Vernon Eugene "Gene" Lemonds, age 79, of Social Circle, died on March 16, 2016. He was born in Walton County on September 2, 1936 to Maggie Peters Lemonds and Lee Lemonds. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Sara Knight Lemonds; and his daughter, the late Genie Lemonds. He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Vickie and Jerry Bailes of Gainesville; sisters and brother in law, Shirley and Charles Titshaw of Braselton, Margie Kilgore of Eatonton; grandchildren, Wes and Darla Dobbs; and great grandchildren: Gavin Dobbs, and Anslea Dobbs. Funeral services were Friday, March 18, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with Rev. Milton Wood and Jim Berry officiating. Interment followed at Social Circle City Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Lowry
Dorothy G. Lowry, age 90, of Monroe, died on March 15, 2016. She was born in Clem, GA on April 6, 1925 to the late Vassie Nix Godbee and the late Robert T. Godbee. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late William H. Lowry, Sr, and by her son, the late William H. Lowry, Jr. Surviving are: daughter and son in law, Durinda and Brad Whitlock; sons and daughter in law, Terry L. Lowry, Robby and Raeanne Lowry; sister, June Gillespie; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. A visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016. The visitation will be from 10:0 0 am until 12:00 pm and the Funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Samuel Monroe Christie
Samuel Monroe Christie, 93, our beloved father, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 in Social Circle, GA. His wife of 71 years, Sibyl Lemonds Christie, was by his side at the time of his death. He was a WWII Merchant Marine veteran and retired from General Motors. He is survived by his wife, daughter Alicia Christie Bailey, son in law Bob, sons, Thomas Christie, Jay Christie, daughter in law Michelle, daughter in law, Vickie Christie, and was preceded in death by his son, William (Bill) Robert Christie. He leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Our family would like to thank Felisa Hill for her faithful caring of him these last 4 years. His life will be celebrated at Social Circle United Methodist Church on April 17, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Social Circle United Methodist Church or Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.

Frances Ruby Poss
Frances Ruby Poss of Martinez, GA passed away on April 4, 2016. Ruby was the daughter of the late Cleveland Parks Young and the late Ludie Mae Young; wife of the late Lieutenant Colonel Harold Poss; and mother of the late Robert Poss. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Paula Poss of Martinez, GA; Steve and Bette Poss of Newnan, GA; Sue Poss of North Myrtle Beach, SC; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A graveside service was held at the Good Hope Christian Church cemetery on April 8, 2016 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Ruby be made to the Monroe First Christian Church on 206 South Hammond Drive, Monroe, GA 30655.

Mary Alice Peters
Mary Alice Peters died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Clearview Medical Center in Monroe, GA. She was a native of Morgan County, but lived most of her life in Monroe, GA. She was the daughter of the late Hoyt Stephens, and the late Lucille Jenkins Stephens. She was retired from the Bank of Madison in Madison, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Bobby Joe Peters, Sr. ; brothers, the late Randy Stephens, the late Bo Stephens, the late Hoyt (Shorty) Stephens, the late Chester Stephens, the late Dan (Broadeye) Stephens, the late Billy Stephens; and sister, the late Ann Stephens Morris. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Jeff and Michelle Peters; daughter, Kim Yearwood and Jay Darnell; grandchildren, Hunter Yearwood, Levi Darnell, Paige Peters, Jacob Peters; sisters, Angela Chambers of Toccoa, and Helen Parton of Hiwassee. A Graveside service was held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 2:30 pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Don Malcom officiating. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Lurline Jordan
