James Emmitt Parrish
Mr. James Emmitt Parrish, 48, of Statesboro died Monday, June 9, 2003.
Mr. Parrish, a native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County, was the owner of Parrish Portable Toilets and Septic Tank Service. He was a member of the Home Builders Association and active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer M. and Lois Parrish.
The funeral was June 11 at 2 p.m. in the Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lamar Taylor officiating. Burial was in Eastside Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Paula B. Parrish; a son, Paul M. Parrish, Statesboro; five aunts; four uncles; and several cousins.
Pallbearers were Ed Smith, Andy Parrish, Eddie Brown, Russ Beachum, Archie Finch, Larry Purvis, Emory Bargeron Jr. and Kevin Gonya.
Honorary pallbearers were the Members of the Home Builders Association of Statesboro.

Dorothy Holton Smith
Mrs. Dorothy Holton Smith, 81, of Hephzibah died Sunday, June 1, 2003, in the Medical College of Georgia Hospital.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Miller D. Holton and the late Kate Lee Watkins Holton. She was retired from the John P. King Manufacturing Company. She was a homemaker and a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Jordan Smith Sr. and son, Larry Allen Smith Sr.
The funeral was June 4 at 3 p.m. at Josey Baptist Church near Bartow with the Rev. Donald C. Prosser officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Lynette Wooldwridge, Battleground, Wash., Georgianne Bailey, Hephzibah, and Sheila Renee Littleton, Augusta; three sons, Henry J. Smith Jr., Decatur, Milton Lewis Smith, Appling, and Samuel Dean Smith, Augusta; a sister, Mary Lou Arrington, Augusta; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Charles Veston Westray I
Mr. Charles Veston Westray I, 67, of Gibson died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Mr. Westray was a native of Forsyth County.
A memorial service was held June 7 at 4 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, Mitchell, with the Rev. James King officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Darleen Westray; one son, Charles Veston Westray II, Dawsonville; two daughters, Carolyn Satterfield, Sautee, and Sara Cagle, Alpharetta; one brother, Alton Westry, Cumming; and four grandchildren.

John Edward Kelly Sr.
Dea. John Edward Kelly Sr., 56, of Louisville died Tuesday, June 10, 2003.
Mr. Kelly, a native of Jefferson County, was a 1964 graduate of Jefferson County High School. He was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1966, he was a 1976 cum laude graduate of Savannah State College and he retired from the Westinghouse Corp., Baltimore Division in 1993 after 17 years of service. He was employed by Ball Aerospace and Communications Group. He was ordained as a deacon in 1981 at Morning Star Baptist Church in Baltimore, Md. In 1993 he returned to Jefferson County and joined Greater St. Paul Baptist Church.
The funeral was June 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church with the Revs. Issac Culberth and Hardy Bennings Jr. officiating. Burial was in Stone Springfield Cemetery.

Mr. John Henry Brooks Jr. of Louisville died Tuesday, June 10, 2003.
Mr. Brooks, a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, received his education in the Jefferson County School System. He was a former employee of Forstmann and Company Inc., and a school us driver for the Jefferson County Board of Education. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church and a singer of the Gospel Jubilees.
The funeral was June 14 at 4 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Peter Sparks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Loetta Bryant
Mrs. Loetta Bryant, 70, of Stapleton died Friday, June 6, 2003, in Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Bryant, a native of Glascock County, had lived in Stapleton for many years. She was a retired seamstress from the Stapleton Garment Company. She attended Bethel Baptist Church.
The funeral was June 9 at 4 p.m. in the chapel at Curtis Funeral Home with the Rev. tim Ferrell officiating. Burial was in the Mitchell Full Gospel Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Bryant, Stapleton; two daughters, Peggy Sammons, Gibson and Nancy Bales, Augusta; two sons, Eddie May, Mitchell and Joey May, Thomson; a stepson, Richard Bryant; one sister, Mary McNair, Augusta; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Ronald Wynn
Mr. Ronald Wynn of Wadley died Tuesday, June 10, 2003.
The funeral was June 14 at 2 p.m. at the Pineola Church of God in Wadley with the Rev. Ronnie Harden officiating.
Survivors include a daughter, Tanaskia Brinkley, Augusta; two sons, Daytron Brinkley, Wadley, and Ronald Brinkley, Atlanta; two step-daughters, Kenyatta Brinkley, Waynesboro and Tameca Carswell, Wadley; a step-son, Robert Carswell, Wadley; and seven grandchildren.

