J.C. Raley
Mr. J.C. Raley of Jewell died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at the Gibson Rest Home.

Mr. Raley, a lifelong resident of Warren County, was a retired carpenter. He was a member of Jewell Baptist Church.

The funeral was March 19 at 11 a.m. at Jewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Braswell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Raley, Jewell, and Bob Raley, Thomson; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jack Hesson, Jerry Frost, James Beasley, Gene Adkins, Derwin Adkins and Jimmy Kitchens.

Beggs Fuenral Home, Thomson, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth H. Beasley
Mrs. Ruth H. Beasley, 89, of Gibson died Monday, March 25, 2002, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

The funeral was March 27 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Donald Lumpkin and David Davis officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta.

Survivors include one son, Buddy Beasley, Duluth; two daughters, Jennie Hardin, Dublin, and Thelma Coheley, Southside, Ala.; three sisters, Cloise Willioughby, Stapleton, Esteen Bonner, Rock Hill, S.C., and Sara Prescott, Wrens; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Larry Weeks Jr., Byrnie Hardin Jr., Thrumond Bonner, Jesse Huff, Randy Hardin, Brian Hardin, Mike Brittain and Blake Brittain.

Eanon A. Belcher
Mr. Eanon A. Belcher, 69, of Bartow died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in Commerce.

Mr. Belcher, a native of Johnson County, had lived in Bartow all his life. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and from Thermo King where he was a maintenance supervisor.

Graveside services were held March 29 at 2 p.m. at Bartow City cemetery with the Rev. Charles Wallace officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Belcher of Bartow; two sons, Tony Belcher, Bartow, and Don Bartow, Homer; a brother, Dewey Belcher, Gibson; a sister, Shirley Belcher Hodges, Bartow; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Rd., Augusta, Ga. 30904 or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 2625 Cumberland Parkway, Suite 205, Atlanta, Ga. 30339.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

John Willie Freeman Sr.
Mr. John Willie Freeman Sr., 77, of Wrens died Thursday, March 21, 2002.

The funeral was March 27 at Ways Grove Baptist Church, Stellaville, with the Rev. Jimmy McCollough III officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Annie R. Freeman, Wrens; four daughters, Barbara F. Atkins, Louisville, Willie Ruth F. Weston, Wrens, Angela D. Freeman, Alexandria, Va., and Maryanne Thomas, Fairfax Station, Va.; two sons, John W. Freeman Jr., Augusta, and Calvin L. Freeman, Aldie, Va.; one adopted son, Frank Wiggins, Wrens; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ernest "Ernie" Holton
Mr. Ernest "Ernie" Holton, 50, of Waynesboro died Saturday, March 30, 2002.

Mr. Holton, a native and lifelong resident of Burke County, was a former ironworker for Kuhlke Construction Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Rosemary Baptist Church in Millen.

The funeral was April 2 at 1 p.m. at DeLoach Funeral Home chapel, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Henry K. Erwin officiating. Burial was in the Millen City Cemetery.

Survivors include two brothers, Sidney T. Holton, Waynesboro, and Cecil R. Holton, Statesboro; and three sisters, Cecelia Jackson, Louisville, Mary Alice Cunningham, Millen, and Peggy Rollins, Augusta.

Pallbearers were Todd Neville, Jason Pressley, Chris Rollins, Chris Rollins Jr., Bill Dodgen and Joe Fritz.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice Fund, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, Ga. 30904 or to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, VA Hospital, Downtown Division, 1 Freedom Way, Augusta, Ga. 30904.

Walter Donald Mason Sr.
Mr. Walter Donald Mason Sr., 58, of Sautee died Wednesday, March 27, 2002.

Mr. Mason, a native of Lumpkin County, attended North Georgia College and the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. He had worked as a salesman with Stamey Chrysler Jeep in Cleveland. He was a member of Helen First Baptist Church.

The funeral was March 29 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Lumpkin County with Pastor James Holmes officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rose Clark Mason; one daughter, Elizabeth Anne Mason, Dahlonega; five sons, Walter Donald Mason Jr., Clarksville, Phillip Davis Mason, Dahlonega, Eric Christopher Mason, Cleveland, Edward Clark Davis, Smyrna, and Charles Franklin Davis, Cleveland; two sisters, Pauline Toppins, Gainesville, and Versie Mae Cornatzer, Buford; two brothers, Grady Leon Mason, Jacksonville, Fla., and Jerry Lamar Mason, Roswell; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Helen First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 626, Helen, Ga. 30545.

Walter Yarnell Terrell
Mr. Walter Yarnell Terrell, 35, of Kingsland died March 11, 2002, in Camden Hospital.

Mr. Terrell, a native of Jefferson County, served in the United States Marine Corps.

The funeral was March 15 at Georgia Avenue Church of God, Kingsland, with Bishop Arthur Dawson Jr. officiating. Burial was in Waverly.

