Leigh Ann Brett
Mrs. Leigh Ann Brett, 39, of Louisville died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Mrs. Brett was born June 3, 1965, in Americus to Mr. Lee Murray and Gloria Gardner Jr. She was employed with the Washington County State Prison System as a counselor. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson Academy in 1983 where she participated in softball, basketball and track. She attended ABAC College in Tifton and received her bachelor of science degree from Georgia College in Milledgeville. She was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Graveside services were Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Bethesda Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with Stephen D. Posey speaking.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Brett; a son, Ty Brett; a daughter, Anna Brett; her parents, Murray and Gloria Gardner Jr., Bartow; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Gardner, Plains; maternal grandmother, Vama Stanger, Caldwell, Id.; one brother and sister-in-law, Lee Murray and Jeri Gardner III, Bartow; and eight nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were members of the Thomas Jefferson Academy Football Team, Stephen Logua, J.W. Gordy, Steve Martin, Taylor Seeloff, David Jackson, Rob Holley and Christopher Mathis.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Thomas Jefferson Academy Football team.

Memorials may be made to Thomas Jefferson Academy, 2264 Hwy. 1 North, Louisville, GA 30434.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Alma Jewell Foshee
Mrs. Alma Jewell Foshee, 86, of Wrens died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004.

Mrs. Foshee, a native of Muscogee County, was a member at First Baptist Church of Columbus. She is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Foshee.

Graveside services were Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Wrens City cemetery with Dr. James Ford officiating.

Survivors include one son, William D. Foshee III, Dawsonville; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Wrens United Methodist Church Building Fund, 202 Russell St. NW, Wrens, GA 30833; or Wrens Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 N. Main St. NE, Wrens, GA 30833.

James C. Bennett
Mr. James C. Bennett of Stapleton died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Bennett, a native of Duval County, Fla., was self employed and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

The funeral was Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Atkinson officiating. Burial was at Wrens Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Dolly Bennett; three sons, James Clinton Bennett Jr., Wrens, Gary Bennett, Cumberland, Pa., and Robert Bennett, Wrens; two daughters, Teresa Wicker, Norfols, Va., and Julie Raines, Jewlett; a brother, Carlton Bennett, Munford, Ala.; two sisters, Mary Passmore, Blairsville, and Erma Hill, Jacksonville, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jack Borders, Tony Garin, Lloyd Brassell, William Hammond, Shane Buck, John Jones, Anthony Gains and Lee Roy King.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, 9346 Hwy. 1 N, Louisville, GA 30434.

Carolyn H. Raley
Mrs. Carolyn H. Raley of Macon died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004.

Mrs. Raley was born in Spartanburg, S.C. She was the daughter of the late Alfred B. and Lena Kitchens Hattaway. She was a member of Tatnall Square Baptist Church and the Ruth Bible Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd E. Raley and a son F. Robert Raley.

The funeral was Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park's Mausoleum.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Raley (John) Fortson, Apple River, Ill.; two sons, Bill (Daphine) Raley, Mitchell, and Joel (Diane) Raley, Bolingbroke; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the building fund of Tatnall Square Baptist Church, 4925 Zebulon Road, Macon, GA 31210; or the Alzheimer's Association, 277 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Suite 201, Macon, GA 31201; or the charity of one's choice.

Snow's Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Margaret Louise Brown Flournoy
Mrs. Margaret Louise Brown Flournoy, 50, of Louisville died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004.

Mrs. Flournoy was a member of Lofton AME Church and was employed as a certified manufacturing specialist at Thermo King Corp.

Survivors include her husband, Leotis Flournoy; two sons, Melvin and Derrick Brown, Wrens; her mother, Lucille Brown, Wrens; two stepdaughters, Veronica Lofton, Rex, and Monica Flournoy, Morrow; two sisters, Martha Thomas and Beverly Wilson, Wrens; three brothers, Phil and Hue Brown, Wrens, and Gregory Brown, Martinez; and eight grandchildren.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Fannie Oliphant
Ms. Fannie Oliphant, 71, of Wrens died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004.

The funeral was Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Thompson Springhill AME Church with the Rev. Charlie Myricks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Allen Oliphant, Brooklyn, NY; her mother, Estelle Oliphant, Brooklyn; an aunt, Geneva Thomas, Matthews; and three devoted cousins, Janice Wright, Hephzibah, Crystal Walker and Cathy Berry, Wrens.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Marlene Irby Chalker
Mrs. Marlene Irby Chalker, 70, of Avera died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Chalker, a native of Glascock County, lived in Jefferson County most of her life. She was a member of the Gibson Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy E. Chalker and son Tony Chalker.

