Gertrude Chastain
Gertrude (Hansford) Chastain transcended from this life in a peaceful state on July 7, 2016 at the age of 93. She was born on May 23, 1923 to C. H. and Ada Hansford. She was married on April 12, 1944 to William Allen Chastain. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband and her children: Ricky, Roy, Charles and Perry Chastain. During her life, she was a very involved mother and grandmother. She was a devoted Christian and attended church services and served her church faithfully until she was unable to do so. Additionally, she was an active member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary's Chapter 16 and served as Commander, Secretary, and other positions until she was unable to do so. She gave Walton County many community hours and the Veterans Administration in Atlanta, GA many volunteer hours. She was awarded with numerous certificates and medals to put on her precious D.A.V. cap that she wore so proudly. Surviving are children: Mildred and Jack Hollidge, Joann and Charles Morris, Billy and Martha Chastain, Peggy and Stan Brown, Jimmy Chastain, and Faye and Lee White and a host of loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. As she aged, she began to ask everyone except her children and relatives to call her "Granny". Granny was a very spirited and generous person. She created very special bonds with the people surrounding her. She supported and spent quality time with her family and friends at every opportunity. She was a very tenderhearted peacekeeper. Her journey has taken her to an everlasting place of rest and peace. Her spirit will shine for generations to come through those she leaves behind. Funeral services will held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Ross Chapel Church with Pastor Steve Powers officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Mr. Raymond Fambrough will serve as the Honorary Pallbearer. Pallbearers are: Phillip Looney, Josh Mallory, Stan Chastain, Junior Chastain, Wayne Waters, and Timmy Rutledge.

Floyd Allen Mills
Floyd Allen Mills, age 84, of Covington, died on July 5, 2016. He was born in Macon, GA on March 16, 1932 to the late Mattie Cleo Cox Mills and the late Walker Hines Mills. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Helen Christine Holt Mills. Mr. Mills was a Sergeant in the US Army and a veteran of the Korean War. He enjoyed time with his family, and restoration of antique radios, watches, and clocks. He is survived by his daughters and son in law, Diane McKenzie of Monroe, Debra and Ronnie Massey of Covington; grandchildren, Brandi Quinton and husband, Jacob Quinton, Sr, Melinda Key and husband, Brian Key, Chuck Veal, Jacob Massey, Marilee Massey; great grandchildren, Jacob Quinton, Jr, and Walker Key. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Corinth Christian Church cemetery with Pastor Jordan Flores officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation at 1250 4th St. Santa Monica, CA 90401. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Ron Holloway
William Ronald Holloway, "Ron" was born on February 6, 1930, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Dr. Judson B. Holloway and Thelma Shelton Holloway. He died June 30, 2016 after a long illness. He was a graduate of Harding High School in Marion, OH, Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. After college he served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He earned a Masters Degree in Religious Education at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, where he met his future wife. He served Southern Baptist churches as Minister of Education for 28 years and then served 13 years as Assoc. Dir. of Missionary Personnel at the Home Mission Board in Atlanta of the Southern Baptist Convention. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, golfing and being with family. He is predeceased by his parents, step-mother Doris Stansbury Holloway, brother Arthur S. Holloway (Ruth), sister June Holloway Sanders (Harold)and son John Arthur Holloway, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Roemelle S. Holloway, Monroe, GA; daughter Ronda F. Holloway, Monroe, GA; daughter-in-law Elena Holloway Lamar (Al), ; granddaughter Gloria Holloway, grandson John Arthur Holloway, Jr. all from Thomson, GA: step-granddaughter Amber Lamar Ezzyk (Eric) and step-great-grandson Ethan Ezzyk, Grovetown, GA; and step-granddaughter Nikki Lamar, Thomson, GA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Missions Fund of First Baptist Church, PO Box 351, Monroe, GA, 30655 or the American Cancer Society. A Visitation will be held at Meadows Funeral Home on Sunday, July 3rd, from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Monroe. Meadows Funeral Home, Monroe, GA is in charge of arrangements.

