Mr. John Wesley Jones
Mr. John Wesley Jones of Louisville entered into rest on Nov. 29, 2010.

Mr. Jones was a resident of Jefferson County, the son of the late Willie and Eliza Johnson Jones. He was a member of Gordon Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board and Trustee Board. He was the grandfather of Louisville Academy. Mr. Jones was a 1960 graduate of Jefferson County High School.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at Gordon Grove Baptist Church, Louisville, with Rev. Wallace Mason officiating, Rev. Walter Holmes presiding and Rev. Allen Webb assisting. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Willa Cunningham Jones; children, Curtis Jones (Latasha) of Waynesboro, Kenneth Jones and Sherry Jones of New York, N.Y.; brother, Willie Jones Jr. (Linda) of Wrens; sisters, Mattie Morgan of Louisville, Cleo Davis and Frances Young (Robert) of New York, N.Y., and Julia Rivers of Philadelphia, Pa.; sisters-in-law, Margaret Johnson of Louisville, and Gertie Howard of Pontiac, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Carl Burley and Gary Burley (Gwen) of Atlanta, Larry Burley of Augusta, Judson Cunningham (Mary) of Waynesboro, and Wadous Cunningham Sr. (Annie Ruth) of Louisville; niece, Frances Morgan; grandchildren, Bryan, Shaqunda, Catiah, Kindell, Kashawn, Brittany, Jenelle, Jarron and Kasha; great-grandchild, Kanika; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were Bryant Johnson, Mario Johnson, Dwayne Johnson, Wymberly Johnson, Chris Morgan, Kirkland Casey, Taris Lane and John Daniels.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of Gordon Grove Baptist Church.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Willie Nicely Jr.
Mr. Willie Nicely Jr., 82, of Augusta, formerly of Norwood, funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at noon at the Union Spring Baptist Church, Norwood, with Pastor Rev. G.L. Avery officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Claudine; two sons, Willie (Joann) Nicely, Evans, and David (Linda) Nicely, Acworth; five daughters, Alvinia Liowns and Jannette Nicely, Augusta, Barbara Jenkins, College Park, Joanne Nicely, Lumpkin, and Claudette Nicely, Riverdale; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Dawson’s Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James L. Screws
Mr. James L. Screws, 75, of Hardwick entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010.

Mr. Screws was born in Jefferson County, the son of the late Gordon D. Screws and the late Tillie Osborne Screws. He was employed by J.P. Stevens and retired from Forstmann as a maintenance worker.

Graveside funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Brownwood cemetery in Sandersville, with Rev. Donnie Screws officiating.

Mr. Screws was predeceased by his wife, Mary K. Screws.

Survivors include his children, Robin S. Osborne (Walter) and Charles Screws (Teresa), all of Milledgeville; five grandchildren; brothers, Robert Screws (Aver Lee) of Macon, Gordon Screws of Gibson, Jimmy Screws (Ruby) of Sandersville, Lant Screws (Faye) of Tennille; and sisters, Juanita S. Bryan of Swainsboro, Jewell S. Gunn of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tillie S. Williams (Harry) of Tennille.

May and Smith Funeral Directors was in charge of these arrangements.

Mrs. Alma Lou Cindy Swint
Mrs. Alma Lou Cindy Swint of Sandersville entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, in Louisville.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at Limestone Baptist Church in Bartow, with Rev. Johnny Ray Sampson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Almaree Swint of Columbus; five sons, William Edward (Annie) Swint Sr., Sandersville, Joseph James (Lisa) Swint, Macon, Danny (Carolyn) Swint, Hephzibah, George Swint Jr., Syracuse, N.Y., and Eulas (Veronica) Swint of Ellenwood; sister, Effie Mae (Elijah) Ingram, Augusta; brother, Willie Albert Hall of Bartow; stepmother, Elsie Parker of Oconee; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Kelvin Adams, Troy Adams, Dominique Palmer, Anthony Swint, Edward Swint and Tramond Swint.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Eunice Walker
Mrs. Eunice Walker of Stapleton entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.

Mrs. Walker was a member of Springfield AME Church, where she served until her health failed.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at noon at Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Michael Ephraim officiating. Burial was in the Lofton AME Church Cemetery, Wrens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff Walker.

