City, Ala. Mrs. Riddles was a member of Wrens United Methodist Church, she was an avid gardener. She was preceded in death by her husband Rodney Riddles and second husband Warren Ellisor. She was the daughter of the late John Warren and Gussie Warren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Charles Riddles officiating. Burial followed at Wrens Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Bobbie Enfinger Byrd, Hephzibah, Bert Riddles Jr., Grand Ridge, Fla., Zane Riddles Sr., Milton, Fla., and Charles Riddles, Smeads, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jamie Enfinger, Michael Williams, James Enfinger and Matthew Enfinger.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Leroy "Lee" Flonnory
Mr. Leroy Flonnory, 68 departed this life Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at the Ebenezer CME Church and Cemetery, Bartow.

Mr. Flonnory was a native of Jefferson County, a member of the Ebenezer CME Church. He attended Jefferson County Schools and was a farmer and logger.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Lee Flonnory of Wadley; His son, Roger Lee Heggs of Wadley; his mother, Hattie Ruth Marion Flonnory of Bartow; siblings, Annie Ruth Flonnory of Bartow and Issac Flonnory of Delaware; grandchildren, Roger Gilmore of Atlanta and Regina Gilmore of Wadley; Great grandchildren, Kydon Gilmore, Raekwon Cuyler and Savion Tennyson of Wadley; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Willie Mae Heggs and Mae Frances Heggs of Waldey, Louise Heggs of Mass., Alice Heggs of Louisville, Ed (Alice) Heggs of Bartow and Johnnie Heggs of California; a host os nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Family maybe contacted at the residence, 7001 Old U.S. 1, Waldey or at Davis Funeral Home.

Davis Funeral Home, 725 Beech Street is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Leroy Flounnory.

Rev. Samuel Martin
Rev. Samuel Martin, of Wadley, entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Swainsboro.

His funeral was held on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at Pineola Church of God in Wadley, with Rev. H.L. Tanner officiating. Burial was in the Brinson Hill cemetery .

Survivors include four daughters, Winnie Tullis, Ft. Pierce, Fla., Minister Louise Passmore, Wadley, Ora Morgan, Louisville, and Frances (Thomas) Berry, Wrens; four sons, Rev. Freddie (Cheryl) Martin, Philadelphia, Pa., Nathaniel (Gracie) Martin, Augusta, and John H. (Willie Mae) Martin and Benjamin (Earnestine) Martin, Wadley; his step-children, Martha Headspeth, Marie Edwardson, Josephine Gaston and Henrietta Gaston, New York, Betty Roberts, Avera, and Christine Goodson, Wrens; 50 grandchildren, 106 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Freddie Martin Sr., Nathaniel Martin Sr., Nathaniel Martin Jr., Steve Martin, Dea. Walter Price and Dea. Isaac Bivins.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ed McCoy
Mr. Ed McCoy, 69, of Wrens, entered into rest Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008.

Mr. McCoy was the husband of Mrs. Lillian McCoy.

Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Zeta cemetery in Tennille, with Rev. Emory Lindsey and Rev. Danny Thomas officiating.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Kyle "Mickey" Neal
Mr. Kyle “Mickey” Neal, 64, of Gibson, entered into rest Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Doctors Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. Neal was a member of the Gibson United Methodist Church, a member of the Plumbers and Steam Fitters Local 150, a native of Warren County, but lived in Gibson most of his life.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Gibson United Methodist Church, with Rev. Griffin Thompson officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Vivian Neal; his brother, Dan (Brother) Neal, and his sister, Emily Buckner.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mrs. Vesta W. Neal; three daughters, Dana (Ronnie) Rabun of Gibson, Denea (Ricky) Todd of Augusta, and Valarie (Vernon) Perry of Gibson; four sisters, Hilda (Calvin) McCoy, Sybil (J.W.) Braswell, Frankie (Earl) Porter, and Dianne (Glenn) Rabun, all of Gibson; four grandchildren, Coty Faglier, Kylee Perry, McKenzie Perry and River Todd.

Pallbearers were Ricky Todd, Ronnie Rabun, Vernon Perry, Coty Faglier, Glenn Rabun and Talmadge Chalker.

Memorials may be made to the Gibson United Methodist Church in care of Frankie Porter, 628 Lamb St., Gibson, GA 30810 or The Glascock County Concerned Citizens in care of Corene Chalker, 3037 Bastonville Rd., Gibson, GA 30810.

Mr. Bill Reese
Mr. Bill Reese, 71, of Mitchell, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Roper St. Francis Hospital, in Charleston S.C.

Mr. Reese was a native of Kite, but had lived in Thomson and Mitchell for many years. He attended the First Baptist Church of Thomson and The First Baptist Church of Gibson. He was a retired business owner.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. James Ramsey and Rev. Mike Cook officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Reese was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie Reese.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Patsy Reese, Mitchell; his daughter, Karen Reese, St. Petersburg, Fla.; his son, Kendel (Cristie) Reese, Atlanta; a sister, Patsy (Roy) Russell, Thomson; two brothers, Teddy (Rebecca) Reese, Thomson, and Edward Lee Smith, Kite.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Joseph "Buddy" Rollins
William Joseph "Buddy" Rollins, of Athens, died Jan. 15, 2008, at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Athens.

