Mrs. Annie Jessie Adkins, 100, of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, March 7, 2010, in Miami, Fla.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Gordon Grove Baptist Church in Louisville.

Mrs. Annie Kate Churchill Atwell
Mrs. Annie Kate Churchill Atwell, 106, of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, March 12, 2010, at her residence.
Mrs. Atwell was the wife of the late Royce Edward Atwell. Mrs. Atwell was born in Warren County and was raised by her maternal grandparents, William and Dora Maria Jackson, after her parents died when she was 2 years old. She moved to Wrens with her husband in 1933 where they founded Atwell Pecan Company. She was the bookkeeper, all hand-written manual ledgers and office manager until they sold the company and retired in 1973. She was a member of Wrens UMC, where she was the oldest member for the last decade.
Funeral services were held at the James Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 15, 2010, at 1 p.m., with Dr. Benjamin Martin and Dr. James M. Ford officiating. Interment followed in Westover Memorial Park, Augusta.
Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn A. (R.G.) Rabun; three grandchildren, Frances (Everett) Williford, Virginia Garrett and Edward (Amanda) Rabun; five great-grandchildren, Christi Williford (Brad) Kosel, Shelly (Patrick) Parker, Addie (Langdon) Holzman, Jessica (Andy) Johns and Jamey Rabun; and six great-great-grandchildren, Tucker Parker, Javan Parker, Baylor Parker, Finley Holzman, Arden Holzman and Cash Kosel.
Pallbearers were Jim Gay, Jeff Gay, Billy Lewis, Jerry Dowdy, Charles Milburn and Jimmy Brown.

Miss La’Tonya Tutt Boyd
Funeral services for Miss La’Tonya Tutt Boyd, 38, of Thomson were held on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at 2 p.m. at First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Appling, Winfield Community, with Rev. Roscoe F. Perry as eulogist and Rev. David Lowe presiding. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her mother, Mary R. Tutt, Thomson; father, James L. “Shakey” (Thelma Boatwright), Wrens; adopted mother, Daisy P. Boyd, Thomson; five sisters, Melissa (Pete) Pinkston, Grovetown, Ma’Tosha “Bee” (Vincent) Murray and Latece Tutt, all of Thomson, Patricia (Sulayman) Darby, Forest Park, and Tiffany (Doreal) Kittles, Hephzibah; three brothers, Anthony (Susan) Tutt, Thomson, Dexter (Jennifer) Walker, Wrens, and Mario (Lakeshia) Hart; friend, Derek S. Boyd; and stepson, Derek S. Boyd Jr., all of Thomson; adopted brother, Anthony (Shannon) Dawson, Lithonia; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Larry Lee Battle Sr.
Mr. Larry Lee Battle Sr., 55, of Davisboro entered into rest on Monday, March 8, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Battle was a native of Washington County, the son of Tressie Wicker Kitchens and the late Floyd Battle. He was a member of the Miracle Deliverance Center, Louisville. He attended Washington County School System. For 18 years he was employed with the City of Davisboro and the City of Louisville as cemetery maintenance for the last 15 years.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Miracle Deliverance Center, Louisville, and Shiloh CME Cemetery, Davisboro.

Mr. Cary K. Clay
Mr. Cary K. Clay of Mitchell entered into rest on Monday, March 8, 2010, at Trinity Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Clay was born in Chesapeake, Va., and grew up in Reading, Pa. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years including two tours in Vietnam, Korea and Germany, spending more than 10 years abroad. After retirement, he worked for the United Way in Augusta and Civil Service teaching at Fort Gordon. He was owner and operator of Horsetrader Gun and Clock Repair in Mitchell.
Graveside services with full military honors were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Mitchell City Cemetery, with Brian Stewart and Rev. Jarrod Adkins officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia M. “Kandy” Clay; one son, Cevin (Leah) Clay of Martinez; a daughter, Jacqueline Clay of Beech Island, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Rachel and Anna Clay.
Honorary Pallbearers were William Blackstone, Jack Green, Steve Arrington, Jim Lake, Lynn Tapley and Randy Flanagan.

Mrs. Blenda Elaine Christensen Hadden, 88, of Gibson entered into rest on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Hadden was the daughter of the late Elmer and Jenny Christensen of Koosharem, Utah, and wife of 64 years to Ralph L. Hadden Sr. After meeting and marrying husband, she moved to Gibson, where she was co-owner and manager of Hadden’s Clothing Store for 45 years. She was a member of the Bastonville Home Demonstration Club and was a member of Gibson Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 2 p.m., with Dr. Gary Hadden and Rev. Jarrod Adkins officiating. Interment followed in Gibson Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Ralph L. (Dianne) Hadden Jr.; four grandchildren, Chad Hadden, Doug (Kelly) Hadden, Jennifer Roberts and Chip Clark; six great-grandchildren, Grant, Macy, Halle Anna, Huston, Blake and Cam; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church, with Rev. Paul Moore officiating.
Survivors include her parents, Mandy Hardin and Ron Schnebelt; grandparents, David and Marie Hardin, and the late Carl and Juliet Schnebelt; great-grandmother, Lenor Stephens; and aunt, Lynn Hardin.