Annie Florence (Lurline) Jordan, age 88 of Monroe, died on May 1, 2016. She was born in Covington on June 7, 1927 to the late Mattie Fitzpatrick Jordan and the late Emory Jordan. She was preceded in death by her brothers, the late E.C. Jordan, the late Tom Jordan, the late Ned Jordan, the late Charles Jordan; and nephew, the late Tommy Jordan. Surviving are: sister and brother in law, Polly and Milton Harrison of Monroe; sister in law, Toni Jordan of Monroe; nieces and nephews, Marcia Young of Monroe; Dawn Spruiell of Lawrenceville, Christie Johnson of Monroe, Betsy Phillips of Monroe, Tracie Schwebs of Canton, Tina Brown of Senoia; nephews, Aland Jordan of Douglasville, Eric Jordan of Marietta, Larry Jordan of Bostwick, Joey Harrison of Monroe, Darryl Harrison of Atlanta; and many great nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Walker Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Box and Rev. Tommy Pulliam officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Gearin Walker
Frances Marie Walker, age 68, of Forrest Park, died on April 24, 2016. She was born in Atlanta, Ga on July 27, 1947 to the late Mattie Ruth Cawthon Gearin and the late Albert Ernest Gearin. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Jeff Walker. She is survived by daughters and sons in law, Patricia and Doug Clark of Madison, Michelle Alvarez of Forrest Park Kimberly and Israel Peralta of Madison, Lisa and Dale Aaron of Conyers; son and daughter in law, Russell and Malena Walker of Braselton; sisters and brother in law, June Goodwin of Anniston, AL, Jeanette and Grady Ison of Hartwell, Ga; brothers and sisters in law, David and Kaye Gearin of Cannon, Johnny Gearin of Atlanta, Tommy and Debbie Gearin of Dahlonega; 22 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home. Interment followed at Hill Haven Memory Gardens. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Dwight Jeffcoat
Phillip Dwight Jeffcoat, age 68, of Monroe, died on April 18, 2016. He was born in Walton County on May 28, 1947 to the late Lois Roberts Jeffcoat and the late William Marion Jeffcoat. He is survived by his wife, Linda Jeffcoat of Monroe; daughter and son in law, Wendy and Kevin Little of Monroe; son and daughter in law, John and Anne Jeffcoat; sister and brother in law, Nancy and Tommy Vandiver of Good Hope; Brother and sister in law, William and Jimmie Jeffcoat of Griffin; five grandchildren: Adrienne, Katelyn, Preston, and Austin Little, and James Jeffcoat. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with Rev. Rupert Evans and Rev. Danny Sorrells officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Haven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Stephens United Methodist Church. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Grady Henderson
Charles Grady Henderson, age 77, of Social Circle, lost a long battle with Parkinson's disease on April 12, 2016. He was born in Atlanta, GA on February 7, 1939 to the late Alma Louise Parker Henderson and the late William Orin Henderson. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Orin Henderson. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Connie Mitcham Henderson of Social Circle; daughter, Page Henderson of Tucker; son, Jeff Henderson of Social Circle; and several cousins. He was retired from the Georgia State Department of Transportation, after which he worked for Pittman Construction Company of Conyers. He was a kind and gentle man and a faithful member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church at Monroe, GA. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 2:00 pm, at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church at Monroe.

