Mrs. Frances Reece Rogers, age 89, of Louisville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, April 5, 2012, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Monday, April 9, 2012, at Royston Baptist Church in Royston, GA, with the Rev. Franklin Sasser officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Rose Hill cemetery in Royston. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Michael & Eric Raskin, Jeff, Chad, & Todd Brown, Matthew & Jessica Henson and Avery Ferron.

Mrs. Rogers was born July 28, 1922, in Gilmer County to the late Fred A. & Carrie Penland Reece. She was raised in East Ellijay by her grandparents, W. K. & Malissa Reece. In 1942 she married the love of her life, Robert L. Rogers, and they later moved to Cartersville and then to Royston. Mrs. Rogers was a homemaker. After the death of her husband, she worked part-time with Walmart in Hartwell as a door greeter. While living in Royston, Mrs. Rogers was an active member of the Royston Baptist Church where she had served on the Baptismal Committee, had been a member of the choir and WMU, had been a Sunday School and Training Union teacher, and also a Bible Sword Drill Instructor. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. In 2005 Mrs. Rogers moved to Louisville, Georgia to live with her daughter, Donna Rogers.

Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, husband, and sisters: Margaret R. Bailey, Ruby R. Printup, and Kathryn R. Harmon; brothers: Fred A. Reece and Robert William “Bill” Reece. She is survived by daughters: Donna Rogers, Louisville, Cherry R. Brown, Lavonia, Marsha R. Henson, Brentwood, TN, and a son, Robert K. (Elaine) Rogers, Smithville, VA; Sister, Freda R. (Abe) Wender, Cleveland, TN; Sister-In-Law, Winnie F. Reece, Ellijay; Grandchildren: Michael Raskin, Atlanta, Eric (Kris) Raskin, Cumming, Jeff Brown, Royston, Chad (Melanie) Brown, Lavonia, Todd (Jade) Brown, Jesup, Matthew (Leslie) Henson, Madison, MS, Jessica Henson, Charleston, SC, Lauren Rogers, Greenville, NC, Sarah Rogers, Smithville, VA; Great Grandchildren, Savannah Campbell, Avery Ferron, Kate & Laura Ramsey, Lilly Henson, Reagan & Finley Brown; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests, those desiring, please make memorial contributions to the Augusta Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904, United Hospice, 667 South Main St, Swainsboro, GA 30401, or Royston Baptist Church, 767 Church St., Royston, GA 30662.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm at the church prior to the services.

Larry Bryant Cooper

BARTOW – Mr. Larry Bryant Cooper, age 68 of Highway 24 West, died Monday, April 16, 2012 in the University Hospital.

Services will be held 3:30 PM Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Parkers Methodist Church in Bartow, Georgia with Rev. David Boggs officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives following the service.

A native of Jefferson County, Mr. Cooper was the son of the late Hoke and Gladys Andrews Cooper. Mr. Cooper was a cashier at Mel’s Mart in Louisville, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Hollis Cooper, and is survived by son Barry Cooper and Tonya Newberry of Bartow, daughter Teri Cooper Young of Grovetown, brother William A. Cooper of Bartow, four grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

William Frank (Frankie) Hartley

LOUISVILLE – Mr. William Frank (Frankie) Hartley, age 83 of Plum Street died Wednesday April 18, 2012 in the University Hospital in Augusta.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Hardy Owens officiating. Interment will follow in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Edward Salter, Harry Futral, Jr., W. T. Moats, Furnall Booth, Ott Stephens, Larry Morgan, Johnny Jones, Jr., and John Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the T.W. Wilson Sunday school class, and Deacons of Louisville First Baptist Church, Tom Armistead, Ken Thomas, Kenneth Walden, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Mitchell, Mr. & Mrs. Chip Pritchard, Mr. & Mrs. Robert Freeman, Mr. & Mrs. George Jackson, Mr. & Mrs. Kevin Johnson, Mr. & Mrs. Josh Otis, Mr. & Mrs. Don Rhodes, Mr. & Mrs. Don Bray, Mr. & Mrs. Bobby Weeks, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Darden, Mr. & Mrs. Matt Getsinger, Mr. & Mrs. Billy Valduga, and Mr. & Mrs. Chris Biggers.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Hartley was the son of the late Julian Frank & Hattie Brown Hartley. He was a devoted member of Louisville First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, and Sunday school teacher of the T.W. Wilson Sunday school class. He was the owner and operator of Hartley’s cleaners in Louisville for 36 years, a charter member of the Louisville Lions Club, and had served on the Louisville city council for 17 years as police commissioner.

