BARTOW - Mr. Charles Edward “Cat” Salter, age 77, of Highway 221, Bartow died Sunday morning November 27, 2011, in Jefferson Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, November 30, 2011, in the Cross Community Church with Rev. Nick Hazelton officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Bartow City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Stephens, Buster Miner, Floyd Way, Robert Clements, Al McNeely, and Benjie Leaptrot. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ingles Coffee Club.

Mr. Salter was a native and lifelong resident of Bartow and a son of the late Russell Johnson Salter and Mattie Lee Fields Salter. He served in the Georgia National Guard, was a retired US. Postal mail carrier, and had been the owner of Salter Hardware and Feed in Bartow. He was a member of the Ingles Coffee Club, Bartow Community Club, Good Sam’s Camping Club, and Old Bethel Baptist Church.

Mr. Salter was preceded in death by his parents; a sisters: Vema Jordan, Charlotte Dare, & Henrietta McMillan; and is survived by his wife: Cora Mae “Cricket” Salter of Bartow; son: Edward Johnson & Teresa Salter of Louisville; stepsons: Frank & April McTier of Lake Hartwell, Greg & Jan Gaston of Wadley, Jeffery Coursey of Dellwood, and Thomas & Myra Coursey of Newnan; stepdaughters: Doris & Larry Purvis of Wadley, Deloris & Brent Cason of Stapleton, and Salena & Clay Grace of Moxley; brother: Thomas & Letha Salter of Dublin; sister: Faye & Robert Johnson of Orlando, Florida; 3 grandchildren: Phillip, Macy, & Mary Ashton Salter, all of Louisville; 12 step-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Salter family will be at the residence 2152 Hwy 221 South in Bartow and will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Nellie Mae (Trawick) Gibson

Louisville - Mrs. Nellie Mae Trawick Williford Gibson, age 85, of Pecan Street, died Sunday morning November 27, 2011, in the Washington County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Wednesday in the Louisville Church of God wit Pastor David Severance officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot of the Fellowship Baptist Church cemetery in Gibson.

Mrs. Gibson, a native of Tennille, was a daughter of the late Thomas Clay and Nellie Dovie Hitchcock Trawick. She was a former sales person with Allied, a homemaker, and a member of the Louisville Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 husbands: William Williford and Lamar Gibson; sister: Mary Tucker; brothers: Thomas C. Trawick, Jr. and Nick C. Trawick; and is survived by son: Willie Fred Williford of Louisville; daughters: Linda Williford Oglesby of Herndon, GA, Sara Williford Pittman of Avera; stepdaughter: Versie Smith of Daytona Beach, FL; brother: Jessie O’Dell Trawick of Oak Hill FL; 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Gibson family will be at the residence 607 Pecan Street, Louisville and will receive friends 6:00-8:00 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Eloise May
Died: Tue Dec 6, 2011
Mrs. Eloise May, age 88 of Vidalia, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia after an extended illness.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, December 9th at 2:00 pm in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Mrs. May was a native of Louisville and lived in Vidalia most of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia and was preceded in death by her parents, William Luther Marsh and Hattie Lamb Marsh. She was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and she loved gardening.

Mrs. May is survived by one daughter, Linda Rountree of Martinez; one son, Greg May and David Fuerst of Atlanta; one sister, Hattie Mae (Patsy) Todd of Martinez; one granddaughter, Lauren Bailey (Randy); great-grandchildren, Tyson, Banks and Emma; good friend Jackie Oliver of Vidalia; her loving cat Tipper, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The May family will receive friends 12:30 to 1:30 PM Friday December 9, 2011 at Taylor Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sweet Onion Animal Protection Society, P.O. Box 210, Vidalia, GA 30475.

Ann Pearl (Davis) Rabun

Mrs. Ann Rabun, age 77, of Golf Drive, Louisville, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 10, 2011, in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Cofer and Rev. Hardy Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest cemetery in Augusta. Pallbearers will be Dennis Johnson, Ron Livingston, Robbie Gaskins, Jay Davis, Tony Toole, and Mitchell McGraw.