Survivors include daughters, Louise Walker, Mattie Walker and Eloise Davis, all of Stapleton, Laverne Heggs, Louisville, and Christine (Jerry) Dennis, Atlanta; two sons, Johnny (Montress) Walker, Pressley (Mary Ann) Walker, all of Wrens; daughter-in-law, Sarah Walker, Thomson; three sisters, Drucilla Morgan, Sally Ann Toby and Betty Hinson; brother, Herbert Wynn; uncles, Lamar Jones and Fletcher Jones; sisters-in-law, Leila Wynn, Elizabeth Walker and Sarah Wynn; 33 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Donetta Marie Weaver
Mrs. Donetta Marie Weaver, 69, of Augusta entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at her residence.

Mrs. Weaver was born in Damar, Kan., to the parents Joseph and Rosella St. Peter. She was a resident of Damar for the first 20 years of her life and in Laramie, Wyo., and Aurora, Colo., for the next 27 years. She moved to Augusta in 1988. She graduated magna cum laude from Metropolitan State College of Denver, Colo., in 1979.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Augusta.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Weaver; one daughter, Ladonna Chalker (Barry) of Avera; one son, Kevin Lowe of Augusta; sister, Rita Roberts of Damar, Kan.; grandchildren, Danielle and Josh of Avera; four sons; two daughters; two daughter-in- laws; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Women’s Breast Cancer Association.

Ms. Doris K. Thomas
Mrs. Doris K. Thomas, 91, of Louisville entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at Jefferson County Hospital after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at DeLoach-McKerley Funeral Home, Pastor Larry Montgomery officiating. Internment will follow at Burke Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Thomas grew up in Gough. She attended the University of Georgia where she gained a degree in home economics. She taught school in Jefferson County for several years before going to work for the University of Georgia Home Economics Extension Service in Jefferson County. She formed the Home Makers and worked there for many years until retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisville since 1960, where she was a member and teacher of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, taught the Phileatha Sunday School Class and led the children’s choir. She also substituted as pianist when needed. She was active in the WMU, Missions and Lottie Moon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell “Rooster” Thomas; and son, Tim Anderson.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Louisville or the donor’s favorite charity.

DeLoach–McKerley Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James “Jimmy” Lester Cato
Mr. James “Jimmy” Lester Cato, 76, of Abingdon, Va., entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie, Va.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at Duharts Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Timothy Pendey officiating.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ada and Jarrett Cato.

Frost Funeral Home and James Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ruth Anna Gearig Hibner
Mrs. Ruth Anna Gearig Hibner, 93, entered into rest on Dec. 8, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville, after a short illness.

Mrs. Hibner was born in Wauseon, Ohio, on Oct. 10, 1917, to Christian and Eliza Roth Gearig. Her childhood years were spent on the family farm just north of Pettisville, Ohio. She was the youngest of the family, having one brother and four sisters. Mrs. Hibner was baptized into the church of God in Christ Mennonite on March 27, 1932, by Minister F.C. Fricke. On Aug. 6, 1944, she married Dayton Hibner. To this union were born two sons, Kendal and David. She lived in Gratiot County, near Ithaca, Mich., for 11 years. On Dec. 18, 1955, they moved to a farm close to Louisville. Her husband passed on May 25, 2004. She lived alone for four years, then, because of failing health, moved in with her son, Kendal, and his wife, Sharilyn.

Funeral services were held at Pinecrest Mennonite Church on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at 10:30 a.m., with Ministers Kenneth Diller, Verle Giesbrecht and Randal Goossen officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; parents-in-law; one brother; four sisters; eight brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law.

Survivors include two sons, Kendal (Sharilyn) of Louisville, and David (Cheryl) of Stapleton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; one borther-in-law, Edward Schneider (Gerry) of Stapleton; and many relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Junior Gearig, Chandler Giesbrecht, Michael Giesbrecht, Garold Hibner, Kelwin Hibner and Wesley Hibner.

Honorary memorials may be made to Pinecrest Mennonite Church, c/o David Hibner, 4033 Hwy 296, Stapleton, GA 30823.

Mrs. Frances Phillips Hill
Mrs. Frances Phillips Hill, 90, of Wrens entered into rest Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Keysville Nursing Home.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tim Hill and Rev. J. Scott McKinney officiating. Interment followed in the Blythe UMC Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William “Bill” Luther Hill; grandson, Scott Walden; and six siblings, Ted Phillips, Carrie James, Inez Raborn, Wesley Phillips, Joe Phillips and Billy Phillips.

