Homer L. Brooks
Mr. Homer L. Brooks, 83, of Wrens died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Brooks retired from the City of Wrens where he served many years as the Chief of Police. He also served his country in World War II in the United States Army. Mr. Brooks is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn A. Brooks, and a daughter, Beverly Brooks.
The funeral was Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Race Lariscy officiating. Burial was in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Terry Brooks, Wrens; one daughter, Lawana (Terry) Carter, Greenville, NC; two brothers, Edgar Brooks, Gibson, and George Brooks, Stapleton; two sisters, Marie Dixon, Wrens, and Martha Malaczewski, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Jason Henson and Julie Carter.
Pallbearers were Charles Prescott, Joe Brooks, Wade Brooks, Lloyd Brassell, Bob Barrow and Marvin Reese.
Margy Sheppard Clark
Mrs. Margy Sheppard Clark of Avera died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Clark, a native of Jefferson County, was a homemaker. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
The funeral was Nov. 6 at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Donald Lumpkin and Lester Clark officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Sheppard, Avera, and Billy (Belinda) Sheppard, Evans; one brother, Ernest Swint, Ft. Myers, Fla.; three sisters, Faye (Lamar) Smith, Martinez, June McGahee, Augusta and Gladys (Hunter) Hawkins, Martinez; and three grandchildren, Cynthia Sheppard, Haley Sheppard and Wes Sheppard.
Pallbearers were Bobby Williams, B.C. Smith, Berny McGahee, Russell Calloway, Kenneth Hardin and Greg Walden.

Alice Frankalene Walters Clary
Mrs. Alice Frankalene Walters Clary, 85, of Toccoa died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Clary, a native of LaGrange, moved in 1955 to Wadley. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church and Joy Sunday School Class. She was a member of The Atlanta Athletic Club, Colonial Dames XVII Century, Daughters of American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Green Thumb Garden Club and Master teacher of Japanese Ikebana.
The funeral was Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Dwayne Benefield and Dr. Henry Fields officiating. Burial was at Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Joel Bradberry officiating.
Survivors include her husband, William C. Clary Jr.; one daughter Alice (Glenn) McGregor, Cornelia; two sons, W.C. (Linda) Clary, Franklin, NC, and Frank Campbell Clary, Dallas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chris Clary, John Stevenson, Robert Evans, Ray Neal, Milton Spratlin and Harold Alexander.
Honorary pallbearers were Ann Thomas, Kaye Neal and Due Yow.

Hattie Mae Reese
Ms. Hattie Mae Reese of Louisville died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Reese, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church. She attended the Jefferson County public school system.
The funeral was Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Fredrick Ricks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Katie L. (Barry Washington) Reese and Larry Reese of Louisville, Lillie Rose (Robert) Brown, Los Angles, Calif., Arthur (Retha) Reese, Macon, and Marvin Reese, Sylvania; siblings, Annie "Lillian" Hilton, Annie Lois Walden and Willie John (Geneva) Reese Jr., Louisville, Nettie Mae Reese and Leroy Reese, Macon, Harvey Reese and Clinton Reese, Decatur, James Brown and Atlanta and Betty "Louise" Fields, Augusta; grandchildren, Wanda (Joe) Dudley, Katrina Hilton, LaTonya Gibbons, Tiffany Perry and Elizabeth Hill, Louisville, Robert Brown Jr. and Lucious Brown, Los Angeles, Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Tony A. Prickett
Mr. Tony A. Prickett, 25, of Matthews died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Prickett was a 1997 graduate of Jefferson County High School where he was a member of the Scott Pope Class for Special Education. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church.
The funeral was Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Race Lariscy and Scott Pope officiating. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Rufus and Barbara Prickett, Matthews; one brother, Daniel Prickett, Matthews; four sisters, Jennifer and Amanda Prickett, both of Matthews, Sara Prickett, Wrens, and Kelly Braswell, Stapleton; his maternal grandmother, Lucy Parker and paternal grandparents, Juddie and Liza Mae Prickett.
Pallbearers were Larry Burke, John Creech, Raymond James, Raymond Prickett, Scott Pope, Scott Tiner, Jim Gay and Tommy Creech.

