Mrs. Mary Jeanne Stephens
Mrs. Mary Jeanne Stephens, 81, of Wrens entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at University Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late George W. and Ida DeLay Robinson of Louisville. She is preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn R. Nolan. She was the wife of C.W. “Speakie” Stephens. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 25, 2008. Mrs. Stephens served as secretary of the Wrens United Methodist Church for 18 years. She was a charter member of both Augusta Genealogical Society and Jefferson County Historical Society. She wrote a column, Jeanne’s Gems, for a number of years. In 1979, the couple began the Ancestoring column which still continues in the Jefferson County newspaper. She was a part of several publications on genealogy, and part of the many accolades received by the paper through the years.
Funeral services were held at Wrens United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at 2 p.m., with her grandson, Rev. Evan English, conducting the service assisted by Rev. Griffin Thompson. Interment followed in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, C.W. “Speakie” Stephens of Wrens; three daughters, Elizabeth Allison, Graniteville, S.C., Jeannie (Billy) English, Martinez, and Cyndi (Robby) Culpepper, Mitchell; six grandchildren, Charlie Allison, Evan (Kim) English, Jonathan (Caroline) English, Austin English, Blythe Culpepper and Brooke Culpepper; one great-grandchild, Travis Relkin; one brother, Marion C. (Anniece) Robinson, Lilburn; and one sister-in-law, Norma S. Godowns, Orangeburg, S.C.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.

Funeral service for Mrs. Tyleasha D. Roberts Turner, 32, of Norwood were held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at 2 p.m., at the Thankful Baptist Church, Glascock County, with the Rev. Leroy Hudson, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Mr. Ozark Wells
Mr. Ozark Wells, 56, of Louisville entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Wells was a native of Jefferson County, the son of Mary Frances Wells Thompson and the late Tommie Thompson, a member of the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church, a 1970 graduate of Jefferson County High and a truck driver.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and cemetery.

Mrs. Nina Mae Whigham
Mrs. Nina Mae Whigham, 83, entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Heritage Health Care.
Mrs. Whigham was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She was a devoted member of Gordon Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully as treasurer of the Usher Board for several years. She was the wife of the late Leon Whigham Sr.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Gordon Grove Baptist Church in Louisville, with Rev. Allen Webb officiating and Rev. Walter Holmes assisting. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Leon Whigham Jr. of Louisville; siblings, Minnie W. Way of Wrens, Willie (Mary) Oliphant Sr. of Long Island, N.Y., Judson Way and Willie Albert (Mary Ann) Way, both of Louisville, Ruthie Jordan and James (Gloria) Way of Augusta, and Robert Way of Maryland; two granddaughters; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of Gordon Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Harold Jerome Bauguss Sr.
Mr. Harold Jerome Bauguss Sr., 81, of Wadley entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009.
Mr. Bauguss was a native of Wilkes County, N.C. and had resided in Wadley for 66 years. He was a World War II veteran in the 13th Army Air Corp. He was a road superintendent of Jefferson County.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Wadley City Cemetery, with Rev. Ray and Mrs. Sarah Garren and Rev. Pat Holbert officiating.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Delores Bauguss; sons, Robert Bauguss (Dana) of Buford, Harold Bauguss Jr. (Lea) of Lilburn, and Ronald Bauguss (Debbie) of Snellville; a sister, Ruth Mobley (Otis) of Augusta; grandchildren, Haley and Max Bauguss of Lilburn; and step-grandchildren, Jessica Distler, Jaclyn Bennett and Melissa Dean.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Brown, Charlie Hall, Charles Pollett III, Steve Cannon, Doug Flanders and Jim Mobley.

