Lucille M. Bartell
Mrs. Lucille M. Bartell, 97, formerly of Mason City and Rudd, Iowa died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in Tawas City, Michigan.

Mrs. Bartell was born the July 14, 1907 in Algona, Cossuth County, Iowa, to Adeline Sifert and Joseph Scoville. She attended Mason City Schools. She worked at Stoddard Manufacturing during WWII and at Kresge Department Store where she retired as Millinery Manager. She also performed the accounting duties for her husband's business. On Aug. 19, 1929, she was united in marriage with Delos at her brother's home in Ames, Iowa. She was a long-time member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and later the Rudd United Methodist Church. Prior to that she was certified as a Sunday School teacher at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mason City. She was a long time member of the DAR and Cultural Club in Rudd. She was preceded in death by her husband Delos A. Bartell, her parents, 5 sisters, and 4 brothers.

Funeral services will be held at Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Rudd United Methodist Church, Rudd, IA. The visitation will be 11:00 to 1:00 prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Mason City, IA.

Survivors include her sons, Glenn A. Bartell and his wife Evelyn of Wrens; Rex D. Bartell and his wife Cecilia of Mason City, Ia., Dr. Larry S. Bartell of Berkeley Springs, W.V., one daughter, Alice L. Bailey and her husband John of Tawas City, Mich.; 16 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to the Rudd United Methodist Church.

Barbara Jean Gibbons Cutler
Mrs. Barbara Jean Gibbons Cutler, 60, formerly of Louisville died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Shore Meadows Nursing Facility, Tomsriver, N.J.

Mrs. Cutler, a native of Jefferson County, attended Jefferson County School System. She was a member of the House of Faith Holiness Church in Wrens.

The funeral was Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. at Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with Minister Dorothy Nelson and Isaac Culbreth officiating. Burial was in the Louisville Society Cemetery.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Mamie and James Murray, Wrens; her children, Bobby Brinson, Tomsriver, N.J., Mamie Conway, Piscataway, N.J., Eddie Sissford, Orlando, Fla., Tony Brinson, Conn., Pamela Gibbons, Wrens, and Elmer Brinson, Ft. Myers, Fla.; her siblings, Bernice Ponder, Lonnie Jean Hines, Charles Gibbons, Deborah Gibbons, Louisville, Ellis Freeman, S. Tongue River, N.J., Gwinnett Phillips, Clayton, Ca., Leon Davis, Milwaukee, Wi., Barry Hines and Cassandra Wynn, Wrens, Mary O. Gibbons, Waynesboro, Willie Albert Gibbons Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo., Earnestine Carr, Rochester, N.y, and Sherry Dean, Philadelphia, Pa.; 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

John B. Mitchell
Mr. John B. Mitchell of Wadley died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005.

The funeral was Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at Spears Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Fannie Mitchell; two daughters, Annie P. Mitchell and Rosetta Mitchell, Atlanta; three sons, John Mitchell, Wadley, and Charles Mitchell and Toris Mitchell, Louisville; his mother, Rosa W. Mitchell, Wadley; four sisters, Annie M. Hunt and Ammie L.Little, Wadley, Lizzie Bostic, Ormond Beach, Fla., and Mattie Smith, Blythe; one brother, Walter Mitchell Jr., Wadley; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Nan S. Nelms
Mrs. Nan S. Nelms of Bartow died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005.

Mrs. Nelms, a native of Bartow, was the daughter of the late Lamar and Nannie Smith. She was an elementary school teacher and was a member of the Ammie S. Page Memorial Baptist Church in Riddleville.

The funeral was Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. at Ammie S. Page Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Gerald Wade Dawson officiating. Burial was in the Bartow Cemetery.

