Alice Summer Perdue
Mrs. Alice Summer Perdue, 83, of Swainsboro died Friday, June 7, 2002, at Emanuel Medical Center.
Mrs. Perdue, a native of Emanuel County, was a homemaker and a member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Amaranth and the Adam Brinson Chapter of the DAR.
The funeral was June 9 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with the Revs. Clarence Thompson and Morris Brantley officiating. Burial was in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice P. Smith, Wadley; a son, Rev. Erwin Keith Perdue, Rincon; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers were nephews.
Burnice Jackson Jr.
Mr. Burnice Jackson Jr. of Bartow died Monday, June 10, 2002.
The funeral was June 15 at 2 p.m. at Spears Grove Baptist Church, Wadley.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Swinney Jackson; one son, Tyrone Bernard Vining, Dale City, Va.; one sister, Lula Mae Fatal, Belle Glade, Fla.; four brothers, Eddie Willie Passmore, Teaneck, N.J., Leon Jackson, Louisville, Robert Lewis Jackson, Bartow, and Otis Jackson, Dale City, Va.; and three grandchildren.

Mary Wilson Rentz
Mrs. Mary Wilson Rentz, 76, of Lincolnton died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Rentz was a native of Louisville but had lived in Augusta before moving to Lincoln County in 1967. She was a retired assistant manager of the Fort Gordon PX. She was a member of New Work Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. Also, she had served as Director of WMU, Acteens and GA's worker, and past director of VBS.
The funeral was June 15 at 2 p.m. at New Work Baptist Church with the Rev. Deryl Odom officiating. Burial was at Double Branches Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bernard R. Rentz; daughters, Peggy R. Fuller and Mary R. Partridge, Lincolnton; son, Wallace R. Rentz, Lincolnton; brothers, Woodrow Wilson, Darlington, S.C., W.E. "Buddy" Wilson, Florence, S.C.; sister, Peggy McLeod, Florence; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Earnest Lee Smith Jr.
Mr. Earnest Lee Smith Jr., 23, of Grovetown died Saturday, June 15, 2002.
Mr. Smith, a native of Augusta, enjoyed golfing, fishing and loved playing with his son.
The funeral was June 18 at 11 a.m. at the Starling Funeral Home with the Rev. Wiladean Meyers officiating. Burial was in the Poplar Springs Baptist Church cemetery in Portal.
Survivors include his wife, Crystal Lynn Davis Smith; a son, LaShaun Smith; father, Earnest Lee Smith Sr., Grovetown; mother, Betty Gregg, Hephzibah; stepmother, Brenda J. Smith, Grovetown; mother-in-law, Geri Barrios, Grovetown and Athielee Davis, Evans; father-in-law, Philip Barrios, Grovetown; one brother, Phillip Renew, Washington; two sisters, Shannon Leah Fain and Michelle Jane Hopper, Wrens; and several nieces and nephews.

Elliot Delano Smith
Mr. Elliot Delano Smith of Hephzibah died Wednesday, June 12, 2002.
Mr. Smith, a native of Glascock County, was the son of the late Carl and Copeland Smith. He was a retired water treatment operator at Fort Gordon and worked for the City of Augusta for eight years. He was an Air Force Veteran and a member of the Holiness Faith.
Graveside services were held June 14 at 11 a.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Rev. Marion Jay officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Story Smith; two sons, Eric L. Smith and Steven Elliott Smith, both of Hephzibah; one daughter, Marcia E. Smith, Hephzibah; two sisters, Jerry Whitaker, Thomson, and Charlotte Smith, Appling; two brothers, Lyle Smith, Atlanta, and David Smith, Sandersville; and one grandchild.