Survivors include her children, William Baxter Hill (Hilma) and Elaine H. Walden (Ray), Augusta; five grandchildren, Sheri Dill (Stacey), Dearing, William Timothy Hill (Joy), Graceville, Fla., Jennifer Walden, Savannah, Mark Walden (Jennifer), Berea, Ky., Ryan Walden (Holly), Martinez, and Alicia Walden Jett (David), Mineral, Va.; 12 great-grandchildren, Brittany S. Norton (Kyle), Ian Sproat, Katelin Dill, Brandon Hill, Cody Hill, Emma Walden, Rachel Walden, Gracen Walden, Kate Walden, Talmadge Walden, Raleigh Walden and Tyler Jett; one great-great-grandson, Evan Norton; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Pallbearers were Mark Walden, Ryan Walden, Cody Hill, Stacey Dill, Kyle Norton and Curtis Barber.

Mr. Arthur Lee “Lil Man” Jenkins
Mr. Arthur Lee “Lil Man” Jenkins of Waynesboro entered into rest on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at his residence.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at 1 p.m. at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Jason Jackson officiating. Interment was in Raise Bridge CME Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Robbie M. Boyd Jenkins; three sons, Lee Anthony (Tiffany) Jenkins, Javin D. (Nikki) Richardson, both of Waynesboro, and Lamar R. (Marie) Boyd of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Sherry Bailey of Gainesville; five brothers, James (Dorothy) Jenkins, Roger (Betty Ann) Jenkins, both of Waynesboro, Otis (Carolyn) Jenkins of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., George (Alma) Walker and James (Margaret) Walker Jr., both of Louisville; seven sisters, Annie (Anthony) Wilson, Essie (Isaiah) Stidons and Mac Emma (Larry) Thomas, all of Waynesboro, Louisa (Carl) Golden, Eloise (Harry) Walker and Minnie Jenkins, all of Augusta, and Ida (Melvin) Jenkins of Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren, Leona, Carlos Jenkins, Jaden Boyd, Nkenge, Jazne Richardson, Kenderrick Bonner, DeAndra, Dwayne, Daquirous, and Damauri Bailey; mother-in-law, Rosa L. Mrs. Francine Gamble Samples
Mrs. Francine Gamble Samples, 47, of Davisboro entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at her residence.

Mrs. Samples was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Washington County for most of her life. She attended the Washington County School System and was a member of the New Fleming Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the New Fleming Baptist Church and Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by one son, Lachavious Samples.

Survivors include her husband, John Samples of Davisboro; children, Christopher (Sandra) Gamble of Sandersville, Vince Gamble and Jartavious Samples of Davisboro; one stepson, Antoin Jordan of South Carolina; parents, Betty (Henry) Gamble Heggs of Davisboro, and Elex McKinnie of Louisville; siblings, Sandra Heggs, Barbara Heggs and Henry (Delores) Heggs of Davisboro, and Cason McKinnie of Conyers; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Flora Samples and Freddie Samples of Davisboro, and Regina Wright of Sandersville; aunts and uncles, Willie and Emma Bridges of Davisboro, Lula Gamble, Ezra Flournoy and Claudia McKinnie of Bartow, William Middleton of Louisville, and Marion and Joyce Dixon, Jimmie Lee Poole and Ulysee Poole of Riddleville, Lucille Marion of Swainsboro, Gloria Wiley and Tommie Samples of Sandersville, Albert Samples of Wadley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Larry B. “Shakey” Trimble, 52, of Wrens were held on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Dr. W.L. Jones as eulogist and Rev. M.E. Ephraim Sr. presiding. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Tonya Whigham, Wrens; three sisters, Patricia A. Trimble, Rosetta T. Andrews and Angela Brown, all of Wrens; one stepsister, Crystal Walker, Stapleton; three brothers, Jimmy Trimble and Steven Trimble, both of Wrens, and Eddie Trimble, Augusta; three aunts, Carrie Bell Story, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Darlene Lockhart, Augusta, and Jennette McCoy, Wrens; three uncles, Willie (Theresa) Lane, Thomson, Sammie Lane and George (Minnie) Lane, both of Wrens; two grandchildren, Marques Whigham and Le’Asia Lattimore, both of Wrens; nine nieces; four nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Malachi Alonza Webb
Graveside services for Malachi Alonza Webb, 5 months, of Louisville were held on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Tarvers Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Bartow.

Survivors include his parents, Michael Webb and Victoria Winfrey of Louisville.