Nancy Vandiver
Nancy Jeffcoat Vandiver, age 73, of Good Hope, died on June 8, 2016. She was born in Walton County on January 21, 1943 to the late Lois Roberts Jeffcoat and the late William M. Jeffcoat. She was preceded in death by her brother, the late Dwight Jeffcoat. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Vandiver of Good Hope; daughter and son in law, Jenny Vandiver Azar and Gordon Azar of Alpharetta; son and daughter in law, Jeffrey and Melissa Vandiver of Good Hope; brother and sisters in law, William and Jimmie Jeffcoat of Griffin, sister in law Linda Jeffcoat of Monroe; and grandchildren, Tanner Burke, Dawson Vandiver, and Carson Vandiver. A Memorial service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with Rev. Branan Thompson officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2016 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at Meadows Funeral Home. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements. Rosemary Thao
Rosemary Thao, 29, died on June 4th, 2016. She was born on September 22nd, 1986 in Fresno, California. She met the love of her life, Jose Guzman, and they were together for 15 years. She gave birth to two wonderful children, Lia Sou Guzman, and Jaden Lia Guzman. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Medical Assistant. Rosemary Thao was a loving mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She was a kind hearted soul and loved her family. She is survived by her husband Jose Guzman, her son Lia Sou Guzman, her daughter Jaden Lia Guzman, her father James Thao, her mother Mai Neng Yang, her brother's Sou Thao, John Thao, Peter Thao, her sister's Xia Mee Thao, and Nancy Thao. She will be truly missed by all, but live on in our memories forever. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, 12, 2016 at 10:30 am in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home. A visitation will follow the service from 11:30am until 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Atha
Mary Elizabeth Atha, age 98, of Monroe, died on June 7, 2016. She was born in Madison, GA on July 3, 1917, to the late Lillie Mae Harper Autry and the late George Autry. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Atha; and her sisters, the late Lois Miller, the late Hazel Thompson; and brother, the late Alva Autry She is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A Graveside service was held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 11:00 am at Resthaven cemetery with Rev. Don Malcom officiating. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Garron Reginald Sorrow, Sr.
Garron Reginald Sorrow, Sr. of Monroe, Georgia died Thursday evening, June 2nd, 2016 at age 66. He was a native of Walton County, having grown up in Social Circle, Georgia. While attending school, he was active in Future Farmers of America, having won awards at local, state, and national levels. He was successful in real estate acreage transactions and was the youngest county commissioner ever elected in the state of Georgia. He retained that office from 1972-1980. Garron was predeceased by his parents Clarke and Naomi Sorrow and his older brother Derrick Clarke Sorrow. He is survived by his three children Reg Sorrow with wife Erica Sorrow of Monroe, Mary Rae Hewatt with husband Dustin of Braselton, and Harry Fridge Sorrow of Lawrenceville. He was a loving grandfather to Lillie Rae and Clara Hewatt and Gisele and Cash Sorrow. Also surviving Mr. Sorrow are his nephews Blain Sorrow and Derrick Sorrow and their children. A memorial service celebrating his life was held at 1:00 pm, June 6, 2016 in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Allyne Harris Brown
Allyne Harris Brown, of Monroe, 99, died, May 31, 2016, in Sandy Springs, GA. She was born October 12, 1916, in Columbus, GA to Aubrey and Nella Richardson Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 64 years, Julian Emerson Brown, Sr; son, Julian Emerson Brown, Jr; sister, Helen Harris Pass, and brother Aubrey Holt Harris and sister-in-law, Dottie Harris. She graduated from Cordele High School in 1933, and she went off to the University of Georgia as a 16 year old where she met Julian Brown whom she married in 1937. They moved to Monroe in 1947 where Julian worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service. She taught school in Monroe both as a classroom teacher and as a reading specialist. She was very active in their childrenâ??s school and extracurricular activities as well as in their church, First United Methodist in Monroe. She was a gifted pianist who went from room to room on Sunday mornings playing for the Sunday School classes. She enjoyed flower arranging, canasta, and bridge. She played bridge with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as friends until her death. She and Julian were avid readers, and she served on the Board of the Walton County Library including the time when the new library was constructed on Spring