Mrs. Mary Martha Langham, 84, of Augusta, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at her residence.

Mrs. Langham, a native of Thomson, was a homemaker and a member of Curtis Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Bennie B. Langham.

The funeral was July 22 at 11 a.m. at PoteeSt Funeral Home, South Chapel with Dr. Mark Harris officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley B. Langham, Jacksonville, Fla., and William H. Langham, Warrenton; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Laura, Brett, Stephanie and Preston; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Steve Langham, Colin Stoutamire, Ralph Starling, Keith Harris, Thomas Beckworth and Tim Tuten. Memorial contributions may be made to Curtis Baptist Church, 1326 Broad St., Augusta, GA 30901, or American Red Cross, 1322 Ellis St., Augusta, GA 30901.

Peter Nadel
Mr. Peter Nadel, 55, of Atlanta died Monday, July 26, 2004.

The funeral was July 28 at 4 p.m. at Lee's Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be July 29 at Green Lawn Cemetery, Pageland, SC.

Survivors include his daughter, Ginger and Skip Murray, Charleston, SC; his brothers, Marc and Sonia Nadel, Duluth, and Steve and Laura Nadel, Peachtree City; his parents, Ben and Lila Nadel, Louisville; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, 5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338 or Hospice of one's choice.

Mr. Wiggerson Gibbons Sr. died Monday, July 19, 2004.

Mr. Gibbons was a native of Jefferson County.

The funeral was July 26 at 1 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and cemetery with the Rev. Abraham Gibbons officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Hill Gibbons of Elkhart, Ind.; his children, Angela Harden, Gracie Gibbons, Wiggerson Gibbons Jr., Tony Gibbons, Tyrone Gibbons and Levon Brantley, Louisville; his father, Edgar "Jetto" Gibbons, Louisville; father-in-law, Sylvester Hill Sr., Louisville; siblings, Gracie Jones, Calif., Cleo Stone, Sandersville, Pearlie M. Stone, Tommie Stone, Albert Stone, Ricky Stone, Davisboro, Fred Stone Jr., Milledgeville, Mary Hatcher, Savannah, Otis Gibbons, Louisville, John Gibbons, Robert Gibbons, Willie Gibbons, Tome Kelly, New Jersey, and Edward Gibbons, Ft. Lauderdale; eight grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, two aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Justin Richard Smith
Mr. Justin Richard Smith, 21, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Sunday, July 18, 2004.

Mr. Smith was a graduate of Jefferson County High School where he played football. He was employed by Jacksonville U-Pull-A-Part and Save. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, Wadley.

Graveside services were July 24 at 11 a.m. at Wadley cemetery with the Rev. Patrick Owens officiating.

Survivors include his mother, Jacquelin Willingham; his father, Richard W. and Aletha Smith; his brothers, Charles Smith, Cecil Smith and Scott Griffis; his sisters, Andreana and Alton McNeely, Daria and Roger Fleming and Clara Smith; grandparents, Charles and Wynell Seymour, Mr. and Mrs. Archie C. Smith and Jeannine Brinkhoff.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Geraldine Parrish Weede
Mrs. Geraldine Parrish Weede of Chipley, Fla., died Monday, July 26, 2004.

Mrs. Weede, a native of Wrens, lived for many years in Augusta and then Chipley. She graduated from Wrens High School and Georgia Baptist School of Nursing. She retired from the VA Hospital after 40 years of nursing. She was a member of Bible Deliverance in Augusta and attended Holmes Creek Baptist Church in Chipley.

The funeral will be July 30 at 2 p.m. at Bible Deliverance Temple, Fenwick Street in Augusta. Burial will be at Westover cemetery in Augusta. The family will receive visitors at the home of Libby Parrish, 106 Ramsgate Dr., Wrens, or at Platt's Funeral Home on Crawford Ave. in Augusta on July 29 from 6 - 8 p.m.

Survivors include a son, Samuel J. Weede, Chipley; a daughter, Sammie Sue Hester, Augusta; a brother, Randall R. Parish, Wrens; two sisters, Libby Parrish, Wrens, and Joy Young, Flat Rock, NC; a granddaughter, Kyle Hester; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randy Parish, Matthew Howard, Parish Howard, Marcus Howard, Douglas Young, John Huff Parish, Chuck Maile and Henry Sasser.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, P.O. Box 7, Wrens, GA 30833; or Bible Deliverance Temple, 1857 Fenwick St., Augusta, GA 30904.

Platt's Funeral Home, Augusta, is in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby Gibbons
Rev. Bobby Gibbons of Hephzibah died Monday, July 12, 2004, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Rev. Gibbons, a native of Jefferson County, joined the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church at an early age. He later moved to Richmond County. He was later ordained as a minister and was one of the Sons of the House at Hardeman. He was a self-employed truck driver.

The funeral was July 17 at 2 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church with the Revs. Fredrick Ricks and Perry Daniels officiating.

Survivors include his children, Marilyn and John Davis, Louisville, Dorothy Johnson, Bobbie Ann and William Washington and Karen and Richard Berry, Hephzibah, Kelvin Gibbons, Atlanta, Joyce and Anthony Jordan, College Park, and Jerel Gibbons, Ellenwood; one brother, Adam Gibbons, Louisville; one sister, Essie Roberts, Avera; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Terrence Davis, John Davis Jr., Antoin Davis, Keith Johnson Jr., Eric Johnson, Derell Washington, Kelvin Davis and Earl Roberts.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church.

