Mrs. Julia Boyd Maher
Mrs. Julia Boyd Maher of Stapleton entered into rest on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at her son’s home in Covington, La.
Mrs. Maher retired from Dekalb County Board of Education. Educated at Stapleton Schools she attended Georgia State College for Women. She was an active member of Stapleton Baptist Church, Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association and Jefferson County Historical Society.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Stapleton Baptist Church, Stapleton, with Stan Maher delivering the eulogy. Burial followed in Stapleton Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion J. Maher Jr.
Survivors include her son, Stanley (Pamela) Maher; daughter, Julia Anne Spencer; sister, Lillian Stacy; sister-in-law, Rebie Boyd; grandsons, Boyd (Jennifer) Maher, Andrew Maher, Grant (Paige) Maher; granddaughters, Margaret and Virginia Spencer; great-grandchildren, Dalton Marion and Maggie Anne Maher; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers were grandchildren and nephews.

Dr. Geraldine Glover Pilcher
Dr. Geraldine Glover Pilcher, 85, of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, following an illness.
Dr. Pilcher was born in Worth County, the daughter of Robert and Lillian Bridges Glover. She graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1950. She met her husband, Dr. George Stapleton Pilcher, who preceded her in death in 1990, at medical school and they moved to Louisville in 1950. Dr. Geraldine Pilcher practiced medicine at the VA Hospital in Augusta. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisville.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Louisville, with Rev. Hardy Owens officiating. Interment followed at the Louisville Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Jane Pilcher Bachman of Atlanta, Dr. George (Dottie) Pilcher of Jacksonville, Fla.; Dr. Martha Pilcher-Broadlick (Jim) of Edmonds, Wash., Dr. Robert (Joy) Pilcher of Albany, Dr. William (Dr. Drema) Pilcher of Jacksonville, Fla; and grandchildren, Frank, Marian, Beth and Benjamin Bachman of Atlanta, George, Emily, Camille and Elizabeth Pilcher of Jacksonville, Fla., William and Savannah Broadlick of Edmonds, Wash, , Sarah, Sumner and Rob Pilcher of Albany, and William and Ashley Pilcher of Jacksonville, Fla.

Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth “Betty” Coleman McCormick of McCormick, S.C., entered into rest suddenly on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009.

Mrs. Beth Pittman
Mrs. Beth Pittman of Augusta entered into rest on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009.
Mrs. Pittman was a native of Jefferson County and the daughter of the late Moses L. and Corine Wren Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of Bayvale Baptist Church and had attended Warren Baptist Church, Clifford Presbyterian Church and the Chiera Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Rev. Tony Henderson officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Stanley Pittman Sr.; and granddaughter, Ashley Alayne Pittman.
Survivors include her sons, Tony W. Pittman of Augusta, Thomas S. “Stan” Pittman Jr. (Jeanette) of Beech Island, S.C., and Toby J. Pittman Sr. (Diane) of Grovetown; her daughter, Diane (David) Chiera of Evans; grandchildren, Jamie Pittman, Thomas Stanley Pittman III, Nickalas Pittman, Rebecca Jarvis, Hollie Chinn, Hillary Pittman, Haley Pittman, Courtney Neibel, Toby Justin Pittman Jr., Alex Brassell and Matthew Chiera; and 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Billie W. (Lorena) Johnson of Thomson; and sister Barbara Ann Johnson of Atlanta.

Mr. J.C. Sammons
Mr. J.C. Sammons, 84, of Edgehill entered into rest on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.
Mr. Sammons was a native of Glascock County and lived here all his life, except when he was serving the in the Army in WWII where he was injured. He then worked and retired from Fort Gordon as an electrician and was a member of Edgehill First Church of God.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the Edgehill First Church of God, with Rev. Al Kurtz and Rev. Michael Rochester officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Lester, Terrell, Thomas and Hugh Sammons; and his parents, Georgia Morgan and Willis Sammons.
Survivors include his wife, Ogle Walden Sammons; two sons, Donald L.. (Rebecca) Sammons of Leah, and Bobby (Nancy) Sammons of Scottsdale, Ala.; two daughters, Beckie (Don) Chalker of Lincolnton, and Sandra (Phil) Raley of Mitchell; three brothers, George Sammons of Milledgeville, Eugene Sammons of Hephzibah, and William Sammons of Dacula; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Madison D. Williams, 97, of Swainsboro entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 18, 2009.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Williams Grove Holiness Church in Swainsboro, M.L.K. Blvd. Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at 7 p.m.
Rev. Williams was preceded in death by her wife, Hattie Bell Williams; and daughters, Juanita Devose and Hattie Leeila Jones.
Survivors include his two daughters, Ruby (Joseph) Robinson of Providence, R.I., and Bertha Palmer Hicks of Louisville; three sons, James (Delores) Williams of Yeadon, Penn., Joseph (Earnestine) Williams and Willie Edward Williams of Philadelphia, Penn.; one brother-in-law, Willie Boyd of Louisville; one sister, Minister Carrie King of Jersey City, N.J.; two sons-in-law, Charles Devose of Philadelphia, Penn., and Johnny Raye Jones of Twin City; 44 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Mamie Lee Williams Allen, 82, of Swainsboro entered into rest on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, in the Cross-Green Community.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with Elder Cleo Howard officiating, assisted by Elder Bertha Jones. Burial was in St. Galilee Cemetery.

