Ms. Mary Byrd Shivers
Ms. Mary Byrd Shivers, 93, of Waynesboro entered into rest Monday, April 21, 2008, at the Keysville Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 3, 1914, in Jefferson County to the late Barney and Lily Byrd. Ms. Shivers had lived in Burke County for the past 72 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Vidette Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Graveside Services were held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at Rose Dhu Cemetery, Vidette, with Dr. Neely Gaston of Due West, S.C. officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Shivers Sr.
Survivors include four children, Paul H. Shivers Jr. (Judy) of Waynesboro, John G. Shivers (Gloria), Frances Johnson (Gary), and Ann Bevan (Frank), all of Vidette; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Flowers are being accepted, but memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Edward Tremble Sr. of Louisville departed this life Thursday, April 24, 2008.
Mr. Tremble was a native of Jefferson County. He joined the Pine Hill Baptist Church at an early age and attended Jefferson County public school.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at noon at Magnolia Baptist Church and cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Lakeia (Michael) Robinson of Rota, Spain, Tremeka (James Terrell) Tremble of Marietta, Edward Tremble Jr. of Louisville; his parents, James and Beatrice Jones Tremble of Louisville; his siblings, James Otis (Carolyn) Tremble, Dorothy Tremble (Alfornia) Tennyson, Milton (Mary) Tremble, Jesse (Denise) Tremble, Tommie (April) Mack all of Louisville, Valerie (Terries) Peeples of Wrens; grandchildren, Zion Robinson, Xcelelsior Robinson, Youssou Robinson and Jawuan Terrell; foster brothers and sisters, Mozella Grant, Wanda James, Otis Lee Blair, Donnell James and Curtis James of Louisville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Margie Davis Humphrey
Mrs. Margie Davis Humphrey, 88, of Louisville, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at the Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness.
Mrs. Humphrey was born in Washington County, the daughter of the late Ralph Davis Sr. and the late Elizabeth Joiner Davis. She was a homemaker and a former seamstress for the Market Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Humphrey was a member of the Louisville Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School class.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 27, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Louisville Baptist Church with burial in the Davisboro City Cemetery. Rev. Larry Montgomery and Rev. Larry Glover officiated.
Mrs. Humphrey is predeceased by her husband Pierce B. Humphrey.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Glover of Riddleville; her sister-in-law Betty Humphrey of Sandersville; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Glover, Jody Glover, Dan Glover, Curtis Wilcher, Ronald Davis, Benjamin Davis, Allen Bowen and Bob Powell.

Mr. Harold K. Young
Harold K. Young, 86, of Grovetown entered into rest Thursday, April 24, 2008, at a local hospital. Mr. Young lived in the area all his life and retired from E.I. DuPont after working there for 28 years. He was a member of Cliffwood Presbyterian Church for 46 years, serving as Deacon and Elder. Mr. Young served his country in WWII in the Army Air Force with the Mighty Eighth.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Cliffwood Presbyterian Church with Pastor Charles Rector and Pastor Michael Cannon officiating. Burial followed at Wrens Memorial cemetery in Wrens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter J. and Nannie Brown Young; brothers, Jim and W.J. Young; and sisters, Lucia Grant, Marie Moore, Edith Whittle and Kathryn Young.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen Beckworth Young; a son, Kenneth Young, North Augusta; daughter, Sue (John) Strange, Lawrenceville; four grandchildren, Hunter Young, Jarrad Young, both of Augusta, Taylor Strange, Lawrenceville, and Rachel Young, North Augusta; and one great-grandchild, Gage Young.

Mr. Walter Brown
Mr. Walter Brown of McBee, S.C. died on Thursday, April 17, 2008.
Mr. Brown was born in Chesterfield County on April 8, 1938. He was the son of the late O’Neal and Mary McTier Brown. He received his education in the public schools in the area. He was a retired from the Conduction Cigar Company after 20 years.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, McBee, S.C., at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wayne Blackwell officiating.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Vanessa Brown.

Mr. Johnny Dean Cason
Mr. Johnny Dean Cason, 46, of Wrens entered into rest Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Cason was born in Clarke County, but lived in Glascock County and Jefferson County for several years. He was a heavy equipment operator and attended the Church of God.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the Millcreek Baptist cemetery in Glascock County, with Rev. Charles Reese officiating.
Survivors include his mother, Sara (Carroll) Cooper Reid of Thomson; sons, Daniel Cason Sheffield and Johnny Dean Cason Jr., both of Wrens; daughter, Julie Otten of Gibson; stepdaughter, Brittany Newsome of Wrens; brothers, Danny Cason of Wrens, Donnie Cason and Dennis Cason, both of Stockbridge; sisters, Dianne Nunnely and Debra Sparks, both of Stockbridge; and companion, Dorothy Newsome of Wrens.

Mr. Clarence “Frog” Gamble Sr., 70, of Bartow departed this life Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at a local hospital.
Mr. Gamble was a native of Jefferson County and a farm worker for many years. He was a member of the New Fleming Baptist Church and attended Jefferson County School System.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the New Fleming Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Mrs. Sara Harvey Garrett, 76, of Vidalia died Friday, May 2, 2008, at Meadows Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bibb County, moving to Toombs County in 1964. She was a homemaker and was a charter member of Faith Assembly Church of God, in Lyons.
Funeral services were Monday, May 5, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Pugliese, Rev. Jesse Hathaway and Rev. James Scott officiating. Interment followed in the Pinecrest cemetery in Vidalia.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Leroy Garrett; and her parents, Edward Harvey and Mary Cobb Harvey.
Survivors include her six sons, Robert E. (Marilynn) Garrett of Dublin, Doyle (Jane) Garrett of Chester, S.C., Joel T. Mr. Joe W. Hall, 68, of Wrens entered into rest Friday, May 2, 2008, at Trinity Hospital.
Mr. Hall was the husband of Janet Hall, and son of the late Leondus and Sarah Hall. He was self employed in construction.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, 2008, at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom and Carolyn Schneider officiating. Burial followed at Walden U.N.C. Cemetery.
Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his brother, David Hall; and his sister, Ellen Wothrow.
Survivors include his two daughters, Shirley Hall and Holley Sparbel; two sons, Joseph Hall and Lee Hall; two stepsons, Eric Clark and Chris Clark; three brothers, Louis Washington, Charles Hall and Johnny Hall.; and nine grandchildren.

Ms. Patsy Wilson Kelsey, 58, of Meeks, died Saturday, May 3, 2008.
Ms. Kelsey was born in Jefferson County and is predeceased by her father Thomas Lyn Wilson. She was a homemaker and attended Corinth Church in Meeks. Ms. Kelsey was the former co-operator of Bugaloo Salvage Company in Eatonton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Washington County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Danny Thomas officiated.

Mr. Jeremy David Love Sr., 33, of Grovetown died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Columbia County.
Mr. Love was a native of Gwinnett County, but had lived in Grovetown for several years. He was a cook at the Thomson Waffle House.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008, at Mount Tabor Baptist Church, with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Louise Adams McCarthy, 91, of White Oak died Saturday, April 26, 2008.
Mrs. McCarthy was a native of Jefferson County, but lived in White Oak for most of her life. She was retired from the Camden County School System where she taught home economics. She was a member of Woodbine First Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Homewood cemetery in Waverly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. McCarthy.
