George Brown
Mr. George Brown, 57, of Wrens died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Brown, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in Passaic, NJ, for over 30 years before returning to Jefferson County two years ago. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church.

The funeral was Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church and cemetery with the Rev. Peter Sparks officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie Hannah Brown, Wrens; his children, Pamela Gainous, Paul Tyrone Brown, Wrens, and Kenneth Brown, New Jersey; adopted son, Isaiah Curtis, Passaic, NJ; his siblings, Dave Brown Jr., Lenora Brown, James Brown, Passaic, NJ, Evelyn B. Howard, Louisville, John Henry Brown, Irvington, NJ, Essie Gordon, Louisville, Judy Brown, Pocono, Penn., and Edward Lewis, Philadelphia, Penn.; four grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; two aunts; one uncle; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Susan Harris Case
Mrs. Susan Harris Case, 65, died at her home in Marietta on Feb. 16, 2004.

A native of Wrens, Mrs. Case graduated from Wrens High School where she was an outstanding athlete, leader and honor student. After high school she followed the tradition of her father and her Harris relatives by attending The University of Georgia where she graduated with a degree in special education. She spent most of her teaching career at Walton High School, Marietta, where she was known as an exceptional teacher and one especially devoted to her students. She was a former member of Wrens United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Case is survived by one son, David (Suzanne) Case, Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Cathy Colquitt, Lawrenceville, and Lee Anne (Darin) Rice, Smyrna; and four grandchildren, Jared and Aidan Colquitt, and three-month-old twins, Evan and Ashlee Rice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Waldo and Louise Foster Harris and two brothers, Charles, who died in 1965 and one who died in infancy in 1932.

Funeral services were held at The Catholic Church of St. Ann, Marietta, on Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. with Father Gerry Barif, M.S. officiating. Interment was held at the J.R. Harris square, Wrens Memorial Cemetery, at 11 a.m. on Feb. 20 with the Rev. Roy White of Wrens United Methodist Church delivering the eulogy and David Case reading scripture.

H.M. Patterson and Son of Marietta and James Funeral Home of Wrens were in charge of the arrangements.

Garvin B. Chalker
Mr. Garvin B. Chalker, 66, of Gibson died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Chalker, a native of Glascock County, was employed by the Georgia Forestry Commission for 29 years in Glascock and Jefferson Counties before retiring. He was a member of the Glascock County Jaycees and attended Fellowship Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, B.A. Chalker and two sisters, Edna Bowen and Margaret Thompson.

The funeral was Feb. 3 at 3 p.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church wit the Revs. Carter Hudson and Bill Seaman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Tannie Jo Chalker; three daughters, Wanda (Ronny) Wood, Gibson, Sherri (Sean) Epps, Thomson, and Tanya (Ron) Martin, Harlem; two brothers, Calvin Chalker, Gibson, and Don Chalker, Lincolnton; one sister, Ruth Reese, Martinez; and five grandchildren, Bobby and Jerry Wood, Haley and Casey Epps and Jared Martin.

Pallbearers were Gregory Milburn, Joey Chalker, John Jones, Joe Dean Usry, Jerry Wood and Lee Griffin.

Honorary pallbearers were employees of the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church, c/o Mrs. Elsie Milburn, 712 Calhoun St., Gibson, GA 30810.

Lola Lee "Coonie" Dudley
Ms. Lola Lee "Coonie" Dudley, 52, of Louisville died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004.

Ms. Dudley was a native of Jefferson County and a member of the Adams Chapel Church of God in Christ.

The funeral will be Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. at Adams Chapel Church of God with the Rev. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant CME Church in Bartow.

Survivors include her children, Joe Dudley, Stacey Dudley Brown, Dwight Dudley, John "Adam" Dudley, Travis Dudley and Charlie Johnson Jr., all of Louisville; her siblings, Mary Wynn, Brnice Dudley and Moses Clay Dudley, Louisville; Betty Lee Jones, Norfolk, Conn., Joe Dudley and Robert Lee Brown, Los Angeles, Calif.; a devoted mate, Charlie Johnson Sr.; grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Emily Thompson Fleming
Mrs. Emily Thompson Fleming, 79, of Louisville died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004.

Mrs. Fleming, a native of Jefferson County, was the widow of the late Rush Fleming. She was a member of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church, the Jefferson County Senior Center and the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society.

The funeral was Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. at the Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and cemetery with the Rev. Fredrick Ricks officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Lessie Mae Gibbons, Louisville; one sister, Essie Mae Hilton, Louisville; three grandchildren, Gwenda Gibbons, Karen Gibbons and Terry Gibbons, all of Louisville; one son-in-law; 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren, one uncle, two nieces, one nephew and several cousins.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

June Veal Haulbrook
Mrs. June Veal Haulbrook, 74, of Thomson died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Haulbrook was a member of Thomson Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School to the Kindergarten and Primary grades for 15 years.

The funeral was Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Cook and Chaplain Wayne Bruner officiating. Burial was in the Wrens City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Hoyt A. Haulbrook; a daughter, Harriet Haulbrook, Augusta; a son, Danny Hoyt Haulbrook, Mesquite, Texas; her mother Carrie Wren Veal Oliver, Wrens; one sister, Patty (White) Kitchens, Wrens; three grandchildren, Daniel Austin Haulbrook, Erin Haulbrook and Bethany Haulbrook; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA 30904 or the Thomson Presbyterian Church.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

David Shelton
Mr. David Shelton of Thomson died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004.

