Ola Mae Lane Braddy
Ms. Ola Mae Lane Braddy, 60, of Louisville died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Ms. Braddy, a native of Jefferson County, joined Stone Springfield A.M.E. church at an early age. She later united with the New Hope A.M.E. Church in Grange. In 1983 she organized the Louisville Mass Choir. She was a member of the Rising Star Chapter #31, Order of Eastern Star. For the past 20 years she worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for the Jefferson County and Washington County Emergency Medical Team.

The funeral was March 26 at 3 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church with the Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Troy Braddy Sr., Wadley, Michelle Reaves, Jennifer Braddy-Riddle, Vallisa Braddy and Sherrick Braddy of Louisville; her mother, Tessie Lane, Bloomfield, NJ; siblings, Jimmie Lane, Louisville, Donald Lane and Carol Reaves, Bloomfield, NJ, Sharon Bell, Irvington, NJ and Ruby Hatcher, Stapleton; step-brother, James Lane, Fayetteville, NC; nine grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Gilbert Ferguson
Mrs. Annie Gilbert Ferguson, 84, died Sunday, March 23, 2003.

Mrs. Ferguson, a native of Louisville, was the daughter of the late Samuel Rowland and Phoebe Salter Rowland. A resident of Walton County most of her life, she was retired from the Monroe/Walton Mill. She was the widow of the late Curtiss Gilbert until his death in 1975 and the widow of the late E.F. Ferguson until his death in 1993.

The funeral was March 26 at the Monroe Church of God with the Revs. Johnny Willis, Wayne Durden and Dewey Sanders officiating. Burial was in the West Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughters, Cathy Witcher, Monroe, Diane Hardigree, Bishop and Johnnie Kate Weldon, Duluth; sons, Larry Gilbert, Lawrenceville and Danny Gilbert, Covington; Hattie Goodwin, Gough; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Arthur Bowick Inc. Funeral Directors, Monroe, was in charge of the arrangements.

Vera Lyons Harrell
Mrs. Vera Lyons Harrell, 95, of Mitchell died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Harrell, a native of Glascock County, was a member of the Mitchell United Methodist Church.

Graveside services were held March 21 at 3 p.m. at Mitchell City Cemetery, with the Elder Lee Price officiating.

Survivors include two daughters, Zuma Newsome and Mae and Charles Savage; one son, Louie and Betty Harrell, all of Augusta; two brothers, John Lyons and Kenneth Lyons, both of Gibson; and one sister, Mahala Paulk, Ambrose; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Mitchell United Methodist Church Building Fund in care of Mrs. Mary Griswell, 6216 Hwy. 102 W., Mitchell, GA 30820.

Arena Wilcher Stanley
Mrs. Arena Wilcher Stanley, 96, of Louisville died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Kentwood Nursing Home in Augusta.

Mrs. Stanley, a native of Glascock County, was the daughter of the late Charles and Marvin Huckabee Wilcher. She was the wife of the late John B. Stanley Sr. She lived in Louisville for many years before spending her last years at Kentwood Personal Care Home. She was a homemaker and a member of Louisville First Baptist Church. She had been a member of the Eastern Star, Louisville Chapter and the Fidelis Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, J.B. and Dot Stanley.

The funeral was March 25 at 11 a.m. at Louisville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include grandchildren, Paula and Charles Atchison, Crawfordville, and John and Kim Stanley, Evans; three great-grandchildren, Teri Atchison, Statesboro, Jay Stanley and Amry Stanley, Evans; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Palbearers were Willis Stanley, Larry Stanley, John Raley, Jimmy Wilcher, Mike McDowell and Ott Stephens.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Fidelis Sunday School class and the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Louisville.

Memorials may be made to Louisville First Baptist Church, 101 East Ninth St., Louisville, GA 30434.

Eula P. Kelley
Mrs. Eula P. Kelley, 87, of Gibson, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in the Gibson Rest Home.

