Mr. Jesse Wayne McCullar
Mr. Jesse Wayne McCullar, 59, of Stapleton entered into rest on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. McCullar was born in Chattahoochee County to the late Willis and Hattie Farmer McCullar. He joined the Army and retired after 21 years of service as a staff sergeant. After retirement from the Army, he then worked as a truck driver for TCW for eight years. He was of Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at 2 p.m., with Dr. James Ford and Donald Lumpkin officiating. Interment with full military honors followed at the Wrens Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Ollie McCullar; children, Tracy (Rene) Kitchens of Gibson, and Michele (Eric) Carlson of Springfield, Va.; grandchildren, Breana and Amber Kitchens, and Hannah and Eric Carlson Jr.; sister, Linda Ann Gillespie Zrozier; three brothers, Willis Colman McCullar, Edwine and David White; sister-in-law, Gloria (Detroit) Amerson; and brother-in-law, Roger (Alice) Coxwell.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA, 30909.

Mrs. Frances L. “Marion” Irby Palmer
Mrs. Frances L. “Marion” Irby Palmer, 70, of Lincolnton entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Doctors Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, David Palmer.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Frank Allen Williams Jr.
Graveside services for Mr. Frank Allen Williams Jr., 62, of Thomson were held on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Williams Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Mitchell, with Pastor Rev. Golden Lott as eulogist.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Henry Williams
Mr. Henry Williams of Wadley entered into rest on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church, Wadley.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Joe Dennis Cowart Sr.
Mr. Joe Dennis Cowart Sr., 81, of Appling, formerly of Wrens, entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, under the care of Odyssey Hospice at Westwood Nursing Center in Statesboro.

Mr. Cowart was born in Tatnall County, the son of the late Dennis and Mollie Oliver Cowart. He was a lifetime member of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Collins. Mr. Cowart was a master marine mechanic and retied as CEO of Cowart’s Boat Works in Clarks Hill, which he owned and operated with his three sons.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Collins, with Rev. Phillip Napier officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by 17 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia Aiken Cowart of Wrens; three sons, Ronnie (Becky) Cowart of Blythe, Joe D. Cowart Jr. of Wrens, and Ralph (Ramona) Cowart of Augusta; four daughters, Carolyn (Jimmy) Stapleton of Adrian, Betty (Bill) Anderson of Augusta, Mary Ann Cleveland (James Aiken) of Milledgeville, and Patricia (Billy ) Taylor of Baltimore, Md.; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Odyssey Hospice, 5105 Paulsen St., Ste 225D, Savannah, GA, 31405.

Mrs. Perry Price Flournoy
Mrs. Perry Price Flournoy of Wadley entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Flournoy was born in Johnson County, to the parentage of the late Jessie Price and Mary Alice Monroe Price. She is the widow of the late George Flournoy. Mrs. Price was a member of the Live Oak CME Church and was a homemaker.

Private services were held at Davis Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009. Burial was in Live Oak CME Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, George K. (Geneva) Flournoy, Randy (Angie) Flournoy, Chuckie (Cynthia) Flournoy, Pamela Flournoy and Robin Flournoy, all of Wadley, Steven Flournoy, Tony (Alicteen) Flournoy and Stacey Flournoy, all of Louisville, Shannon Flournoy of Bartow; siblings, Jessie Mae Price of Atlanta, Martha Nell Price of Louisville, Gwendolyn Morman of New Ellington, S.C., Jessie Lee (Willie Cile) Price of Philadelphia, Pa., Ruby Nell Flournoy of Bartow, George (Annie Mae) Price of Wadley, Rosie Lee Mobley of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.; brothers-in-law, Willie Lee (Doris) Flournoy of Louisville, and Arthur Flournoy of Wadley; 24 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Sara Broxton Dozier
Mrs. Sara Broxton Dozier, 98, of Blythe entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 5, at her residence.

Mrs. Dozier was a lifelong resident of Burke County. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Burke and Richmond counties for 29 years. She graduated from Burke County Junior College with honors in 1930 and from GSCW, now known as Georgia College and State University. Mrs. Dozier was a member of Wrens Baptist Church; a member and former teacher of the Agnes Martin Sunday School Class; a member and former president of Wrens Keenagers; a member and former chairperson of Keysville cemetery Committee; a life member of Georgia and Richmond County Retired Teachers; and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Rho Chapter, an honorary society for women educators.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Wrens Baptist Church, with Dr. Julian West and Rev. Scott McKinney officiating. Interment was in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Harris Dozier; and her parents, Charlie and Ethel Seeger Broxton.

Survivors include one son, William Harris “Bill” Dozier Sr., Blythe; two daughters, Faye Dozier Gay, Matthews, and Helen Dozier Sparks, Portal; eight grandchildren, Jim Gay and Jeff Gay, both of Matthews, James Sparks, Aiken, S.C., Luanda S. Reese, Knoxville, Tenn., John Sparks, Greenwood, S.C., Laurie Dozier, Duluth, William Harris “Buddy” Dozier Jr., Wilmington, N.C., and Victoria Dozier, McDonough; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Bobbie Chance, Perkins, Joyce Wengler, Georgetown, Ill., and Martha Griffin, Williamson; and brother, Bruce Broxton, Keysville.

Pallbearers were Jim Gay, Jeff Gay, James Sparks, John Sparks, Buddy Dozier, Jeremy Gay, Jacob Gay, Jonathan Gay and Ken Reese.