Mrs. Velver Wasden Joiner
Mrs. Velver Wasden Joiner, 98, of Girard, formerly of Louisville, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at her residence.
A native of Louisville, Mrs. Joiner was a daughter of the late Phillip E. and Lizzie Scarborough Wasden. For many years she and her husband, Milo, owned the Joiner Bait and Tackle in Louisville. She was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church, the Louisville Homemakers Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, in the Louisville City Cemetery, with Rev. Hardy Owens officiating.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Milo Joiner; a son, William Joiner Jr.; four siblings, Ada Pope, Walter Wasden, Lewis Wasden and Hubert Wasden; son-in-law, Willie Clyde Dixon; and grandson, Tim Wall.
Survivors include children, Jacquelyn Joiner Dixon of Girard, Dorothy J. Fischer of Huntsville, Ala., and Dr. Wayne Joiner of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Mayme Lee Quin of Girard; and 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. George Key, 66, of Thomson entered into rest on Thursday, March 11, 2010, in Trinity Hospital.
Mr. Key was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a retired painter and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at Bethel Baptist Church, with Rev. Tim Ferrell and Rev. Tony Key officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David E. Key and Lucile Key; and a brother, Willie Key.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Wilson Key, Thomson; two daughters, Kimberly Webb and Cindy Smith, both of Thomson; son, David Broom Key, Thomson; grandchildren, Lee Smith, Crystal Sides, Shelly Brown, Amanda Key and Allen Jones; two sisters, Frances Hobbs and Gwen Key, both of Warrenton; and two brothers, James “JB” Key, Dearing, and Grady Key, Warrenton.

Mrs. Frances N. Meadows
Mrs. Frances N. Meadows, 69, of Wrens entered into rest on Thursday, March 11, 2010, at her residence.
Mrs. Meadows was the wife of James R. Meadows. She was born to the late Sol and Addie Mae Newsome in Wadley, and was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. In 1958, she graduated from Wadley High School, where she played basketball after which she attended Georgia Southern obtaining an associate degree in business. She retired from Thermo King/Ingersoll Rand after 30 years of service. Frances was a member of Wrens UMC and also attended Praising Him Ministries.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Stan Littleton, Rev. Richard Stavely and Rev. Tip Carroll officiating. Interment followed in Wrens Memorial Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Waters.
Survivors include her two daughters, Sonya (Robert) Kohler, Martinez, and Michelle (Glenn) Poole; brother, Harold Newsome, Milledgeville; two sisters, Shirley Brown, Milledgeville, and Dorothy Durham, Matagorda, Texas; and six grandchildren, Taylor Poole, Stephen Lamb, Bobby Kohler, Smokey Poole, Makensie Poole and Jordan Poole.
Pallbearers were Wayne Favors, William Hammond, Jimmy McNair, Nathan Poole, Javier Esqueda and Hal Newsome.

Mrs. Mamie Lee Rountree
Mrs. Mamie Lee Rountree, 93, of Millen entered into rest on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Rountree was the daughter of the late Willie and Hattie Palmer. She was born in Jefferson County on Aug. 16, 1916. She was a Christian. Mrs. Rountree attended the Jefferson County School System. She was a member of the Third Chapel Baptist Church, where she served on the Deaconess, Missionary and Mother’s Board ministries. She was also a member of the Summer Stand Social Aid Society #3, where she served as the secretary for 35 years. She was united in holy matrimony to Willie Rountree on Nov. 27, 1932. Into this union five children were born.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. L.E. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and three children, Lois Rountree Davis, E.J. Rountree and Doris Rountree Davis.
Survivors include one daughter, Cora (Marion) Redfield, Gough; one son, Exilee Rountree, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Mamie Joe (Donald) Burke, Hephzibah, Wilbert (Johnnie Mae) Dukes, Millen, and Ricky Rountree, Gracewood; one daughter-in-law, Essie Rountree, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one son-in-law, Sidney Davis, Midville; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Rountree, Augusta, and Gladys Rountree Scott, Savannah; 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and many family and friends.
Mr. Harvey L. Smith
Mr. Harvey L. Smith, 87, of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, March 12, 2010, at his residence. Mr. Smith, a life-long resident of Jefferson County, was a son of the late Walter Joseph and Florence Sheppard Smith. He was retired from Raines Brothers Construction Company and was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church, Woodmen of the World, and the Louisville Lions Club.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010, at Louisville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Hardy Owens and Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Louisville City Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by parents; six brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Cleo Langham Smith; two daughters; Betty S. Clark and Peggy S. (Mike) Crawford, all of Louisville; one sister, Bernice S. Evans (Pilcher) of Anderson, S.C.; four granddaughters, Pam C. (Jason) Handy, Kelli C. (Robbie) McNair, Brandi D. (Keith) Taylor and Dawn D. Hadden; eight great-grandchildren, Bailey Handy, Brylie Handy, Mason McNair, Ashton Hadden, Hunter Hadden, Chandler Taylor and Reese Hadden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
