Mrs. Georgia Paulhill Martin

Mrs. Georgia Paulhill Martin of Wadley died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006.

The funeral was Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant CME Church, Bartow, with Pastor Stefon Young officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Florence (John) Mitchell, Katina Mitchell, John Mitchell Jr., Johntavious Mitchell, Anthony Warthen, Ricky Warthen, Amy Little, Roseann Mack, Herschel Lattimore, Shaun Lattimore, Min. Louise Passmore, John Martin, Benjamin Martina and Shirley Harmon, all of Wadley, Jason (Tameka) Warthen, Metter, Winnie Tullis, Ft. Pierce, Fla., Bishop Freddie Martin, Philadelphia, Pa., Nathanie Martin, Augusta, Ora L. Morgan, Louisville, Frances Berry, Wrens, Lou Ellen Dean, Lula Mae Ferguson, LeRoy Martin, Mary Julia Martin, Larry Martin and Eugene Martin, all of Macon; and her brother-inlaw, Rev. Samuel Martin, Wadley.

Pallbearers were Lamar Gunder, Derrick Gibbons, Anthony Warthen and John Mitchell Jr.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Billy Hoyt Paul

Mr. Billy Hoyt Paul, 71, of Lakeland, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug.30, 2006, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Paul, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of John and Orie Paul. He was vice president of safety for Watkins Motor Lines for 45 years. He was a 20-gallon donor with Bloodnet. He was a US Army veteran and a member of First United Methodist Church of Lakeland.

The funeral was Sept. 2 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betsy Harris Paul, formerly of Wrens; a son, Dr. John H. and Sharon Paul, Lakeland; daughters, Lee and Ron Smith and Raye Paul, Lakeland; a brother, James Paul, Wrens; sisters, Jeannette Worsham, Augusta, Anne P. Coker, Jacksonville, Fla., Bobbie Reese and Patricia Hobbs, both of Wrens; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Clothes Closet, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801, or Tampa United Methodist Centers, P.O. Box 5746, Tampa, FL 33675.

Heath Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Aaron Pierce Jr.

Mr. Aaron Pierce Jr. of Louisville died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006.

The funeral was Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Survivors include his children, Rev. Anthony Pierce, Nadia Pierce and Erica Lightsey; step-children, Derrick and Earnest Thompson and Shawanda Bostic; siblings, Eva Walters, Delores Carter and Robert Carter.

Mrs. Jewel Fleming Rivers

Mrs. Jewel Fleming Rivers, 92, of Louisville died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Rivers was a life long native of Jefferson County. She was the daughter of the late Jimmy Fleming and Rosa Lee Youngblood. She was a homemaker and a member of Louisville ARP Church. She was preceded in death by her husband James T. Rivers Sr. The funeral was Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. at the ARP Church in Louisville with the Rev. Will Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Survivors include one son, Thomas Rivers Jr. of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Bennett Albert Davis

Mr. Bennett Albert Davis, 74, of Tennille died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta.

Mr. Davis, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Joe Thomas Davis and the late Emma Manning Davis. He was a mechanic formerly working for United Clay Co. and Davis Tractor Co. prior to being employed by the Washington County Road Department. He was a member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church and was a US Army veteran.

The funeral was Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. at May and Smith Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Ramus Freeman officiating. Burial was in the Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Waller Davis; a son, Daniel A. Davis, Sandersville; a brother, Charlie Davis, Louisville; sisters, Peggy Williams and Jo Dean Davis, both of Louisville, and Beulah Lamb, Gibson; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Beverly Hodges, Horace Yates, Randolph Yates, Brian Davis, Dennis Davis, Leon Peebles, Frank McGahee and Tommy McGahee.

May and Smith Funeral Directors was in charge of the arrangements.

James M. Evans Sr.

Mr. James M. Evans Sr., 90, of Matthews died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at St. Josephs Hospice.

Mr. Evans was a farmer and a member of Woodland Baptist Church where he was a member of Senior Men Sunday School class.

He served as deacon and treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Evans; his parents, William and Ethel Evans; and a brother, Edward Evans.

The funeral was Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Keith Jordan, Dwight Deneelgy and Chris Adkins officiating.

Burial was in Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery.Survivors include a daughter, Anne (Gene) Arrington; two sons, James Melvin (Marian) Evans Jr., and Bob (Tina) Evans; daughter-in-law, Jerry Evans; one brother, John (Bernice) Evans; two sisters, Francies Dozier and Joyce (Bob) Duggar; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacon and Senior Men Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to Woodland Baptist Church, c/o Lynn Roger, 108 Lakeview Dr., Wrens, GA 30833; or to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, GA 30904.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Vivian Arlene Cross Fulghum

Mrs. Vivian Arlene Cross Fulghum, 80, of Midville died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006.

Mrs. Fulghum, a native of Emanuel County, was a member of Midville First Baptist Church and was a retired city clerk. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Doris Bunn Cross, and her brother Rufus Arren Cross.

Graveside services were Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Midville City cemetery with the Revs. Scott McKinney and Leonard Quick officiating.

Survivors include her husband, George J. Fulghum; two daughters, Vicky Belcher, Edgehill, and Amy Thomas, Macon; one brother, Floyd Cross, Midville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary, Swainsboro, was in charge of the arrangements.

Daniel Lee “Rambo” Gill Sr.

Mr. Daniel Lee “Rambo” Gill Sr., 57, of Avera died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006.

Mr. Gill was a machinery operator with City of Louisville.

A memorial service was held Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at Praising Hymn Ministries Church in Louisville with Pastor Richard Stavely officiating.

Survivors include his son, Daniel Lee Gill Jr.; two brothers, Richard Gill and Moses Gill; two sisters, Flora Shelton and Patsy Gill; lifelong companion Stella Baker, and children, Jeffery Presley, Judy (Tim) Usry, Thomas Barker, Billy (Karen) Barker, Cindy (Chris) Welch, Melissa (Ricky) Williams, Freddie (Sarah) Christian; 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
