John Wesley Smith
Mr. John Wesley Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004.
Mr. Smith, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Arthur and Georgia Walker Smith. He attended Jefferson County Training School and served in the United States Army for four years during World War II achieving the rank of Corporal. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed at the United States Senate Office Building. He retired in 1980 as Labor Foreman after 35 years of service. He also operated his own television repair service on a part-time basis. He was a member of Turner Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church where he served as a Steward.
Survivors include four children, Emma Tarleton, West River, Md., Georgie Montgomery, Landover, Md., Wesley Leon Smith, Hague, Va., and Betty Habershon, Fort Washington, Md.; six sisters and four brothers, Hattie Mae Holloway, Keysville, Eunice Hannah, Louisville, Evelyn Johnson, Altamonte Springs, Fla., Daisy Caldwell and Marion Hazley, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., Doretha Yates, Ocala, Fla., Lewis Walter Smith and Henry Smith, both of Washington, DC, Arthur Smith Jr., Apoka, Fla., and Charles Haynes, Deltona, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Harriet L. Farmer
Miss Harriet L. Farmer, 89, of Louisville died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.
Miss Farmer, a native of Louisville, was the daughter of the late Robert Lewis and Elizabeth Little Farmer Sr. She was a retired kindergarten teacher after 40 years of teaching. She was a member of the Associate Reform Presbyterian Church in Louisville where she was a Sunday School teacher for 70 years.
Graveside services were held Jan. 25 at 2:30 p.m. in the Louisville City cemetery with the Rev. Mike Hendrick officiating.
Survivors include three nieces, Doris Farmer Irwin, Roswell, Martha Farmer Bears, Inkom, Id., and Mary Farmer, Elicott City, Md.
Pallbearers were John Mancin, John Murphy, Dr. Jim Polhill, Joe Cox, Sam Clark and Dr. John Bloomer Sr.

Juston Dogan Sr.
Mr. Juston Dogan Sr., 77, of Louisville died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Mr. Dogan, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of New Hope AME Church where he served as a Steward, Trustee, Church Treasurer and Finance Committee for over 20 years. He was employed at Burns Manufacturing (located at the same sight as Thermo King) and several skilled jobs before retiring after 27 years in 1990 from Thermo King/Ingersoll Rand.
The funeral was Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. at New Hope AME Church with the Revs. Robert Edwards, Perry Daniels, Dennis Thompson and Fredrick Ricks officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dora I. Dogan; his children, Willie Mae (Joe) Thompson, Jutson "JD" (Gail) Dogan Jr., Catherine (Charles) Hilton, Walter (Linda) Dogan, Glenise (Lester) Dixon, Geneva Dogan, Billy Dogan Sr. and Bessie (Gene) Boyd, Louisville, Dr. Janette Dogan, Warner Robins, Mae Frances Dogan-Sampson, Augusta, Bobby (Vanessa) Dogan, Wadley and Belinda Dogan, Conyers; one sister, Jennie M. Brian Keith Allen
Mr. Brian Keith Allen, 32, of St. Marys died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004.
Mr. Allen, a native of Savannah, has been a lifelong resident of St. Marys. He attended Camden local schools and was a 1989 graduate of Camden County High. He was employed by Gilman Paper Co. for 13 years until it closed. He was working with Edo Miller Camden Chapel as an apprentice funeral director and embalmer while going to mortuary school. He attended Lighthouse Church of God.
The funeral was Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. at Lighthouse Church of God with the Rev. Bobby woods officiating. Burial was in Lawnwood Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Shanda Allen; a son, C.J. Allen; his parents, Harry and Sue Allen, Kingsland; and two brothers, Eric (Marla) Allen, Woodbine, and Steve (Elaine) Allen, St. Marys.
Pallbearers were Ron Kelley, Ricky Kelley, Vic Hall, Shannon Gibson, Shane Grews and Donnie Sylvester.

Agnes Lucille Prickett
Mrs. Agnes Lucille Prickett, 82, of Wrens died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004.
Mrs. Prickett, a native of Burke County, had lived in Wrens most of her life. She is preceded in death by her husband Andrew Prickett and two sons, Talmage Prickett and Samuel Prickett.
The funeral was Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Collison and Walt Smith officiating.
Survivors include one son, Donald Prickett, Matthews; six daughters, Betty Prickett, Wrens, Ann Unruh, Ark., Martha Tobias, Sardis, Ellen Swint, Augusta, Judy Flake, Sardis, and Alma Onley, Stapleton; one sister, Mamie Widener, Keysville; 33 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren.