Mr. Hartley is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Hellen G. Hartley, of Louisville, daughters & sons-in-law Debbie Hartley Shelton & Billy of Louisville and Lisa Hartley Howell & Mike of Cumming, three grandchildren, Zach Smith, Will Shelton, and Cody Howell, sister, Judy Hartley Bussell of Louisville, and a special niece Cathy Bussell Smith.

If so desired, Memorial can be made to the Louisville First Baptist Church memorial fund.

Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, April 20, 2012 at the funeral home.

Peter Charles Barile

Mr. Peter Charles Barile, 65, of Walnut Street Louisville, GA passed away on April 22, 2012.

Services will be held 10:00am Monday April 30th in the Church of the Apostles located at 3585 Northside Parkway NW, Atlanta, GA 30327. Interment will be in the Canton National cemetery at 2:00 pm April 30, 2012 with full Military Honors.

Mr. Barile was born June 19, 1946 in Miami, FL to Doris Saddig Heck. He was a graduate of North Miami High School Class of 1964. Peter joined the Air Force in 1965 where he served some time in Korea, later thru the Air Force Reserves he served in Germany during Desert Shield in 1991. Pete graduated from Florida State University in 1973. After college, he settled in Atlanta area working as an Analyst and IT Specialist with Federal Medicare/Medicaid program. He retired from the Federal Government in December 31, 2009. He married his wife Marcia Ann Barile on June 19, 1987. Pete also known as “Skip” or “Charlie” was a very friendly and happy person. He was a wonderful listener and also a great conversationalist. He would make anyone he met smile. He made friends everywhere he went. He was an avid reader, enjoyed hiking in the mountains, a FSU Alumni and fan, a longtime supporter of the St Joseph’s Indian School in South Dakota, and enjoyed Native American Culture and Art. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His goal was to visit all of the National Parks and Presidential libraries in the United States. He achieved a lot of this dream last year when he took several months to visit many of the National Parks as he made his way across the US to visit his family in California. He also was very excited to have been chosen to work as a volunteer at Muir Woods in California this summer. He loved to travel and see this amazing world God created. Mostly, he loved his wife who passed away in May 2011. Peter was a Christian who reconfirmed Jesus in his life in 2007, and would read Bible passages daily. Blessed are all who knew Pete-- to know him was to love him.

He was a loving husband to Marcia Barile who preceded him in death, along with his Father Arthur Heck. He is survived by his Mother; three step-children; Mathew Travis Barile of Smyrna, GA, Steven Thomas Beck of Sausalito, CA and Carl Jay Beck Jr of Commerce, GA; three Grandchildren: Wiley Barile, Beckham Barile, Tucker Barile; one sister Sally Marinello of Boca Raton, FL; two Brothers Bill Heck of Boca Raton, FL; Bob Heck of Plantation, FL;. As well as several nieces and nephews: Amy Flagler; Tessa Marinello; John Marinello; Raymond Heck; Jennifer Heck

Martha Frances (McCoy) Morgan

Died: Fri May 4, 2012
LOUISVILLE – Mrs. Martha McCoy Morgan, age 87 of Highway 24 West, died Friday, May 4, 2012 in the Jefferson Hospital.

Services will be held 3:30 PM Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Louisville, Georgia with Rev. David Severance officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home before the service.

A native of Glascock County, Mrs. Morgan was the daughter of the late John Frank McCoy and Estelle Clark. Mrs. Morgan was a cashier at Mel’s Mart in Louisville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Carl B. Wasden, a grandson Phillip C. Hancock, and is survived by daughter Elaine W. Youngblood of Louisville, several close friends and cousins.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer or Heart Association.

