Mr. Albert Beall Jr., 55, of Warrenton entered into rest on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at 1 p.m. at William Grove Baptist Church, Mitchell, with Pastor Rev. Golden Lott officiating.

Survivors include his mother, Rubertha Beall; two sons, Andre Rivers and Jonathan Tremaine Moss; one daughter, Crystal Janay Johnson, Warrenton; one sister, Brenda Bell, Hephzibah; three brothers, Charlie Bell and Kelvin Bell, Warrenton, and Ray (Felicia) Bell, Thomson; two aunts; and friend, Herolean Lipscomb.

Mr. Joseph Thomas Black Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Joseph Thomas Black Jr., 66, of Mitchell were held on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Mitchell Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Downs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Black was the son of the late Joseph Thomas Black Sr. and Maude Lamb Black. He was a retired logger and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a native and lifelong resident of Jefferson County, moving to Mitchell six years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Downs Black of Mitchell; sisters, Hilda Pelham of Newnan, Helen Sapp of Augusta, and Melvis Gay of Dearing; brother, George Black of Edgehill; brother-in-law, H.T. Downs of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Williams Funeral Home and Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Imogene “Mike” Purvis Craft
Mrs. Imogene “Mike” Purvis Craft, 77, of North Augusta, S.C., entered into rest on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009.

Mrs. Craft was born in Jefferson County. She had been an area resident for 50 years. She was the wife of the late John Mars Craft Sr. and the daughter of the late Thomas Eugene Purvis and Mary Estelle Hall Purvis Harden. She was a member of Augusta Bible Church, and retired from Milton Reuben Chevrolet where she was a bookkeeper.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Augusta Bible Church, with Pastor Dewey Jones officiating. Interment followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; children, Mary Elizabeth Powell; and siblings, Robert Stanley Glisson and Roslyn Causey.

Survivors include her children, Gale C. Alexander (Mike), Abilene, Texas, John M. Craft Jr. (Dot), Trenton, S.C., and M. Irene Long (Franklin Jr.), North Augusta, S.C.; siblings, Jerry Paul Glisson (Shirley), Graniteville, S.C., the late Robert Stanley Glisson, (Cherry) Warrenville, SC, Thomas Eugene Purvis Jr., (Edna), Swainsboro, Patricia Poole (Curtis), Louisville, and Lonnie Purvis, (Jeanne), Louisville; son-in-law, Wally Powell, Augusta; sister-in-law, Cherry Glisson, Warrenville, S.C.; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Alan Cochran, John L. Craft, Wayne Napier, Steven Wall, Joshua Cochran and Christopher Craft.

The family has asked that if so desired, memorials be made to Augusta Bible Church, 1005 Druid Park Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Elizabeth Barrow Eberhardt
Mrs. Elizabeth Barrow Eberhardt, 102, of Comer entered into rest on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009.

Mrs. Eberhardt was born Dec. 14, 1906, in Stellaville, the second of five children. She grew up in several communities around Jefferson County before leaving home in 1920 to attend the Georgia State College for Women. She graduated from G.S.C.W. in 1924 with an education degree. After college, Mrs. Eberhardt taught school for one year in the state of Florida before coming to Danielsville as a grammar teacher. Mrs. Eberhardt served as a middle school grammar teacher at the Comer Elementary School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Comer, The Liza Graham Sunday School Class, the Comer Women’s Club and the Garden Club of Athens.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Comer Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter C. Barrow and Anna Swann Barrow; husband, Robert T. Eberhardt Jr.; siblings, Thomas Barrow, Robert Barrow, Hubert Barrow and Mary Barrow Ste. Marie.

Survivors include her son, Bob Eberhardt of Marietta; two grandchildren, Eric (Deena) Eberhardt of Watkinsville and Mark Eberhardt of Winder; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Meaghan Elizabeth Eberhardt; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Denny Barrow of Wrens; two nieces, Ann English of Panama City, Fla., and Mary Carter Betts of Augusta; and two nephews, Denny Barrow of Louisville and Tommy Barrow (Anna) of Stapleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice House.

