Col. Carl “Ed” Carwile, 52, of Warner Robins entered into rest on Friday, March 13, 2009.
Colonel Carwile was born on July 28, 1956, in Del Rio, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 34 years. His primary assignments were 94th CS Commander, Dobbins AFB; Deputy, Commission Director, 22nd AF, Dobbins AFB; Chief, Force Readiness Branch, HQ Air Force Reserve Command, Robins AFB. He was recognized as the 2006 Command Communications and Information Civilian of the Year and the HQ Air Force Reserve Command Civilian of the Quarter Supervisor Category.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, with Colonel Thomas Fey, Chaplain, USAF, officiating. Interment was in the Louisville City cemetery on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 2 p.m.
He was predeceased by his father, Jerry D. Carwile Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Henderson Carwile, Warner Robins; daughter, Leah A. Carwile, Atlanta; mother, Bettie Crews Carwile, Madison Heights, Va.; brothers, Jerry Donald Carwile Jr. (Carol), San Antonio, Texas, and Michael W. Carwile (Kim), Shipman, Va.; father-in-law, Clarence Henderson Jr. (Betty Jean), Louisville; mother-in-law, Joan Fortner Fulghum (Tommy), Augusta; a number of nieces and nephews and other family.

Peggy J. Dotson, 59, of Waynesboro entered into rest Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Brentwood Terrace Health Center.
She was born on Oct. 7, 1949, in Wrens to the late Clarence Franklin Perdue Sr. and Willie Mae Huff Perdue. For many years she worked at Ogeechee Behavioral Health Services as a social service technician. She was a member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church and attended Hebron Baptist Church.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Hebron Baptist Church, Waynesboro, with Rev. Earl Saxon officiating. Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger E. Dotson.
Survivors include two daughters, Andrea Quick (Jason) of Waynesboro, and Debbie Herndon of Nixa, Mo.; three sisters, Wanda Walden (Bennie Sr.) of Gibson, Patricia Herndon (Larry) of Wrens, and Judy Thigpen of Coshocton, Ohio; one brother, Clarence Perdue Jr. (Linda) of Canal Fulton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Dillon Quick, Cameron Quick, Walker Quick, Shaun Jordan, Bethanie Herndon, Shelby Herndon and Thomas Herndon; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were James Cranford, Tommy Herndon, Shaun Jordan, Chuck Land, Wallace Quick and Lee Bacino.

Mrs. Georgia Effie Deriso Gaston
Mrs. Georgia Effie Deriso Gaston, 97, of Wadley entered into rest on Monday, March 16, 2009, at Glendale Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Moxley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ruth Lovejoy and Dr. Larry Sauls officiating. Interment will follow in the Moxley Cemetery.
Mrs. Gaston, born in Jefferson County, was a retired seamstress and a member of the Moxley United Methodist Church where she has been a member since she was 13-years-old.
Survivors include three sons, Bobby Sonny Gaston (Julia) of Wadley, Wailliam Roy Gaston (Mary Lois) of Wadley and Jack E. Gaston of Wadley; eight grandchildren, Wayne Gaston, Harold Gaston, Selena Grace, Greg Gaston, Deborah Pate, Jean March, Karen Sheppard and Ann Baker; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Gaston, Harold Gaston, Sam Gaston, Greg Gaston, Clay Grace, Johnny Deriso, Tommy Sheppard and Tony Hattaway.

Mrs. Betty J. Hayes, 76, of Blythe entered into rest on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Hayes was native of Burke County. She was retired from U.S. Postmaster. She was the wife of 53 years to Harvey Hayes and the daughter of the late Fred Greiner and Olive Gunn Greiner.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jerry Cole officiating. Interment followed in Blythe United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Randy Hayes; sister, Annie Hayes; and a brother, Frank Greiner.

Mr. McDaniel was born in Bartow, and was a member of Vaucluse First Baptist Church. He was sales manager at Augusta Concrete Block Company.

Mrs. Ruth Howard
Mrs. Ruth Russell Howard, 90, of Wrens entered into rest Sunday, March 22, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Howard was a homemaker and was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and the Lucy Howard Sunday School Class. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Q.V. Russell and Elvie Holley Russell.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 10 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bill Deakins. Interment was at the family mausoleum, Keysville.
Mrs. Howard is preceded in death by her daughter, Aquila Lynne Howard.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Leonard Howard Jr.; her daughter, Donna (James) Cunningham, Wrens; her son, Lex (Molly) Howard, Wrens; five grandchildren (pallbearers and Rachel Cunningham Davis); 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Luvern “Von” Thompson Johnson
Mrs. Luvern “Von” Thompson Johnson of Wrens entered into rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.
Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of James Thompson and the late Doris Brown Thompson. She joined New Hope AME Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. M. J. Handberry. She was a graduate of Glascock County High and Augusta Technical College. She has been a member of the Morning Star Society for many years. For 20 years she was employed at Jefferson County Department of Family and Children Services as an economic support screener.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 1 p.m. at New Hope AME Church, Grange.
Survivors include her husband, Gregory B. Mrs. Inez Lemke Reid
Mrs. Inez Lemke Reid of Thomson entered into rest on March 20, 2009, after a battle with cancer.
Mrs. Reid was born in Glascock County, but resided most of her life in Thomson. She was employed with the McDuffie County Hospital for 37 years, serving as Hospital Administrator for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Thomson, with Dr. James M. Ramsey officiating. Burial followed at Westview Cemetery.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, D. B. (Doc) Lemke; her parents, William and Celia Reese; and sister, Lee Ward.
Survivors include her husband, Roger L. Reid; children, Peggy L. Stokes (Dan Van Ackeren) of Spring Hill, Fla., Dr. Jimmy Lemke (Gayle) of Augusta, and Lynn L. Griffin of Boca Raton, Fla.; three grandchildren, Cris M. Griffin (Leslie) of Calhoun, Scarlett Giles (Peter) of Woodstock, and Ashley Lemke of Augusta; three great-grandchildren, Colin and Kendall Giles and Stevie Griffin; a stepson, Fernley D. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Louisville on Friday, March 20, 2008, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Mrs. Steed was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Milton Steed.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynda (Steve) Lewis and Barbara (Bobby) Reid, all of Statesboro; five granddaughters, Marianne (Anthony) LeFebvre of Brooklet, Susan (Buddy) Pullam of Statesboro, Lisa (Joe) Onovc of Richmond Hill, Amy Tapley of Statesboro and Julie (Richie) Brown of Statesboro; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
