Mrs. Annie Bell Atkins of Bronx, NY, died Friday, May 12, 2006.
Mrs. Atkins, a native of Jefferson County, had lived in New York for several years. She received her education in the Jefferson County school system. She was a former member of Gordon Grove Baptist Church.
The funeral was May 27 at 1 p.m. at Gordon Grove Baptist Church in Louisville with the Rev. Charles Holloway officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters, Renee Pinckey, Marshall Island, and Teresa Smith, Bronx, NY; son, Joseph Smith Jr., Swainsboro; brothers, Arthur Brown, Augusta, Joe Atkins, Bronx, NY, Willie Atkins, Midville, and Roosevelt Atkins, Wadley; sisters, Lillie Bell Atkins, Mary Atkins, New York, and Daisy Tarver, Chesapeake, Va.; three grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Lillie Mae Lewis Fuller
Mrs. Lillie Mae Lewis Fuller, 80, died Friday, May 26, 2006, at Unity Rehabilitation Center, Miami, Fla.
Mrs. Fuller, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Burl and Henrietta White Lewis and a retired custodian.
The funeral is June 1 at 4 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the New Fleming Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her sister, Lola Pearl Allen, and brother, Lonnie Lewis Sr., both of Louisville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Floyd Johnson
Mr. Floyd Johnson, 88, of Gibson died Monday, May 22, 2006, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Warren County but lived in Glascock County most of his life. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Malar J. Hunnicutt, one brother, Cleon Hunnicutt and one sister, Sylvester Hunnicutt.
Survivors include his wife, Lizzie Whitehead Johnson; two sons, Larry Johnson, Springfield, Mass., and Gary Johnson, Gibson; one daughter, Marilyn J. Peebles, Gibson; one brother, Marion F. Hunnicut, Thomson; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

William J. Lockhart
Rev. William J. Lockhart of Wadley died Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.
Rev. Lockhart, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Eden Baptist Church. He received his education in the Jefferson County school system. He attended Haines Institute primary and secondary education in Augusta. He is a graduate of Los Angles City College with a bachelor degree in art. He earned a bachelor degree in theology from California Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the United States Army in World War II. He also served in the United States Air Force in the Korean War, received a pilot license and was a retired civil serviceman. He was a pastor, shepherd and counselor. He ministered at First Baptist Church in Gough, Jones Grove Baptist Church in Burke County and Dickey Grove Baptist Church in Millen.
The funeral was May 13 at Eden Baptist Church in Louisville with the Rev. J.O. Nelson presiding and the Rev. John Augustus Lockhart officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Dessie Williams Lockhart, Wadley; sister, Eunice Lockhart, Louisville; brothers, James A. Lockhart and Edgar (Viola) Lockhart, Louisville, and Johnny (Kim) Lockhart, Augusta; step-children, Brenda Davis, Midville, Alfred Mitchell and Smitty Mitchell, Wadley; sister-in-law, Josell Mitchell, Brockton, Mass.; three step-children and several other relatives.
Pallbearers were Alfred Mitchell, Smitty Mitchell, Robert Davis, Reginald Cox and Henry Morgan.

Norman Mitchell Sr.
Mr. Norman Mitchell Sr., 53, died Saturday, May 27, 2006.
Mr. Mitchell, a native of Jefferson County, was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army and a correction officer at the Jefferson County Prison.
The funeral will be June 2 at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will be at The Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery in Milledgeville.