Mr. Morris L. “Gus” Hadden
Mr. Morris L. “Gus” Hadden, 87, of New Ellenton, S.C., entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta.

A native of Avera, Mr. Hadden was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Bertha Clyde Newsome Hadden. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II, and was retired from DuPont at the Savannah River Plant.

Funeral services were held from the graveside in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Cemetery, New Ellenton, S.C., on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Robert Jackson officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol H. Posey, Aiken, S.C.; two sons, M. L. (Bonnie) Hadden, Avera, and Sam (Andrea) Hadden, New Ellenton, S.C.; five grandchildren, Brady Hadden, James Posey, Alex Posey, Brenna Hadden and Shaina Hadden; a great-grandson, Harley Hadden; a sister, Elsie Milburn, Gibson; and a brother, Thomas J. “Bud” (Agnes) Hadden, Avera.

Mr. Jammie “James” LaFavor
Mr. Jammie “James” LaFavor of Louisville entered into rest on Aug. 13, 2009, at Trinity Hospital in Augusta.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Mays Grove Baptist Church in Wrens.

Survivors include his children, Sharon Olige (Thomas), Annette Walters (Clayton), and Glen LaFavor, all of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; brother, Rev. Jerome LaFavor (Eddie Lue) of Augusta; goddaughter, Michael Ashley Brown; nephew, Timothy “Tyrone” LaFavor; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Robert C. Roberson
Mr. Robert C. Roberson of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Clair Baptist Church in Keysville, with Rev. Tommie Walker officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Luella Roberson; brother, Ulysses (Mary) Roberson of Elmira, N.Y.; two granddaughters, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Rebecca Smith Thigpen
Mrs. Rebecca Smith Thigpen, 78, of Avera entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at Trinity Hospital of Augusta.

Mrs. Thigpen was a homemaker. She was active in the community, a member of the Avera Volunteer Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary, and assisted at the election polls.

Graveside services will be at the Barnett Thigpen Memorial Garden cemetery in Avera on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at 5 p.m., with Rev. Curtis Thigpen and Rev. David Davis officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Barnett Thigpen; parents, Samuel E. and Eva Clark Smith; and her sister, Miriam Smith.

Survivors include her four children, Marsha (Britt) Searcy, Deborah (Bob) Barrow, Carol (Milt) Scherotter, and Mike (Barbara) Thigpen; eight grandchildren, Drew Searcy, Adam Searcy, Shane (Angela) Barrow, Brooke (Jeremy) Newsome, Erica Holley, Chad (Heather) Scherotter, Tyler Thigpen and Cassidy Thigpen; seven great-grandchildren, Blake Lamb, Hunter Barrow, Lyn Barrow, Ayden Barrow, Kaleb Newsome, Kason Newsome and Kalyn Newsome; a friend and companion, Cliatt Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Agnes Thigpen; two uncles, Troy Clark and Harvey (Cleo) Smith; an aunt, Bernice (Pilcher) Evans; two nieces, Patsy Thigpen and Sheryl (Tony) MacDonald; and several cousins.

Pallbearers were her son, sons-in-law and grandsons.

Mrs. Iola M. Thomas
Mrs. Iola M. Thomas of Bath, S.C. entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Glendale Nursing Home, Wadley.

Funeral services were held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Mt. Transfiguration Baptist Church, with the Pastor Rev. Clarence D. Hill officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include a daughter, Carrie L. Jordan (Thaddeus), Aiken, S.C.; a son, Isaiah Thomas Jr. (Barbara), Louisville; three grandchildren, Cory Jordan, Newport, Fla., Tracy Knight, Louisville, and Felicia Thomas, Augusta; four great-grandchildren, Cory Jordan Jr., Thomas, Tyson and Trinity Knight; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Floyd James “F.J.” Usry Sr.
Mr. Floyd James “F.J.” Usry Sr., 78, of Edgefield, S.C., entered into rest on Aug. 17, 2009.