A native of Wrightsville, Georgia, Mrs. Rabun was a daughter of the late James Paul Davis and Vera Pearl Gibson Davis. She was a graduate of Johnson County High School and was the owner of Wedin International, Inc. and Hi-Tech Power Systems. Mrs. Rabun was a member of Louisville First Baptist Church and the Richmond County PTA where she was a past President.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack Rabun, and is survived by her children: Jack N. (Marie) Rabun, Jr. of Cadillac, Michigan, Brian (Chasity) Rabun of Evans, Vickie (Ronnie) Templeton of Blythe, Beverly (Jerry) Whiteside of Hephzibah; sisters: Juanita Cofer of Louisville and Jeanette Tanner of Louisville; grandchildren: Jack Neal Rabun, III, Teresa (SFC Jason) Jones, Kristi (Clint) Flowers, Nelson Dupree Sassard, IV, Peyton Rabun, Presley Rabun, and Paxton Rabun; great grandson: Trent Flowers; several nieces & nephews.

The Rabun family will be at the residence 1044 Golf Drive in Louisville, and will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Taylor Funeral Home.

LOUISVILLE - Mrs. Florine W. Beckum, age 93 of Mimosa Drive died Thursday December 8, 2011 in the Jefferson Hospital .

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Sunday in the Taylor Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the family plot Louisville City cemetery .

A native of Stapleton, Mrs. Beckum was a daughter of the late James and Mattie Ford Williams. She was a graduate of Blythe High School and had worked as a Sales Clerk at Purchase & Sales Furniture Company in Louisville, GA. She was a member of Louisville Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Mrs. Beckum was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rev. Burch Beckum, 8 brothers and 4 sisters.

She is survived by a daughter; Linda & Don Allen, of Louisville , sons; Rev. Robert & Mary Pat Beckum, of Columbus, Gerald & Linda Beckum of Oglethorpe, granddaughters; Rebecca Beckum, Elizabeth Beckum, Lexi Allen, grandsons; Jonathan Beckun and Don Allen, Jr.

The Beckum family will be at the residence 837 Mimosa Drive in Louisville and will receive friends 2:00 till 3:00 PM Sunday just prior to the services at the funeral home.

Julia Virginia (Clark) Walker

Mrs. Julia Virginia Clark Walker, age 91, of Marshallville, GA, formerly of Louisville, died Monday, December 19, 2011, in the Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2011, graveside, in the Louisville City cemetery with Rev. David Hibberts officiating.

Mrs. Walker was a daughter of the late James W. Clark and Mary Little Clark of Louisville. She was a graduate of Louisville Academy, and attended both Wesleyan College and the University of Georgia. On May 19, 1943, she married Robert Casper Walker and was a wife and homemaker until his death in 1993. She had lived in Louisville, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Panama Canal Zone prior to retiring to Tifton, GA, in 1972. Mrs. Walker was a faithful member of the Tifton First United Methodist Church and the Tifton community until she entered the Oaks Nursing Home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 4 brothers, and a grandson, Robert Damon Walker and is survived by three sons; Robert C. Walter, Jr. of Marshallville, GA, James W. Walker, of Stow, Ohio, and William C. Walker of Deatsville, AL; three grandchildren; Ben Walker of Birmingham, AL, Emily Stringfellow of Millbrook, AL, and Mathew Walker of Stow, Ohio; and two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Walker family will receive friends 12:30 till 1:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home just prior to the services.

William Jerry Hattaway

Mr. William Jerry Hattaway, age 80, of Grovetown, formerly of Louisville, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2011, at the residence of his daughter and surrounded by family.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday in the Louisville City cemetery with Rev. David Boggs from Bartow/Moxley United Methodist Church officiating.

Jerry was a veteran, having served 4 years in the Navy. After serving in the Navy, he went on to work for Southern Bell where he retired. After his retirement, he farmed and later was owner and operator of Hattaway Bait & Tackle in Louisville. He was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Maggie Hattaway and his daughter Teresa Hattaway. Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 60 years: Betty T. Hattaway of Grovetown; daughter: Della Hendrix and Ty, Grovetown; and two sons: Mike Hattaway and Becky, Augusta, and Bill Hattaway and Joanna, Bartow. Jerry also leaves his seven grandchildren with fond memories: Bekki (Aaron) Hall, Thomson; Michael Hattaway, Jason Hattaway, Megan Hattaway, Daniel Hattaway, Toni (Dave) Hall, Lexington, SC; and Trey Hattaway, U.S. Marine Corp. His great-grandchildren: Tanner and Emmie Hall, Thomson, Zach and Morgan Hall, Lexington, SC, will forever hold a special place in their hearts for the love he gave to them. Jerry also leaves behind his brother, John Hattaway, and two sisters, Ethel Davis and Carolyn Rouell, all of Louisville.

