Mrs. Tweetie Mae Shields, 82, of Wrens died Sunday, July 14, 2002, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Shields was a member of Mount Aldred Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she served on the Stewardess and Missionary Boards
The funeral was July 17 at 2 p.m. at Mount Aldred Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Burial was in Stamp Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Johnnie W. Shields; six sons, Harvey L. (Flory) McNair, Johnnie F. (Dean) Shields, Bunyan A. (Alice) Shields, Wallace H. (Deborah) Shields; three daughters, Evelyn S. Murray, Alma M. Jones and Minnie M. (Ron) Geter; 35 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her sons.

Jimmy Louis Stavely
Mr. Jimmy Louis Stavely, 55, of Wadley died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in Wadley.
Mr. Stavely was born in Belle Glade, Fla., and had lived in Wadley most of his life. He was a United States Army Veteran.
A graveside service was held July 12 at 10 a.m. at Hines Baptist Church cemetery with Pastor Ray Garren officiating. Burial with military honors followed.
Survivors include a son, Trinity Stavely, St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Ada Nell Kunkel, Wadley; two brothers, Ben Stavely, Winter Haven, Fla., and Johnny Stavely, Wadley, and three grandchildren.

Glen William Martin
Mr. Glen William Martin, 65, of Seneca, SC, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Martin, a native of Pickens County, was the son of the late Sloan W. and Reppard M. Martin. He was the retired owner of Jefferson Cable Company of Wrens and a member of Bounty Land Baptist Church.
The funeral was July 24 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Davenport Funeral Home. Entombment was in the Oconee Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Hogan Martin; a daughter, Andrea M. (Robert) Kelly, Seneca; and a sister, Jessie Gosnell, Pelzer, SC.

Celia "Pauline" Hefner
Mrs. Celia "Pauline" Hefner of Evans died Friday, July 19, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Hefner was a retired Civil Service Secretary and a member of the New Hope Worship Center, Grovetown.
The funeral was July 22 at 2 p.m. at Platt's Funeral Home on Crawford Ave., Augusta, with the Revs. Rich Bowen and Larry Cox officiating. Burial was in Westover Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Paul W. Arrington, Wrens, Max T. Arrington, Matthews, and Barry L. Arrington, Evans; two brothers, Henry L. Carter, Martinez, and Pierce H. Carter, Knoxville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren and best friend, Dessie Pate.
Pallbearers were Victor D. Arrington, Tony L. Arrington, James E. Arrington, Bradley D. Arrington, Coby Harrell and Chuck Carter.
Honorary pallbearers were JoAnn Mullis, Esther Reville, Bonnie Sue Waldoch and Brandie Gay.

James Silas Arrington
Mr. James Silas Arrington, 88, of Wadley died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Washington County Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Arrington was a retired carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church. He was the son of the late William Norman and Rosa Arrington.
The funeral was July 29 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Elder Emerson Proctor officiating. Burial was in Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Anna M. Arrington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were nephews Jeff Fennell, Ricky Fennell, David Smith, Gene Arrington, Ernest Arrington Jr. and Billy Arrington.
Geraldine Florence Connally
Mrs. Geraldine Florence Connally, 58, of Mitchell died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.
Mrs. Connally was the owner and operator of Al's Quick Stop and Gerri's Pick-A-Flick. She was a native of Woodland, Wash., and had lived in Warren County for the past 24 years. She was a Methodist and a member of the Eastern Star.
A memorial service was held July 31 at 7 p.m. at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred Hunter Connally; her mother, Florence F. Calvert, Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Chris Connally, Bristol, Tenn., and James Connally, Mitchell; one brother, Dennis Calvert, Wash.; three sisters, Dolly Eals, Chandler, Ariz., Nordi Warren, Salem, Ore., and Pat Valentine, Huntington, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

