Mr. William H. Wilcher
Mr. William H. Wilcher, 80, of Mitchell entered into rest on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Wilcher was born in Mitchell on April 4, 1929, to the late Billy Cleon and Janie Stanley Wilcher. He spent his childhood in Mitchell and graduated from Gibson High School in 1946. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, served as Deputy Sheriff/Investigator for the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department for seven years; and spent 35 years as a probation parole officer in the Augusta and Toombs Judicial Circuits. He was a member of Mitchell United Methodist Church, the Mitchell City Council and Glascock County Lions Club, and was a charter member and the first president of the Georgia Parole Association.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at the Mitchell United Methodist Church, Mitchell, with the Rev. Mary Griswell officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Charles Wright Wilcher Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Etta Griswell Wilcher; one son, William Rodney (Gail) Wilcher, Thomson; and one daughter, Amanda W. Davis of Evans; four grandchildren, Rodney Adam (Heather) Wilcher, Brock Christopher (Diane) Wilcher, William Wilcher Davis and Zachary Benton Davis; one great-grandchild, Abigail Lee Wilcher.
Pallbearers were Anthony Griswell, Jody Usry, Wayne Williams, Mike Chance, Casey Caroll, Bill Raley Jr., Kelley Sercer and Scott Lamb.

Mr. James Howard Gainey
Mr. James Howard Gainey, (Sgt. First Class, ret.), 61, of Matthews entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Gainey was born in Hartsville, S.C., to the late Sara Yarborough and James Edward Gainey. He served in the armed forces for more than 20 years and received many awards and accommodations. He was a Vietnam vet. After retiring from the Army tactical communication operations, he became a small business owner.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Stan Littleton and Steve Russ officiating. Interment with full military honors followed at Wrens Memorial Gardens, Wrens.
Survivors include his wife, Dawana Gray Gainey; son, Eric Gainey, Hartsville, S.C.; two stepsons, Gary Dietzel, Dallas, Ore., and Paul Dietzel, Stapleton; stepfather, Dewey Williams, Hartsville, S.C.; two brothers, Walter “Wally” Williams, Ellijay, and David Williams, Hartsville, S.C.; two sisters, Sarah Y. Mr. Billy Joe Johnson
Mr. Billy Joe Johnson, 59, of Summerville, S.C., entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center after his battle with cancer.
Mr. Johnson was born on Oct. 22, 1950, in Dublin, and grew up in Kite, Johnson County. He was the son of the late John Riley and Lila Averett Johnson. Mr. Johnson retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer with 22 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, in Kite City Cemetery, Kite, with full military honors.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Deborah Potts Johnson of Summerville, S.C.; son, Jimmy Joe (Angie) Johnson of Conway, S.C.; daughters, Jessica Johnson (Reed) Goldberg of Medical Lake, Wash., and Shelley Nicole Johnson of the home; two sisters Janette (Larry) Beasley of Bartow, and Lennis (Ruskin) Powell, Swainsboro; two brothers, Raiford (Sherrie) Johnson of Garfield, and Jimmy (Deborah) Johnson of Kite; parents-in-law, Frank and Mickey Potts of Goose Creek, S.C.; sister-in-law, Cindy (Gary) Kelley of Goose Creek, S.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Nancy Marie Joiner
Mrs. Nancy Marie Joiner, 76, of Evans entered into rest on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at Trinity Hospital of Augusta.
Born in Monterey, Calif., Nancy moved to Georgia, after meeting and marrying the late Fred Joiner, who was stationed in San Diego, Calif., serving in the armed forces during the Korean conflict.
Memorial services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, with Rev. Stan Littleton and Rev. Roy White officiating.
Survivors include her daughters, Christine (Steve) Anderson, Wrens, and Vickie (Rusty) Bausch, Atlanta; one sister, Elinor Vann, Fair Oaks, Calif.; three grandchildren, Deena (Brian) Scarborough, Statesboro, Becky (Brandon) Moseley, Statesboro, and Meagan Anderson, Valdosta; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail Scarborough and Amelia Scarborough.

Mrs. Rebecca Dye Knighton
Mrs. Rebecca Dye Knighton, 82, of Nashville, Tenn., entered into rest on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at the Lakeshore Wedgewood Nursing Home, Nashville, Tenn.
Mrs. Knighton was a native of Glascock County and attended elementary and high school in Gibson, then she attended and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in home economics from Georgia College and State University. She was a dietician at the Macon Hospital, Macon, and at the Union University, Jackson, Tenn. She taught elementary school in Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia. She was a social worker for the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, a member and Christian Solider at Mill Creek Baptist Church, and she was a member of the Glascock County Historical Society.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Mill Creek Baptist Church, with Dr. Gary Hadden officiating. Interment was in the Gibson United Methodist Church Cemetery, Gibson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence H. Knighton; and son, Bruce A. Knighton.
Survivors include a daughter, Becky K. Sumrall (Robert); daughter-in-law, Susan Knighton; grandchildren, Clair Young, Abbie Mueller, Lacey Knighton and Vic Knighton; and great-grandchild, Alana Young.
Pallbearers were Lee Griffin, Lane Hadden, Steve Johnson, Michael Todd, Jerry Snider and Joe Dean Usry.

