Ezekiel Roy Lambert

Roy Lambert lived in the house on North Main Street in Madison where he was born. With the exception of service in the United States Navy during World War II (1942-1946), and while he was getting a college education, his life was centered in Madison and Morgan County.
Willie James Ingram
“Pus Pie”
Willie James Ingram, 85, died February 9, 2008. He was born in Morgan County on May 29, 1922 to the late Mattie Baugh and stepfather, the late Lest Baugh. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ingram and a grandson, Brandon Tolbert.
Taylor Jeaux Kinchen
Taylor Jeaux Kinchen of Morgan County, passed away on January 21, 2008, of complications from cancer. She was six years old.
Taylor lived in the community of Godfrey all her life, and attended Morgan County Primary School, where she would have been a first-grader. She enjoyed playing soccer and spending time with her two older sisters, Shelby, 12, and Kourtney, 10, and she loved listening to Elvis Presley songs on her green iPod. She and her family attended St. James Catholic Church in Madison.
Julia Jones
Julia Jones, 89, of Rutledge died Monday, January 28, 2008. She is the daughter of the late Jim and Lizzie Brumbelow Stinchcomb. She was retired from Barrow Mfg. Company and was a member of Carl Baptist Church.
She was married
to the late P. T. Reynolds Turnbull who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Griffeth of Winder and Patsy Adams of Rutledge; a son, Jerry Turnbull of Winder; a sister, Mae Jenkins of Rutledge, six grandchildren, and nine grandchildren.
Linda E. Williams
Linda Evelyn Williams, 58, died January 12, 2008. She was born April 23, 1949, one of 12 children of Howard and Neufalla Williams. She attended Pearl High School and graduated with honors in 1968. After graduating from high school she moved to Los Angeles, California, where she was employed with the United States Postal Service as a mail clerk. She recently retired as a Registry Clerk after serving for 37 years.
She was married
to Johnny Earl Williams on July 28, 1979.
Sallie Mae Pettigrew
Sallie Mae Pettigrew, 97, died April 24, 2008. She was the oldest of five children and was born in Madison, Morgan County to the late Dudley and Sarah Peters on October 1, 1910.
She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and served faithfully until her health declined. She was president of the Missionary, sang in the choir, was a Sunday school teacher, a member of BTU Convention, Baptist Association and the Fifth Sunday Missionary Auxiliary.
She was married
to Clarence Pettigrew Sr. who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her children, Eugene, Larry, Johnny, Clarence II, Mary and Gladys.
She is survived by two daughters, Marie (George) Parker and Doris Ross of Detroit, Michigan; two sons, Joseph Pettigrew Sr. of Atlanta and Jeffery Sr. (Barbara) Pettigrew of Decatur; sister-in-law, Velvarose Pettigrew of Riverdale; cousins, Lillie Johnson and Irene Gordon of Madison; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other cousins; the Greater Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church Family, Campbellton Road, caretakers and a host of other family members and friends.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. W. J. Reid, pastor officiating assisted by Rev. Michael Ross, Minister Barbara Pettigrew and Rev. Jimmy Smith. Interment was in Springfield Society Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mark Pettigrew, Jeffery Pettigrew Jr., Marlin Parker, Steve Pettigrew, Trent Pettigrew and Joseph Pettigrew II. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Pettigrew II, Danny Pettigrew, Torrey Pettigrew, Adam Ross, Jerryal Pettigrew, Michael Ross II, Tim Pettigrew and Clarence Pettigrew III.
Edith Elizabeth Hayes
Edith Elizabeth Hayes, 83, of Madison, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, of Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on October 4, 1924, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Margaret Dorothy Phillips and Oscar Owen Phillips.
After graduation from Girls’ High School in Atlanta, Edith attended West Georgia Junior College and the University of Georgia. She married
Albert E. Hayes, Jr., in 1946; their homes included Baltimore, Maryland; Long Island, New York; and Sunnyvale, California, where they were divorced in 1968.
In 1975, Edith earned a bachelor’s degree in interior design from San Jose State University. A devotee of lifelong learning, she also attended classes in music and art history at Foothill College in Los Altos and DeAnza College in Cupertino, California. She was active for many years in the Snappers, a Bay Area photographers’ group; several of her photographs won awards. Edith moved to Madison, Georgia, in 2001, where she became a member of the Antebellum Garden Club and Madison Artists Guild.
Edith was preceded in death by her beloved companion of twenty-five years, James Franklin Gordon, who died in 1992. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Phillips Ackerly, of Eatonton; her brother, George Robert Phillips, and her sister-in-law, Judy Phillips, of Madison; her son Clark Hayes and daughter-in-law, April Wells-Hayes, of Madison; and her son Douglas Wallace Hayes, of Fremont, California. She also leaves behind a niece, Morgan Ackerly; nephews George Robert Phillips, Jr. (Kathryn Tyra Phillips) and Parker Kim Phillips (Tamara King Phillips); great-nieces Christine Phillips Verikas (Raimondas Verikas) and Lora Ashley Phillips; and great-nephews Austin Parker Phillips, Matthew Thomas Phillips, and Mitchell Avery Phillips.
Willie D. “Dee” Campbell
Willie D. “Dee” Campbell, 77, died Monday, April 14, 2008. He was born May 27, 1930 in Morgan County. His sister, Hattie Mae Burley, preceded him in death.
He was a dedicated employee with several companies. He was a truck driver for McDowell’s, Drew Malcom and Pennington Seed; he retired from Godfrey’s Warehouse and then joined the Morgan County Board of Education as a custodian / school bus driver until his death. He was also a long-time employee of Mapp Funeral Home.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Edwards Campbell; children, Willie (Teresa) Campbell, Dorothy Jean (Charlie) Weaver, Michael (Marie) Campbell, Billy (Roxey) Campbell, Virginia Ann (Sam) Richardson, Richard (Katrina) Campbell, Greg (Rita) Campbell and Reginald Glenn Campbell; 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones in Philadelphia.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 20 at Holland Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. James A. Braswell, pastor officiating. Interment was at Mount Zion Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Union Point police officers and Joe Howard. Flower girls were his granddaughters.