Family and friends will be received 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home and may be contacted at the home of his son, Bill Hattaway, at 1407 Hwy 221 South, in Bartow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Moxley United Methodist Church, c/o Mary Lois Gaston, 1175 Walden Brett Road, Wadley, GA 30477 or Gideons International at P.O. Box 140800 Nashville, TN 37214-0800.

Emily (Polhill) Watson

Mrs. Emily P. Watson, age 85, of Mulberry Street died Monday evening February 6, 2012, in the Jefferson Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Thursday, February 9, in the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Rev. Doug White officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons of the Louisville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Watson was a daughter of the late J.B. Polhill, Jr. and Rosa Brown Polhill. She was a homemaker and a gifted teacher. She was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at the Louisville A.R.P. Church where she was a member for over forty years. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones.

Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Thomas Watson, Jr. a brother, J.B. Polhill, III, and is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Polly and Gary Cowart of Evans, and Hunter and Eric Cardinal of Taylors, SC; son and daughter-in-law: John Thomas “Tom” Watson, III and Sonya of Louisville; sisters: Rosa P. Green of Louisville, and Lois P. Sheppard & husband Tag of Louisville; eight grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the residence on Mulberry Street and will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

LOUISVILLE - Mr. Gene T. Peterson, age 84, of Highway 1 North, died Saturday February 18, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Hardy Owens officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be held 3:00 PM at the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Pearson, Georgia, with Rev. John Peterson officiating.

A native of Pearson, GA, Mr. Peterson was a son of the late Dennis Paul & Miriam Paulk Peterson. He served in the Georgia National Guard and the U.S. Army for 30 years and had worked for Delta Airlines as a security guard and was of the Baptist Faith.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Martha Lillian Mask Peterson, and is survived by son, Charlie Peterson of Louisville, daughter, Martha Peterson of Harlem, brothers, Hal Peterson of Fla., Rev. John Peterson of Jasper, AL., & Thomas Henry of West Palm Beach, FL., sisters, Imogene Haskins of Pearson, GA., Jane Sawyer of Swainsboro, 2 grandchildren, Blake & Zackary Rosier, several nieces & nephews.

The Peterson Family may be contacted at the residence 8703 Highway 1 N. Louisville, and will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Gloria N. Stanley

LOUISVILLE - Mrs. Gloria N. Stanley, age 86 of Academy Drive, met her God on Sunday morning March 25, 2012. She has been reunited in heaven with the love of her life, Mr. Charlie Lee “Bud” Stanley, Jr.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Louisville First Baptist Church, with Rev. Hardy Owens & Rev. Gary Abbot officiating. Interment will be in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens next to her beloved husband. Pallbearers will be Larry Morgan, Willis Stanley, Mike McDowell, Don Handberry, Bill Toulson, Robby Brett, John Stanley and Charlie Atchinson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Philathea Sunday school class.

Mrs. Stanley was born in Warren County, Georgia and lived in Louisville for 57 years. She was a faithful member of Louisville First Baptist Church and attended the Philathea Sunday school class. She was a devoted church member who dearly loved her church and served in many various positions over the years. She had been employed by Farmers Home Administration District office in Waynesboro.

Mrs. Stanley is survived by daughter Charlene and Russ Larson of Ukiah, Ca., son Larry S. Stanley of Louisville, grandchildren, Aimee and Aaron Schuette, Ashlee Bruton, Jennifer and Jonathan Herring, Stephen & Laura Stanley, great-grandchildren Wyatt, Ayla and Jace, and a Brother Albert Norris of Texas, several nieces & nephews.

If so desired, Memorial can be made to the Louisville First Baptist Church memorial fund.

Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 27, at the funeral home.

BARTOW - Mrs. Marie Elizabeth Epting, age 80 of 5138 Highway 24 West, died Sunday, March 25, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 4:00 pm graveside in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Louisville with Rev. Hardy Owens officiating.

Mrs. Epting was born in Fairview, South Carolina a daughter of the late Sidney & Lizzie Gunner Leaphart. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Camden, South Carolina for more than 20 years, and retired from Maxway after several years of services as a clerk.

Mrs. Epting was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mr. Irby Epting and is survived by a son Ricky and Becky Epting, of Bartow, Brother Nathan & Dorothy Leaphart, of Wagner, SC, two grandchildren Richard and Carsunya Epting, Jessica & James Lancaster, one great grandchild R. J. Lancaster, nieces and nephews Glenn Leaphart, Danny Leaphart, Bennie Leaphart, Kelly Leaphart and Mark Leaphart.

Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the funeral home.