Robert "Gordon" Smith
Mr. Robert "Gordon" Smith of Warrenville, S.C., died Thursday, June 13, 2002.
Mr. Smith, a native of Gibson, was the son of the late Joseph Hill and Mae Bell Black Smith. He had made his home in Aiken County for the past 75 years. He was a retired supervisor with Graniteville Company, Warren Division. He was of Holiness Faith and was a member of the Woodmen of the World.
The funeral was June 15 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with the Rev. Arthur Zawislak officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Taylor Smith; a daughter, Shirley S. Terrell, Augusta; two sons, William G. "Buddy" Smith, Aiken, and Robert F. Smith, Beech Island; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Matthew Smith, David Smith, Robbie Smith, Doug Silas, Sam Rice, Gerald Britt and James Corley.
Byron Bailey "B.B." Florence Jr.
Mr. Byron Bailey "B.B." Florence Jr., 81, of Wrens died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.
A lifelong resident of Wrens, he was the son of Louise Sturkey Florence and Byron Bailey Florence Sr. He was a member of the Wrens Baptist church, the American Legion and Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He graduated in 1938 from Wrens High School, attended Mercer University and served his country in the 7th Air Force completing 36 bombing missions in the Central and Western Pacific in World War II. He was the manager of the Wrens Coca-Cola Bottling for 25 years, later working for the Georgia Department of Labor until retirement.
A memorial service was held June 23 at 2 p.m. at Wrens Baptist Church with the Rev. Race Lairscy and Dr. Tip Carroll officiating. Burial was in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Harnsberger Florence; a sister, Miriam Ellis, Atlanta; son-in-law, James R. Milton Jr., Keysville; two grandsons, David T. Milton, Dearing, and James W. Milton, Atlanta. He was preceded in death by two children, Byron Bailey Florence III and Susan Florence Milton.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the American Legion.

Lamar Martin
Mr. Lamar Martin, 79, of Louisville died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Heritage Old Capital Nursing Home.
Mr. Martin, a native of Wrightsville, was a member of Louisville Church of God and had retired from Thermo King. He served in the Army in WWII and was a member of V.F.W. in Wrightsville.
The funeral was June 22 at 10:30 a.m. at Louisville Church of God with the Revs. Don King and Coley Cordry Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Wrightsville City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Martin; two sons, Glynn Martin, Perry, and Wayne Martin, Wrightsville; one daughter, Lynn Marchman, Gray; a sister, Susie Herringdine, Wrightsville; and five grandchildren.

Melvis Parrish
Mrs. Melvis Parrish, 90, of Wrens died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Keysville Nursing Home.
Mrs. Parrish, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Mount Horeb Baptist Church.
The funeral was June 20 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Burial was in Mount Horeb Baptist Church cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Bobby L. Parrish, Aiken, SC; one daughter, Joan P. Rhodes, Wrens; one sister, Audrey Russell, Wrens; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ronald Russell, Brantley Vaughn, Jerry Vaughn, R.W. Cook, Tom Marsh and Otis Knipher.

Willie Bostic Jr.
Mr. Willie Bostic Jr. died Thursday, June 13, 2002, in Los Angeles, Ca.
Mr. Bostic, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in California after receiving an Honorable Discharge after serving 35 years for his country. He was a member of the Culver Palms COC's, advisory board member for the W. Los Angeles Police Station, Area Political Actions Committee, Civil Air Patrol and Air Force Sgt. Association.
The funeral was June 22 at 11 a.m. at the St. James AME Church and Magnolia Memorial Gardens, Savannah, with full military honors.
Survivors include his children; Deonn Bostic Stone, Savannah, Heuguette Bostic Vandross and James Bostic, Moncks Corner, SC, U. Belinda Bostic, Seattle, Wa.; his mother, Arniette Hills, Louisville; his siblings, Sylvester Hill Sr., Louisville, Iris B. Lockhart, Augusta, Ruby B. Ervin and Mildred B. Rollins, Fla., Angela B. Galyn D. Shelby
Mr. Galyn D. Shelby, 61, of Lubbock, Tx., died Tuesday, May 28, 2002.
Mr. Shelby, a native of Hollis, Okla., graduated from Amarillo High School and attended Amarillo College and West Texas State University.
He moved to Lubbock from Houston in 1975. He married
Letitia Ann Thomas on Dec. 31, 1965, in Louisville, Ga.
He was a railroad engineer for BNSF for 30 years. He was a member of United Transportation Union, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, BNSF Safety Committee and Trinity Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
A memorial service was held May 31 at Trinity Church in Lubbock with the Rev. Paul Jantzen officiating. Burial was in the city of Lubbock cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Shelby; his mother, Gay Shelby; a son, Stephen D. Shelby of Aijala, Finland; a daughter, Sheryl Gonzales of Lubbock; a sister, Vicki Ward of Amarillo; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Margie M. Newman, 74, of Wadley died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital, Augusta.
A graveside service was held June 23 at 3 p.m. at Wadley City Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Benjamin Newman; a daughter, Phyllis White, Russellville, Ky.; two sons, Bobby Wall, Dallas, Texas, and John Wall, Louisville, Ky.; a stepson, Frankie Newman, Stillmore; a sister, Jama W. Forbes, Acworth; three brothers, Eli Feltner, McDonald, Junior Feltner, Hazard, Ky., and Dewey Fultner, London, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Ethel Snider, Louisville; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