Survivors include four sons, Benjamin Scott Nelms, Atlanta, David Michael (Loretta) Nelms, Royal Palm Beach, Fla., Jonathon Wright (Juanita) Nelms, Louisville, and Lewis Caldwell (Leah) Nelms, Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren, Austin, Joshua, Daniel, Stephen, Adam, Caleb, Jared and Jesse Nelms, Sara Charity and Hannah Nelms.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Jones, Edd Garrett, Joe Garrett, Hubert Jackson, Lamar Jackson, William Josey, Gene Glover and Louie Walker.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Joe L. Brown
Mr. Joe L. Brown of Wadley died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005.

The funeral was Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel in Wadley with Elder Ronnie Harden officiating. Burial was in San Clair cemetery in Wadley.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Williams Brown, Wadley; three daughters, Angie Bostic, Atlanta, Lisa Anna Williams, Jacksonville, Fla., and Teresa Brown, Lakeland, Fla.; one son, Rex Brown, Dacula; five sisters, Eliza Evans and Louise Marshall, Brooklyn, N.Y., Arnita Rogers, Juanita Brown and Nellie Brown, Savannah; three brothers, Anthony Brown and James Brown, Jacksonville, and John Brown, Savannah; and six grandchildren.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas E. "Red" Buchanan
Mr. Thomas E. "Red" Buchanan, 91, of Waynesboro died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005.

Mr. Buchanan, a native of Talbot County, moved to Louisville in 1949. He was a hardware salesman for 35 years and served as Mayor of Louisville for 16 years and was chairman of the Jefferson County Commission for 23 years. He was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church for over 53 years where he was a former Sunday School Superintendent, a former member of the Administrative Board, the church choir and former delegate to the South Georgia Conference. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Louisville Stonewall Lodge #98 F&AM.; He was a resident of Burke County for the last 17 years.

The funeral was Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. at Louisville United Methodist Church with Dr. David Carter and the Rev. Pat Mahan officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ouida G. Buchanan, Waynesboro; a daughter, Penny Lindsey, Hinesville; a brother, Alvin Buchanan, Milledgeville; a stepson, W.C. Wilkerson, Dublin; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew.

Pallbearers were Tommy New, Murray Hadden, Wynder Smith, Sammy Grant, Tommy Smith and Sidney Norton.

O.C. Hawkins Jr.
Rev. O.C. Hawkins Jr., 81, of Mitchell died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Rev. Hawkins, a native of Glascock County, farmed for many years. He was an Army Veteran of WWII where he received a Purple Heart for his service. He was a pastor of the First Church of God in Edgehill and a school bus driver for 26 years.

The funeral was Jan. 20 at 2 p.m. at Edgehill First Church with the Rev. Bill Seaman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Mathis Hawkins; one son, Tommy and Mary Ann Hawkins, Wrens; two daughters, Janice and Charles Thompson, Evans, and Donna and Dwain Pittman, Mitchell; two brothers, Jamie Hawkins Sr., Gibson, and Ronnie Hawkins, St. Louis; one sister, Jessie Sue Sammons, Gibson; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Robert Thompson, Michael Thompson, Gregory Hawkins, Gary Hawkins, David Hawkins, Jamie Hawkins Jr., Kevin Reese and Ricky Phillips.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

John Charles Heath
Mr. John Charles Heath, 57, of Livingston, Tenn., died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005.

Mr. Heath, a native of Jefferson County, was a graduate of Louisville Academy. He attended Georgia Tech and graduated from Georgia State University. He earned his law degree at Emory University. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Livingston, the Upper Cumberland Trial Lawyers, Tennessee Trial Lawyers, Overton County Bar Association and the Overton County Lions Club. He is predeceased by his father, William Estill Heath, and a brother, William Heath.

The funeral was Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Livingston with the Rev. Donald Cobb officiating. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Wright Heath; sons Andy Heath, Nashville, Tenn., and Ryan Heath, Livingston; his mother, Cornelia Heath, Elizabethton, Tenn.; and a sister, Roslyn LaDuke, Johnson City, Tenn.

Ernesto Hernandez
Mr. Ernesto Hernandez, 38, of Wrens died Monday, Jan. 17, 2005.