Survivors include his wife, Ramonia Fuller Terrell; one son, Randall Terrell; two daughters, Raqueata and Ranika Fuller; mother and stepfather, Eveline and Melvine Rhone, Kingsland; four brothers, Randy Terrell, Dwayne Terrell, both of Kingsland, Raymond Terrell, Augusta, and Johnnie Terrell, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Matrica Grant, Lizzie Terrell, both of Tennille, and Amanda Rhone, Kingsland; and his grandmothers, Ethel Riddle, Kingsland, and Lizzie Terrell Roberts, Stapleton.

Pallbearers were Trezzavant Mitchell, Alexander Hopkins Jr., Kevin Speed, Marcus Marritt, Dwyane Terrell and Capic Scendrepp.

Mamie Ausband Boehm Mitchell
Mrs. Mamie Ausband Boehm Mitchell, 94, of Rome died Thursday, March 21, 2002.

Mrs. Mitchell, a native of Rogersville, Tenn., received her B.A. degree in education from Carson-Newman College in 1933 and her M.A. degree in education from the University of Georgia in 1960. She was a teacher, retiring from the Richmond County School System following 20 years as a teacher. Upon her retirement, she served as a Southern Baptist Convention Missionary in Yemen, South Africa and Indonesia and was a former Chairman of Remembrance, Southern Baptist Convention. She was a former President of the Richmond County Retired Teacher's Association and was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Sorority. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of The Hill Baptist Church in Augusta, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and was active in many church programs. She was a member of the Augusta Rose Society. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. T.S. Boehm and her second husband, Dr. Charles H. Mitchell Jr.

Graveside funeral services were held March 24 at 2 p.m. in Highland Cemetery, Rogersville, Tenn. A memorial service was held April 3 at 11 a.m. at The Hill Baptist Church with Dr. J.C. Robinson, Dr. Thomas Kitchen and the Rev. Fred Gunter officiating.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Rome, was in charge of the arrangements.

Karin D. Smith
Karin D. Smith, 37, of Mount Pleasant, Fla. died Thursday, March 7, 2002, in Tallahassee.

Ms. Smith was a 1983 graduate of Wrens High School. She was a veteran of the Navy and a member of Santa Clara Baptist Church.

The funeral was March 9 at 11 a.m. at Santa Clara Baptist Church, Quincy. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Quincy.

Survivors include her parents, Alvin and Juanita Smith, Mount Pleasant; a brother, Terry Allen Smith, Faceville; and two sisters, Joy L. Porter, Sycamore, and Christal Johnson, Faceville.

Independent Funeral Home, Quincy, was in charge of the arrangements.

Onnie Brown Davis
Mrs. Onnie Brown Davis, 93, of Wrens died March 30, 2002.

The funeral was April 5 at 3 p.m. at Stone Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt officiating.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Louise Hines and Christine Polen, both of Wrens, Easter Mae Estes, Irvington, NJ; 51 grandchildren; 99 great-grandchildren and 30 great great-grandchildren.

Wilma Moore Futral
Mrs. Wilma Moore Futral, 89, of Wadley died Tuesday, March 26, 2002.

Mrs. Futral, a native of Emanuel County, was the daughter of the late James Moore and Tabitha Leaptrott Moore. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom Youngblood Futral in 1975.

A memorial service was held April 6 at 2 p.m. at Wadley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Sauls officiating. Burial was in the Parker's Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean Bray, Cave Spring; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Wadley United Methodist Church, 36 Calhoun Street, Wadley, Ga. 30477 or to the Cave Spring United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 305, Cave Spring, Ga. 30124.

Thomas Dixon "Tommy" Godowns
Mr. Thomas Dixon "Tommy" Godowns, 76, of Cope, SC, died Friday, April 5, 2002.

Mr. Godowns, a native of Stellaville, was the son of the late Clinton Jackson Godowns and Corine Dixon Godowns. He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He played baseball in the special services while on active duty. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church.

The funeral was April 7 at Union United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Smoak and Miriam Hadden officiating. Burial was in Old Union Cemetery, Cope.

Survivors include his wife, Aubrey Clark Godowns; sons, Thomas Dixon (Dickie) Godowns Jr., Edward W. (Eddie) Godowns and Clinton J. (Clint) Godowns, all of Cope; a daughter, Sara G. Drews, Great Falls, Va.; brother, Jimmy Godowns, Orangeburg; sisters, Mrs. Ed (Bett) Perdue, Wrens, and Mrs. Mary Frances Thomas, Macon; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Godowns, Wrens.

Active pallbearers were Chuck Baldwin, Cholly Clark, Fred Hewitt Jr., Ed Perdue, Jimmy Rast, Monty Rast, Windfield Shecut and Russell Wolfe.

Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4452 Bamburg Road, Cope, SC 29038.
