Mrs. Mildred Samples Smith
Mrs. Mildred Samples Smith of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Mrs. Smith was born in Jefferson County. She worked for over 50 years in the Jefferson County Courthouse, and was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church.
Graveside services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Louisville City Cemetery, with Rev. David Hibberts officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. Smith Jr.
Survivors include her children, Eugene J. Smith III (Vicki) of Louisville, Sara Virginia Smith Yawn (James) of Stone Mountain, and Susanne Smith Lewis (Charles) of Louisville; grandchildren, Kellie Smith Frachiseur (Jeff), Karol Smith Blakenship (Allen), Sara Yawn Lang (Mark), Laurel King Gomez-Leon (Reuben) and Merritt King; and great-grandchildren, Ansley Nicole Frachiseur, Adam Paul Frachiseur, Alexander Dylen Gomez-Leon, Smith William Blakenship and Matthew James Yawn.

Mr. Nick J. Toews, 90, of Louisville entered into rest on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Heritage Healthcare Center in Louisville.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Harmony Springs Mennonite Church, Avera.
He was preceded in death by one son, Norman.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Johanna Toews; children, Frances (Ronald) Unruh, Louisville, Laurence (Ling) Toews, Orlando, Fla., Annette Toews, Louisville, and Susan (J.B.) Litwiller, Ithaca, Mich.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
Ms. Millard Lee Turner
Ms. Millard Lee Turner of Wadley entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, in Wadley.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at 2 p.m. at San Clair Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. A.C. Epps officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Velma Rea (Willie D.) Rogers, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Alma Z. Davis, Wadley; three nieces, Marion Johnson, Katherine Swint and Evon Walton; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Melvin Johnson, Charles A. Turner, Willie A. Turner Jr., Herbert Desmore Jr., Minister Harold Moore and Gary Bynes.

Mrs. Hazel “Renee” Thames Wilson
Mrs. Hazel “Renee” Thames Wilson, 58, of Wrens and formerly of Waynesboro entered into rest on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
She was born in Waynesboro on April 26, 1951, to the late Emory Jackson “Dick” Thames and Hazel Beasley Thames. She was a school bus driver in Burke County for many years, and drove five years in McDuffie County, and two years in Jefferson County. She owned her own big rig and drove many long distance hauls. She was a member of Corinth Christian Church in Girard, but attended Wrens New Hope Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Corinth Christian Church in Girard, with Rev. Bill Ansley officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Emory Jackson Thames Jr. and Raymond Thames; two sisters, Emory Etta Thames and Eloise Thames; and a step-grandson, Kean Wilson.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Edward E. Wilson Sr.; brother, Ralph Thames (Rosa) of Tennille; sister, Mary Ellen Lariscy (Ray) of Sylvania; uncles, Robert Thames of Sardis, Franklin Beasley of Hephzibah, and Henry Beasley of Waynesboro; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members; seven step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Glenn Thames, Joseph Thames, Ben Thames, Charles Thames, Albert Thames, Herman Zipperer, “Baldy” Zipperer and Derrick Liles.

Mrs. Nell Creech
Mrs. Nell Creech, 97, of Wadley entered into rest on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, in a local nursing home.
Mrs. Creech was born in Oconee to the late William Robert Sr. and Essie Mae Gaston. She was a member of the Moxley Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Moxley Baptist Church, with Rev. Donald Lumpkin and Rev. Charles Kiser officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest cemetery in Augusta at 2:30 p.m.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Creech.
Pallbearers were Bobby Gaston, Roy Gaston, Joe Farrer, Ike Farrer, Norman Baker, Randall Farrer, Jack Gaston and Sonny Gaston.

Mrs. Aubrey Clark Godowns
Mrs. Aubrey Clark Godowns of Orangeburg, S.C., formerly of Cope, S.C., entered into rest on Oct. 4, 2009, at the residence of her daughter in Irmo, S.C.
Mrs. Godowns was born on Aug. 16, 1928, in Cope, S.C., a daughter of Winfield and Annie Laurie Kirkland Clark. She attended Columbia College and was president of her sophomore class. She was a member of Edisto Fork Grange, the Eutaw chapter NSDAR, and the Union United Methodist Church. She served in many capacities in these organizations. She was honored by the United Methodist Women for over 50 years of service. She was the widow of Thomas Dixon Godowns, a native of Stellaville.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church, Cope, S.C., with Pastor Fred McDaniel and Rev. Linda McDaniel officiating. Burial was in the Old Union Methodist Cemetery.
She was predeceased by her husband; son, Clinton J. Godowns; niece, Anne Shecut Parker; brother, William E. “Bubba” Clark; and sisters, Mary C. Shecut and Laurie C. Bryant.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Dixon Godowns (Georgette), and Edward Winfield Godowns (Susannah Traywick), all of Cope, S.C.; daughter, Sara G. Drews of Irmo, S.C.; three granddaughters, Caroline Turner Drews, Margaret Elizabeth Godowns and Winifred Iva Drews; three grandsons, Edward “Tray” Godowns, Thomas Godowns III and Jonathan Derrick; sisters, Sara C. Vardell of Charleston, S.C., Jessie C. Rast (Jim) of Cameron, S.C., and Jeanne C. Rast (Ed) of Cameron, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