A vigil service was held Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Lumpkin Road Chapel. Burial will take place at a later date in Tejas, Mexico.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley C. Hernandez; children, Freddie Hernandez, Chicago, Ill., Sonya, Angel, Iban, Ernesto Jr. Hernendaz, Mexico; Cheryl Smith, Lewis Smith Jr., James Smith and Johnny Smith, Wrens; parents, Juan and Marcelina Hernandez, Mexico; brothers, Roman and Irineo Hernandez, Grovetown, and Octavio Hernandez, Augusta; and sisters, Olivia, Aida and Catalina Hernandez, Mexico.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home Lumpkin Road Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Waters McDonald Marsh
Mrs. Linda Waters McDonald Marsh, 51, of Vidalia died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005.

Mrs. Marsh, a native of Toombs County, was a waitress at Captains Corner Restaurant in Vidalia and was a member of Pendleton Community Church.

The funeral was Jan. 20 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home with the Rev. Wade McBride, Rev. Gary Roberson, Rev. Morris Brantley and Rev. Kelmer Durden officiating. Burial was in Waters cemetery near Normantown.

Survivors include her husband, Donald P. Marsh, Swainsboro; two daughters, Amanda McDonald Williamson, Vidalia, and Alisa McDonald Papp, Guyton; one son, Blake McDonald, Augusta; one stepson, Donald I. Marsh, Swainsboro; one stepdaughter, Crystal Rena Marsh Phillips, Sandersville; her parents, Eugene and Geneva Waters, Vidalia; one brother, Gary Waters, Vidalia; three grandchildren and one nephew.

Murchison Funeral Home, Vidalia, was in charge of the arrangements.

William "Butch" Walker Jr.
Mr. William "Butch" Walker Jr., 56, of Louisville died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mr. Walker, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of the St. Matthews AME Church and a retired cement finisher.

The funeral was Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew AME Church with the Rev. David Walker officiating. Burial was in the Louisville Society Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Walker, Louisville; his sons, Nicholas Ambrose Walker, Augusta, and William Walker III, Waynesboro; his father, William Walker Sr., Louisville; siblings, Ida Lee Mack, Mary Nell Mack, Willie Eva Davis and Raymond Walker, all of Louisville; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Naomi Abraham
Mrs. Naomi Abraham of Augusta died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Windemere Health Center.

Mrs. Abraham, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from Richmond County Board of Education and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

The funeral was Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Otis Moss III officiating. Burial was at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden.

Survivors include two daughters, Emma (Michael) Hankerson, Hephzibah, Barbara (John) Barmore, New York, N.Y.; one granddaughter; one nephew; and one adopted granddaughter.

Rev. W. Donald Andrews
Rev. W. Donald Andrews, 70, of Baldwin died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005.

Rev. Andrews, a native of Clarke County, attended Southern Baptist Tehlogical Seminary in Louisville, Ken. He pastored several churches including Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Avera.

The funeral was Jan. 15 from the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with the Rev. Bill Ford officiating. Burial was in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Macken Andrews; daughters, Donna Andrews Wilson, Homer, and Julie Andrews Cook, Milledgeville; a son, Roy E. Andrews, Breman; a brother, Dwayne Andrews, Sparta; and seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Susan Tanner Beckworth
Mrs. Susan Tanner Beckworth, 92, of Decatur died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005.

Mrs. Beckworth, a native of Washington County, was a long time resident of Louisville before moving to the Atlanta area. She retired from J.P. Allen as the Foundations Manager of its Lenox Square Store. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Aubry Beckworth.

Graveside services were Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. in the Louisville City cemetery with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.

Survivors include her sons, Frank and Ardith Beckworth, Lilburn, and Ken and Marie Beckworth, Marietta; a sister, Betty Sheppard, Sandersville; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Tanner, Louisville; a brother-in-law, Ray Thompkins, Sandersville; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Kenny Beckworth, Jeff Beckworth, Chris Beckworth, Jimmy Tanner, Horace Avant, Sonny Saunders, Dale Green and Charles Erwin. Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
