Mr. David Lee Pitts
Mr. David Lee Pitts, 44, of Waynesboro, formerly of Wrens, entered into rest on Saturday, May 30, 2009.
Mr. Pitts grew up in the Wrens Community and began an early fellowship with Stone Springfield AME Church. He attended the public schools in his community graduating from Wrens High School in 1984. He was employed at Shaw Industries.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Michael G. Ephraim Sr. officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include father, Lester (Deborah) Pitts, Wrens; mother, Christine Pitts, Stockbridge; sisters, Carlene P. Randolph, Stockbridge, and Deborah (Den) Johnson, Augusta; brother, Lester Pitts Jr., Augusta; companion, Mary Simpson, Waynesboro; niece, LaToya Lane, Augusta; nephews, Brandon Johnson and Jaydon V. Pitts, both of Augusta; 14 aunts; 11 uncles; great-aunts, great-uncles and a host of cousins.

Mr. Herman Gary Snider
Mr. Herman Gray Snider, 95, of Warthen entered into rest on Saturday, June 6, 2009, in the Washington County Regional Medical Center in Sandersville.
Mr. Snider was a native of Warren County, the son of the late Bunyon Gray Snider and the late Adele Dawson Snider. He was the husband of the late Sallie Florence Burgamy Snider. Mr. Snider was the owner of Snider Construction Company. He had owned and operated a lumber company and sawmill, was a farmer, a dairyman, a cattleman and owner of Snider Ginning Company. He was a member of the Pine Hill United Methodist Church.
Graveside funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, in the Pine Hill United Methodist Church cemetery near Warthen, with Rev. Burt Parker officiating.
Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Snider Barker (John) of Molena; two sons, Edward Gray Snider (Anita) of Jacksonville, Texas, and Herman Grayson Snider of Martinez; sister, Betty Snider Pulliam of Mitchell; brother, Marion L. Snider of Sandersville; six grandchildren, John Barker III, Sallie Kathryn Barker, Christina Snider, William Snider, Victoria Snider and Brittany Malone; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis Jordan Barker and Sidney Grace Barker.

Ms. Reba Thompson Watkins
Ms. Reba Thompson Watkins of Atlanta entered into rest at The Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta on Friday, June 5, 2009.
Ms. Watkins was the daughter of the late Sonnie Thompson and Nola Thompson. She lived in Atlanta, where she retired after many years of service as a home technician. She was a member of the Hardeman Springfield Church where she became a member at an early age.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 7, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church, with Rev. Cephas Dunlap officiating. Burial was in the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Larry E. Watkins of McDonough; five grandchildren, Gabriel Watkins, Larry E. Watkins Jr., Isreal Watkins, Deshaun Watkins and Lyderice Watkins all of McDonough; siblings, Wright (Margaret) Thompson and Julia Gibbons, all of Bell Glade, Fla., Elizabeth Kindell and Marie Thompson, both of Atlanta, and Frank (Nell) Gibbons of Augusta; sisters-in-law, Annie Willie Thompson and Mary Frances Thompson, both of Louisville; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mr. Joseph “Sonny” Washington Wheeler Jr.
Mr. Joseph “Sonny” Washington Wheeler Jr., 77, of Evans entered into rest at his home on Saturday, June 6, 2009, after a brief illness.
Mr. Wheeler was born on Aug. 31, 1931, in Wrens, the third son to Joseph Washington Wheeler and Lucile Lokey Wheeler. He graduated from Thomson High School in 1948. He graduated from Presbyterian College in 1952 with a degree in business administration. After college, he enlisted in the United States Army, served in Korea as a First Lieutenant and was honorably discharged in 1954. He began his career with DuPont Company at the Savannah River Plant in 1955 and retired after 35 years of service. Mr. Wheeler was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Savannah River chapter of the health Physics Society, SRS Retiree Association, Augusta Genealogy Society and the Georgia Genealogical Society. In his younger years, he served actively with the Boy Scouts of America and Little League Baseball. In his later years, he worked on genealogy. He conducted extensive research into and published family histories for the Wheeler, Lokey, Langham, Blanchard, Sims, Curry, Thaxton and Bell families.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009, at Wesley United Methodist Church, with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. A private interment was held at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ludelle Langham Wheeler; two children, Joseph Washington Wheeler III (Andrea Curry), of Evans, and Jennifer Wheeler Thaxton (Arthur Ronald), of North Augusta, S.C.; and grandchildren, Matthew Graham Wheeler, Amanda Langham Wheeler and Joshua Owen Thaxton; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Whitehead Wheeler of Bogart, and Barbara Wilmont Wheeler of Rocky Hill, Conn.
Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Charles Lokey Wheeler, Walter Donald Wheeler and Anthony Gheesling Wheeler.