The funeral was Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy White officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Terry and Frank Parrish, Stapleton; a son and his wife, Derry T. and Lisa T. Chalker, Virginia Beach, Va.; three sisters, Jenene Walden, Avera, Ethel Davis, Thomson, and Mildred Phillips, Gibson; grandchildren, Toni Lynn Brooks, Paul F. Parrish Jr., Clay Parrish, Cody Parrish, Tony Chalker, Derry Chalker and Victoria Chalker; and great-grandchildren, Jared Brooks and Candence Parrish.

Pallbearers were Richard Walden, Keith Walden, Greg Walden, Paul F. Parrish Jr., G.H. Cosby and Andrew Hayes.

Sheppard Funeral Home, Gibson, was in charge of the arrangements.

Nina M. Prickett
Mrs. Nina M. Prickett, 84, of Wrens died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Prickett was a native of Jefferson County. She attended New House of Worship and is preceded in death by her husband, Lee A. Prickett.

The funeral was Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Walden officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Sally L. Ogletree, Thomson; eight sons, Eddie Lee Prickett, Charles Prickett, Allen Prickett, Ronnie Prickett and Donnie Prickett, Matthews, Bobby Prickett, Wrens, William Prickett, Thomson, and Lewis Prickett, Blythe; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Daniel Amerson, Jason Albea, David Ogletree, Ron Prickett, Craig Prickett and Michael Prickett.

Joseph H. "Joey" Zorn III
Sheriff Joseph H. "Joey" Zorn III, 49, of Barnwell, S.C. died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004.

Mr. Zorn, sheriff of Barnwell County, was a member and deacon of Friendship Baptist Church, Gideon International, Harmony Masonic Lodge #17, Barnwell Rotary Club, Ellenton Agriculture Club, S.C. Sheriff's Association, S.C. Law Enforcement Association, National Sheriff's Association and Barnwell County TAG Enforcement Association.

The funeral was Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. in the Barnwell First Baptist Church. Burial was in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Delk Zorn; his parents, Joe and Cleo Zorn, Barnwell; a daughter, Jessica Zorn, Barnwell; three sons, Josh, Rodney and Russell Zorn, Barnwell; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Tommy Tyner, Abbeville, S.C.; mother and father-in-law, Jimmy and Faye Delk, Beech Island, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Theresa Delk, Wrens; and four nieces.

Freddie L. Parker Sr.
Mr. Freddie L. Parker Sr., 42, of Warrenton died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004.

The funeral was Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Gibson, with the Rev. L. Medlock and the Rev. C. Newton officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Parker, Gibson; a daughter, Tara Roberts, Wrens; a son, Freddie L. Parker Jr., Stapleton; two sisters, Shirley Parker, Warrenton, and Marsha Parker, Gibson; three brothers, Jerry Parker, Gibson, Randy Parker, Stapleton, and Billy Joe Wilson, Warrenton; one grandchild; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The Dawson's Mortuary, Warrenton, was in charge of the arrangements.

Phyllis Hannah Jackson
Mrs. Phyllis Hannah Jackson of Lithia Springs, formerly of Wrens, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, at Cobb Hospital in Austell.

Funeral services will be Oct. 7 at noon at New Unity Missionary Baptist Church, 3675 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, NW, Atlanta, with Elder Tony Smith officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Harmony Cemetery, Mableton.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Jackson; two daughters, Teyonna F. Jackson and Charita M. Jackson, both of Lithia Springs; one brother, Steven (Faith) Hannah, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Daphanie Beasley, Avera, and Gale Hannah, Wrens; her mother-in-law, Clara B. Jackson, Columbus; and several other relatives.

Simpson & Daughters Mortuary Inc., Douglasville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Dea. Henry Lee Jordan Jr., 72, of Wrens died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Dea. Jordan was a WWII veteran.

The funeral was Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Ways Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy McCullough officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jordan; three sisters, Margaret Louise Hudson and Evelyn Jordan, both of Wrens and Elease Heath of Louisville; two brothers, Leroy Jordan and Eddie Jordan, both of Wrens; four stepsons, Horace Whitfield, Thomas Whitfield, both of Augusta, Charles Whitfield, Atlanta, and Charles Whitfield, Bartow, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Alberta McBride Johnson
Mrs. Alberta McBride Johnson of Wadley died on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004.

The funeral was Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Amelia Johnson Brown, Swainsboro, and Barbara Johnson Dula, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sons, Clarence Ray Johnson, Waxsaw, N.C., and Wayne Johnson, Pahokee, Fla.; one sister, Georgia McBride, Clewiston, Fla.; 19 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