Mr. Shelton, a native of Glascock County, had lived in the Columbia-McDuffie County area most of his life. He was retired as a mechanic supervisor after 38 years with Thomson Company. He was a member of Hill Baptist Church.

The funeral was Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with his son, the Rev. Ronnie Shelton, officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Janelle Black Shelton; two sons, Ronnie (Janet) Shelton and Dwight (Donna) Shelton, both of Thomson; a brother, Moses Shelton, Wrens; a sister, Mildred Coxwell, Wrens; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Abe Shelton, Roger Coxwell, Billy Williford, Randy Black, Tony Black and Thomas Shelton.

Lamar Thomas
Mr. Lamar Thomas of Wadley died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004.

The funeral was Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley with Minister Fredrick Thomas officiating. Burial was in the Kite cemetery in Kite, Johnson County.

Survivors include two daughters, Frankie Mae Ogleby, Tampa, Fla., and Elizabeth Thomas, Wadley; one sister, Estella Mills Jones, Willingboro, NJ; two brothers, Willie Lewis Mills, Wadley, and Leroy Thomas, Philadelphia, Pa.; six grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Heather Dyann Ware
Mrs. Heather Dyann Ware, 22, of Wadley died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004.

The funeral was Feb. 23 at 2 p.m. at Hopeful Baptist Church in Blythe with Pastor Greg Glover officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Gary Wilson Ware Jr.; a son, Gauge C. Guy; her parents, George and Nancy Guy; a sister, Rebecca Guy; a brother, Sam Guy; maternal grandparents, U.S. Army Retired Major Sam and Edna Norris; paternal grandmother Ella Mae Guy; father and mother-in-law, Gary and Ann Ware Sr.; a special cousin, Melinda Sims; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Guy, Jon Jones, Jon Tam, Cris Cliett, Lin Cliett and George Sims Jr.

Memorials may be made to the Hopeful Baptist Church Building Fund.

Wanda Sue Snow Boone
Mrs. Wanda Sue Snow Boone, 65, of Aiken, SC, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Mrs. Boone, a native of Lexington, Tenn., was the daughter of the late Porter and Bertha Mae Brown Snow. She lived in Wrens for several years and had lived in Aiken for the past 22 years.

Graveside services were Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. at Sunset Memory Gardens. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Eugene Boone.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas J. Boone; two sons, Thomas Anthony Boone and Michael Allen Boone; two sisters, Truma Rhodes, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Marjorie Nell Gilliam, Lexington, Tenn.; a brother, Billy R. Snow, Chattanooga, Tenn.; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, Aiken, was in charge of the arrangements.

Leslie Anne Jones Brannen
Mrs. Leslie Anne Jones Brannen, 30, of Metter died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004.

Mrs. Brannen, a native of Montgomery County, Ala., had lived in Metter for the past 10 years. She was an accountant with Dabbs, Hickman, Hill and Cannon, CPA in Statesboro. She formerly worked for the State Department of Banking and Finance as a bank examiner. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Metter.

The funeral was Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home, Hooks Chapel. Burial was in Lake Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Travis Brannen; a son, Jameson Chase Brannen; a daughter, Lindsey Regan Brannen; her parents, Carl and Sarah Jones, Metter; and a brother, Britt Jones, Statesboro.

Kennedy-Morgan Funeal Homes, Hooks Chapel in Metter was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert E. Brassell
Mr. Robert E. Brassell, 70, of Gibson died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Washington County Regional Medical Center in Sandersville.

Mr. Brassell, a native of Glascock County, was an Army veteran. He was retired from Overnight Road Driver after 30 plus years of service. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Survivors include his wife, Zona Brassel; one son, Robert E. (Venice) Brassell Jr., Arab, Ala.; one daughter, Diane B. (Kim) Kitchens, Gibson; two sisters, Martha B. Story and Nell Williford, both of Augusta; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Frank Youngblood, Jimmy Wilcher, Larry May, Eddie Miller, Barry Robertson and Billy Coffee.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

David Forehand
Dr. David Forehand of Atlanta died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004.

Dr. Forehand, a native of Perry, was co-owner of Buckhead Animal Hospital in Atlanta. He served as president of the Animal Emergency Clinic, chairman of the Atlanta Dog Jog, board member of the Atlanta Humane Society and president of Greater Atlanta Veterinary Medical Society.

A memorial service was held Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. at Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta with Dr. James Collins officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Lee Forehand; and two sisters, Sandi Talton, Perry, and Lisa Johnson, Albany; and an aunt, Jewell Forehand Smith, Louisville.

H.M. Patterson & Son Spring Hill was in charge of the arrangements.

Harry J. Galloway
Mr. Harry J. Galloway, 80, of Gibson died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004.

Mr. Galloway, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., was an Army veteran and served his country in WWII where he earned several medals and commendations. He was in the civil service for 37 years and served as Civilian Personnel Officer at Ft. Gordon from 1970 until he retired in 1983. He was a member of Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Anita Black Galloway, and a son, John Steven Galloway.

The funeral was Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with the Rev. Al Kurtz officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include four sons, Harry J. Galloway Jr., Belvidere, Ill., Stanley T. Galloway, San Antonio, Texas, Sidney Galloway, Augusta, and Scott M. Galloway, Boyton Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Sharon P. Galloway, Augusta; one sister, Virginia Matlock, Lakeland, Fla.; and the children's mother, Mrs. Mary Louise Galloway; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Roy Black, Russell Greiner, Eddie Kelley, Charles Roberts Jr., Roy Thomas Black, Steve White and Tommy Harper.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church, c/o Lonna Deraney, 7448 Hwy. 123, Mitchell, GA 30820.