Bill Land
William Francis "Bill" Land, Jr, age 74, of Social Circle, died on June 29, 2016. He was born in Gibson, GA on July 20, 1941 to the late Daisy May Abner Land and the late William Francis Land, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Sarah Land, and by his son, the late Ty Land. Surviving are: daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie and Richard Augusto of Green Bay, WI, Debbie Lynn and Byron Clotfelter of Winston, Phyllis and Jerry Laster of Waterloo, SC, Elaine and Dave Botino of Ackworth, Charlene Cartledge of Ackworth, Kay and Greg Adcock of Social Circle; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Madge Land of Thomson; 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11:00 am at Union Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Fish, Rev. Roger Canuel, and Rev.Charles Land officiating. Interment followed at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

Greg Hickman
Raymond Gregory "Greg" Hickman, age 66 of Monroe, Georgia died on June 18, 2016. Greg was born in Tifton, Georgia on June 30, 1949 to the late Marguerite Chambliss Hickman and the late Raymond Dexter Hickman, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Freeman Hickman and their daughters; Leah Hickman Ferguson (William D. Ferguson), Lindsey Ellen Hickman (Jon Paul Davis), Lauren Elaine Hickman (Joel F. Ross) and grandson, William Gregory Ferguson. A graduate of the University of Georgia's College of Pharmacy, Greg was the proud owner of Carmichael's in Monroe and Covington. He loved serving his community by providing the best possible care to his customers. Greg was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who most enjoyed spending time with his family. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Meadows Funeral Home (www.meadowsfuneralhomeinc.com) in Monroe, Georgia. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, June 23rd at 2pm at the First Baptist Church of Monroe. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Walton County, the Emory University Winship Cancer Institute's Leukemia Fund-APL PROGRAM, or the First Baptist Church of Monroe.

Lonnie Williams, of Madison, GA, died on June 19, 2016. He was born in Nicholsville, VA, on October 14, 1940 to Rev. William Henry Williams and Ora Myrtle McCarty Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Mae Skeens Williams. He is survived by his children: Ray Williams of Columbia, SC, Carolyn Peters of Madison, Tommy and Linda Williams of Social Circle; siblings, Irene Fields of Big Stone Gap, VA, Georgia McCloud of Gate City, VA, Yvonne Viney of Kingsport, TN, Randy Williams of Laurens, SC; half siblings, Rose Cooper of Colonial Heights, TN, Kelsie Minnick of Lynn Garden, TN; grandchildren, Allen Peters, Andrew Williams, Lauren Peters, Whitney Williams, Dakota Williams, Hunter Williams; and great grandchildren, Aubrey Peters, Easton Meeks, Beau Peters. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Jersey Holiness Church with Rev. Lynn Head and Rev. Randell Allgood officiating. Interment followed at Jersey Holiness Church Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph Clower
Ralph Clower Ralph Edward Clower, age 59, of Monroe, died on June 13, 2016. He was born in Portsmouth, VA on March 9, 1957 to the late Janet Messer Clower and the late Donald Clower. He is survived by his wife, Diane Clower of Monroe; sons, Thomas Clower of Gloucester, VA, Ralph Range of Monroe, Duane Range of Monroe; sisters and brothers in law, Mary and Steve Howell of Suffolk, VA, Diane and George Satterfield of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Chris Clower of Jacksonville, FL, Milton Clower of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Andrew Range, and Rayce Range. A Visitaton will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Meadows Funeral Home from 12:00 pm - 2:00pm and from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Timothy Hart
Timothy Wayne Hart, age 36, of Monroe, died on June 13, 2016. He was born in Tucker, GA on February 20, 1980 to Marie and Tommy Hart. His career began as a personal trainer. After finding a passion for Muay Thai Fighting, he became a professional Muay Thai and MMA fighter. His career included eight amateur fights, three professional Muay Thai fights, which included one international fight. He also was a black belt in Japanese Jujitsu and he was nominated for the 2009 Trainer of the Year in Georgia. He owned gyms: Bulldog Kickboxing, Georgia Fight Club which was nominated for 2009 Gym of the year, and his most recent project, Hart Fit Kickboxing. He was devoted to spreading the art of Muay Thai to anyone who wanted to learn. He was a loving and devoted husband and father; he was a coach and mentor to many. He is survived by his wife, Andrea Hill of Monroe; parents, Marie and Tommy Hart; son, Lachlan Hart; daughter, Pepper Hart; step daughter, Cora Hill; sisters, Tammy Haney, Tara Strickland; brother, Tommy Hart. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Hart Fit Kickboxing Gym.

