He is survived by wife Helen Gowens, Steinhatchee, FL; daughters, Denise & Alan Green, Snellville, GA, Karen & Ray Cheponis, Hoschton, GA; sons, Guy & Deb Gowens, Tallahassee, FL, Robert & Jil Gowens, Grayson, GA; sister Deborah & Mike Griffin, Lexington, SC; brothers, Jerry & Georgia Gowens, Loganville, GA, Jim & Patsy Morris, Lilburn, GA, 7 grandchildren & 4 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Linda Pye, age 71 of Conyers, died Saturday, August 20, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Pye. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Elizabeth Pye, Conyers; daughters, Angelia L. Banks, Atlanta, Michelle Pye, Conyers; grandchildren, Randy Smith, Amanda Pye; great-granddaughter, Lexie Smith; brothers and sister-in-law, Charles Capes, Jasper Co., Jerry and Penny Capes, Conyers; sister, Willie Dean Payne, Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews. James T. Duncan
May 11, 1923 - August 11, 2011
James (Jim) T. Duncan, age 88 of Covington, GA, died Thursday, August 11, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Carol Duncan, Covington; son, Greg & Carol Duncan, Chino Hills, CA; step-daughter, Leslie & Freddie Fantauzzi, Covington; step-son, Billy McCullough, Russellville, KY; grandchildren, Jeff & Julie Duncan, Lauren & Macy Eatherly, Chloe & Ryan McCullough and great-grandchildren Lucas & Lily Eatherly. He is also survived by sisters, Barbara Smith, Shirley Towe, Joyce Green, Betty Motley and Jan Eatherly, all of Bowling Green, KY; brother, Jack Duncan, Deary, ID. Jim was a retired crane operator and worked on the Alaskan Pipe Line, as well as off-shore oil platforms in California. He was a proud WWII Veteran in the European Theater and was a member of General Patton’s Third Armor Division, 277th Field Artillery Battalion. Up until a few years ago, Jim enjoyed traveling to California and made annual trips to Wyoming to go elk hunting. He was also a great enthusiast of fishing and trail riding. Jim will be greatly missed for his “colorful” stories of times past and his love for his family. No formal funeral services will be held at his request. Mr. William A. (Bill) Russell, age 84 of Conyers, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Vivian F. Russell, Conyers; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Charles Cross, Douglas, Norma and Laurin Clements, Decatur; son and daughter-in-law, W. Allan and Lisa Russell, Covington; grandchildren, Todd Cross, Wendy Caul, Amy Rowell, Wesley Russell, Nikki Armenia; 6 great-grandchildren. Mr. Russell was a member of Conyers First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Conyers First United Methodist Church, 921 N. Main Street, Conyers with Dr. John Beyers and Rev. Dan Brokaw officiating; interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge. Stella Louise O'Bryant
March 12, 1946 - August 20, 2011
Stella L. O'Bryant, beloved daughter of John F. Maddox and the late Carrie Mae Maddox went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, August 20, 2011. Stella is survived by her daughters, Tammy Matthews of Loganville, GA and Tonya McLaughlin of Cumming, GA, their respective husbands, David and Jamie; as well as 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brothers, Steve Maddox of Lawrenceville, GA and Bobby Maddox of Monroe, GA., their respective wives, Gayle and Judy; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, James Maddox. The body will be cremated. A memorial service to celebrate her life is planned for Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Victorious Life Church, www.vlcog.com 1615 Old McDonough Hwy., Conyers, GA 30094. Mr. Rufus "Buck" Adams, age 71 of Conyers, died Wednesday, August 24, 2011. He is survived by his friend, Barbara Barrentine; sons, Tony Adams, Timmy Adams, Teddy Adams; daughter, Debra Payne; granddaughters, Ashton Clair, Amanda Clair; sister, Rose Devore; brother, Gerald Adams. Mr. Adams was a Seaman Recruit in the United States Navy on a U S S submarine and served in Vietnam. He was a life-time member of the V.F.W. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 26, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. Nolan Jackson officiating; interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Eudez Ellington Cowan, age 87 of Conyers, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Herman Cowan. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Scarlett and Randy Prater, Eatonton, Gail and Mark Stoltz, Conyers; grandchildren, Greg and Sherry Prater, Covington, Sid and Ashley Stoltz, Decatur, Jason and Angel Stoltz, Covington; 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cowan was a member of Rockdale Baptist Church. She worked for Bell Aircraft Corporation and Pacific Apparel Clothing. Miss Mary E. Waters, age 85 of Huntsville, AL, formerly of Milstead, GA, died Friday, November 11, 2011. She was a retired inventory control manager with Redstone Arsenal. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Lorene Waters; sister, Sara Moon; and brother, Lonnie Miles Waters. She is survived by her sister, Charlotte Henderson, Loganville; 6 nieces and nephews; numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Miss Waters enjoyed working at the Boys and Girls Club, teaching English as a second language, GED classes, and sewing classes. She was employed with the U. S. Government for 42 1/2 years, serving 20 years at the Atlanta General Depot at Fort Gillem. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Huntsville, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Milstead Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Walker and Rev. Doug Craver officiating; interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Lillian Forrest, age 97 of Loganville, died Friday, November 11, 2011. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ken Stokes, Loganville; sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Nancy Johnson, Orlando, FL., Douglas Johnson, Alto, TX; brothers, Marion, George, Joe, and Larry Whitten; grandchildren, Shari & Greg Henderson, Rick & Mendy Collier, Kenny & Tracy Stokes, Tony & Becky Stokes, Kelly & Art Ayris, Holly Spivey, Doug Jr., Everett, Karen Ann, Heather, David, Kathryn, Jason, & Aaron Johnson. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Mrs. Forrest was born in Oklahoma, also lived many years in Idaho, and moved to Duluth, Ga. in 1979, then to Conyers area in 2002. Mrs. Forrest was an active member of Bethel Christian Church of Conyers. Thora Guinn Davis
August 17, 1930 - November 14, 2011
Mrs. Thora Guinn Davis, age 81 of Stockbridge, died Monday, November 14, 2011. She was preceded in death in 1999 by her husband, Charles L. Davis. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, C. Lamar and Diana B. Davis, Winston-Salem, N.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, T. Eleanor Davis and Don Meyer, Conyers, Mary and Mike Farmer, Eatonton; grandchildren, Caroline and Gordon Davis, Winston-Salem, N.C., Jarred and Tessa Farmer, Eatonton, Jordan and Stephanie Farmer, Stockbridge, Charlie Max Farmer, Eatonton; great-grandchild, Raylan Farmer, Eatonton. Thora was born in Witcha Falls, TX and came to Atlanta with her family in 1948. She remained a proud Texan her entire life. She graduated from the Atlanta campus of the University of Georgia (now Georgia State) in 1955 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Thora and Charlie married in 1958. She was a Christian and devoted member of Kirkwood Baptist Church which later became Rainbow Park Baptist Church. In recent years, she worshiped at Union United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. Wallace Wheeles officiating; interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta. Family will receive friends Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Union United Methodist Church, Stockbridge, GA.