Mr. Usry was born in Gibson on Dec. 30, 1930. He worked in textile factories in Bath, S.C., and Graniteville, S.C., he worked as a loom mechanic for over 20 years. He also owned Twin Oaks Farm.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Pine Grove Pentecostal Church in Edgefield, S.C., with Rev. Barry Butler officiating. Interment followed at Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Farris Usry; and brothers, Pat Usry and James Usry.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Frances Dell Arthur Usry of Edgefield, S.C.; sons, Floyd J. Usry Jr. (Jarrett) of Springfield, Va., Tony Usry of Edgefield, S.C., and Donald A. Usry (Lisa) of Saluda, S.C.; grandchildren, Floyd J. Usry III (Allison), Donald A. Usry Jr., Maxine U. Neely (Ryan), William F. Usry and Allie E. Usry; sister, Edna Toole of Augusta; and brother, David Usry of Gibson.

Memorials may be given to Pine Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church at 168 Gold Mine Rd. Edgefield, SC 29824, or Hospice Care of South Carolina, 404 Batesburg Highway Saluda, SC 29138.

Mrs. Marie Elaine Chaisson Wormsley
Mrs. Marie Elaine Chaisson Wormsley, 67, of Louisville entered into rest on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at her residence.

She was the wife of 50 years to Cecil A. Wormsley and the daughter of the late Gerald Joseph and Bella Theresa Fournier Chaisson. Mrs. Wormsley was born in Jackman, Maine, lived in Savannah for 30 years and retired to Jefferson County. She volunteered at Doctors Hospital in Augusta and taught children’s Sunday school classes.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bill Arrington and Elder Ricky Colby officiating.

Survivors include her children, Franklin Edward “Wormy” Wormsley, Ellabelle, Lori Anne (Eddy) Wormsley-Rogers, and Dan E. Wormsley; three brothers, Conrad Chaisson, Greensville, Maine, Paul Chaisson, Jackman, Maine, and Mike Chaisson, Jackman, Maine; one sister, Linda Longley, Bingham, Maine; one granddaughter, Nyanne “Nicole” (Clint) Wilson; one great-granddaughter, Patience Naomi Wilson; and other friends and family.

Mrs. Lillie Mae Lowery
Mrs. Lillie Mae Lowery Brooks entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 in Wadley.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Hightower of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; her caretakers, Monique Calvin and Tyronda Stevenson; four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Mary Sue Clark
Mrs. Mary Sue Clark of Boneville entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Clark was a native of McDuffie County. She was co-owner of Boneville Grocery and a Baptist. She was the wife of Tommy Clark.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bryant Neal officiating. Burial was in Waldens Methodist Church Cemetery, Avera.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Hope Walker, Thomson, and Brenda Dawn Sturkey, Hephzibah; a son, Billy Gene Sturkey, Thomson; her mother, Marie Evans, Mesena; two sisters, Ginny Edens, Florida, and Dianne Blassingill, West Virginia; a brother, Willie Evans, Mesena; six grandchildren, Glen Walker, Easter Hutson, Harley Walker, Billy Audiss, Casey Frazier and Joseph Sturkey; and a host of friends.

Mr. Tommy F. Clark Sr.
Mr. Tommy F. Clark Sr. of Boneville entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, in Boneville.

Mr. Clark was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was co-owner of Boneville Grocery and a Baptist. He was the husband of Mary Sue Clark.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bryant Neal officiating. Burial was in Waldens Methodist Church Cemetery, Avera.

Survivors include his daughter, Kim Clark Slaton, Evans; his son, Tommy F. Clark Jr., Hephzibah; two granddaughters, Kittie Clark and Krystal Clark, both of Hephzibah; two grandsons, Ben Slaton and Van Slaton, both of Evans; a great-grandson, Tristan Clark, Hephzibah; a brother, Emory Clark, Norwood; three sisters, Linda Rowe, Carol Thorne and Dolores Sumrall, all of Hephzibah; and a host of friends.