Rev. Danny Marvin Brett
Rev. Danny Marvin Brett, 65, of Wadley entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at University Hospital, Augusta.
A native of Jefferson County, Rev. Brett was a son of the late George Marvin and Lou Ella Edenfield Brett. He retired as associate minister of Pastoral Care of First Baptist Church Atlanta after 27 years of service. Prior to service at First Baptist Atlanta he served as Pastor of First Baptist Church in Culpeper, Va., First Baptist Church of Baxley and Weatherford Baptist Church in Richmond, Va. and served in the Navy Reserve for several years.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at the Louisville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry Montgomery, Rev. Paul Douglas and Mr. O.W. Carter officiating. Burial followed in the family lot of Wadley City Cemetery.
Rev. Brett was preceded in death by his parents, George Marvin and Lou Ella Edenfield Brett; and a brother, William Ephriam Brett.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary Jane Plunkett Brett; three daughters, Saundra Jenyce Cranfill (Jeff) of Marietta, Christine Kimberly Douglas (Paul) of Ft. Belvoir, Va., and Shannon Elizabeth Wilson (Marcus) of Greenville, S.C.; two sisters, Mary Lois Gaston (Roy) of Wadley, and Rose Lorraine Grawbowskii (Philip) of North Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lollie Pittman Dye, 95, of Louisville and Augusta entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at the home of her son, Kenny.
She was born Dec. 27, 1913, to James Franklin Pittman and Mattie Lou Walden Pittman. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating at the graveside service to be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Avera.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lamar Dye; and grandson, George T. Dye (Bo) Jr.
Survivors include her brother James Howard Pittman (Jean) Tupelo, Miss.; sister, Lorene Pittman Salter (Revis) Rome; four children, George Thomas Dye (Rosie), Louisville, Sheryl Dye Bargainnier, Birmingham, Ala., Carol Dye Irwin (William), Evans, and William Kenneth Dye (Debbie) Augusta; 10 grandchildren, Debbie Dye Gandy (Austin), William “Bill” Dye (Tracy), Steven Bargainnier (Molly), Michelle Dye Decker (Lee), Amanda Bargainnier Tucker (David), Allison Bargainnier, Katie Irwin Ashley (Chuck), Kenny Dye Jr. (Kristen), Melissa Dye Hammac (James) and Bryan Dye; 20 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Helen Farmer
Mrs. Helen Farmer of Lithonia entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009.
Mrs. Farmer was born June 7, 1936, to the late James and Annie Mae Gordon in Louisville. She graduated from Morris Brown College and became an educator to children with special needs working in Walton, Douglasville, Fulton and DeKalb counties school systems, spanning over 30 years. She was a mother of four and foster parent to more than 10 children.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at The Hillcrest Church of Christ, Decatur, at 1 p.m., with Minister Richard L. Barclay officiating and Minister Wesley L. Brown, eulogist.

Mr. George James Fulghum
Mr. George James Fulghum, 85, of Midville entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, in Macon after an extended illness.
Mr. Fulghum was born Oct. 18, 1923 in Emanuel County. He was the son of the late Carlos and Georgia Fulghum. He was married
to the late Vivian Arlene Fulghum for 58 years and was a lifetime resident of Midville. He was a member of the Midville Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon for many years. He was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Society.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Midville Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott McKinney and Rev. Leonard Quick officiating. Interment was in the Midville City cemetery with Masonic Honors.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy (Mike) Thomas of Macon, and Vicky (Dewey) Belcher of Gibson; sister, Caroline Fulghum Oglesby of Swainsboro; five grandchildren, Jody Wilson of Summertown, Libby, Barry and Gary Belcher of Gibson, and Farris Thomas of Macon; three great-grandchildren, Evan, Caleb and Luke Wilson.

Mrs. Lillie Mae Hammond, 97, of West Palm Beach, Fla. entered into rest on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009.
She was born in Burke County on Jan. 2, 1912. She was a member of Haverhill Baptist Church, West Palm Beach, Fla.
Graveside services were held at Bark Camp Baptist Church Cemetery, Midville, on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at 2 p.m., with W.T. Hammond Jr. officiating, Jennifer Hammond Wilson singing.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James T. Hammond, Sr.; her parents, Willie P. and Addie (Powell) Netherland; an infant sister, Emily Sarah Netherland; sister, Elizabeth Louise (Netherland) Doan; a brother-in-law, Merle A. Doan Sr.; and an infant son, Albert Thomas Hammond.
Survivors include five children, William Thomas Hammond Sr. (Maxine) of Augusta, James Edward Hammond (Sarah) of Ponce de Leon, Fla., Beverly Ann Hammond Powell (John) of West Palm Beach, Fla.; James Thomas Hammond Jr. (Barbara) of Midville, and Robert Leonard Hammond of West Palm Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a nephew, Merle A. Mrs. Mary Herndon, 73, of Bartow entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Herndon, born in Oglethorpe County had lived in Bartow for 38 years. She was a nurses aid in a nursing home, and a member of Josey Baptist Church.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, with Rev. Randy Walden officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Herndon of Bartow; her mother, Annie Laura Caldwell of Lexington; and three brother, Vergil Caldwell of Lexington, Bobby Caldwell of Tigwell, and Johnny Caldwell of Carlton.

Mrs. Edna Louise Attaway Kilgore
Mrs. Edna Louise Attaway Kilgore, 85, of Stapleton entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at University Hospital.
A native of Jefferson County, Mrs. Kilgore was a member of Ebenezer Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and Stapleton United Methodist Church where she was church pianist for many years. Mrs. Kilgore worked at the Bank of Stapleton for over 40 years.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Stapleton United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kilgore is preceded in death by her parents, Roger Sloan Attaway and Amy Lou Hadden Attaway; and one sister, Sarah Elizabeth Attaway Kidd.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John Clifford Kilgore Jr.; two daughters, Lydia Ann Breedlove and Mary (W. Tennent) Houston, both of Augusta; two brothers, Roger S. Attaway Jr. and John J. Attaway; eight grandchildren, John Kilgore Breedlove, James William Breedlove, Charles Jackson Breedlove, William Tennent Houston Jr., Alice Sanders Houston, Margaret Byne Houston, Charles Gordon Houston II and Elizabeth Tennent Houston.
