Sylvia Goureau Horton
Mrs. Sylvia Goureau Horton, 63, of Dublin, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003.

Mrs. Horton, a native of Laurens County, was the daughter of the late William Francis and Teresa Page Goureau. She retired as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Funeral Mass was held Dec. 27 at 3 p.m. in the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception in Dublin with Father Richard Hart as Celebrant. Burial was in Northview Cemetery.

Survivors include her brother, William F. Goureau, Zephyr Hills, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Ann G. Smith, Richmond Hills, Janet G. Wilkinson, Milledgeville, and Rita G. Culvern, Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

Adams Funeral Home, Dublin, was in charge of the arrangements.

Edward Aldred Jr.
Mr. Edward Aldred Jr. of Bartow died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2004.

Mr. Aldred, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Reuben E. and Eva Newsome Aldred Sr. He was a tool and die maker and retired from Thermo-King. He was a member of the Old Bethel Baptist Church and a Woodman of the World.

The funeral was Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. at Old Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Eiland and Bill Thigpen officiating. Burial was in Parker United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joe Ann Aldred, Bartow; four daughters, Peggy and Barry Wood, Louisville, Thelma and Kenny Watkins, Wadley, Bobbie Jean and Randy Newsome and Joanna Lord, Bartow; a sister-in-law and husband, Betty Sue and Emmitt Stavely, Bartow; sister-in-law, Mrs. Ganier Price, Mich.; brother-in-law and wife, Billy and Madelyn McKenzie, Bartow; two paternal aunts; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were cousins, Frank Neman, Lindsey Hannah, Doc Hannah, Ray Black, Robert Black, Jimmy Black, Tommy Gordy and Lyman Gordy.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home, Louisville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Bessie Mae Amerson
Mrs. Bessie Mae Amerson, 75, entered into rest October 12, 2004, at Medical College of Georgia.

Mrs. Amerson had lived in Jefferson County all her life and was a member of the Waldens United Methodist Church.

The funeral was Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. at Waldens United Methodist with the Rev. Marvin Goodman officiating.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Jerry Grice, Hephzibah and Tammy and John Ryan, Wrens; one sister, Alma W. Williams, Louisville and one grandchild, Andy Ryan.

Pallbearers were Ben Williams, William Barnes, Heywood Wells, Fay McGahee, Algie Snider and Harold McGahee.

James Funeral Home in Wrens was in charge of the arrangements.

Bertram P. Avera
Dr. Bertram P. Avera, 87, of Zelienople, Pa., died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Mr. Avera, a native of Jefferson County, retired after 35 years with Internal Medicine from the VA Hospital in Dublin. He served in World War II for the U.S. Army as a medical officer in the Aleutian Islands. He was a member of the Wrens ARP Church.

Graveside services were Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. at Wrens City cemetery with the Rev. Gary Jones officiating.

Survivors include a sister, Mildred Avera Wilburn, Zelienople; one niece, Anne Young; a great niece, Michelle A. Young; a great nephew, Mark A. Young.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie James Bigham
Mr. Willie James Bigham of Augusta died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004.

Mr. Bigham, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Sand Valley AME Church where he was president of the Steward Board. He retired from Lily Cup after 30 years.

The funeral was Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Sand Valley AME Church with the Rev. Samuel Thompkins officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Bigham: four children, Willie Lawrence Bigham Jr., Augusta, Vernice B. Myles, Hephzibah, Regina Bigham, Augusta, Yvonne Bigham, Philadelphia, Pa.; four sisters, Clara Rhinehart and Eunice Brown, Augusta, Inez Davis and Mattie Butts, Louisville: seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Gertrude Boatwright
Ms. Gertrude Boatwright of Wadley died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004.

The funeral was Sept. 18 at 2 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley. Burial was in Hardshell Cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Mattie Lee Boatwright, Wadley; one daughter, Johnnie Mae Boatwright, Wadley; two sons, Jerome Boatwright, Atlanta, and Alfred Lewis, Summerville, S.C.; four sisters, Susie Sherrod, Elizabeth Boatwright and Rosie Lee Randall, Wadley, and Annie Brookins, Bartow; six brothers, Mathis Gardner, Cartersville, Samuel Gardner, Rockmart, Tom Boatwright, Jimmie Boatwright, Willie Randall and Arthur Boatwright, all of Wadley; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Bridgett T. Espinoza
Mrs. Bridgett T. Espinoza, 22, of Wrens died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004.

The funeral was Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Father Larry Goulding officiating. Burial was at Mt. Aldred CME Church in Warren County.

Survivors include her husband, Hector Espinoza; two sons, Jose H. Espinoza and Hector Espinoza Jr., Wrens; her father, Oliver McNair, Glascock County; her stepfather, Glen Pearson, Thomson; two sisters, Roshanda Norris and Katrina Burnett, Dearing; one brother, Chris Pearson, Thomson; her grandparents, Iola McNair, Glascock County, and Henry McNair, Dearing; great-grandmother, Beatrice Casey, Thomson.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma Louise McLaughlin Templeton Cliett
Mrs. Thelma Louise McLaughlin Templeton Cliett of Augusta died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004.