Geraldine H. Montgomery
Mrs. Geraldine H. Montgomery, 62, of Thomson died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Cancer Treatment Center of America, Tulsa, Okla.
Mrs. Montgomery, a native of Greenville, Tenn., lived in Thomson for 55 years. She was a tax preparer, a member of the Thomson United Methodist Church, a member of the Matthews Community Relay for Life Team of Jefferson County and a dedicated supporter of the Mt. Moriah Campground in Matthews. She was the daughter of the late Hubert D. Haire Sr. and the late Bertha Shelton Haire.
A memorial service will be held June 4 at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Tom Kerr and Joe B. Walden officiating.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Tommy Montgomery; a daughter, Terry Lynn Wilson (Peck) Dawson, Thomson; step-son, Russell Thomas (Jennifer) Montgomery, Thomson; step-daughter, Krystal (Randy) Lord, Thomson; brothers, Hubert D. Haire Sr., Appling, and William J. Haire Sr., Mobile, Ala.; sisters, Ina H. Urian, Joyce H. Newsome and Brenda H. Thomas, all of Thomson, and Karen H. Walden and Vickie H. Mrs. Ruby M. Stevenson, 88, of Blythe died Sunday, May 21, 2006.
Mrs. Stevenson was a homemaker and a Baptist.
The funeral was May 23 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry McLofton officiating. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Therisa Ann (Marshall) Rowlen, Gibson, and Brenda Jean Watts, Wrens; one sister, Dorothy James; a brother, Walter Hayes; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Cecil Ware
Mr. Cecil Ware of Lithonia died Wednesday, May 3, 2006, in a Fulton County Hospital.
Mr. Ware, a native of Milwaukee, Wis., lived in Georgia for several years. He was a 1972 graduate of Ruffs King High School in Milwaukee. He was employed at CNN Time Warner. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
The funeral was May 9 at 1 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Lithonia with Pastor Michael R. Pigg officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Gross Ware, Lithonia; daughters, Cicely Ware, Christina Weathersby and Cecilia Ware, Decatur; sister, Janice Carpenter, Chesapeake, Va.; brother, Norman P. Rich, Swansa, Ill.; mother-in-law, Mozell McCall, Louisville; two grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Jack Beasley
Mr. Jack Beasley, 81, of Stapleton died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Glendale Nursing Home.
Mr. Beasley, a native of Jefferson County, was a mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Ozzie (Bud) and Lillian Avera Beasley of Stapleton; three sisters, Marian Smith, Libby Huff and Mary Phillips; four brothers, William, Ray, Harold and Eugene Beasley; a niece, Tammie; and a nephew, Donnie.
Visitation was Oct. 15 at James Funeral Home. Burial immediately followed visitation in Pleasant Grove Church cemetery with the Rev. H.W. Lariscy officiating.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, cousins and one aunt.

D. Byron Burt
Mr. D. Byron Burt, 60, of Louisville died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Jefferson Hospital.
Mr. Burt, a native of Athens, moved to Louisville in 1969. He was a self-employed aerial applicator. He was a member and elder of the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. He served on the Louisville City Council from 1991-2001, then in 2002 was elected Mayor of Louisville and was serving until his death. He owned and operated Burt’s Aircraft Service for 30 years. He was a mason.
The funeral was Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at Louisville A.R.P. Church with the Rev. Will Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Louisville City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Pritchett Burt; one son, Major Joel E. Burt and wife Vicky of Troy, Ill.; one daughter, Bonnie B. Jolley and husband Bobby of Normal, Ill.; three grandchildren, Sarah Ashley and Mason Byron Burt, Troy, Ill., and Burt Jefferson Jolley, Normal, Ill.; his mother, Mildred Saxon Burt, Winterville; one brother, Dennis M. Burt, Anderson, S.C.; one sister, Crystal Gabriel and husband Dan of Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Virginia Kitchens
Mrs. Margaret Virginia Kitchens, 85, of Harlem died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2006, at Thomson Manor Health Care Center.
Mrs. Kitchens was retired as a sales clerk from Anderson’s Department Store. She was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church and the Faith Sunday School class.
She was a past president of U.M.C. Society, Sunday School treasurer and Sunday School teacher at Zoar. She was also a member of the VSP Club in Harlem. She was preceded in death by her husband Warren Kitchens and a son, Wayne D. Kitchens.
The funeral was Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. at Zoar United Methodist Church with the Revs. Wayne McDaniel and Sam Collins officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, Warren P. (Frankie) Kitchens, Thomson, David P. Kitchens, Gibson, and Edward E. Kitchens, Hephzibah; a daughter, Eva K. Newsome, Harlem; two sisters, Nell Holley, Wrens, and Inez Griswold, Augusta; two brothers, Herbert Anderson, Wrens, and Samuel Anderson, Smyrna; daughterin- law, Rosa Lee Kitchens; Matthews; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
