Miss Emma Lou Best of Wadley died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004.

The funeral was Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley with the Rev. Ronnie Harden officiating.

Survivors include her mother, Dinetta Hodges Best, Wadley; her father, Bobby Joe Best, Wadley; one sister, Angela Denise Best, Louisville; three brothers Jamison Hodges, Jacksonville, Fla., and Jerome Best and Tanisala Joe Best, Wadley.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Maude Lee Bell Borum
Mrs. Maude Lee Bell Borum, 93, of Florence, SC died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at Southland Health Care Center.

Mrs. Borum was a member of First Rebecca Baptist Church in Macon. She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen James Borum Sr.

A graveside service was held Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Macon with Dr. Sheehan officiating.

Survivors include three sons, Allen Borum Jr., Wrens, Alvin Borum, Florence, SC, and Melvin Borum, Casselberry, Fla.; one sister, Gladys Durden, Valley Spring, Calif.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lonzie Davis Sr.
Mr. Lonzie Davis Sr., 80, of Avera died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004.

Mr. Davis, a native of Jefferson County, was a retired custodian and farmer and a member and steward of Sandvalley AME Church.

The funeral was Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. at Sandvalley AME Church with the Revs. Leroy Britt, Carl Simmons, Portia Jones, Perry Daniels, Dennis Thompson, Charles King and David Batts officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Gussie Wells Davis; his children, James A. (Laura) Davis, Homestead, Fla., Mary D. Kelly, Louisville, Carolyn (Danny) Swint, Avera, Jasper (Joan) Davis, Milledgeville, and Cathelin King, Macon; his sisters, Bernice Jones, Milledgeville and Catherine Harris, Atlanta; one brother, A.C. Terrell, Oakland, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; 28 grandchildren; a god-daughter; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Davis, Christopher Davis, John E. Kelly Jr., Geralmy D. Swint, Jay Dee Davis and Constance L. King.

Honorary pallbearers were stewards and trustees of Sandvalley AME Church and Solomon Lodge #76.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Nathaniel Henry Johnson
SPC Nathaniel Henry Johnson, 22, of Augusta died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, in Iraq.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Survivors include his parents, Felix and Phyllis Johnson, Augusta; a sister, Tiffany (Randy) Williams, Augusta; maternal grandparents, Murphy Ponder, Wadley; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Williams Funeral Home, Hephzibah, is in charge of the arrangements.

Enon Brinson "BB" Lamb III
Mr. Enon Brinson "BB" Lamb III of Wadley died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004.

Mr. Lamb, born in Emanuel County, had lived in Wadley for over 40 years. He was a member of Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church. He was retired from the State of Georgia Juvenile Court Services with 32 years of service.

The memorial service was Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Donald Lumpkin and Norman Ashworth officiating. Survivors include his wife, Judy Lamb; two sons, Smitty (SuzAnne) Lamb, Tifton, and Tim Lamb, Wadley; his mother, Frances Lamb, Wadley; one sister, Mary Pat Cowan, Louisville; and three grandchildren, Tatum Lamb, Beau Brinson Lamb and Dakota Lamb.

Memorials may be made to Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church c/o Mrs. James Oglesby, 370 Wadley-Coleman Lake Rd., Midville, GA 30441.

Kay Frances Stone Mathis
Mrs. Kay Frances Stone Mathis of Wrens died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003.

Mrs. Mathis, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Harts Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She attended public school in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of the late Louise Smith Stone and Flipper Stone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lever Mathis.

The funeral was Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church with Pastor W.L. Jones officiating.

Survivors include three daughters, Cathy Stone, Pamela (Christopher) Jones and Felicia (Russell) Coward of Wrens; two sons, James (Shawana) Mathis, Ft. Carson, Colo., and Scotty (Katina) Mathis, Augusta; her mother-in-law, Everlena Mathis, Wrens; 10 grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Pallbearers were Matthew Howard, Parish Howard, Rodney Little, Torey King, Bobby Thomas Jr. and Ricky Stone.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Anne M. McElreath
Mrs. Anne M. McElreath of Evans died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004.

Mrs. McElreath, a native of Wadley, was a member of Wadley United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. McElreath Sr.

A memorial service was held Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. at Wadley United Methodist Church with the Revs. Steve Dodson and Larry Sauls officiating.

Survivors include three sons, William C. McElreath Jr., Atlanta, Benjamin F. McElreath Sr. and Robert J. McElreath, both of Augusta; a daughter, Pamela M. Bowen, Rock Hill, SC; and five grandchildren.

Alvin Reese
Mr. Alvin Reese of Wadley died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004.

The funeral was Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Life Fellowship Ministries in Wadley with Bishop Clifford Duckworth officiating.

