Col. Carl “Ed” Carwile, 52, of Warner Robins entered into rest on Friday, March 13, 2009.

Colonel Carwile was born on July 28, 1956, in Del Rio, Texas. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 34 years. His primary assignments were 94th CS Commander, Dobbins AFB; Deputy, Commission Director, 22nd AF, Dobbins AFB; Chief, Force Readiness Branch, HQ Air Force Reserve Command, Robins AFB. He was recognized as the 2006 Command Communications and Information Civilian of the Year and the HQ Air Force Reserve Command Civilian of the Quarter Supervisor Category.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, with Colonel Thomas Fey, Chaplain, USAF, officiating. Interment was in the Louisville City cemetery on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 2 p.m.

He was predeceased by his father, Jerry D. Carwile Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Henderson Carwile, Warner Robins; daughter, Leah A. Carwile, Atlanta; mother, Bettie Crews Carwile, Madison Heights, Va.; brothers, Jerry Donald Carwile Jr. (Carol), San Antonio, Texas, and Michael W. Carwile (Kim), Shipman, Va.; father-in-law, Clarence Henderson Jr. (Betty Jean), Louisville; mother-in-law, Joan Fortner Fulghum (Tommy), Augusta; a number of nieces and nephews and other family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins GA 31088 or to the Louisville United Methodist Church, 301 W 7th Street, Louisville GA 30434.

Mrs. Peggy J. Dotson
Peggy J. Dotson, 59, of Waynesboro entered into rest Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Brentwood Terrace Health Center.

She was born on Oct. 7, 1949, in Wrens to the late Clarence Franklin Perdue Sr. and Willie Mae Huff Perdue. For many years she worked at Ogeechee Behavioral Health Services as a social service technician. She was a member of Rosemont Heights Baptist Church and attended Hebron Baptist Church.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2009, at Hebron Baptist Church, Waynesboro, with Rev. Earl Saxon officiating. Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger E. Dotson.

Survivors include two daughters, Andrea Quick (Jason) of Waynesboro, and Debbie Herndon of Nixa, Mo.; three sisters, Wanda Walden (Bennie Sr.) of Gibson, Patricia Herndon (Larry) of Wrens, and Judy Thigpen of Coshocton, Ohio; one brother, Clarence Perdue Jr. (Linda) of Canal Fulton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Dillon Quick, Cameron Quick, Walker Quick, Shaun Jordan, Bethanie Herndon, Shelby Herndon and Thomas Herndon; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were James Cranford, Tommy Herndon, Shaun Jordan, Chuck Land, Wallace Quick and Lee Bacino.

DeLoach Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Georgia Effie Deriso Gaston
Mrs. Georgia Effie Deriso Gaston, 97, of Wadley entered into rest on Monday, March 16, 2009, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Moxley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ruth Lovejoy and Dr. Larry Sauls officiating. Interment will follow in the Moxley Cemetery.

Mrs. Gaston, born in Jefferson County, was a retired seamstress and a member of the Moxley United Methodist Church where she has been a member since she was 13-years-old.

Survivors include three sons, Bobby Sonny Gaston (Julia) of Wadley, Wailliam Roy Gaston (Mary Lois) of Wadley and Jack E. Gaston of Wadley; eight grandchildren, Wayne Gaston, Harold Gaston, Selena Grace, Greg Gaston, Deborah Pate, Jean March, Karen Sheppard and Ann Baker; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Gaston, Harold Gaston, Sam Gaston, Greg Gaston, Clay Grace, Johnny Deriso, Tommy Sheppard and Tony Hattaway.

Memorials may be made to the Moxley United Methodist Church, in care of Mary Lois Gaston, 1175 Walden Brett Rd., Wadley, GA 30477.

Mrs. Betty J. Hayes
Mrs. Betty J. Hayes, 76, of Blythe entered into rest on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Hayes was native of Burke County. She was retired from U.S. Postmaster. She was the wife of 53 years to Harvey Hayes and the daughter of the late Fred Greiner and Olive Gunn Greiner.

Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jerry Cole officiating. Interment followed in Blythe United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her son, Randy Hayes; sister, Annie Hayes; and a brother, Frank Greiner.

Pallbearers were Delma Gunn, Louie Gunn, Jimmy Gunn, Billy Dozier, Billy Dixon and Keith McGarity.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pauline Mills Lowery
Mrs. Pauline Mills Lowery of Marietta entered into rest on Sunday, March 8, 2009, at Kindred Hospital in Atlanta.

She was a native of Jefferson County, a member of Turner Chapel AME Church and president of Ace Special Tours, Marietta.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Ethan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Phillip Lowery, Marietta; three sisters, Dorothy (Prince) Burley, Augusta, Frances Cartwright, Weston, Conn., and Virginia Davis, Tampa, Fla.; three brothers, Ernest (Mattie) Lowery, Augusta, Robert Lowery, York, S.C., and Thomas (Mae) Lowery, Augusta; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wylie D. McDaniel
Mr. Wylie D. McDaniel, 65, of Trenton, S.C. entered into rest on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at University Hospital.

Mr. McDaniel was born in Bartow, and was a member of Vaucluse First Baptist Church. He was sales manager at Augusta Concrete Block Company.

A memorial service was held Friday, March 13, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Laurie Wheatley McDaniel; one son, Wylie Palmer McDaniel of Trenton, S.C.; three daughters, Brittani Paige McDaniel and Morgan Kandis McDaniel, both of Trenton, S.C. and Robin Prescott, Hephzibah; two brothers, Foye McDaniel, Jackson S.C., and John McDaniel, Saluda, S.C.; one sister, Madge New, Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Vaucluse First Baptist Church Youth Fund, PO Box 26, Vaucluse, S.C. 28950.