Mrs. Kelley, a native of Greenville County, NC, had lived in Dearing for many years. She was a retired food service manager and was a member of Fort Creek Baptist Church.

The funeral was March 20 at 11 a.m. at Fort Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Faulkner officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Catherine Seaman, Dearing, and Helen Whitaker, Harlem; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were deacons of Fort Creek Baptist Church.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Emory Council "Lee" Ansley Jr.
Mr. Emory Council "Lee" Ansley Jr., 46, of Ellaville died Sunday, March 16, 2003.

Mr. Ansley, a native of Sumter County, was self-employed as a construction worker, member of First United Methodist Church in Americus and served in the Navy on the USS Nimitz. He was preceded in death by his father, Emory Ansley Sr.

A memorial service was held March 18 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Americus with Joy Wilson and Wendy Joyner officiating.

Survivors include his mother, Kay Statham Ansley, Americus; his wife, Jenny Pennington Ansley; three stepdaughters, Jessica, Jamie and Joni Owens, all of Ellaville; two sisters, Lynn Ansley, Americus and Kathy Vickers, St. Simons; two brothers, Tony Ansley and Ben Ansley, both of Americus; and his paternal grandmother, Hazel Ansley of Americus.

Honorary pallbearers were Ben Ansley, Tony Ansley, Tim Vickers, George Pennington, Jeff Pennington and Billy Rowland.

Memorials may be made to the Americus and Sumter County Hospice, P.O. Box 1434, Americus, GA 31709.

Robert Cuyler Sr.
Mr. Robert Cuyler Sr. of Augusta died Monday, March 24, 2003 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Mr. Cuyler, a native of Louisville, was a member of Williams Grove Church in Millen and was employed by First Baptist Church as a Chef and Custodian. He was a former employee of Jefferson Hospital.

The funeral was March 29 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Timothy Owings officiating. Burial was in Westover Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, Shawanda Phillips Cuyler; 10 children, Robin Cuyler, Rabin Cuyler, Rico Cuyler, Elizabeth "Piggy" Ross, all of Augusta, Robert Lee Cuyler Jr., Ft. Stewart, Helen Cuyler, Leroy Cuyler, Philadelphia, Pa., Coretta Dalton, Dwight Dudley and Monica Cuyler, all of Louisville; two sisters, Annie Jean Cuyler-McBride and Lucille Cuyler; sisters-in-law; 19 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Williams Funeral Home, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangements.

Catherine Heggs
Ms. Catherine Heggs of Wadley died Friday, March 21, 2003, in Louisville.

The funeral was March 27 at 11 a.m. at Pineola Church of God in Wadley with the Rev. John Harmon officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Bartow.

Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia H. Tarver, Wadley, and Tomiko Banks, Ft. Bragg, NC; one son, Joseph Heggs, Ft. Polk, La.; her mother, Susie Heggs, Bartow; four sisters, Sylester Heggs and Vanessa Gilmore, Wadley, and Marlean Brinson and Beverly Ann Heggs, Bartow; and five grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Ruth Williams Brown Kitchens
Mrs. Annie Ruth Williams Brown Kitchens of Wadley died Saturday, March 22, 2003 in Louisville.

The funeral was March 29 at 2 p.m. at the Wadley Church of God in Christ with the Rev. David Kemp officiating. Burial was in Live Oak Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Morris Kitchens; five daughters, Joann Brown Tarver, Annie B. Kelluem, Lillie B. Dixon, Bobbie B. Kleckley and Lou Della Brown, Wadley; two sons, Gary Brown and Eddie J. Brown, Wadley; three sisters, Classie Mae Williams, Sollie Mae Williams and Sallie Mae Williams, Wadley; six brothers, Rufus Williams, Eddie Williams, Sammie Lee Williams, Dan A. Williams and Johnnie Williams, Wadley, and Franklin Williams, Swainsboro; 29 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

J.F. "Buddy" Rhodes
Mr. J.F. "Buddy" Rhodes, 85, of Louisville died Friday, March 28, 2003, in the Old Capital Inn Nursing Home.