John Hardy Hall Jr.
Mr. John Hardy Hall Jr., 74, of Keysville died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital.

Mr. Hall, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Wrens Baptist Church. He retired from government civilian service at Ft. Benning after a long career as an electronic technician. He was also retired from the Army National Guard.

The funeral was July 16 at 4 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Race Lariscy and Dr. Robert Lehn officiating. Burial was at Keysville Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Gunn Hall; three sons, John Hardy (Sherry) Hall III, North Augusta, SC, J. Kenneth (Brenda) Hall, Cataula, and Jeff (Wanda) Hall, Columbus; a sister, Eloise Hall Wood, Flintstone five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and a niece.

Pallbearers were Sid Smith, Jim Hall, Don Hall, Colin Gordy, Mike Hooks and Ray Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were the Goldtimers Sunday School Class, Westside Baptist Church and the Willis Clark Sunday School Class, Wrens Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904-4726.

Mattie Boyd Smith
Mrs. Mattie Boyd Smith died Monday, July 12, 2004, at the Kingbrook Jewish Hospital in Brooklyn, NY.

Mrs. Smith, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Robert and Eunice Boatwright Boyd. She joined Spring Bethel AME Church and Spring Bethel Benevolent Society at an early age. In 1945 she relocated to New York and joined the Emanuel Baptist where she served as president of the Missionary. She was also a member of the Neighbor Block Association.

The funeral was June 20 at 1 p.m. at Spring Bethel AME Church with the Rev. Andrew Brown officiating. Burial was in Spring Bethel Benevolent Society Cemetery.

Survivors include two children, Nancy Jean Aiken and Margaret Boyd, Brooklyn; two step-children, Tina Smith and Mary Harvard; two sisters, Elouise Chaneyfield, Louisville, and Daisy Mae Richardson, Brooklyn; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Carrie Reese Sheppard
Mrs. Carrie Reese Sheppard, 89, of Avera, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Sheppard, a native of Glascock County, was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she served as the Children's Sunday School teacher for 42 years and a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She is predeceased by her husband, Leo Sheppard.

The funeral was July 20 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. C. Roy Smith and Donald Lumpkin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Bobbie S. and Lamar Kitchens, Avera; two sons, James and Susan Sheppard, Stapleton, and Tommy and Karen Sheppard, Avera; five grandchildren, Dr. Chris and Kayleigh Sheppard, Gary Kitchens, Kellen Sheppard, April Arrington and Heather Sheppard; two great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Lawson Sheppard; and a special cousin, Mrs. Hazel Thompson, Avera.

Pallbearers were Johnny Crutchfield, Delton Hadden, Sam T. Hadden, Russell Clark, Gary Allen and Jimmy Reese.

Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund in care of Bobbie Kitchens, 1092 Oak St., Avera, GA 30803.

Paul Casey Whisanant
Paul Casey Whisanant, 16, of Commerce died Friday, July 16, 2004, at Athens Regional Hospital.

The funeral was July 19 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs. Mitchell Appleby and Steve Whisanant officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Rhonda H. Whisanant; his father and stepmother, Tim and Ann Whisanant, Wadley; two brothers, Daniel Reed Whisanant, Commerce, and Christopher Cody Whisanant, Wadley; two sisters, Gabriel Hope Whisanant, Commerce, and Adrianna Whisanant, Wadley; grandparents, Harold and Lois Whisanant, Arcade, and Ina and William Herron, Commerce; and his great-grandmother, Fannie Lee Whisanant, Commerce.

S.T. Darisaw
Mr. S.T. Darisaw of Louisville died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Old Heritage Nursing Home.

Mr. Darisaw, a native of Johnson County, had lived in Jefferson County most of his life. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. He was a retiree of Coffee Construction after 50 years of service.

The funeral was July 10 at 3 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Wright White Jr. officiating and the Rev. Peter Sparks assisting. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Lue Darisaw; daughters, Dorothy Scott, Teresa Brooks, Annette Williams and Jeanette Hickson, all of Louisville; adopted son, Willie J. Miller of Louisville; eight children he reared, Ruby Miller, Lutisha Taylor, Agnes Frances, Joe Wright, Janice Hill, Sharon Tucker, Telly Tucker and Flem Tucker; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers were Eric Darisaw, Vinson Miller, Wayne Darisaw, Eugene Natson Jr., Rufus Florence and Charlie Brady.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and trustees of Pine Hill Baptist Church.

Lessie Bell Jordan
Mrs. Lessie Bell Jordan of Fayetteville died Saturday, June 19, 2004.

Mrs. Jordan, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Mamie Marion and Ike Bethea Jr. She attended Jefferson County School System and joined Pine Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She is predeceased by her husband, Obadiah "Obe" Jordan Sr., and her son, Obadiah Jordan Jr.

Funeral services were June 26 at 1 p.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in Atlanta.

Survivors include her daughter, Anne (Glover) Graves, Fayetteville; a daughter-in-law, Ethel Lockhart Jordan, Atlanta; her sisters, Mrs. Ada Lee Smith, Wrens, Mrs. Annie L. James, New Haven, Ct.; her brothers, Ike Bethea III, Sam Willie Bethea and Samuel Bethea, Atlanta; sister-in-law, Mrs. Marie Jordan, Waycross; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