Mrs. Eloise A. Bennett
Mrs. Eloise A. Bennett of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Bennett, a native of Louisville, was a graduate of Jefferson County Training School. She received a B.A. degree from Fort Valley State College and attended Atlanta University. She was a member of Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, ruling elder, moderator of Presbyterian Women, youth advisor, Sunday school teacher, member of the combined choir, Sanctuary Choir and Praise Team. She was also a worship leader and member Care Ministry Team Leader. She was a retired educator. Her community involvements included Neighborhood Watch, Master’s Table Soup Kitchen and Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Belle Terrace Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Melvin Lowery officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.
Survivors include two daughters, Vickie Bennett, Lithonia, and Alena Joyce Bennett, Macon; one son, Joseph Bennett, Atlanta; two sisters, Lillie Woods, Louisville, and Mattie West, Chicago; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Earl Allen “Biv” Bivings
Mr. Earl Allen “Biv” Bivings, 87, of Sandersville entered into rest on Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Bivings was a native of Donaldsonville, and after high school graduation he spent four years in the U.S. Navy. He was in the hospital Corps. during World War II, participating in the Normandy invasion. After the war he attended the University of Georgia graduating with a six year degree in school administration. He married
Anne Watkins of Bartow in 1950. He then moved to Sandersville as an educator and coach. After 15 years with the Washington County Public Schools he became a partner in Smith-Sheppard Concrete Company, Inc., retiring in 1994. He was active in the Sandersville United Methodist Church, the Sandersville Lions Club, the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Sandersville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jay Harris and Rev. Mark Carter officiating. Burial was private.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Watkins Bivings of Sandersville; two daughters, Bunny Bivings and Bess Boyd, both of Sandersville; a grandson, Allen Boyd of Palm Coast, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Boyd of Tennille.

Mrs. Ruth Hubbard Brown
Mrs. Ruth Hubbard Brown, 95, of Atlanta, formerly of Augusta, entered into rest on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009.
Born to James Hubbard and Frances Carpenter Hubbard, Mrs. Brown was raised in Wadley.
Graveside services were held on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Bethany Cemetery, Wadley.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, John Brewer Brown; and brother, Louis Hubbard.
Survivors include her daughters, Carpie Smith of Atlanta, and Elaine Oborn (Lynn) of Montgomery, Ala.; four grandchildren, Tyler Oborn (Allison) of Alexandria, Va., Jennifer Ross (Darin) of Herriman, Utah, Cezar Oborn (Rosalyn) of Yigo, Guam, and Rachael Oborn of Provo, Utah; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jackie Davis Cantlow
Mrs. Jackie Davis Cantlow, 50, of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009.
Mrs. Cantlow was a native of Richmond County, the daughter of Walter Pernell Davis and Martha Hamilton Davis, a 1975 graduate of Butler High School. She attended Swainsboro Technical College and graduated from Augusta Technical College as a CNA. Mrs. Cantlow was employed at Care Pro. At an early age she joined the Phillip Grove Baptist Church in Vidette and later joined Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Augusta.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at C.A. Reid Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Walker Memorial Park.

Mrs. Daphne G. Stanaland Curlee
Mrs. Daphne G. Stanaland Curlee, 82, of Bartow, formerly of Englewood, Fla., entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Curlee was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Hillsborough County, Fla., to Jeptha and Susan Albritton Stanaland. She was the owner/ operator of Marathon Hardware in Marathon, Fla., for 40 years, until her retirement. After her retirement she moved to Buffalo, Wyo., and came from there to Englewood, Fla., in August, 2006. Mrs. Curlee was a graduate of Florida Southern College, Lakeland, Fla., a former elementary school teacher in Arcadia, Fla., and a member of Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church, Fort Lonesome, Fla.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church, Fort Lonesome, Fla., at 11 a.m. Interment was in the Fellowship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Curlee, and all of her siblings.
Survivors include 30 nieces and nephews; and several great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
