Ms. Cassandra Walden Berry, 43, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Saturday, June 10, 2006.

Ms. Berry was a native of Jefferson County but lived in Jacksonville for many years. She was a member of the St. Lutheran Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.

The funeral was June 17 at 11 a.m. at Salters Grove Baptist Church and cemetery with the Revs. Walter Holmes and Willie Tomlin officiating.

Survivors include one son, Isaac E. Berry, Augusta; her parents, Addie Bell Warthen Walden, Bartow, and Bobby Walden, Jacksonville, Fla.; siblings, Pleas Y. Walden and Steven R. Walden, Augusta, Bobby Walden Jr., Bobbie Jean Walden, Vickie Walden, Lamont Walden, Dwayne Walden, Randy Walden and Leon Walden, Jacksonville, Fla.; paternal grandmother, Murtis Walden, Jacksonville, Fla.; and several other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Sarah Francis "Fannie" Bauguss
Mrs. Sarah Francis "Fannie" Bauguss, 100, of Wadley died Thursday, June 22, 2006.

Mrs. Baugus, born in Wilkes County, N.C., had lived in Wadley since 1945. She was a homemaker and a member of Wadley Baptist Church.

Graveside services were June 24 at 10 a.m. at the Wadley cemetery with the Rev. Donald Lumpkin officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth and Otis Mobley, Augusta; a son, Harold and Delores Bauguss of Wadley; six grandchildren; and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Wadley Baptist Church Building Fund or your favorite charity.

Dandy "Frog" Carr Jr.
Mr. Dandy "Frog" Carr Jr. of Louisville died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Portbridge Hospice in Augusta.

Mr. Carr was a lifelong resident of Jefferson and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and Spring Bethel Benevolent Society.

The funeral was June 28 at 3:30 p.m. at John and Alavan Memorial Chapel - Garrer Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Davis officiating. Burial was in the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society cemetery.

Survivors include his children, James E. Carr, Abbeville, Christopher Carr and Angela Carr Watson, Sandersville, and Latonya Carr Middleton, Hephzibah; a brother, Ben Carr Sr., Louisville; a sister, Mary Carr Washington; Louisville; six grandchildren and several other relatives.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Lillar Mae Lamar Gibbons
Mrs. Lillar Mae Lamar Gibbons of Wadley died Thursday, June 22, 2006.

The funeral was June 24 at 2 p.m. at Spears Grove Baptist Church in Wadley with the Rev. C.W. Stone officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two step-daughters, Bertha Mae Jenkins, Wadley, and Naomi Williams, Atlanta; step-grandchildren, Burnette Brown, Willie Mae Herrington, Rhonda Bennett and Arlene Turner, Wadley, Sam Gibbons Jr., Twin City, and Shonta Gibbons, Bartow; 15 great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Ophelia Newsome Hammett
Mrs. Ophelia Newsome Hammett, 79, of Stapleton died Thursday, June 22, 2006.

Mrs. Hammett was a native of Edgehill, Glascock County. She was the daughter of the late Amy and Hubert Newsome. She moved to McDuffie County in the early 1950's and worked for Thomson Company for 38 years. She was a member of Hill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Hammett.

The funeral was June 25 at 2 p.m. at Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Huff, Stapleton; three brothers, Dean Newsome, Calif., Lonnie Newsome and William Newsome, both of Fla.; one sister, Brenda Lott, Ohio; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Billy Sturkey, Roy Parkerson, Wells McCorkle, Wayne Scarber, Mike Huff, Daniel Schaeffer and Robbie Meadows.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hazel Pauline Davis "Polly" Holley
Mrs. Hazel Pauline Davis "Polly" Holley of Knoxville, Tenn., died Saturday, June 10, 2006.

Mrs. Holley was a member of Timothy St. Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Wesley and Katherine Davis; and a brother, Robert Kenneth Davis.

Graveside services were held at Easeview Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her husband, John C. Holley; a brother and sister-in-law, Edsel and Imogene Davis; sister, Mary Hickey, Chattanooga, Tenn.; sister-in-law, Louise Davis, Bean Station; and several nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Timothy Street Baptist Church.

Dennis Allen Hughes
Mr. Dennis Allen Hughes, 59, of Thomson died Monday, June 19, 2006, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.

Mr. Hughes, a native of McDuffie County, had worked with Knox Rivers and retired from Reeves Construction as a heavy equipment operator. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Stevens Hughes.

The funeral was June 22 at 11 a.m. in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Adrian Burrell officiating. Burial was in the Magnolia Baptist Church cemetery in Gibson.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Marie (Ronnie) Black, Gibson; a son, Jutson Marcus Hughes, Gibson; two sisters, Martha Phillips, Thomson, and Bobbie Scott, Hephzibah; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ebay Outley
Mr. Ebay Outley, 28, of Louisville died Saturday, June 17, 2006, in McDuffie County.

