Janie L. Jones
Mrs. Janie L. Jones, 61, of Wrens died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003.
Mrs. Jones, a native of Emanuel County, lived in Wrens for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roland O. Jones and two brothers, Larry Peebles and Ronnie Peebles.

The funeral was Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Ford and the Rev. Marvin Goodman officiating. Burial was in Lamb cemetery in Emanuel County.

Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Dowdy and Stephanie Sanders, both of Wrens; two sons, Vincent Jones, Avera, and Paul B. Jones, Wrens; her mother, Ethel Peebles, Swainsboro; five brothers, Edward Peebles, Savannah, Danny Peebles, Adrian, Joey Peebles, Donnie Peebles, Jimmy Peebles, Swainsboro; four sisters, Joann Reynolds, Paula Wheeler, Bete Claxton, Swainsboro, and Barbara English, Twin City; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Kenny Jones, Jodie Peebles, Brian Claxton, Paul Wheeler, Terry Reynolds and James Claxton.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Davie Lamar McBride
Deacon Davie Lamar McBride died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003.

Deacon McBride, a native of Burke County, was a graduate of Wrens High School Class of 1979 and a graduate of South Carolina State College in 1984. He was employed as a counselor for the state of Georgia at the Augusta Diversion Center. He was a member of the Georgia High School Referee Association and he served as a Deacon at Peel Grove Baptist Church in Vidette. He was preceded in death by his father, Otis McBride and his wife, Diane McBride.

The funeral was Oct. 11 at Rock Creek Baptist Church in Waynesboro with the Revs. Lee Edward Jones, Bobby Williams Jr. and Dr. David Kemp officiating. Burial was in Spring Bethel Church cemetery in Louisville.

Survivors include a son, Davie McBride Jr.; a daughter, Alicia McBride; a stepdaughter, Tamika Roberts, all of Wrens; a daughter, Victory McBride, South Carolina; his mother, Alice McBride, Wrens; five brothers, Johnny McBride, Leeotis (Ethel) McBride, Waynesboro, Melvin (Vera) McBride, Wrens, Ray Charles (Alice) Smith, Louisville, Gary Jones and Craig (Lowanda) McBride, all of Wrens; three sisters, Mary F. Walker, Wrens, Gloriasteen (Wayne) Williams, Augusta and Brenda (Eddy) Williams, Keysville; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Newt Oliphant, Wrens; and a host of aunts, great-aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Carter's Mortuary, Waynesboro, was in charge of the arrangements.

Annette McNair Patterson
Mrs. Annette McNair Patterson, 48 of Stapleton died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003.

The funeral was Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie L. Jones officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Marie McNair, Stapleton; three daughters, Latricia Drayton, Thomson, Latisia McNair, Stapleton and Felicia Patterson, Gainesville, Fla.; a son, Elton Patterson, Stapleton; four brothers, Alton Douglas, Newark, N.J., Robert Brown, Atlanta, Harry James McNair and James Richard McNair, both of Stapleton; four sisters, Louise Douglas, Newark, Bobbie McNair and Jo Ann McNair, both of Miami, Fla., and Vickey Stanford, Wadley; and two grandchildren.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Frances Isaylia McTier Greene
Mrs. Frances Isaylia McTier Greene, 95, of Lakeland, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Greene, a native of Warren County, moved from Wrens to Lakeland in 1939. She and her husband, the late Marion Tyler Greene, married in 1932 and started their first restaurant together specializing in Southern home-cooked meals. They hadn't been in business very long before he was killed. She continued to operate the business, and after that, she had two more restaurants that she ran. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church at the Mall. She was the oldest member of the Kendall McTier Family Association. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John David McTier and Geneva Belle Purvis McTier; and brothers and sisters, Hulon McTier, Essie Mae Drew, Macon McTier, Thomas McTier, Johnnie Mae Lutes, Kimmell McTier, Norman McTier, Hammond McTier, Roy McTier and Robert McTier.

Memorial services were held Oct. 18 at Reedy Creek Baptist Church in Stapleton with the Rev. Kenneth Jones officiating. Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at Lanier Funeral Home in Lakeland.