Mr. Rhodes, a native of Jefferson County, served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He had retired from the Jefferson County School Board where he was the maintenance supervisor for the bus shop. He was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church. He was the son of the late Joseph Floyd and Angelo Newsome Rhodes.

The funeral was March 30 at 3 p.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Dean and Danny Treadway officiating. Burial was in Jefferson Memorial Gardens cemetery in Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Stapleton Rhodes; two sons, Don Rhodes, Bartow, and Larry Rhodes, Louisville; five grandchildren, Mark A. Rhodes, Atlanta, Patrick B. Rhodes, Macon, Philip R. Rhodes, Sylvania, Matthew T. Rhodes, Warner Robins and Mrs. Clelia Couch, Milledgeville; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mark A. Rhodes, Patrick B. Rhodes, Philip R. Rhodes, Matthew T. Rhodes, Cecil Couch and Mitchell McGraw.

Memorials may be made to the Louisville United Methodist Church Building Fund, 301 W 7th St., Louisville, GA 30434.

Brenda Leago Neveu
Mrs. Brenda Leago Neveu, 62, of Matthews died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Neveu, a native of Deridder, La., was a homemaker. She was a Catholic and attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Louisville.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond P. Neveu, Matthews; one son, Raymond A. Neveu, Matthews; two daughters, Tina M. Landrum, Matthews, and Lisa F. Burgess, Monroe, NC; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Fances Walker Milton
Mrs. Fances Walker Milton, 92, of Keysville died Monday, March 24, 2003 at the Gibson Health and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Milton, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late M.E. and Rosa Walker, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, a former Miss South Carolina, member of the American Jersey Cattle Club, a member of Wrens Town and Country Garden Club, former President of Matthews Community PTA and a member of Mount Moriah United Methodist Church. She was retired from the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Milton Sr., her son Larry Hildreth and her daughter-in-law, Susan Florence Milton.

A graveside service was held March 26 at 2 p.m. at Mount Moriah Church cemetery with the Rev. Tommy Fussell officiating.

Survivors include her son, James Milton Jr., Keysville; two grandsons, David Milton, Thomson, and James W. Milton, Denver, Colo.; a sister, Evelyn W. Jordan, Auburn, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Nell Hildreth, Keysville; several nieces and nephews, and caregiver, Reba Daniels, Matthews.

Memorials may be made to Mount Moriah United Methodist Church cemetery Fund, c/o Dianne Stewart, 8219 Hwy. 88, Keysville, GA 30816; McCollum Public Library, c/o Wanda McGahee, 405 N. Loys Chalker
Mr. Loys Chalker, 82, of Gibson died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Chalker, a native of Glascock County, was a WWII Navy Veteran where he served as an aviation mechanic. He owned and operated the local hardware store for 42 years, he was a Mason and a member of the Gibson Masonic Lodge #257 for 57 years, he served on the Glascock County Board of Education for five years and he was an active member of the Gibson United Methodist Church for 62 years. He was the son of the late Eddie Albert Chalker and Eva Hardin Chalker of Gibson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clois Chalker, Charlotte, NC and a son-in-law, Joe Stringfield, Gibson.

The funeral was April 8 at 11 a.m. at Gibson United Methodist Church with the Revs. Bill Seaman and Griffin Thompson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Edith English Chalker; one son, Timothy (Freda) Chalker, Hephzibah; two daughters, Sandra Stringfield, Gibson, Cheryl (Denny) Newsome, Augusta; one brother, Billy Chalker, Warrenton; two sisters, Mildred Gifford, Stone Mountain, and Mary Anna May, Augusta; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were members of the Gibson Masonic Lodge #257.

Honorary pallbearers were the Gibson United Methodist Church Adult Sunday School Class and the Mason's.

Memorials may be made to the Gibson United Methodist Church, c/o Frankie Porter, 328 Lamb Street, Gibson, GA 30810 and the Alzheimer's Association, 1899 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