Mr. Outley, a native of Jefferson County, was a 1996 graduate of Jefferson County High School. He served in the United States Army where he was a unit supply specialist until he received an honorable discharge in 1999. He was a member of Gordon Grove Baptist Church and a former member of Bennie Brinson Gospel Choir. He was employed as a warehouse supervisor at Electrolux Products in Swainsboro.

The funeral was June 24 at 11 a.m. at Gordon Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Holmes Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his sons, Traivon and Daivon Outley of Louisville; mother and step-father, Eunice and Thomas Cunningham Sr., Louisville; his father, Lee Edward Simpkins, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Yashica T. McIntyre, Louisville, Lasonya Outley, Macon, Tomiko (Michael) Banks, Wrens, Shannon L. Mack, Trenton, NJ, Tammy Alexander and Eva (Derrick) Hill, Louisville, and Diane (Derrick) Robinson, Augusta; brothers, Lakendrick (Shakedrah) Carswell, Sandersville, Lee Hodges and Thomas (Nyeesha) Cunningham Jr., Louisville; maternal grandfather, Sammy Outley Sr., Lakeland, Fla.; paternal grandmother, L.J. Styles, Midville; grandmother, Ella Washington, Louisville; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were Kirk Paschal, Lavelton Smith, Michael Lowery, Anthony Williams, Bobby Frazier and Joseph Wicker.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons trustees of Gordon Grove Baptist Church, Louisville High School Class of 1996 and co-workers of Electrolux Products.

Timothy "Tim" Mathis
Mr. Timothy "Tim" Mathis, 34, of Wrens died Wednesday, June 21, 2006.

The funeral was June 25 at 2:30 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church with the Rev. Michael Ephraim officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Latassha Mathis; children, Brittini Mathis, Niaya Mathis and Nigel Mathis; stepson, Tremine Nelson; parents, Lamar and Mildred Mathis; sister, Tamara Mathis; mother-in-law, Dianne Hopkins; sister-in-law, Lashonda (Calphonzo) Thomas.

Mary Eliza Faglie Streetman
Mrs. Mary Eliza Faglie Streetman, 89, of Nashville, Tenn., died Friday, June 23, 2006.

Mrs. Streetman was a member of Wrens Baptist Church, W.M.U. and a charter member of Wrens Keenagers. She graduated from Avera High School and Georgia College (GSCW). She was a retired teacher who taught in Wrens, Purvis, Vidalia, Gibson and Stilson. She was also a member of Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert John and Ozzie Pearl Anderson Faglie; and her grandparents, John Augustus and Eliza Ann Pope Faglie

The funeral was June 27 at 11 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Julian West officiating. Burial was in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include a son, Commander John R. (Chris) Streetman Jr., Camas, Wash.; a daughter, Ellen S. (Dr. Russell) Smith, Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Pallbearers were Mickey Palmer, Charles Milburn, David McTier, Mike Adams, Jim Gay and Andy Walden.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Will Albert Atkins Sr.
Mr. Will Albert Atkins Sr., 55, of Midville died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Atkins, a native of Burke County, was a member of Gordon Grove Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the trustee board until his health failed. He was a member of the Emanuel County Fire Department. He was also a 1969 graduate of Jefferson County High School.

The funeral was Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. at Gordon Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Webb officiating and the Rev. Walter Holmes assisting. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his daughter, Angela Bunyon, Midville; a son, Willie Atkins Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Arthur Brown, Augusta, Joe Atkins, Bronx, NY, and Roosevelt Atkins, Wadley; sisters, Lillie Bell Atkins, Bronx, NY, Mary Atkins, New York City, and Daisy Tarver, Chesapeake, Va.; three grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Pallbearers were deacons and trustees of Gordon Grove Baptist Church.

James H. “Jimmy” Bailey
Mr. James H. “Jimmy” Bailey of Waynesboro died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at University Hospital.

Mr. Bailey, a native of Burke County, was retired as the Burke County Chief Tax appraiser. He was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and attended the University of Georgia. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro. He was the son of the late William Davis and Marie Glisson Bailey.

A memorial service was held Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Waynesboro with the Rev. Marshall Singletary officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Smith Bailey; two sons, David Bailey, Waynesboro, and Donnie and Donna Bailey, Wrens; two sisters, Georgia Logan, Athens, and Dot Perkins, Richmond Hill; two grandchildren, Amber and Crystal Bailey, Waynesboro.

Memorials may be made to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, GA 31203, or First United Methodist Church, 802 Liberty St., Waynesboro, GA 30830.

Emily Neal Buckner
Mrs. Emily Neal Buckner, 68, of Belvedere, SC, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Buckner, a native of Glascock County, was retired from the Richmond County Health Department. She was a member of Gibson United Methodist Church.

The funeral was Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. at Gibson U.M.C. with the Rev. Griffin Thompson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her son, Richard A. Kitchens, Martinez; four sisters, Hilda McCoy, Sybil Braswell, Frankie Porter, and Dianne Rabun, all of Gibson; one brother, Kyle (Mickey) Neal, Gibson; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Pallbearers were Mike Braswell, Jack Crunkleton, Coty Faglier, Ross Rabun, Bruce Logue and Ricky Todd.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