Joseph Wallace Brantley

LOUISVILLE – Mr. Joseph Wallace Brantley, 84, beloved husband of Juanita “Nita” Green Brantley for 66 years entered into rest May 3, 2012.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the funeral home with the Rev. Hardy G. Owens officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service. Private interment will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery.

Mr. Brantley was a life, long resident of Louisville Georgia, a member of Louisville First Baptist Church, a U.S. Navy WWII veteran and local business owner. Mr. Brantley loved sports and was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and loved attending GA Tech and GA Southern football games.

Mr. Brantley was preceded in death by his father, Milo G. Brantley, his mother Jennie Smith Brantley, a sister Martha Brown, and a brother Durwood Brantley.

Survivors include his children Joseph Michael Brantley of Louisville, Deborah McMillan (Chuck) of Wadley, James W. Brantley (Joanna) of North Augusta, Cheryl Kitchens (Jimmy) of Louisville, six grandchildren Jonathan Jones, Travis Jones, James Kitchens (Lisa), James Michael Brantley (Jennifer), Ryan Thorton and Zachary Lavellee, two great grandchildren Logan Kitchens and Nathan Kitchens.

Danny Wayne Cason

STAPLETON – Mr. Danny Wayne Cason, age 56, of Oak Street, died Thursday, May 17, 2012, at his residence.

Memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Second Chance Independent Church at 1152 Hillcrest Drive, Thomson, Georgia with Rev. Charles Reese officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives following the service.

A native of Louisville, Mr. Cason was the son of the Daniel and Sara Elizabeth Cooper Cason. Mr. Cason was a welder for Lewis Steel in Jefferson County, A member of Second Chance Independent Church he was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father, a son: Johnny Dean Cason; a daughter: Linda Dianne Cason, and is survived by his wife, Linda Cheeks Cason, of Stapleton, mother, Sara Reid of Thomson two sons: Wayne Lee Cason and Russell Lee Cason of Stapleton; brothers: Donnie Cason and Dennis Cason;, sisters: Dianne Cason and Debra Sparks; all of Atlanta, sister-in-law, Tammy Gamble, of Stapleton, 2 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Marie Pinkston (Jones) McBride

Louisville, Ga. Marie Pinkston Jones McBride, 97, went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2012 at Jefferson Hospital. She was born in Ludowici, Georgia on June 2, 1914, the daughter of the late Kathleen Chapman Pinkston and Alexander Gordon Pinkston.

Marie earned a bachelor of arts degree in Literature and History from Georgia State College for Women, presently known as Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. After graduation in 1935, she moved to Louisville, Ga. to pursue a career in teaching. While living in Louisville, she met her beloved husband, Samuel Elijah Jones, Jr. They were married in Ludowici, Ga. on December 27, 1938.

She was a life-long Baptist and a member of the First Baptist Church of Louisville since 1939. As an active member of her church, she served in many capacities. Past positions included serving as a Church Trustee, Secretary of the Mission Society, Vacation Bible School volunteer, and Sunday school teacher. She was also involved in various community and social organizations as well as her bridge group and garden club. She was a member of the Louisville Chamber of Commerce.

After being a stay at home mother for many years, Marie earned a securities license and began selling tax-sheltered annuities for Lincoln National Life Insurance (Lincoln Financial) with her husband, Sam. They were active in the National Association of Life Underwriters and the Life Underwriters of Georgia. Over the years, they received many awards and recognition as top producers. Together, Marie and Sam also fulfilled his dream of building a shopping center in Louisville. At Sam’s death in 1982, Marie assumed the role of President of Peachtree Plaza. She remained fully involved in day to day operations until her passing.

As the matriarch of the family, she led by example providing lessons on life with dignity and grace. Marie had a strong sense of commitment and loyalty. She trusted God and honored Him by providing exemplary care for her husbands during their times of illness. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was our “Meme”, a beautiful Southern lady, who taught us faith in God, the Southern graces, and the importance of family.