Survivors include seven daughters, Connie Jackson, Cathy Moye, Margaret Jones and Sharon Danford, all of Wadley; Earlene Scott, Swainsboro, Alvena Grimes, Cleveland, Ohio and Valeria L. Williams, Augusta; one son, Alonzo Johnson, Wadley; two brothers, Robert Jones, Louisville and Larry Jones, Augusta; three sisters, Willie Mae Dempsey, Ella Bell Jones and Joyce Ann Jones, Savannah; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Alberta McNair Ruff
Mrs. Alberta McNair Ruff, 59, of Wrens died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004.

The funeral was Jan. 10 at 1 p.m. at Aldred CME Church with the Rev. George Glenn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Mae Lane and Laverne Tucker; a son, Willie James Lane; two sisters, Jerlene Tucker and Eva Jean Smith; and two brothers, Raymond McNair and Sedrick McNair.

Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Jerry Dean Thigpen
Mr. Jerry Dean Thigpen, 61, of Pinson, Ala., died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the Medical Center East Facility in Birmingham.

Mr. Thigpen, a native of Glascock County, had lived in Pinson for several years. He was a house painter.

Graveside services were Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. in Westview cemetery with the Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating.

Survivors include two sons, Kerry Thigpen and Randy Thigpen, both of Pell City, Ala.; and one granddaughter.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Agnes Vaughner
Mrs. Agnes Vaughner, 62, of Wrens died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004.

The funeral was Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. at Springfield AME Church with the Rev. Leroy Britt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Vaughner Jr.; four daughters, Mary Jordan, Francina Oliphant, Sara Vaughner and Brenda Burns, all of Wrens; Charles Vaughner, Athens, Jeffery Vaughner, Louisville, Jerome Vaughner, Stapleton, and Wayne Vaughner, Wrens; 28 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth J. "Lizzie" Chalker
Mrs. Elizabeth J. "Lizzie" Chalker, 78, of Augusta died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003.

Mrs. Chalker had retired from King Mill as a seamstress. She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Augusta. She was preceded in death by a son, Aaron T. Chalker.

The funeral was Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. at Platt's Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Kelly McKnight officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Survivors include five sons, Larry (Judy) Chalker, Hephzibah, Eddie (Diana) Chalker, Tampa, Fla., Mike Chalker, Grovetown, Timmy (Teri) Chalker, Harlem, Kenny (Lola) Chalker, Augusta; two daughters, Linda (Freddie) Andrews, Evans, and Kay (Wally) Coward, Beech Island; three sisters, Louise Hadden, Gibson, Francis Coxville, Gibson, and Ella Mae Guy, Augusta; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Sue Hines Eady
Mrs. Sue Hines Eady, 84, of LaGrange died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center.

Mrs. Eady, a native of Troup County, was the daughter of the late James Luby and Addie Viola McClain Hines. She was formerly employed by Milliken & Company and at Troup County Head Start. She was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for more than 50 years and initiated the Kindergarten program there.

The funeral was Jan. 2 at Shadow Lawn cemetery in LaGrange.

Survivors include her husband, Garon Eady; two sons, Jim (Judy) Eady, Lilburn, and Michael (Terrye) Eady, Louisville; a sister, Tillie Burnham, LaGrange; four granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Demmotra Denise "Tray" Lowe
Miss Demmotra Denise "Tray" Lowe, 24, of Tampa Bay, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 29, 2993.

Miss Lowe, a native of Broward County, Fla., moved to Wrens at an early age. She attended Wrens Elementary School and was a 1998 graduate of Jefferson County High School. She was a member of the House of Faith Holiness Church in Wrens. She moved to Tampa Bay in 1999.

The funeral will be Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. at House of Faith Holiness Church with Pastor Dorothy Nelson officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, My'Anauh T. Bingham, Waukegan, Ill.; two sons, Michael B. Bingham III, Waukegan, and Tyler T. Lowe, Wrens; her mother, Ms. Sheila M. Stone, Wrens; her father, Donald Lowe Jr., Waukegan; three sisters, Shawanda Stone and Britney R. Mayo, both of Wrens, and Santrell Lowe, Decatur; one brother, Anthony Lowe, Waukegan; grandparents, Bessie (Walter) Nelson, Wrens; great-grandmother, Annie W. Whitaker, Trenton, NY; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Family and friends may call at the home of Wanda White, 204 Denny Rd., Wrens.

Emily Woodall McCleskey
Mrs. Emily Woodall McCleskey, 81, died June 18, 2003, in Cleveland.

Mrs. Woodall was the wife of the Rev. Walter Scott McCleskey, a former Wrens Methodist pastor in 1960-61. She was preceded in death by a son, Walter Scott McCleskey Jr.

The funeral was held in the chapel of the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Ferguson and the Rev. Debbie Stokes officiating. Burial was in Marietta City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Walter Scott McCleskey; two children, Catherine (Larry) Oliver and Margaret (Bob) Smith; a brother, Robert Baugh (Matilda) Woodall; a sister, Margaret Woodall Browne; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