James D. Vaughn Jr.
Mr. James D. Vaughn Jr., 47, of Matthews died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital
Mr. Vaughn was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and retired from the United States Army.
The funeral was Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Jenkins officiating. Burial was in the Rose Dhu cemetery in Vidette.
Survivors include his wife, Judy M. Vaughn; his father, James D. Vaughn Sr., his mother, Ruby Frasure; one son, Robert A. Vaughn; three daughters, Towanna Godowns, Amy Phillips and Laura Vaughn; one sister, Ruby Pemberton and four grandchildren.

John Oscar Knight
Mr. John Oscar Knight of Bartow died on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at his residence.
The funeral was Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Paul Primitive Baptist Church in Bartow with the Rev. Joseph Mosley officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Nora Gunder Knight, Bartow; four daughters, Annie Mae Daniels and Leola Curry, Jacksonville, Fla., Leola Knight, Atlanta, and Mary Willis, N.J.; a foster daughter, Sandra Jean Gilmore, Bartow; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and four foster grandchildren.

Mary Eliza Mathis
Mrs. Mary Eliza Mathis, 83, of Gibson died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Mathis, a native of Glascock County, was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church. She had lived in the Gibson Health and Rehab Center for 33 years.
A graveside service was held Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Carter Hudson officiating.
Survivors include one nephew, Robert Mathis, Gibson; three nieces, Sherry Thurmond, Washington; Judy Miller, Gibson, and Daisy Guy, Wrens; and several great nieces and nephews.

Pamela Jean Cobb Gibson
Mrs. Pamela Jean Cobb Gibson, 36, of Louisville died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Gibson was a graduate of Augusta College and an accountant for the Augusta National Golf Course. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisville where she was active in the church choir and in children activities. She was a cheerleader sponsor for Thomas Jefferson Academy and was active in the local Relay for Life.
The funeral was Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Louisville. Burial was in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Louisville with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Dan Gibson, Louisville; his son, Bradley Charles Arrington, Louisville; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill and Viola Cobb, Augusta; and two sisters, Karen Cobb Gesling, Kan., and Leeann Cobb Fleischauer, Appling.
Pallbearers were Raymond Fleischauer, Michael Gesling, Chuck Wimberly, Jason Carter, Edward Salter, Mike Campbell, Nicholas Campbell and Fred Page.

Mr. Fred Lewis Terry, 85, of Evans died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2002.
Mr. Terry, a native of Stapleton, had retired from the Colonial Baking Company after 42 years service. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Augusta and a member emeritus of the John S. Davidson Masonic Lodge.
The funeral was Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. at Platt's Funeral Home, North Belair Road Chapel. Burial was at 4 p.m. in Reedy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Stapleton.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Wren Terry; one son, Dr. Fred Lewis Terry Jr. and his wife, Dr. Kristen Moore, Ann Harbor, Mich.; one daughter Ellen Hiss and her husband Leonard Hill, Evans; one brother, Earl C. (Jack) Terry and his wife, Jeannette, Wrens; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Andrew Holloway of Philadelphia, Pa., died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002.
Mr. Holloway, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the Mays Grove Baptist Church. He was retired.

Sallie Mae Hill Pinckney
Mrs. Sallie Mae Hill Pinckney of Wadley died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002.
Mrs. Pinckney, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Jacksonville, Fla., most of her life. She was a retired custodian with the Duval County school system and a member of the St. Paul AME Church where she worked faithfully until her illness.
The funeral was Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. at the St. Paul AME Church, Jacksonville, Fla. with the Rev. M. Zanders officiating. Burial was in the Restlawn Memorial Park.
Survivors include one brother, Eddie Hill Jr., Louisville; two sisters, Wilma (Willie Lee) Huff, Sandersville, and Eula Mae Moye, Wadley; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Mattie Gibbons of Wadley died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, in Louisville.

Survivors include two sons, Otis Gibbons, Bartow, and Albert Gibbons, Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Ms. Lonie Bell Lowery, Louisville; one brother, Willie Gibbons, Cleveland, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.