Mrs. Geraldine E. Yarbrough
Mrs. Geraldine E. Yarbrough, 68, of Davisboro entered into rest on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Washington County Regional Medical Center in Sandersville.
Mrs. Yarbrough was a native of Richmond County, the daughter of the late Luther DeKalb Funderburg and the late Amanda James Funderburg. She had resided in Davisboro for a number of years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2009, in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville, with Rev. Matthew Pierson and Rev. Jerry Pittman officiating. Burial was in the Davisboro City Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Irby and Emily Kirkland.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Calvin Wiley Yarbrough of Davisboro; four sons, Calvin Boyd (Sue) Yarbrough of Eatonton, Anthony Wiley Yarbrough of Davisboro, Troy Lee (Kristie) Yarbrough of Davisboro, and Travis Brian (Angie) Yarbrough of Davisboro; nine grandchildren, Amanda Yarbrough, Heather Yarbrough, Holly Yarbrough, Tammy Strickland, Kay Brown, Rachel Michelle Yarbrough, T.J. CWO3 George William “Bud” Cale, USN (Ret.) of Evans entered into rest on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Cale was born Oct. 15, 1928, in Wood County, W.V., and served in U.S. Navy from 1945-1975, followed by many years as an equipment operator with R. W. Allen Construction Company, and then retiring to his farm in Keysville. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and the American Legion Post 229.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2009, in the chapel at James Funeral Home, Wrens, officiated by Joe Walden. Interment with full military honors followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta.
Memorial services in Parkersburg, W.V., will be scheduled at a later date.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edith Cale; two brothers, Kenneth Cale and Leonard Cale; and three sisters, Mildred Sheets, Kathleen Raines and Mary Kirby.

Mrs. Doris Story Chalker
Mrs. Doris Story Chalker, 94, of Warrenton entered into rest on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at University Hospital.
Mrs. Chalker was a native of Warren County, and was the daughter of the late Pinkston David Story and the late Alice Johnson Story Richards. She was the oldest of six siblings and the oldest living member of her family. Mrs. Chalker was retired as a seamstress from Thomson Company with over 40 years of service. She was also the oldest member of Little Brier Creek Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Little Brier Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Dunaway officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Homer Chalker.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Ms. Faye Deaton, 59, of Waynesboro entered into rest on Monday, June 1, 2009, at Brentwood Terrace.
Ms. Deaton was a native of Glascock County and a caregiver.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Rev. Sonny Serigney officiating.
Survivors include her mother, Kathryn Louise Reese of Augusta; brother, Ernest Wilcher of Augusta; and sister, Elizabeth Tinley of Augusta.

Mr. Watson L. Lamb
Mr. Watson L. Lamb of Wadley entered into rest on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Lamb was born in Emanuel County. He had lived in Wadley all of his life. He was a member of Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church, and for many years was the fire chief for the Wadley Volunteer Fire Department. He was a maintenance engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation for 35 years.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 5, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church, with Rev. Donna Ashworth and Rev. Bill Thigpen officiating. Interment followed in Wadley Cemetery.
Survivors include his son, Craig Lamb of Wadley; grandchildren, Caitlin Lamb, Morgan Lamb, Brooke Lamb and Cole Lamb; great-grandchild, Keely Hall; two brothers, Tommy Lamb of Midville and Neal Lamb of Gainesville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Florine Poole Moses, 87, of Dublin entered into rest on Monday, June 1, 2009.
Mrs. Moses was a member of Pinehurst Drive Baptist Church. She was a retired teacher and guidance counselor for 35 years with Toombs Central High School and Montgomery County High School. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Poole and the late Jennie Beasley Poole.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial was in Uvalda City Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Arthur Moses; and her sister, Lillian Arnold.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth (Tim) Brown of Dublin; grandson, Brandon Brown of Dublin; sisters, Allene Brown of Wrens, Elizabeth Carr of Augusta, Clara Preston of Augusta, Margaret Rice of Augusta, and Dot Jellison of Bangor, Maine.

Ms. Mamie D. “Betty” Bryant of Thomson Manor Nursing Home entered into rest on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Heartland Hospice Hospital.
Ms. Bryant, a native of Glascock County, was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, with Rev. Don Widener officiating.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur E. Bryant; mother, Daisy Mae Vickery; brother, Arthur O. “Bud” Bryant; and sister, Ellen Way.
Survivors include her three half-brothers, Charles Roy Land, Thomson, Bill Land, Social Circle, and Gene Land, Washington; a nephew, Warren Keith Bryant, Martinez; a niece, Angela K. Bryant, Evans; and several other nieces and nephews.

Mr. Willie Clyde Dixon, 71, of Girard entered into rest on Monday, June 8, 2009.
A native and lifelong resident of Girard, Mr. Dixon was the son of the late Shelley Emory and Lillie Mae Glisson Dixon. He was a dairyman for more than 50 years and a member of Sardis Baptist Church.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009, in the Louisville City Cemetery, with Rev. Wayne Dixon officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parent; and a stepson, Tim Wall.
Survivors include wife Jackie Joiner Dixon of Girard; two daughters, Dana Dixon of Girard, and Shannon Dixon Raskin (Michael) of Augusta; stepson, Randy Wall of Laramie, Wyo.; two stepdaughters, Candy Weeks of Waynesboro, and Melanie Godbee of Girard; two sisters, Genee Barnes of Augusta, and Elaine Wrenn of Vidalia; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