Samuel Matthias "Sam" Clark
Mr. Samuel Matthias "Sam" Clark, 85, of Louisville died Thursday, August 1, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Clark, a native of Louisville, was the son of the late James William and Mary Dixon Little Clark, also Louisville natives. He attended Louisville public schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army just prior to the beginning of World War II and served an extensive tour of duty in the Pacific Theater. He attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning in Columbus and was stationed for a short time at Camp Wheeler in Macon, but spent most of his tour in the Pacific where he was stationed at Oahu, Hawaii, and saw extensive action in the Marshall Islands, Einewetok, Saipan and Okinawa. He was discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1945 after receiving two Purple Hearts for valor.
Mr. Clark established and operated Clark Hardware in Louisville in 1959 and retired from that business in 1979. Prior to that, he had been an implement salesman for Whigham and Beall in Louisville.
He was a lifelong member of the Louisville United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Barwick Sunday School Class and a former member of the church board. He was a former member of the Jefferson County School Board and a former member of the Louisville VFW Post.
The funeral was Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with pastor Rev. Danny Treadway and former pastor Rev. Emory Gilbert officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Eugenia "Gene" Lee Launius Clark, formerly of Monroe; three sons, Samuel "Sam" M. Clark. Jr. and his wife Mary Margaret, Louisville; J. Dennie Clark and his wife Rebecca, Marietta; and E. Lee Clark and his wife Deborah, Martinez; one sister, Mrs. Robert Casper Walker, Tifton; one brother, Frank Fleming Clark of Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley; eight grandchildren, Jessica Clark Johnson and her husband Bradley, Lafayette, Ind., Samuel Matthias "Matt" Clark III and Cathleen Elizabeth Clark of Louisville, James Russell "Russ" Clark, Sarah Elizabeth Clark, Helen Eugenia Clark and Miller Bradley Clark, all of Marietta, and Catherine Lane Clark, Martinez.
Pallbearers were Roy Hayes, John Willard Davis, Joe Cox, Dr. J.B. Polhill, Clark Hiebert and Harry Gilmore Jr.

Horace Claude Gaston
Mr. Horace Claude Gaston, 87, of Louisville died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at the Jefferson County Hospital.
Mr. Gaston, a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, was a retired timber cruiser. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Louisville and the P.W. Wilson Sunday School Class and the Louisville Lion's Club.
The funeral was Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Louisville, with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Davis Gaston; a son and daughter-in-law, H. Wayne and Christine Gaston, Newport News, Va.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and Harold Burnette, Woodstock, Sandra and Bill McGahee, Louisville, and Brenda and Gene Lyon, Watkinsville; three sisters, Daisy Farrer, Nell Creech and Edna Gaston, all of Moxley; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William M. Black
Mr. William M. Black, 57, of Bartow died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Black, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from Wayne Battle Lumber Company and was a Baptist.
The funeral was Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vida Mae Josey officiating. Burial was in the Wadley City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Adell Black; three daughters, Dorris Realy, St. Marys, Sandra Meeks, Wrens, and Barbara Tapley, Kite; two sons, William Black Jr., Louisville, and Scott Black, Bartow; four brothers, Sampson Black, Bartow, Wiley Black, Toomsboro, Julian Black, Hazelhurst, and Roy Black, Swainsboro; one sister, Marian York, Wadley; and 17 grandchildren.
Wayne Douglas Hattaway
Mr. Wayne Douglas Hattaway, 56, of Bartow died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Hattaway, born in Washington County, had lived all his life in Jefferson County. He was the son of the late Johnnie Tobias and Maggie Lou Mullins Hattaway. He was a member of Shekinah Baptist Assembly, N.R.A. and former member of the Jefferson Jaycees. He served in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam and served 18 years as Chief Deputy with Jefferson County Sheriff's office.
A graveside service was held Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Louisville City cemetery with the Revs. Ed Deen and Ronald Warnock officiating.
Survivors include his son, Scotty Wayne Hattaway, Blackshear; a daughter, Amanda Hattaway Bessada, Alpharetta; two brothers, John T. Hattaway, Louisville, and William Jerry Hattaway, Augusta; and four sisters, Ethel Davis and Mary Lamb, Louisville, Edith Kelly, Newington, and Carolyn Rowell, Norcross.

Mrs. Mary Tarver Huff of Bartow died Sunday, August 3, 2002, in Louisville.
The funeral was Aug. 7 at 1 p.m. at Spears Grove Baptist Church in Wadley.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Huff, Bartow, and Dora Huff, Wrightsville; two sons, Willie Huff and Nathaniel Tarver, Bartow; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Daniel Ray New
Mr. Daniel Ray New, 74, of Wadley died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital
Mr. New, a native of Jefferson County, was a farmer and a member and deacon of Wadley Baptist Church.
The funeral was Aug. 14 at 3 p.m. at Wadley Baptist Church with Dr. Ernest Purcell and the Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating. Burial was in the Wadley City Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Terese N. Owens, Wadley; a son, Chris M. New, Dearing; two sisters, Alice N. McNeely and Ann N. Prescott, both of Wadley; four grandchildren, Dan Brett, Lauren Ownes, Cristen New and Zachary New.

Norma E. Rautio Sundem
Mrs. Norma E. Rautio Sundem, 75, of Louisville died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Sundem, a native of Bessemer, Mich., was of the Lutheran faith, a member of American Cancer Society and the Celiac Foundation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Sundem and her parents Edwin and Lily Jampsa Rautio.
Memorial graveside services were Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. at Louisville City cemetery with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.
Survivors include a son, Scott Sundem, Savannah; a daughter, Sandy Sundem, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one brother, Charles Rautio, St. Paul, Minn.; and two grandchildren.