Mrs. Inez Johnson Atkins
Mrs. Inez Johnson Atkins of Wadley entered into rest on Thursday, March 12, 2009, in Wadley.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Spears Grove Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. C.W. Stone officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Roosevelt Atkins, Wadley; two daughters, Michelle Johnson and Diana Johnson, both of Wadley; her son, David Johnson, Wadley; four grandchildren, Tiya Johnson, Augusta, Jermaine Davis Jr. and Jada Gibbons, both of Wadley, and Justin Johnson, Pinehurst; sister, Elizabeth “Peggy” Reese, Wadley; brothers, James (Julia) Johnson, Rev. Tommie (Marion) Johnson, Rev. Charlie (Frances) Johnson, Jimmie (Bula) Johnson and Roman Johnson, all of Wadley; and a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were her nephews.

Mrs. Lucy M. Evans
Mrs. Lucy M. Evans, 88, of Gibson entered into rest on Saturday, March 14, 2009.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Lyonsville Baptist Church, Rayle. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Ruth Howard
Mrs. Ruth Russell Howard, 90, of Wrens entered into rest Sunday, March 22, 2009, at her residence.

Mrs. Howard was a homemaker and was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and the Lucy Howard Sunday School Class. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Q.V. Russell and Elvie Holley Russell.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 10 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bill Deakins. Interment was at the family mausoleum, Keysville.

Mrs. Howard is preceded in death by her daughter, Aquila Lynne Howard.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Leonard Howard Jr.; her daughter, Donna (James) Cunningham, Wrens; her son, Lex (Molly) Howard, Wrens; five grandchildren (pallbearers and Rachel Cunningham Davis); 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Parish Howard, Erik Cunningham, Matthew Howard, Clay Cunningham, Lee Davis, Marcus Howard, John Huff Parish and Jamie Williford.

Mrs. Luvern “Von” Thompson Johnson
Mrs. Luvern “Von” Thompson Johnson of Wrens entered into rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.

Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of James Thompson and the late Doris Brown Thompson. She joined New Hope AME Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. M. J. Handberry. She was a graduate of Glascock County High and Augusta Technical College. She has been a member of the Morning Star Society for many years. For 20 years she was employed at Jefferson County Department of Family and Children Services as an economic support screener.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 1 p.m. at New Hope AME Church, Grange.

Survivors include her husband, Gregory B. Johnson Sr. of Wrens; her son, Gregory B. “B.J.” Johnson Jr. of Wrens; her father, James Thompson of Wrens; siblings, Vernell Thompson of Wrens, Anthony (Eyvonne) Thompson of Augusta, and Janice (Charles) Broadus of Louisville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Willie Ruth Johnson Fullard of Wrens; granddaughter, Teliyah Kamoria Johnson of Louisville; goddaughter, Jayla Cooper of Augusta; brother-in-law, Raymond (Annette) Johnson of Atlanta; aunts and uncles, Doretha (Joe) Wolf, Namon (Jackie) Thompson and George (Pat) Thompson, all of Miami, Fla., Lois Gordon of Stapleton, Shirley Whitfield, Rev. Dr. Dennis (Dr. Mary) Thompson and Joe (Willie Mae) Thompson, all of Louisville, and Janet (Johnny) Morgan of Avera; nine nieces and nephews, a host of cousins and other friends.

Mrs. Inez Lemke Reid
Mrs. Inez Lemke Reid of Thomson entered into rest on March 20, 2009, after a battle with cancer.

Mrs. Reid was born in Glascock County, but resided most of her life in Thomson. She was employed with the McDuffie County Hospital for 37 years, serving as Hospital Administrator for many years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Thomson, with Dr. James M. Ramsey officiating. Burial followed at Westview Cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, D. B. (Doc) Lemke; her parents, William and Celia Reese; and sister, Lee Ward.

Survivors include her husband, Roger L. Reid; children, Peggy L. Stokes (Dan Van Ackeren) of Spring Hill, Fla., Dr. Jimmy Lemke (Gayle) of Augusta, and Lynn L. Griffin of Boca Raton, Fla.; three grandchildren, Cris M. Griffin (Leslie) of Calhoun, Scarlett Giles (Peter) of Woodstock, and Ashley Lemke of Augusta; three great-grandchildren, Colin and Kendall Giles and Stevie Griffin; a stepson, Fernley D. Lemke, of Blanchard, Okla.; sisters, Elsie Warren of Vero Beach, Fla., Rhoda Brown of Thomson, Wally Irwin (Dick) of Leesburg, Fla. and Betty Graves (Ralph) of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; and brothers, William Reese (Jan) of Kent, Wash., C. L. Reese of Grovetown, and Billy Reese (Jennifer) of Vero Beach, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McDuffie Relay for Life or First Baptist Church Sanctuary Renovation Fund P.O. 1205 Thomson, GA 30824.

Mrs. Marguerite Clark Steed
Mrs. Marguerite Clark Steed, 90, of Statesboro entered into rest on Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

Mrs. Steed was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and a choir member at First Baptist Church, where she had been a member for over 52 years.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Louisville on Friday, March 20, 2008, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Steed was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Charles Milton Steed.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynda (Steve) Lewis and Barbara (Bobby) Reid, all of Statesboro; five granddaughters, Marianne (Anthony) LeFebvre of Brooklet, Susan (Buddy) Pullam of Statesboro, Lisa (Joe) Onovc of Richmond Hill, Amy Tapley of Statesboro and Julie (Richie) Brown of Statesboro; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were John Murphy, Larry Stanley, Ott Stephens, Frank Etheridge, William Rabun, Mike McDowell, Larry Morgan and Don Handberry.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 101 East Ninth St, Louisville, GA 30334 or to Ogeechee Area Hospice P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
