Mrs. Sallie Davis Dicks
Mrs. Sallie Davis Dicks of Aiken entered into rest on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009.
She was a daughter of the late Norris and Annie Terrell Davis. She was married
to the late Rev. Ernest Dicks Sr. She attended Jefferson Training School, in Louisville, and Boggs Academy, Keysville, to complete her basic education. In 1947, she received her bachelor of arts degree from Livingstone College, Salisbury, N.C. Her post graduate work included further studies at Fort Valley State, Benedict College, South Carolina State University, Paine College and the University of South Carolina. She was an educator in both elementary and high schools. In addition, she served as a nutritionist for several years at Goodland Elementary School, Springfield, S.C. She taught in Keysville, Milledgeville, Rosier, Springfield, S.C., Norway, S.C., and Johnston, S.C. Mrs. Sallie Dicks was a former county president of the S.C. Family Community Leaders Club, a former board member and President of the Schofield Chapter of S.C. Family Community Leaders Club. For many years she was a member of the Zion Hill Gospel Choir, Talatha,
S.C. Mrs. Dicks was a current member of the S.C. Retired Teacher’s Association, Smith-Hazel Senior Citizens Club and the Schofield Chapter of the S.C. Family Community Leaders Club.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Mt. Zion AMEZ Church, Augusta. Interment followed in Aiken Memorial Gardens, Aiken.
Survivors include one daughter, Norma Jean V. Govan of Columbia, S.C.; three sons, Ernest (Carol) Dicks, Detroit, Mich., Samuel Norris (Brenda) Dicks, Aiken, S.C., and Elvis Raynard Dicks, Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Robbie Doll Johnson, Brooklyn, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. George Larry Frazier Sr.
Mr. George Larry Frazier Sr. of Wadley entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at an Augusta hospital.
Services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel, Louisville, and Brinson Hill Cemetery, Wadley.
Mr. Frazier was a native of Kings County, N.Y. before moving to Jefferson County. He was a mechanic and a member of the Brinson Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Johnnie M. Frazier of Wadley; his sons, James Cunningham, Travis Boatwright, Demetrius Boatwright, all of Wadley, Johnathan Moore, Georgia Frazier Jr., both of Augusta, and Joseph Bing of New York; one daughter, Torie Thompson of Virginia; his mother, Rosie L. Frazier of Wadley; father, Charlie Edward Telfair; two sisters, Tanya F. Cephus of Statesboro, and Fonya F. (Roy) Ramsey of Wadley; brothers, Rufus L. (Mary) Frazier of Augusta, and Willie C. (Neicy) Frazier of Baltimore, Md.; brother-in-law, Jerome (Oletha) Boatwright of Atlanta; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Doris Jones Jackson
Mrs. Doris Jones Jackson, 91, of Louisville, formerly of Moultrie, entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009 at the Home Place in Louisville.
Mrs. Jackson was born on Nov. 9, 1911 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jones and Belle Stone Jones. She taught school in Colquitt County for 33 years, mostly at Funston Elementary School. She was a member of Funston Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Funston Baptist Church, with Rev. Ron Shiver officiating. Interment followed in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Murray Jackson; and 10 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her two sons, George Murray Jackson Jr. (Doris) of Louisville, and Stanley E. Jackson (Magda) of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, Derwin Jones (Lucille) of Moultrie, and Johnny Jones of Albany; four grandchildren, Laura Jackson, Melanie Roberts, Donna Davis and Gloria Toth; three great-grandchildren, Cassidy Davis, Jace Poole and Sky Poole.

Mrs. Lucy Amanda Blount James, 84, of Sandersville entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at the Gibson Health and Rehab Center in Gibson.
Mrs. James was born in Washington County, the daughter of the late Hamp Blount and the late Martha Tanner Blount. She was a homemaker and a member of the Tennille Christian Church.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Zeta cemetery in Tennille. Rev. Wade Dawson and Rev. Larry Glover officiated.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert B. James.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry A. James of Harrison, Jessie James of Tennille, and William B. James of Meeks; her daughter, Janet J. Jackson of Riddleville; grandchildren, Judy J. Woodard, Kenneth Jackson, William James, Dennis Meeks and Daniel Meeks; great-grandchildren, Matthew Woodard and Amanda Woodard; and her brother Tom Blount.

Mrs. Ruth Boulineau Johnson, 83, of Wrens entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Ways Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Chance officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Johnson Sr.; and her parents, Clayborn and Fannie Johnson Boulineau.
Survivors include her son, Charles W. Johnson Jr.; and a sister, Sarah B. Newman.

