Mrs. Dannie Lee Hall
Mrs. Dannie Lee Hall of Wadley entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, in Wadley.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Neeler AME Church in Davisboro, with Rev. Matthew Davis officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Willie (Diane) Hall, Wadley; stepson, Melvin Hall, Sandersville; brother, Leroy (Hattie) Lattimore, Louisville; three grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Alva Lewis Haywood
Mr. Alva Lewis Haywood, 87, of Warrenton entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Oconee Regional Hospital in Milledgeville.
At the time of his death, Mr. Haywood was a resident of the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville. A World War II veteran, Mr. Haywood served in the 1090th Signal Battalion of the U.S. Army Air Corps for three years in the Pacific Theatre. He is the former editor, publisher and owner of The Warrenton Clipper, The Gibson-Record and Guide, The Richmond County Times, The Sparta Ishmaelite and The Fort Gordon Rambler. He operated a printing plant in Warrenton serving area newspapers for over 43 years. Mr. Haywood was a former member of the Warrenton City Council, mayor and member of the Warren County Board of Commissioners. Mr. Haywood is a past president of the Georgia Press Association where he also served as secretary and on the Board of Managers; and he is a past president of the Georgia Newspaper Service. Mr. Haywood is the first Georgian to be awarded the AMOS Award by the National Newspaper Association for his many years of service to the newspaper and journalism profession.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, at Warrenton First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., with Rev. Susanna Davis and Rev. Jim Hanna officiating. Burial was in Millcreek Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Ann Norris Haywood; and one son, Thomas Lewis Haywood.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Allen Haywood (Susan) of Sparta, and Karl Norris Haywood (Jo-Ann) of Warrenton; two grandchildren, Natalie Lauren Haywood Scoggins (Preston) of Augusta, and Jordan Karl Haywood of Charlotte, N.C.; and three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Gaines and John Scoggins of Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the USO or to any veteran’s organization devoted to assisting veterans, active and retired, and their families.

Mrs. Rosetta Fleming Lockhart
Mrs. Rosetta Fleming Lockhart, 84, of Winston Salem, N.C., entered into rest on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at Springwood Care Center in Winston Salem, N.C.
Mrs. Lockhart was born one of eight children in Jefferson County, to the parentage of the late Eddie and Sarah Curtis Fleming. She was the widow of the late Robert Lockhart. Mrs. Lockhart attended the Jefferson County School System and was a member of the Jones Grove Baptist Church, before relocating to Newark, N.J. in 1945 where she worked until her retirement in June of 2000. She was a member of the Willing Workers Ministry of helps, a division of New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery, Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and one grandchild, Victor Washington.
Survivors include her daughters, Louise Lockhart Washington of Winston Salem, N.C., and Elizabeth Lockhart Brown of Philadelphia, Pa.; two grandchildren, Doreen White and Sharonda Washington; two sisters, Betty Loyd of Louisville, and Carrie Taylor of Augusta; grandson-in-law, Joseph White; six great-grandchildren, Tamar, Kenneth, Ebonee, Jasmine, S’amiya and Destiny; friend, Yvonne Bridgeforth of Winston Salem, N.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Virginia Lee Meade Marshall
Mrs. Virginia Lee Meade Marshall, 87, of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at her residence.
A native of Dante, Va., Mrs. Marshall was a daughter of the late Henry and Rosa Mae Fields Meade. She taught school at Thomas Jefferson Academy for more than 30 years and was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Louisville First Baptist Church, with Larry Montgomery officiating. Entombment services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009, in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va.
Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Samuel Alderson Marshall.
Survivors include her son, Robert L. “Bob” Marshall (Patty) of Louisville; grandson, Robert Scott Marshall in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan; step-granddaughters, Melissa Stawicki and Amanda Mullins; step-great-granddaughter, Emilea Stawicki; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Dorothy “Dollie” Goforth Melvin
Mrs. Dorothy “Dollie” Goforth Melvin entered into rest on Oct. 28, 2009, at home in Greensboro, N.C.
Mrs. Melvin was born on May 28, 1925, she was the daughter of Robey Clemons Goforth and Elsie Virginia Mitchell Goforth. She received her undergraduate degree from Greensboro College and her masters from East Carolina University. She was a teacher and a principal in the North Carolina School System. After learning there was a town in Georgia named for her grandfather, she visited Mitchell during the 2009 Springfest.
Funeral services were held at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold E. Melvin; and two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include three cousins; and nephews, nieces and friends.
Mrs. Juanita Parrish
Mrs. Juanita Parrish, 83, of Cumming entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009.
Mrs. Parrish was the daughter of the late Joseph E. “Mac” McGraw and Birdie McGraw. She was born Jan. 1, 1926, in Avera, and lived a large part of her life in Thomson. She was married
to Albert McGahee Jr. until his death in 1957. She moved to Augusta in 1964 and married
Norman Armstrong Parrish in 1966. Mrs. Parrish was a hair dresser and member of Grace Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda McGahee Boyd of Cumming; granddaughter, Lisa Boyd Zinsmeister of Asheville, N.C.; grandson, Shaun Boyd of Braselton; great-grandson, Owen Michael Zinsmeister of Asheville, N.C.; and great-granddaughter, Parker Belle Zinsmeister of Asheville, N.C.