Miss Connie Grace Lumpkin
Miss Connie Grace Lumpkin, 91, of Louisville, formerly of Rome, entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at her residence.
A native of Floyd County, Miss Lumpkin was born on June 13, 1918, the daughter of the late Paul and Mabel Formby Lumpkin. She had been a resident of Louisville since 1999 having moved there from Rome. Miss Lumpkin was a member of the Hollywood Baptist Church of Rome and attended the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera. Prior to her retirement she was associated with Pepperell Manufacturing of Lindale.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley’s Funeral Home, Rome, with Rev. Donald Lumpkin and Brian Lumpkin officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of Wax Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a brother, Rev. Donald Lumpkin (Joan) of Louisville; six nieces and nephews, David Lumpkin of Statesboro, Russ Lumpkin of Augusta, Sharon Tomlinson of Swainsboro, Tim Lumpkin of Louisville, Nancy Sharpe of Rome, and Alice Mathis of Raleigh, N.C.; 15 great-nieces and –nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Pallbearers were David, Russ, Tim, Brian and Jonathan Lumpkin, and Randy and Charlie Miller.

Mrs. Emma Jane Massa
Mrs. Emma Jane Massa, 89, of Baxter, Tenn., entered into rest on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Masters Health Care Center in Algood.
She was born April 14, 1920, in Wrens, to the late John Albert and Hannah James Gay. Mrs. Massa lived all of her single life in Wrens and graduated from Wrens High School. She married
Hulon Alton Massa in July 1949 in Louisville, and then moved to Baxter, where she made her home until her death. Mrs. Massa was a Christian and a member of Bethlehem Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Baxter Funeral Home. Burial was in Boiling Springs Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband; five siblings, Grover, Rebie, Marion and Willis Gay, and Lula Cave.
Survivors include one son, Eric D. Massa; five sisters, Macy Maddox, Marie Holley, Ruby Fielder Thompson, Myra Wheeler and Margie Blackmon; and two brothers, Arthur J. Gay Sr. and William Louis Cave Jr.

Mrs. Mary Estelle Bell Raulerson
Mrs. Mary Estelle Bell Raulerson, 79, of Wrens entered into rest on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta.
Born in Warren County, Mrs. Raulerson graduated from Wrens High School and attended the University of Georgia. She married
Thurman Raulerson and lived in Atlanta until his death. She then moved back to Wrens with her two young girls.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Larron Pilgrim officiating. Interment followed at the Long Creek Baptist Church cemetery, Warrenton.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and parents, Mary Shelton and John Clinton Bell.
Survivors include her two daughters, Carolyn Ann Raulerson and Brenda Raulerson; and six first cousins, Lucy Borders McCorkle, Thomson, Ethel Borders Harris, Washington, Jack Borders, Louisville, Lonnie Bell, Columbia, S.C., Perry Bell, Milledgeville, Ralph Bell, Moultrie, and James Bell, Gallatin, Tenn.

Mr. Jack C. Young
Mr. Jack C. Young, 82, of Thomson entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, in the Thomson Health and Rehab.
Mr. Young was a lifelong resident of McDuffie County. He was retired from National Homes as a quality control worker. He was a member of Young Memorial United Methodist Church.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Fox.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy Ashmore, Thomson; son, Scott Allen Young, Thomson; three sisters, Sue Rabun, Stapleton, Bobbi Holloway and Edith Poe, both of Thomson; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Brenda Gail Turner Roche’
Mrs. Brenda Gail Turner Roche’, 54, entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Roche’ was born Aug. 6, 1955, in Wadley. She was the fifth child and second daughter of Isiah and Doris Harris Turner. She graduated from Flint Southwestern High School in 1973. She attended the Flint Police Academy, the Army Reserve for three years and cosmetology school in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mrs. Roche’ was a member of New Creation Church of God, where she sang in the choir. She worked for the Flint Public Schools for 28 years, starting as a bus driver, working her way to custodial supervisor. She also was actively involved in committees.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at 2 p.m. at New Creation Church of God, and on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Pinola Church of God, Wadley. Internment was in Pinola Church of God Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her father, Isiah Turner; and sister, Minnie Loraine Turner.

Mr. Gary Allen Anderson, 55, of Graniteville, S.C., entered into rest on Jan. 13, 2010.
Mr. Anderson was a native of Augusta having made Graniteville his home for the past 31 years. He was a member of Midland Valley First Church of the Nazarene, president and founder of Little Horse Creek American Indian Cultural Center, member of The Valley Alliance and employed by Sanders Transportation.
Funeral services for were held on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Midland Valley First Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. David Creel and Rev. Penny Duncan officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memory Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy W. Mrs. Thelma Anne Bragg
Mrs. Thelma Anne Bragg, 70, of Dallas entered into rest on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.
A longtime resident of Cobb County, Mrs. Bragg was employed as a substitute teacher for the Cobb County School System. She was a member of the Orange Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at the Carmichael Funeral Home Chapel in Smyrna, with Rev. Barry Holland officiating. Burial was in Crest Lawn Memorial Park cemetery in Atlanta.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Bragg.
Survivors include her daughter, Josephine Holly Holland of Marietta; brother, Drew Davie Christner (Priscilla) of Boston, Mass.; grandson, Barry W. Holland Jr. of Marietta; mother-in-law, Pearlie Maude Bragg of Louisville; and brother-in-law, Bill Bragg of Louisville.