Survivors include one brother, Harry (Bert Thompson) McTier, North Augusta; two sisters, Geneva McTier, Augusta and Mary McTier, North Augusta; four sisters-in-law, Asalee Williams McTier, Evans, Agnes Inglett McTier, Wrens, Wendy Bailey McTier, Antioch, Tenn., and Anna Harden Williford, Thomson; one brother-in-law, Grady Lutes, Thomasville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Starling Funeral Home, Harlem, was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruth Wasden-Horne
Mrs. Ruth Wasden-Horne, 89, of Louisville died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Old Capital Inn Nursing Home in Louisville.

Mrs. Horne was the wife of the late Mr. Clarence Horne.

The funeral was Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at Grove Baptist Church, Grovetown, with the Rev. Frank Thigpen officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens near Grovetown.

Pallbearers were E.R. Hughes, Tom LaCount, Namon Woods, Bill Campbell, C.C. Salazar and Dennis Trudeau.

Memorials may be made to Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 263, Grovetown, GA 30813.

Ursula Margot Hanisch
Mrs. Ursula Margot Hanisch Stapleton of Dearing died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Stapleton, born in Berlin, Germany, on March 19, 1932, the daughter of Otto and Irma Hanisch.

A memorial service was held on Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. at Fort Creek Baptist Church, Dearing, with the Rev. Boyd Reeves officiating.

Survivors include her husband, James L. (Jay) Stapleton; her children, Christine Stapleton Williams, Waynesboro, Martin James (Jimmy) Stapleton, Clinton, Tenn., Kathy Stapleton Hightower, Ridgeland, SC, Baleria Fay Stapleton Sause, Wadley, and Dorothy Ann Stapleton Hensley, Grovetown; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Jerry L. Taylor Sr.
Mr. Jerry L. Taylor Sr., 57, of Waynesboro died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Taylor, a native of Jefferson County, was employed in the electrical department at EZ-GO in Augusta. He was the son of the late Robert Taylor and Rosalee Prickett Taylor.

The funeral was Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel in Hephzibah with the Rev. Mike Andrews officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Matthews.

Survivors include one son, Jerry L. Taylor Jr., Grovetown; two brothers, Aaron Taylor, Hephzibah, Alvin Amerson, Thomson; four sisters, Nancy Johnson, Wrens, Peggy Kitchens, Hephzibah, Sheila Taylor, Grovetown and Teresa Brooks, Evans; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bobby Burke, Chris Turner, Rodney Wade, Cliff Johnson, Marty Amerson, Mike Prickett, Chris Tankersley and Mike Inglett.

DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home, Hephzibah, was in charge of the arrangements.

Carolyn Mock Anderson
Mrs. Carolyn Mock Anderson, 73, of Sylvania died Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mrs. Anderson, a native of Screven County, was a member of the Sylvania First Baptist Church where she served as Director of the Women's Missionary Union and a member of the Catherine Hillis WMU Group and the Virginia Sunday School Class. She was a retired beautician. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Caroleigh Bazemore Mock and her twin sister, Marilyn Mock Walker.

The funeral was Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at Sylvania First Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace Lariscy III, Rev. Lonnie Norris and Mrs. Linda Lariscy officiating. Burial was in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, William R. "Buddy" Anderson; a daughter, Rebecca A. (Lee) Woods, Stapleton; a son, Larry A. (Karen) Anderson, Sylvania; a brother, Leonard (Nell S.) Mock Jr., Sylvania; a brother-in-law, Alston Walker, Newington; two grandsons, Alan Anderson, Sylvania and Mitchell Woods, Stapleton; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Len Mock, Lee Mock, Jarrad Mock, Clint Shepard, Tom Avret, Clifford Bazemore, William Triplett and Donnie Hopkins.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Catherine Hillis WMU Group and the Virginia Sunday School Class of Sylvania First Baptist Church.

Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home, Sylvania, was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Hyman Blocker Jr.
Mr. Robert Hyman Blocker Jr., 75, of Wadley died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Blocker, a native of Toombs County, had lived in Wadley most of his life. He retired after 46 years as a merchant and used car dealer. He was a member of Wadley Baptist Church.