Street. Since moving to Atlanta after Julianâ??s death, she enjoyed attending musical theatre productions, including two live theatre productions in the past six weeks. As a teacher, as a parent, and a person, she was known for her positive attitude and upbeat approach in all facets of her life. Sweet is a word commonly used in referring to Allyne Brown. She reached out to students and members of the community offering her help. She is survived by her daughters, Judy Brown Shuford (Gene) of Montreat, NC and Sally Brown Rhoden of Marietta, and her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Brown of Colorado Springs; her grandchildren Molly Brown of Atlanta, Amanda Houk (Peter) of Colorado Springs, Scott Shuford (Amy) of Watkinsville, Wynn Shuford (Angela) of Birmingham, Mac Shuford (Kirsten) of Hamilton, VA, James L. Rhoden III (Melissa) of Atlanta, Mitch Rhoden (Lane) of Marietta, Jodi Rhoden (Duncan MacFarlane) of Asheville; great grandchildren Emma and Bethany Houk of Colorado Springs, Andrew, Elle, and Will Shuford of Watkinsville, Corinne and Colleen Shuford of Birmingham, Haley and Jack Shuford of Hamilton, VA, Nora, JR, and Rebecca Rhoden of Atlanta, Henry, Raleigh, and Mack Rhoden of Marietta, and Jasper Rhoden of Asheville. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews as well as loyal caregivers, Patricia Curbella, Precious Johnson, Evelyn Ojuri, Famiza Persaud, Toyin Sule, and Hazelyn Wilson. The funeral will be Saturday, June 4, 2016, at 2:00 pm at Monroe First United Church, Monroe, Georgia, followed by visitation with the family in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will follow at Resthaven cemetery at Spring Street and Madison Avenue in Monroe. Pallbearers are her grandsons, Scott, Wynn, and Mac Shuford, Jay and Mitch Rhoden, and great-grandsons, Andrew, Will, and Jack Shuford, Henry and Raleigh Rhoden, Jasper Rhoden and JR Rhoden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Monroe, 400 S. Broad Street in Monroe, 30655. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc., 760 Ga Hwy 11, Monroe is in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Thompson
Linda Thompson, of Monroe, died on May 28, 2016. She was born in Monroe, GA to the late Arthur Anderson and Olivia McIntosh Anderson. She is survived by her husband, Doug Thompson of Monroe; cousins, Harriette Still of Good Hope, GA, Patty Barwick of Good Hope, GA, and Sylvia Doster of Monroe, GA. A visitation was held on Monday, May 30, 2016. Funeral services began at 11:00 am on May 31, 2016 in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home. Interment followed at Lawnwood Memorial Park located in Covington, GA. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Larry Thomas
Larry Lamar Thomas, age 76, of Monroe, died on May 28, 2016. He was born on July 28, 1939 to the late Evelyn Davis Thomas, and the late Larry Lipton Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Thomas of Monroe; sons and daughter in law, Brad and Terrie Thomas of Monroe, Mike Thomas of Monroe; sister, Elaine Patrick of Winterville; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Funeral services were Monday, May 31, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home, with Rev. Russell Davis officiating. Interment followed at Thomas Family Cemetery. Fred Barrett
Frederic (Fred) Lee Barrett, of Monroe, died on May 20, 2016. He was born in Logan, West Virginia to the late Hollene Goodman Barrett and the late Jack Barrett. He is survived by his wife, Mary Barrett of Monroe; daughter and son in law, Lynn and Nabil Chabayta of Douglasville; sons and daughters in law, Kevin and Karen Barrett of Monroe, Johnny and Paige Barrett of Monroe, Freddy Couch of New Jersey; 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. A visitation and memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 5:00 pm and the Memorial service will begin at 5:00 pm in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy Malcom
Jimmy Knight Malcom, age 66 of Social Circle, died on May 20, 2016. He was born in Monroe on October 6, 1949 to the late James Hester Malcom and the late Sybil Knight Malcom. He was preceded in the death by his brother, the late Terry Malcom, and his sister, the late Marie Malcom Robinson. Surviving are: Wife: Connie Malcom of Social Circle; Daughters and Sons in Law: Kacey and Jason Malcom of Monroe, Kim and Will Jackson of Monroe, Brittni and Alvin Brown of Monticello; Sister and Brother in Law: Sandra and Scott Youngblood of Madison; Brothers and Sister in Law: Don Malcom of Social Circle, Dan and Nancey Malcom of Social Circle; Grandchildren: Reese and Tripp Malcom, Kayla, Kacie, and Kalie Jackson, Adasyn and Bristol Brown and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday May 23rd at 2:00 P.M. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Pastor Don Malcom and Jerry Chambers officiating. Interment followed at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.