Oscar Thomas Hanson
Oscar Thomas Hanson, known to his friends as “Buddy, ” died April 18, 2008. He was born October 29, 1921 in Madison to the late Renaldo and Kitty Crawford Hanson. He was a 1940 graduate of Madison High School and was married
September 8, 1942 to Beatrice Booth.
Lois Slaughter Whitaker
Lois Slaughter Whitaker, 83, of Mansfield died Sunday, April 13, 2008. She was born September 13, 1924 in Madison to Jacob and Sarah Odum Slaughter. She lived her life here in Morgan County. She married
Mell Whitaker in 1947 and together they raised seven children. Mrs. Whitaker was a homemaker and enjoyed providing for her family. She loved cooking, embroidery, playing the piano and singing.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Mell M. Whitaker and their children, Cecelia Saffold of Greensboro, Melba Peppers and Larry of Covington, Johnny Whitaker and Reba of Madison, Albert Whitaker and Sharon of Rutledge, Alan Whitaker and Sue of Rutledge, Margo Carr and Jeff of Monroe and Doyle Whitaker and Judy of Rutledge; two sisters, Eloise Bowden Long and Jeanette Saffold; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Frank Slaughter and Edmund Slaughter and a sister Virginia Wagnon.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 15 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of A. E. Carter Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Harris officiated.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association.

Miles Daniel Griffith
Miles Daniel Griffith, 53, of Great Falls, a U.S. Navy Veteran and homebuilder, died of brain cancer April 6, 2008 at Peace Hospice.
Memorial Services are planned at a later date.
Anna Mallard Lawton
Anna “Anne” Mallard Lawton, 88, of Madison died Thursday, April 3, 2008. She was born Anna Mallard on July 2, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio to John L. Mallard and Virginia Ebbert Mallard. She was married
to Alfred C. Lawton who preceded her in death. They lived much of their married
life in Winter Park, Florida, where Mrs. Lawton worked in the public school system as a secretary.
The Lawtons moved to Madison in 1990 to be near their daughter and grandsons. While here Mrs. Lawton became active in the Prime Timers and was a member of the Boxwood Garden Club. She was a great cook and enjoyed times spent visiting with good friends and her family.
She is survived by her daughter Brillo Jackson and Hoyt and two grandsons, Parker Jackson and Patrick Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Edith Mallard and DeLoris Mallard, and many friends
A memorial service was held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6 at Madison Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Madison Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Young Life, P. O. Box 1282, Madison, GA 30650.

Lee Hansel Minish
Lee Hansel Minish, 83, died Friday, April 4, 2008. He was born January 14, 1925 to Robert Lee and Claudia Inez Williams Minish in Jackson County. A sister and two brothers preceded him in death. He was a tractor-trailer driver for 40 years with Seaboard and Central Soya where, due to health problems, he retired in 1985.
Jimmy Ray Breedlove
Jimmy Ray Breedlove, 64, of Buckhead died Wednesday, March 27, 2008.
Mr. Breedlove was a member of Swords United Methodist Church in Buckhead.
His parents, Elmer and Eva Mae Breedlove and a brother, Leroy Breedlove, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Lynn and Jeff Brady of Monroe; Dawn and Dusty Holmes of Monroe; grandchildren, Walker and Sawyer Brady; sister-in-law, Shirley Breedlove of Monroe; aunt and uncle, Larry and Dorothy Jones of Winder; and an aunt, Alice Breedlove of Monroe.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at New Hope United Methodist Church of Between. The Rev. Thomas Arnold officiated with interment in the church cemetery.

Alice Martin Freeman
Alice Martin Freeman, 69, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Athens.
She was born in Morgan County, April 15, 1938 to the late Leila Martin.
She is survived by a son, Timothy Martin of Madison; grandchildren, Biaunca Brooks, Delicia Stephens, Quandarius Freeman and a special friend, Bennie Clay;
A son Corey Freeman, a sister Liza Williams and brothers John Martin and Tommie Fuller preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30 at Lower Mosley Chapel Baptist Church, Rutledge with the Rev. G. C. Brown officiating. Interment was in Moses Chapel Church Cemetery.
Flower attendants were Rosa Binion, April Bryant, Ruby Garrett, Eula Reid, Nikki Bryant, and Doris Elder. Casket attendants were Octavious Clarke, Landus Clark, Jarise Giles, Brian Williams, Jesse Harper, Cedric Garrett and Lee Smith Jr.