Honorary pallbearers were Ray Banks, Gene Brown, Kenneth Johnson, Jimmy Poole, Eugene Reece, Oliver Russell and Truman Smith.

Mrs. Hilda O. Gipson
Mrs. Hilda O. Gipson, 81, of Avera entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Gipson was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera and a 30-year retiree from Atwell Pecan Company in Wrens.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Avera, with Rev. Donald Lumpkin, Rev. Chris New and Rev. Stacey Williford officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Gipson was preceded in death by husband, John Henry “Jake” Gipson; her parents, Rannie Mae and Marvin Rogers; and three brothers, Edward Rogers, Jimmy Rogers and Gordon Rogers.

Survivors include her three daughters, Colleen Chalker, Watertown, N.Y., Teresa (Bobby) Williams, Gibson, and Claudia (Larry) Davis, Martinez; one brother, Royce (Mary) Rogers, Summerville, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Barry (LaDonna) Chalker, Angela (John) Sebastian, Wendy (Ryan) Schmidt, Billy (Leonna) Chalker, Steve (Meg) Williams, Brandie (Billy) Pearson, Kristi (Peter) Ankrom, Tina (Patrick) Latte, Carla Hamilton and Julie Tintor; 38 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joseph Beggs, Barry Chalker, Billy Chalker, Josh Chalker, Justin Chalker, Billy Pearson, John Sebastian and Steven Williams.

Mrs. Angela Sheppard Gray
Mrs. Angela Sheppard Gray, 58, entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at Doctors Hospital, Augusta.

Mrs. Gray, a native of Hancock County, was the daughter of the late Buford Lamar and Martha Brown Sheppard. She was a member of Camak Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Camak Baptist Church, with Rev. Bryant Neal officiating. Burial followed in the Culverton Baptist Church Cemetery, Hancock County.

Survivors include her husband, Sam Gray Jr.; one daughter, Samantha Gray, Warrenton; two sons, Billy (Michelle) Gray, Warrenton, and Jeffery (Kim) Gray, Waynesboro; four sisters, Brenda Anglin, Thomaston, Sharon Sheppard, Gibson, Rosemary Washington, Warrenton, and Regina Washington, Thomson; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Pete Montgomery, Charlie Washington, Jerry Guy, Jerry Anglin, Franklin Sivell, Joey Perdue and Billy Brown.

Funeral services for Mr. Thomas “Tommy” Allen Greene Sr., 59, of Wrens were held on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at Spread Chapel AME Church, Stapleton, with Pastor Rev. Timothy Lewis and Rev. C.W. Stone officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his son, Thomas A. “T.J.” Greene Jr., Wrens; and granddaughter, Shitaylor Bell, Wrens.

Mrs. Joyce W. Hadden
Mrs. Joyce W. Hadden, 75, of Avera entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Hadden was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a 35-year retiree of Southern Bell.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera, with Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel “Tee” Hadden.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn (Tommy) Farmer, Augusta, Cheryl (Clint) Hardy, Evans, Tracie (Ron) Bryant, Aiken, S.C., and Tommy (Candice) Hadden, Avera; two brothers, Jack Wilk, Mississippi, and Gene Wilk, Augusta; sister, Erlene Hanley; nine grandchildren, Trey Skeens, Augusta, Christy Ross, Columbia, S.C., John Story, Augusta, Greg Story, Evans, Clint Hardy II, Evans, Julianne Bryant, Aiken, S.C., Cory Bryant, Aiken, S.C., Tyler Hadden, Avera, and Sydney Hadden, Avera; four great-grandchildren, Savannah Rackliffe, Noah Ross, Madison Ross and Gracie Skeens; nephew, Melvin (Debra) Hadden, Bartow; many other nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Pallbearers were Dan Faust, Bob Hadden, Brady Hadden, Dwain Hadden, Jimmy Hadden, Sam Hadden, John Padgett and Geoffrey Wilk.

Mr. Relester Hunter of Wadley entered into rest on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in Wadley.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Brinson Hill Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Chris Lewis, Wadley; seven sisters, Mae Lois Hunter, Pearline H. (Albert) Lewis, Inell Hunter, Pressie Mae (Leroy) Green and Gracie Mae Hunter, all of Wadley, Susan Lewis, Swainsboro, and Terrie (Maurice) Lawrence, Aiken, S.C.; eight brothers, Robert (Karin) Hunter and Wallace Hunter, all St. Petersburg, Fla., Charles Hunter, Wadley, Frank Wright, Charlie (Betty) Wright, Tommy Wright and John (Shontae’) Wright, all of Swainsboro, and Gene (Minia) Wright, Wadley; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. David Jackson James
Mr. David Jackson James, 79, of Thomson entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009.

Mr. James was born in Jefferson County, the son of the late Silas J. James and Beatrice Arrington James. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. James lived in McDuffie County most of his life and worked for Georgia Power for 18 years, was former owner and operator of James Appliance and retired as the owner and operator of Jesse James Sand Pit. He was also a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church and a member of the A.J. Miller Masonic Lodge #204 in Thomson.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Westview Cemetery, with Rev. Richard Dendler officiating.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Glenn James; brother, Pilcher L. James; and sister, Velma Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Florence James; daughters, Jackie Johnson (Blaine) and Terri King; sons, Keith Wall (Denise) and Mell Wall (Barbara), all of Thomson; sisters, Raydell Kirchner, Keysville, and Bobbie Dixon, Wrens; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Nicholas Hubert, Dylan Johnson, Mel Wall Jr., Dennis Wheeler, Tracy Dixon and Wendell Gresham.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