Mr. Rollins was born Feb. 28, 1919, to William Joseph and Alice Faglier Rollins of Avera. He graduated from Avera High School and later completed Microbiology Certification programs at Clemson University. He was retired from the Greenwood Commission of Public Works where he served as Superintendent of the Grace Street Water Works for many years. Mr. Rollins was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and served in the Pacific Theatre in the Battle of Okinawa, Japan and in Occupied Japan in Hiroshima, Japan. He also served in the Air Force Reserves during the 1950s. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Greenwood, S.C. Mr. Rollins married his wife of 67 years, Vivian Holsonback Rollins, in Greenwood, S.C., on March 11, 1940. She is a resident at Winterville Assisted Living in Athens.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Gabriel (Jay) of Pickens, S.C., and Mrs. Alice Ann Castengera (Michael) of Athens; five grandchildren, Julie Gabriel Ray, Amy Boxx Crews-Barker, Marisa Castengera, Vivian Castengera and Michael Adam Castengera; five great-grandchildren, Hannah Ray, Claire Ray, Anna Crews, Allen Crews and Paige Baker.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barrett Alewin officiating. Burial with military honors was at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood, S.C.

Pallbearers were J.E. Gabriel, Michael Castengera, Michael Adam Castengera, Greg Ray, Gary Barker and Matt Hawk.

Blyth Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Greenwood, S.C., were in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Lawana Hardin Whitaker
Mrs. Lawana Hardin Whitaker, 79, of Wrens, entered into rest Friday, Jan. 18, 2008.

Mrs. Whitaker was a member of Wrens Church of God. She was self-employed and retired as a beautician.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Harlon Noles and Rev. Gary Jones officiating. Burial followed at Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Thomas Whitaker, her parents, John Lewis Hardin Sr. and Laurie Usry Hardin, and her brother Limuel T. Hardin.

Survivors include her brother, John L. Hardin Jr.; her cousin and caregiver, Frances Connell; a niece, Gina Weeks; a nephew, Byrnie Hardin Sr.; a sister-in-law, Ginnie Hardin; and numerous cousins.

Pallbearers were Byrnie Hardin Sr., Byrnie Hardin Jr., Randy Hardin, Brian Hardin, Ray Smith and Kenneth Hardin.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Edna Varnel Stewart Brice Wilson
Mrs. Edna Varnell Stewart Brice Wilson, 80, beloved wife of Mr. P.G. Wilson, entered into rest on Saturday January 12, 2008, at Trinity Hospital Hospice .

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Fleming Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Atkins officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Victor R. Brice, Roy Woodard, Dean Cooper, Robert Ellis, Jr., Earl Williams and Elmer L. Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ruth Bible Class.

Mrs. Wilson was formerly employed as clerk with Augusta–Richmond County Health Department in the WIC office. She was also the former secretary of Gracewood Elementary School.

Survivors include her husband; son Victor R. Brice, daughter Cindrea J. Brice; daughters and sons-in-law Becky and Roy Woodard, Sandra and Dean Cooper; brother and sister-in-law Fred and Mildred Stewart; grandchildren Stephanie Brice, Chris and Amy Casalino, Matthew and Alissa Mendoza, Kristin and Joseph Bello Darius and Stacie Sojka, Lin and Jennifer Woodard, Stephen and Denise Cooper, Mark and Heather Marin; great grandchildren Landon Robert Brice, Elise Rose Mendoza, Isabelle Amor Bello, Krissa Lucille Casalino, Elana, Grayson and Emily Woodard, Tristan and Gavin Sojka, Rachel and Meagan Marin; nieces and nephews Barbara Ellis, Earl and Elaine Williams, Robert and Mary Ellis, Michael and Sandra Wikan, Tom and Dot Boone, Bud and Janet Peck and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Myrtle Ellis and her mother & father Pearl S. Stewart and James Samuel Stewart.

Mrs. Janice Gilmore Armstrong
Mrs. Janice Gilmore Armstrong, 69, of Martinez entered into rest Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008.

Mrs. Armstrong was a native of Louisville, a former resident of Smyrna, having made Martinez her recent home. She attended the Louisville United Methodist Church and the Warren Baptist Church since moving to Martinez. Mrs. Armstrong was the daughter of the late Harry Sewell and Helen Hodges Gilmore and was a retired agent with Northside Realty of Smyrna.

Memorial services were held Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church. Rev. Beau Taylor officiated. Private family interment was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jimmie M. Armstrong; two daughters, Michelle Brown, Louisville, Renee (Scott) Kelly, Martinez; a brother, Harry Gilmore Jr., Lincolnton; three grandchildren, Logan Kelly, Preston Kelly and Sydney Kelly.

Memorials may be made to the Louisville United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 269, Louisville, Ga. 30434.

Mr. Murray E. Hadden Sr.
Mr. Murray E. Hadden Sr., 70, of Stapleton entered into rest Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008, at the University Hospital, Augusta. A native of Glascock County, Mr. Hadden was a member and a deacon of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. He served for 20 years on the Glascock County Board of Commissioners with one term as chairman. He served on the C.S.R.A. Planning and Development Commission. He served on the Board of Directors for the Bank of Stapleton and worked with the U.S.D.A Boll Weavel Eradication Program.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. John Jenkins, Rev. Tony Key and Dr. Gary Hadden officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Mrs. Faye Allen Hadden; two sons, Murray E. Hadden Jr., and Keith (Candice) Hadden, all of Stapleton; one brother, Mr. Ralph (Blenda) Hadden of Gibson; and three grandchildren, Sarah Hadden, Will Hadden and Zach Hadden.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Miller, Doug Hadden, Ben Hadden, Larry Hadden, Jimmy Wren, Danny Beckworth, Mike Lyons and Frank McGahee.

Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of the church.