The funeral was Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. at Wadley Baptist Church. Burial was in the Wadley City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Melvina Blocker; two sons, Robert Dana Blocker of Louisville and Michael W. Blocker of Wadley; three step-sons, Tilla Raines, Brooklyn, NY, Thad Raines, Bartow and Steve Raines, Wadley; a step-daughter, Della R. Rachel, Bartow; a brother, Jimmy Blocker, Wadley; a sister, Mary E. Reynolds, Boca Raton, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Robbie Blocker, Chad Blocker, Chase Blocker, Anthony Dukes, Joe Nasworthy, Ralph Sandeford, Josh Raines and Boone Blackburn.

Memorials may be made to the Wadley Baptist Church Building Fund.

Stephanie Walden Davis
Mrs. Stephanie Walden Davis, 29, of Louisville died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Mrs. Davis, a native of Jefferson County, attended Louisville High School and was a graduate with a CNA from Swainsboro Technical College. She was a former employee of the Heritage of Old Capital and presently employed at the Emanuel Medical Center.

The funeral was Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Wadley, with the Revs. Marque C. Johnson, Gary Hackett Jr., Herman Baker and Tyrone Hinkins officiating. Burial was in the San Clair Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Vincent Davis Jr.; her children, Gregory Devonte' Hunter and Cameron Tyresc Davis, Louisville; her parents, Mark and Ella Dogan Walden, Louisville; siblings, Andrac Dixon, Wadley, Maurice Walden, Crystal Walden, Natasha Kittles and Marcus Walden, Louisville; her grandmother, Louise Holloway, Louisville; mother-in-law, Brenda Joyce Davis, Midville; father-in-law, Robert Vincent Davis Sr., Philadelphia, Pa.; grandmother-in-law, Dessie Lockhart, Wadley; aunts and uncles, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Graveside services for newborn twins, Kris Palmer Fields and Kristy Palmer Fields, born to Kenneth Fields and Ella Palmer were held Oct. 27 at the Lone Star Society Cemetery, Louisville, with Pastor Robert Stokes officiating.

Sara Almeater Perry
Mrs. Sara Almeater Perry, 78, of Centerville died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003.

Mrs. Perry was a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Jones County High School. She was preceded in death by husbands, Robert Earl King Sr., Norman J. Avant and Ben Perry.

The funeral was Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Hamilton and Len Woodard officiating. Burial was in Haddock Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Robert Earl (Linda) King Jr., Centerville; sisters, Louise Hinson, Jones County and Violet Garrett, Wadley; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Houston County, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.

Johnnie Brooks Habersham Sr.
Mr. Johnnie Brooks Habersham Sr., 74, died Oct. 18, 2003.

Mr. Habersham, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Fleming Habersham. He lived the majority of his adult life in Savannah. He was a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served on the Trustee Board, Treasurer of the Building Fund, Senior Choir, Sons of Allen and Voices of Joy.

The funeral was Oct. 25 at noon at Bethel AME Church in Savannah.

Survivors include his wife, Alfreida Williams Habersham; three children, Rev. Janet Renee Habersham, Mitchellville, Md., Johnnie Brooks Habersham Jr., Boston, Mass. and Joseph Bruce (Rhonda) Habersham, Savannah; three brothers, Jimmie (Jean) Habersham, Columbus, Freddie Habersham, Philadelphia, Pa., and Robert (Vivian) Habersham, Panama City, Fla.; seven sisters, Bessie Thomas and Alice Parker, Briston, Pa., Josephine (Roosevelt) McCrea, Channye Drayton and Emma (Robert) Wilson, Philadelphia, Margaret Owens and Julia (Willie) Wilcher, Savannah; two granddaughters; brothers and sisters-in-law; one aunt, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Louise McGahee Neal
Mrs. Louise McGahee Neal, 73, of Thomson died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003.

Mrs. Neal, a native of McDuffie County, was a former employee of the Stapleton Garment Factory and a homemaker.

The funeral was Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Young officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Survivors include her son, Tony (Sharon) Colvin, Bartow; grandchildren, Brandy and Joel Hiebert, Bartow; a great-grandchild, Katelyn Hiebert, Bartow; one sister, Nettie Sims, Keysville; three brothers, John McGahee, Dearing, Talmadge McGahee and William McGahee, both of Thomson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were Callaway Workman, Ricky McGahee, Matt Sims, Jeff Allen, Mack McGahee and Buzzy Dent.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Hospice Care, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA 30904.