Mrs. Carrie H. Purvis, 81, of Stapleton entered into rest on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, in the University Hospital.
Mrs. Purvis was a native of Warren County. She had retired from the Thomson Company as a seamstress and inspector after 40 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mike Sutphin and Rev. Bill Seaman officiating. Burial wasin the Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph Purvis.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen Peebles, Tupelo, Miss.; son, Gibson Purvis, Stapleton; two brothers, Harold Hobbs, Jacksonville, Fla., and C.W. Hobbs, Thomson; and four grandchildren, Rebecca Peebles, San Antonio, Texas, Matthew Peebles, Tupelo, Miss., Brandi Purvis, Thomson, and Candace Purvis, Stapleton.
Pallbearers were Bobby Mauck, Sam Kitchens Jr., Jimmy Richardson, Darrell Blair, Mike Peebles and Tommy Peebles.

Mrs. Omie Matthews Johnson Rabun
Mrs. Omie Matthews Johnson Rabun, 102, of Martinez entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at The Place at Martinez Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Rabun was born Jan. 4, 1907, in Jefferson County, to the late Charlie Lonz Matthews and Mattie Beasley Matthews. She was the wife of the late Tom Truitt Johnson and the late Samuel B. Rabun. She was a member of Stapleton Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at Stapleton Baptist Church, Stapleton, on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at 2 p.m., with Dr. Randy Dunaway officiating. Interment followed at Norwood City Cemetery, Norwood.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; brother, Lewis Matthews; two daughters, Edna Butterworth Mauldin and Bernice Williams Maddox; and five grandchildren, Michael Williams, Lisa Williams Grunenfelder, Grant Williams, April Boddiford and Robert Reed Butterworth III.
Survivors include two daughters, Pansy J. Boddiford, Augusta, and Lois J. Johnson, Evans; one granddaughter, Rebecca Johnson, Augusta; and two great-grandchildren, Robert Reed Butterworth IV, Harlem, and Kelly Griffiths, Richland, Wash.

Mr. Hudson Taylor Gingery
Mr. Hudson Taylor Gingery, 66, of Wadley entered into rest on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at his residence. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Gingery, formerly of Ironwood, Mich., was born in Gogebic County, Mich., and had lived in Wadley for the past 17 years. He served in the U.S. Army for over 16 years and was a retired owner of the Number One Muffler in Thomson. He was a musician, mechanic, contractor and a member of the American Legion, and the DAV.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Allan Gingery.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Gingery of Wadley; sons, Randy Gingery (Alice) of Thomson, Dale Gingery (Vicky) of Wrens, Bryan Tapley (Barbara) of Wadley, and Bobby Petty of Wadley; daughter, Nicole Aspin Wall of Hurley, Wis.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Elizabeth McNeely Kitchens, 88, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at University Hospital.
Mrs. Kitchens was born in Jefferson County and resided in Augusta. She was a homemaker and a member of Crestview Baptist Church.
A memorial services was held on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the residence, with Rev. Paul Cook and Rev. Oscar Barrow officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Benjamin Kitchens.

Mr. William “True Blue” Landry
Mr. William “True Blue” Landry, 54, of Louisville entered into rest on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.
Mr. Landry was a native Calcasieu County, La., born to the parentage of the late Wilbur Landry and Mary Lue Gilmore Landry. His Christian experience began at the Walden Grove CME Church. He graduated from Martin Luther King High in Boston, Mass. Mr. Landry received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Reserve. He was a truck driver.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Faith Memorial CME Church and Walden Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Milton Perling
Mr. Milton Perling, 87, of Atlanta, formerly of Louisville, entered into rest on Friday, Dec. 25, 2009.
Mr. Perling was born in Tennille and raised in Sandersville. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and owned and operated Perling’s Department Store in Louisville for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was a golfer at the Ogeechee Valley Country Club.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, with Rabbi Lou Feldstein officiating.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bootsie Perling; brother, Jake; and sister, Sara.
Survivors include his sons, Michael (Dori) Perling and Lance (Rachel) Perling; brother, David S. (Peggy) Perling; and grandchildren, Mell, Deborah, Emily and Anna, all of Atlanta.