Alton Powell
James Alton Powell, age 81, of Monroe, died on June 15, 2016. He was born in Royston, GA on March 10, 1935 to the late Annie Lee Harbin Powell and the late Joseph Powell. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Dorothy Mae Powell, and by his son, the late Tommy Pearson. He is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Cynthia and Emery Cantrell of Monroe, Crystal and Kenneth Hackett of Bethlehem, Patricia and David Neighbors of Calhoun; Sisters, Sara Harper of Winder, Dorothy Crowe of Winder, Faye Page of Winder; brothers and sister in law, Wayne Powell of Winder, Ray and Nettie Powell of Loganville; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. A funeral service was held on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Butler and Rev. Greg Baldwin officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Memory Gardens. Meadows Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Doris Mobley
Doris Annette Mobley, age 81, of Monroe, died on June 14, 2016. She was born in Porterdale, GA on June 17, 1934 to the late Irene and Jewell Stone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Larry Russell Mobley; sister, Norma Jean Johnson; brothers, Jimmy Stone and Pop Stone. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Phil Malcom of Social Circle; grandchildren, Wesley Malcom, Heather Lambert, and Hunter Malcom. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Meadows Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services are to be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Eastview cemetery in Monroe, GA. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas M. "Mell" Richardson
Thomas (Mell) Richardson Sr., age 91 of Monroe, died on August 6, 2016. He was born in Monroe, GA on November 23, 1924 to the late William Thomas Richardson and the late Fanny Netty Malcom Richardson. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Force. Surviving are: Wife: Edna Daniel Richardson of Monroe; Daughters and Sons in Law: Sandra Richardson Malcom and Gerald R. Malcom, Pam Richardson Hayes and Keith Hayes; Son: Thomas (Tommy) Mell Richardson, Jr.; Sister: Agnes Currie; Brother and Sister in Law: Doyle and Jan Richardson; Grandchildren: Tina and Jay Fleming, Tammy and Wayne Bradshaw, Donnie Malcom, Carrie and David Silver, John Richardson, Katie and Kyle Laseter, Marc Hayes, and Todd Hayes; Great Grandchildren: Melisa and Matt McCue, Chris Fleming, Kathryn and Jeff Owens, Bryan Bradshaw, Christina Bradshaw, Makayla Malcom, Christian Malcom, Arden Silver, Jack Silver, Annie Silver, and Luke Silver; Great Great Grandchildren: Ashton Bradshaw, Emily Eberhart, and Addison Eberhart. Funeral Services were held on Monday, August 8th at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with Elder Willie Hatfield officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Memory Gardens. Regina Lee Mitchell, age 52, of Monroe, died on August 3, 2016. She was born on August 2, 1964 to the late Mary Joyce Cobb Phelps and the late Roy Gene Phelps. She is survived by her husband, Ricky Mitchell of Theodore, AL; son, Donald Irvin of Biloxi, MS; brother, Andy Phelps of Theodore, AL. Kathy Richardson Katherine Claude Richardson, age 63, of Madison, died on July 31, 2016. She was born in Glen Cove, NY on November 7, 1952 to the late Marie Estelle Reyling Robinson and the late Kenneth William Robinson. She is survived by her husband, Tommy Richardson of Madison; daughters and sons in law, Carrie and David Silver of Glenside, PA, Katie and Kyle Laseter of Cumming; son, John Richardson of Villa Rica; brothers and sister in law, Ken and Betty Robinson of Monroe, GA, Ted Robinson of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Arden Silver, Jack Silver, Annie Silver, Luke Silver. Jim Lee Beasley
Jim Lee Beasley, age 69, of Monroe, died on July 30, 2016. He was born in Soperton, GA on August 24, 1946 to the late John Ezra Beasley and the late Mollie Gillis Beasley. He was a Sergeant in the US Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam. He earned his Bachelor of Education from Georgia Southern and his Masters of Education from the University of Georgia. He taught Drafting at Monroe Area High School from 1980-2002. He was also an ordained deacon at Monroe First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Vivian Hammond Beasley of Monroe, sister, Linda Martin of Milledgeville; brothers Bobby and Marty Beasley of Macon, GA and Wayne Beasley of Macon, GA. and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 12:00 PM at the Monroe First Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Ware officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Meadows Funeral Home. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, GA. Dora Lorine Staton, age 84 of Monroe, died on July 31, 2016. She was born in Hoschton, GA on November 2, 1931 to the late Julian Stepp and Mabel Hogan Stepp. She was preceded in the death by her husband, the late Frank A. Staton; step-children, the late Evelyn Medlock and the late Frankie Staton. Surviving members of her family are; daughter, Frances L. Staton of Monroe, GA; step-daughter, Dorothy Gravitt of Ashland, Virginia; step-sons, Tony A. Staton, Sr. of Monroe, GA, John E. Staton, Sr. of Monroe, GA; nieces, Barbara Stenback of Delray Beach, FL, Charlene Mott of Sunrise, FL; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; loving friends, Diane Potter and Joyce Kaplan.