Ola Mae Jones Robinson
Mrs. Ola Mae Jones Robinson of Bartow died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, in Dublin.
The funeral was Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at Jones Chapel CME Church with the Rev. Mack Thomas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include five daughter, Louise Dixon, Long Beach, Calif., Corine Daniels, Newark, NJ, Willie Jean Hicks, Jacksonville, Fla., Betty Jean Tarver, East Dublin, and Mary Lee Coston, Newport News, Va.; four sons, Remus Robinson and Alvin Robinson, Syracuse, NY, Verlon Robinson, Albany, and Quincey Robinson, Bartow.

Irene LaFavor Usry
Mrs. Irene LaFavor Usry, 97, of Gibson died Thuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Usry, a native of Johnson County, had lived in Glascock County most of her life. She was a member of the Gibson United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 35 years. She graduated from Wrens Institute with a teaching certificate. She earned a B.S. degree from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She also received her Master's of Education degree from Georgia Southern College in Statesboro. She was retired from the Georgia school system where she taught in Glascock and Jefferson counties for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Marvin Usry.
The funeral was Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. at Gibson United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Seaman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, James (Mary) Usry, Harlem, and Doug (Nancy) Usry, Americus; one daughter, Clara Milburn, Gibson; 18 grandchildren and a host of great and great great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons.

Mary Rhodes Bagwell
Ms. Mary Rhodes Bagwell, 95, of Buford died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004.
Ms. Bagwell, a native of Bartow, taught public schools in Fulton County for 50 years. She was a graduate of Andrews College and Oglethorpe University and was a member of Duluth First Baptist Church where she served as pianist.
The funeral was Jan. 19 at 11 a.m. at Duluth First Baptist Church. Burial was in Duluth City Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, Jack Bagwell, Greenville, SC; a daughter, Carolyn Allen, Buford; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Annie Battle
Mrs. Annie Battle, 88, of Wadley died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mrs. Battle, a lifelong resident of Wadley, was a homemaker. She was a member of Wadley United Methodist Church, Morning Circle, Kate Stokes Sunday School class and an honorary member of the Administrative Board.
The funeral was Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. at Wadley First United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Sauls officiating. Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Wayne (Rebecca) Battle, Wadley; a daughter, Joanne (Bill) Blount, Meridian, Miss.; three sisters, Florence Masters, White Plains, NY, Marjorie Stevens, Wadley, and Roslyn Dobbs, McDonough; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Johnny M. "Big Red" Brown, 55, of Wrens died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004.
The funeral was Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. at Lofton AME Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Lucile Thompson-Brown; brothers, Eddie Hue Brown, Phil Brown and Gregory Brown; and sisters, Martha Jean Thomas-Goodson, Margaret Flournoy and Beverly Wilson.

Joseph Thomas "Tommy" Jackson Jr.
Mr. Joseph Thomas "Tommy" Jackson Jr., 42, of Jesup died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004.
Mr. Jackson was a former automobile mechanic. He was a 1980 graduate of Screven County High School and attended Ogeechee Tech in Statesboro. He had formerly served in the Georgia Air National Guard.
Graveside services were held Jan. 18 at 2:30 p.m. in the Jesup City cemetery with the Rev. James Carter officiating.

Mr. Bert Norris died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004.
Mr. Norris, a native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., was the son of Bert Norris and Dorothy Morgan Norris. He was the founder of Security Fence Company and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and Green Meadows Golf Club.

Mr. Lorenzo Thomas Sr., 53, of Wrens died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Thomas was a native of Jefferson County but lived in Florida for several years before returning to Jefferson County.
The funeral was Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at Wrens Seventh Day Adventist Church with Elder Henry Lewis officiating.

Dorothy Avera Ahouse
Mrs. Dorothy Avera Ahouse, 88, of Statesville, NC, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.
Mrs. Ahouse, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late William Oscar Avera and Georgia Elizabeth Killebrew Avera. She was a graduate of Wrens High School and Teachers College in San Antonio, Texas. She was a former school teacher and was retired as a medical secretary with the Medical College of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Bernard Ahouse Sr. and a son, William Curry Ahouse.
The funeral was Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta with the Rev. Robert Fain officiating.
Survivors include a son, Franklin Bernard Ahouse Jr., Albany; a daughter, Catherine Ahouse Marshall, Statesville; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