Mr. Homer “Knotty” McGraw
Mr. Homer “Knotty” McGraw, 83, of Gibson entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. McGraw was a native of Jefferson County. He was a contractor and a Navy veteran.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at the Sheppard Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Jacky Downs officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest cemetery in Augusta, with Rev. David Jones officiating the committal service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Charlie and Mrs. Monnell Hobbs McGraw.
Survivors include a son, Larry (Yvonne) McGraw of Avera; three daughters, Debrah (Pete) Chalker of Gibson, Tammy (Joe) Cash of Gibson, and Robin McGraw of Gibson; two sisters, Ruth Goodbread of Augusta and Margie Brown of Michigan; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sara Johnson McNeely, 81, of Gibson entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at McDuffie Regional Hospital, Thomson.
She was a native of Washington County and worked at the Louisville Shirt Factory as a presser.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Jacky Downs officiating.
Survivors include two sisters, Jessie Chalker of Thomson, and Virginia Moore of Avera; one brother, James Jordan of Wadley; and friend, James Wilkerson of Gibson.

She was born on March 13, 1953, in Johnson County, to the parentage of the late Mr. Willie Arthur Miller and the late Mrs. Idela Pierce Miller.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Samuel Grove Baptist Church, Tennille, with Reverend Eric T. Adams officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her three children, Tara Miller, Louisville, Keith (Lashundra) Miller, Wrens, Shelton (Keyshia) Miller, Swainsboro; six sisters, Lena (T.J.) Funeral services were held at Trinity CME Church in Wadley at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, with Rev. Verlon White officiating. Burial was in the Live Oak Cemetery.
Survivors include her three daughters, Dorothy Hilson, Sandersville, Vatie (Charles) Latimore, Wadley, and Carolyn (Gregory) Knight, Hephzibah; one brother, Mr. Eddie Hill Jr., Louisville; four granddaughters, Charlye (James) Dixon, Bernice Easterling and Tammie Hilson, all of Sandersville, and Zoey Knight, Hephzibah; four grandsons, Dante’ Latimore and Charles Latimore Jr., both of Wadley, and Corey Knight and Marcus Knight, both of Hephzibah; two great-granddaughters, five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Edward Herman Phillips
Mr. Edward Herman Phillips, 81, of Dearing entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009.
Mr. Phillips was born in Wrightsville and was the son of the late Frank Phillips and the late Mary Pilgrim Phillips. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II and was retired as a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah T. Phillips, Dearing; daughters, Sue Padgett (Charles), Avera, Linda Murphy (Billy), Brownwood, Texas, and Brenda Ash (Wayne), Martinez; son, Eddie Phillips, Martinez; brothers, J. W. Phillips, Loganville, and Frank Phillips Jr., Covington; sister, Inez Josey, Macon; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Sylvia Pate, Dearing; nephew, Wyman Phillips, Grovetown.

Mr. Charlie Ponder Sr. of Wadley entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2008, at an Augusta Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the San Claire Baptist Church and cemetery.
Mr. Ponder was a native of Jefferson County and a member of the San Claire Baptist Church. He was retired from the city of Louisville after more than 24 years of service.
Survivors include his children, Brenda (Willie) Jackson and Charlie (Julia) Ponder Jr., both of Wadley, and Leroy (Elaine Boyd) Ponder of Louisville; brother, Deacon Murphy Ponder of Wadley; sister, Betty Jean Dorsey of Philadelphia, Pa.; six grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Lisa Mae Prickett, 84, of Matthews entered into rest Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Prickett was a member Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church and she was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held on Saturday Jan. 24, 2009, at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Chris Henry officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Juddie W. Prickett.
Survivors include her children, Helen Gay, Matthews, Rose Mary (Larry) Burke, Wrens, and Rufus (Barbara) Prickett, Louisville; two sisters, Elizabeth Huff, Stapleton, and Lois Howland, Augusta; three brothers, Alton Stewart, James Stewart and Grady Stewart, all of Augusta; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Earl H. Tankersley
Mr. Earl H. Tankersley, 82, of Thomson entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, in University Hospital.
Mr. Tankersley was born in Columbia County, to the late Ernest and Sara Tankersley, and was the last surviving child of six children. He resided in Thomson most of his life. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and was an Army veteran of WWII. He was employed with Thomson Oak Flooring as a logger until his retirement at the age of 75.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Peebles Tankersley, Thomson; his two daughters, Vicky T. (Jerry) Randolph, Thomson, and Angela T. (Terry) Englett, Wrens; his two sons, Jerry L. (Mary) Tankersley and David E. Tankersley, both of Thomson; five grandchildren, Amy R. (Derek) Clark, Casey R. (Mel) Story, Jordan Tankersley, Jameson Tankersley, Jenna Tankersley and Jeanie (Gary) Bohler; two step-grandchildren, Evan Englett and Emily Englett; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mel Story, Derek Clark, Ronald Russell, Curtis Newman, Wayne Jones and Glenn Edwards.