Mrs. Cliett was a former member of Burns Memorial United Methodist Church. In her later years she attended First Southern Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Alice Warren Eastern Star and a founding member of the Aiken-Augusta Orchid Society. She was retired from the telegraph office and was a bookkeeper for her first husband's fishing tackle business.

The funeral was Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Alderman officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Columbro, Lincolnton, Betty (Jimmy) Dixon, Keysville; one stepdaughter, Noel (Chloris) McGahee, Martinez; two stepsons, Ronald Cliett, Hephzibah, and Delbert (Vivian) Cliett, Augusta; seven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were Mike McCombs, Chuck McCombs, John Rhodes, Jason McCombs, Austin McCombs, Baylen McCombs, Jordan McCombs, Brad Hall and Charles Levy.

Honorary pallbearers were Troy Rhodes, Dr. Beryl Tanenbaum, Aaron Tanenbaum, Ron Cliett and Charles Tant.

Ida Mae Gay
Mrs. Ida Mae Gay, 92, of Appling died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Gay, a native of McDuffie County, had lived in Appling for many years. She was retired from Thomson Company after 40 years of service and also worked at Neal's BBQ in Harlem. She was a member of Silver Run Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, B.G. Gay, and a daughter, Frances Allen.

The funeral was Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Silver Run Baptist Church with the Revs. John McMillian and Jerry Pittman officiating. Burial was in the Harlem City Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Homer and Ellen Gay, Appling; two sisters, Myrtle Morris, Harlem, Eva Mae Williams, Dearing; her brother, Clifford Miles, Harlem; a grandson, Pete Allen, Harlem; and a granddaughter, Delores Kitchens, Gibson.

Pallbearers were Tim Edwards, Ray Miles, Kevin Allen, Dan Allen, Randy Frost and James Kitchens.

Memorials may be made to Silver Run Baptist Church.

Exzemma Wigham Johnson
Mrs. Exzemma Wigham Johnson of Augusta died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Johnson, a native of Jefferson County, was a graduate of Paine College with a BA degree in education and social studies. She taught at Ursula E. Collins Elementary School and East Augusta Middle School and retired as a teacher after teaching for 28 years throughout Georgia and Alabama. She was a member of Williams Memorial CME Church.

The funeral was Oct. 30 at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial CME Church with the Rev. Dr. Paul W. Gardner officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.

Survivors include four children, Alandus (Lanny) C. Johnson, Dallas, Texas, Jevonne R. Johnson, Houston, Texas, Myranda A. Johnson, Atlanta, Lenn E. Johnson, Boise, Idaho; a grandson, Victor Johanns Williams, Atlanta; sisters, Ola Mae Curtis, Augusta, Mattie Lee Jackson, Savannah, Gladys Hobbs, Wrens, Beatrice Shareef, Atlanta, Annette C. Wright, Conyers; two brothers, Rayburn M. Whigham, Augusta, Hubert H. Whigham, Atlanta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Ray Webb
Deacon Willie Ray Webb of Wadley died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004.

The funeral was Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Tarvers Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Elder James Blair officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Webb, Wadley; four daughters, Shonta Walker and Kimberly Burton, Wadley, Elizabeth Brown, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Bernice Davis, Tennille; four sons, Tommy Lee Hill, Augusta, Dexter Hill, Bartow, Zachary Hill, West Palm Beach, Fla., and London Hill, Swainsboro; a stepson, Izell Mack, Wadley; five sisters, Mildred Webb, Bartow, Juanita Williams, Wrightsville, Ann B. Williams, N.J., Joanne Sinvil and Jennie Lee Raymond, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Kathryn B. Lockhart
Mrs. Kathryn B. Lockhart, 56, of Keysville died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004.

Mrs. Lockhart, a native of Milledgeville, had lived the last 26 years in the Augusta area and was employed by the Medical College of Georgia for 12 years as a medical laboratory technician before retiring.

The funeral was Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at Elliott Sons Columbia Road Chapel with the Rev. Michael S. Thigpen officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Bennie A. Lockhart; two sons, Tommy Wood, Petty, Michael Wood, Augusta; two daughters, Wendy Roberts, Warner, Okla.; Amy Lewis, Augusta; stepchildren, Ronnie Lockhart and Donna Greager, Paradise, Calif., Randy Lockhart, Augusta; two sisters, JoAnn Fields, Port Orange, Fla., and Sherri Crawford, Bunnell, Fla.; several grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mary Roundtree Padgett, 81, of Keysville died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at Brentwood Terrace Health Care in Waynesboro.

Mrs. Padgett was a homemaker and a member of Crossroads Baptist Church

The funeral was Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church with the Revs. Dan Bowen and Mike Andrews officiating. Burial was at Pine Hill Baptist Church cemetery in Hephzibah.

Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Gulyban, Martinez, Cornelia P. Reynolds, Keysville, Cindy Lathem, Hephzibah; four sisters, Betty Neely, Lillian Shaw, Susie Joiner and Margaret Drake; two brothers, Lewis R. Roundtree and Preston Roundtree; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joe Crenshaw, Michael Gallagher, James Clark, Calley Jackson, Rod Drake and Jeff Padgett.