Wylly T. Jordan Sr.
Mr. Wylly T. Jordan Sr., 90, of Bartow died Friday, June 20, 2003, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Jordan, a native of Jefferson County, was former director of Jefferson County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Bartow United Methodist Church, a member Stonewall Lodge #98 and a member of Al Sihah Shrine Temple in Macon and a retired farmer.
The funeral was held June 22 at 2 p.m. at Bartow United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Howell and Dr. Larry Sauls officiating. Burial was in the Bartow City Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Sue J. Rachels, Wadley, and Bertha J. Huber, Laurens, SC; grandchildren, George Rachels III, Bartow, Vic Rachels and Charles Rachels, Wadley, Bryan Rachels, Sarah Beth Mathews, Warner Robins, Heather Taylor, Laurens, SC, Randy Huber III, Reidville, SC, Amy Eubanks, Augusta, Wylly Jordan III, Stone Mountain; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Robert W. Grier Jr.
Mr. Robert W. Grier Jr., 73, of Shawnee on Delaware, Penn., died Friday, June 20, 2003.
Mr. Grier was born in Atlanta. He was the son of the late Robert W. and Florence Beatrice Webb Grier. He was the owner and operator of Grier Funeral Home in Louisville for 14 years. He was a member and past master of Stonewall Masonic Lodge #98, a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Valley of Augusta, Alee Shrine in Savannah. He was the past president of the Louisville Kiwanis Club, American Legion post 255, a member of Francis Bartow Camp of the Sons of the Confederacy. Mr. Grier was a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kingspoint, NY; a graduate of U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterrey, Calif., a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta and attended Oglethorpe University. He was a Master Mariner and a member of the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam conflicts having served in the Navy where he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Vietnam Medal of Valor. He was the husband of the late Carol A. Grier.
Graveside services were June 16 at 11 a.m. in the Louisville City cemetery with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony W. Grier, Shawnee on Delaware, and Robert W. Grier III, Quantico, Va.; two brothers, B.W. Grier, Sanford, Fla., Richared A. Grier, Lakemont; a sister, Mary G. Moore, St. Augustine, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Lucille C. White
Mrs. Lucille C. White, 92, of Covington died Thursday, May 28, 2003, at Morgan Memorial Hospital in Madison.
Mrs. White, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Walter Harrison and Sally Holton Cox. She was the widow of Mr. Fred White. She graduated as valedictorian of her class from Wadley High School in 1929 and went on to graduate from Georgia Southern College in 1933. She taught school in Grange, Lavonia, Royston, Eastonelle and Toccoa City school systems. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Covington, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 32 and Retired Teachers Association and was past regent of the Lady Huntingdon Chapter of the DAR and present member of Sgt. Newton DAR Chapter, which presented her with a certificate for over 50 years of membership.
The funeral was May 31 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Don Martin and the Rev. James Sanders officiating. Burial was in Royston City Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, John W. (Charlotte) White, Athens; sisters, Mrs. Mary Cox Rachels and Mrs. Lula Vaughn Smith, Covington; a brother, Walter H. (Clair) Cox, Coral Gables, Fla.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Marian L. Brown, 75, of Wrens died Tuesday, June 17, 2003.

Joseph Mitchell "Joe" McCall
Deacon Joseph Mitchell "Joe" McCall, 56, of St. Petersburg, Fla. died Thursday, June 12, 2003.
Mr. McCall, born in Louisville, moved to St. Petersburg in 1970 from Wrens. He was a retired zone technician from GTE. He attended Tampa College. He was an Air Force and Army National Guard Reserve veteran. He was a deacon at St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the male choir. He managed the Golden Gates Gospel Group and was a member of Prince Hall Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine McCall; a son, Joseph McCall Jr., St. Petersburg; a daughter, Erica Clark, Fort Eustis, Va.; two brothers, Grady McCall and Charles McCall, both of St. Petersburg; his mother, Leola McCall, Wrens; two sisters, Rose Judge, Jamaica, NY, and Martha Anne Williams, Augusta; and two grandchildren.