Samuel Elijah Jones, Jr., her loving husband of 44 years and the father of her children, preceded her in death. She was later married to E.K. Bell of Savannah, Georgia who passed away after two years of marriage. Thomas Eugene (Gene) McBride and Marie were married for 15 years before his death in 2003. Her brothers Dr. Alexander Gordon (A.G.) Pinkston, Jr. of Glennville, Georgia and Frank Chapman Pinkston of Macon, Georgia also preceded her in death as well as one great grandchild, Margaret Bowen McElreath of Macon, Georgia.

She is survived by her daughters Marie Jones Handberry and son-in law Don of Louisville and Jan Jones McElreath and son-in-law Ben of Augusta, her grandchildren are: William Donald Handberry, Jr. (Casey) of Macon, Ga., Marie Handberry Weldon((Bill) of Watkinsville, Ga., Chapman Handberry Godwin (Will) of Augusta, Ga., Benjamin Farris McElreath, Jr. (Carrie) of Macon, Ga., Samuel Alexander McElreath (Cameron) of Athens, Ga. Marie has eleven great-grandchildren: William Donald Handberry, III, Elijah Reynolds Handberry, Edward Jones Handberry, Benjamin Farris McElreath, III, Ella Hughes McElreath, Katherine Maguire Weldon, Carolyn Theresa Weldon, Allison Marie Weldon, Chapman Pinkston Godwin, Gainer Adams Godwin and Samuel Alexander McElreath, Jr.

She is survived by her stepchildren and their spouses, Nell and Allen Morris of Augusta and Gene and Mary Jo McBride of Brevard, North Carolina and their families as well as her sister in law, Lucille Finney Pinkston of Macon, Ga., brother-in-law Leroy Lewis of Louisville, Ga. and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at her home, 834 Academy Drive, Louisville, Ga. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, at 2:00 P.M at First Baptist Church in Louisville. After the service on Wednesday, friends are invited to visit with the family at 834 Academy Drive. The Reverend Hardy Owens will be officiating. Interment will follow at Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Lewis, John Lewis, Dr. Jim Polhill, Ott Stephens, Larry Morgan, Jim Crawford, Mike McDowell, Dr. Jim Pilcher, and Merv Unruh. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of the church.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Louisville at 101 E. 9th Street, Louisville, Ga. 30434.

Grady Wesley New

Died: Tue May 22, 2012
BARTOW, GA. - Mr. Grady Wesley New, 93 of G.W. New Road, died Tuesday morning May 22, 2012 in the Jefferson Hospital.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday in the Jefferson Memorial Gardens, with Rev. David Boggs officiating. Pallbearers will be Jesse Grear, Kelly Sanders, Steve Willingham, Jeffrey Grear, William Hadden, Willis McKenzie and Denny Barrow.

A native of Pringle, Mr. New was a son of the late Grady Webster & Lucille Page New, A World War II Army Veteran, a charter member of the Louisville Lions Club and a lifelong member of Parkers United Methodist Church in Bartow. Mr. New was a farmer and an Agent for Brown Transport.

Wesley was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kate White, granddaughter, Carla Poss, and is survived by: loving wife of 69 years Nesta Thomas New of Bartow, son & daughter-in-law, H. G. Tommy & Gloria New of Bartow, daughter & son-in-law, Sylvia & Gene Barnes of Marietta, 2 granddaughters, Wendy New of Boston, MA, & Allie Barnes of Marietta, 4 Great-grandchildren, Kate Poss, Nesta Ryan Malin, McCaye Malin, & Cecilia Malin, nieces, Debra & Jesse Grear of Montgomery, AL., Lynn & Kelly Sanders of North Augusta, SC., nephew, Steve & Nona Willingham of North Augusta, SC., several great nieces, nephews and cousins.

James W. Jordan

WADLEY – Mr. James W. Jordan, 66 of Old US Highway 1, died Thursday, June 7, 2012 in the Jefferson Hospital.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at the Louisville City cemetery with the Rev. Edward Salter officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

A native of Washington, GA Mr. Jordan was the son of the late John W. & Amelia Johnson Jordan. He had worked as a Sheet Metal Mechanic at Air Balance in Wrens before retirement.

Survivors include his wife Angela Arena Jordan of Wadley, two sons John A. Jordan of Germany, and Michael Jordan of Wadley, a sister Virginia Moore of Avera, two nephews and three nieces.