Mrs. Marian Reese Howell
Mrs. Marian Reese Howell, 88, of Mitchell entered into rest on Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mrs. Howell, a native of Warren County, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur N. (Kate Lowe) Reese. She was a homemaker and a member of Jewell Baptist Church, the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class and the WMU.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at the Jewell Baptist Church, with Rev. Dan Hodges and Rev. Bill Seaman officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, H.D. Howell; parents; and brother, Arthur N. Reese Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary H. May, Warthen, and Henrietta H. Guy, Thomson; one son, Allen Marion “Buddy” Howell, Columbia, Mo.; one sister, Mary Catherine Smith, Rincon; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bettye Russell Littleton
Mrs. Bettye Russell Littleton, 79, entered into rest on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009.
Mrs. Littleton was raised in the Kimbrel, Ala. community and graduated from McAdory High School in 1948. She married
A.M. “Sonny” Littleton in 1952. They had three children. The family worked together in a series of family businesses, Littleton Dixie Supermarket and family recreation area Cherokee Beach. She was a member of South Crest Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at South Crest Baptist Church on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at noon, with burial at Kimbrel Cemetery, in Belview, Ala.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Spurgeon and Evie Russell; brothers, Harris, Clay (Peggy), and James; sisters, Ora (Ray) Biggs, Verna (Harvy) Truelove, and Virginia (Carlton) Lashley.
Survivors include her sons, Bruce, Stan (Darlene), Tommy (Karen); grandchildren, Nicholas, Sabrina and Seth; and nieces and nephews.

Maddox Nathaniel Perry
Infant Maddox Nathaniel Perry, 4 months, of Swainsboro entered into rest on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta after a brief illness.
Infant Perry was a native of Toombs County.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. at New Home Baptist Church near Wrightsville, with Rev. Bill Snipes officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Jennifer Perry of Swainsboro; father, Eric Kersey of Kite; sister, Skylar Marie Clanton of Swainsboro; maternal grandparents, Billy and Barbara Perry of Bartow; paternal grandparents, David and Donna Kersey of Kite; maternal great-grandmother, Betty Grimes of Bartow; paternal great-grandparents, Ruth and Wiley Kersey of Hortense; and paternal great-grandmother, Wanda Howell of Kite.

Mr. Lee Walton Rabun Jr.
Mr. Lee Walton Rabun Jr. entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009.
Mr. Rabun was born in Stapleton. He served in the U.S. Navy, graduated from Georgia Tech and Atlanta Law School, and was a member of ATO Fraternity. For many years he served as a board member of First Methodist Church and president of the Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church and the Bible Fellowship Class. In 1952, he moved to Sandy Springs.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John United Methodist Church, Atlanta, with Dr. Brent Ward officiating.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Scott Rabun; and sister, Jeanne Rabun Howell.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Barbara Carpenter Rabun; sons and daughters, Jeanne Rabun, Lee Walton Rabun III (Leigh Asher), and Romy Rabun, all of Atlanta, Barbara “Sissi” Rabun of Portland, Ore., and Clay Starling Rabun of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren, Robert Rabun, Natalie Rabun, Emily Rabun and Alyssa Rabun; daughter-in-law, Virginia Ebner Rabun; and sister, Barbara Rabun Embry (Theo) of Decatur.

Mr. Frank K. “Ken” Chalker, 48, of Warrenton entered into rest on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Chalker, a resident of Warren County, was a security guard with Thermo King Corporation in Louisville. He attended Mitchell Full Gospel Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at Mitchell Full Gospel Church, Glascock County, with Rev. Jacky Downs officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Mills Chalker; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gee T. Chalker Jr. of Warrenton; one stepdaughter, Patricia M. Blackwelder of Boneville; two stepsons, Paul Nathan Messer and Matthew James Messer, both of Augusta; one brother, Gee Thomas Chalker III of Hodge, La.; and three grandchildren, Brittany Suchnick, Preston Blackwelder and Corbin Blackwelder.

Mr. John Michael Chapman Jr.
Mr. John Michael Chapman Jr., 26, of Sandersville entered into rest on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009.
Mr. Chapman was born in Richmond County, and was a life-long resident of Washington County. He was entering the transportation industry as a truck driver at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at 7 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roy Smith officiating.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John H. Chapman.
Survivors include his children, John Michael Chapman III and Lily Chapman, both of Augusta, and Jackson Baley of Dublin; father, John Michael Chapman Sr. of Sandersville; mother and father, Angie and Ray Houston of Dublin; siblings Rob, Charlotte and Dalton Houston; and grandparents, Betty L. Chapman of Sandersville, Annette Sullivan of Brunswick, and Gene Davis of Louisville.
