GIBSON – Mrs. Helen Laster Gray, age 74, of 673 Gray Street, died June 13, 2012 in the University Hospital. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 16, 2012 in the Mill Creek Baptist Church with Dr. R Clifton Drawdy and Rev. Janice Lester officiating. Burial will follow in the Gibson Baptist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Story, Thomas Story, Gilbert Story, Eddie Boyen, Hoyt Cole and Joe Dean Usry.

A native and life long resident of Gibson, Mrs. Gray was born March 25, 1938 a daughter of the late Lewis and Esther Laster. She was a 1956 graduate of Glascock County high school. She dedicated her time to the Gibson Senior Center and nursing home where she ministered to the many people who she loved and befriended. She was a life long member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union. Helen was a very kind and gentle soul. She had a loving and generous heart and was always giving to others. She loved to garden and enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William Thomas Gray and is survived by son and daughter in law Alex and Kimberly Gray of Gibson, daughter and son in law Debbie and David Kitchens of Sandersville, sister Judy (Wayne) McDonald, brother Billy (Janice) Laster of Dublin, three grandchildren Candace Kitchens, Gage Gray, Billy DeLoach, nieces Regina Thomaston, Sharon LeFevre, Christin Thomaston, Erin Thomaston, nephew Braxton LeFevre, and special cousin Horace Landrum.

The Gray family may be contacted at the residence on Gray street in Gibson and will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Brando Bacilio Cervantes

Brando Bacilio Cervantes, age 9, of 1141 Catfish Lane, Louisville, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the Jefferson Hospital.

A native of Lancaster, South Carolina, he was a third grader at Louisville Academy and attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Louisville. Brando is survived by his mother, Delfina Cervates Diaz and father Bacilio Avalos Palacios of Louisville and many other family members in Mexico.

Funeral mass will be held 11:00 M Monday, June 25, 2012 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, with Father, Jose Hugo Ruiz serving as celebrant. Burial will be held Saturday June 30, in the Paso Carrillo Municipio cemetery in DeOmealca, Mexico.

The family will received friends 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24, at the funeral home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Taylor Funeral Home 401 West 8th Street Louisville, GA 30434 to help with expenses.

Barney Graham Curl

WADLEY - Mr. Barney Graham Curl, passed from this life on June 25, 2012 at the age of 84.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Thursday at Taylor Funeral Home with Richard Stavely officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Wadley City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barry Wren, David Smith, Richard Stavely, Jeff Fennell, Ray Charles Smith and Eddie Fennell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lyman Gordy, Colin Gordy and Billy Arrington.

Mr. Curl was born April 4, 1928 on the family farm in Emanuel County, to the late John Allen “Doc” Curl, & Alma Peebles Curl. He was a conductor and brakeman for 37 years before his retirement in 1987 from Wadley Southern/Central of GA and Nofolk Southern Railroad. He was a member of UTU for over 30 years.

Graham was a member of Bethesda Baptist church for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Joanne Arrington Curl, his parents, and a brother Johnny Marlon Curl.

His is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Parker (Jeff Lamb), two grandsons, Robert A. Starley (Mary McCullough) and Brandon E. “Rick” Parker, all of Louisville, and a sister, Margaret Martin of Swainsboro, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A few special ones are Vickie, Charlotte, Betty J. Rogers, Ricky, Eddie, Jeff, Jimmie, Martha, Gail, Sammie, Susie, Harriett, Gail and Roger.

The family will meet at the home of Bonnie Parker, 311 Elm Street, in Louisville.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 27, 2012 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Barabara S. Bowles

Mrs. Barbara S. Bowles, age 55, of Berrian Branch Road, Louisville, Georgia died Thursday July 26, 2012, in the Georgia Health Science Medical Center in Augusta.

Graveside service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, July 28, 2012, in the Parkers United Methodist Church cemetery in Bartow, with Rev. Hardy Owens officiating.

A native of Louisville, Mrs. Bowles was the daughter of the late Jimmy B. Smith and Mrs. Ruth Williams Smith. She worked as a waitress and owned the Country Hearth Restaurant in Louisville and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father and is survived by husband, Luther Gee Bowles, of Louisville, mother, Ruth Williams Smith of Louisville, daughters & sons-in-law, Susan & Brian Walden of Bartow, Jennifer & Jason Roberts of Louisville, and Jill Bowles of Lyerly, GA, brother, Gary & Diane Smith of Louisville, sister Kay Deriso of Hephzibah, 11 grandchildren, several nieces & nephews.

The Bowles family may be contacted at the residence, 1180 Berrian Branch Road in Louisville.

The family will receive friends in the Parkers United Methodist Church immediately following the service on Saturday.

Elizabeth (Hawkins) Amerson

Mrs. Elizabeth H. Amerson, age 88, of Highway 171 North, Louisville, died Friday morning July 27, 2012, in the Gibson Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be held 11:00AM Monday, July 30, 2012, in the Louisville First Baptist Church with Rev. Hardy Owens and Rev. Andy Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Amerson, George Ratchford, III, Ryan Guy, Chris Kersey, Derrick Mathis, and Chris Mathis.

Mrs. Amerson, a native of Glascock County, was the daughter of the late Hansel Hunter and Lucille Logue Hawkins. She was an inspector for the Fortsmann Company. Mrs. Amerson had been a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church for 50 years, a member of the Louisville Nazarene Church, and attended Louisville First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Amerson was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy Amerson, brother & sister-in-law, Hunter & Gladys Hawkins and is survived by son & daughter-in-law, Wendell & Carolyn Amerson of Norwood; daughters & sons-in-law, Linda & John Eckenroth of Harlem, Rosalyn & Ted Flanders of Harlem, & Libby & Charles Mathis of Louisville; sister & brother-in-law, Etta & Othene Taylor of Edgehill; 10 grandchildren: Tony & Stacey Amerson, Wendy & Chris Kersey, Jennifer & Ryan Guy, Alicia & Joshua Stephenson, Brian & Sharon Flanders, Melissa & Andy Collins, Rachel Ratchford, George Ratchford, Christopher Mathis, Derrick Mathis; & 12 great-grandchildren: Lily & Sam Amerson, Kaycie & Amy Kersey, Amerson & Ansley Guy, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Haley, & Evan Flanders, & Andrew & Caleb Collins.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Louisville First Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 101 E 9th St., Louisville, GA 30434.

Frances (Sinquefield) Clark

Frances S. Clark died, peacefully, Thursday, August 9, in Augusta, Georgia. She was born September 17, 1911, in Louisville, Georgia, and was the daughter of William Richard and Marguerite Fryer Sinquefield. She was a lifelong resident of Louisville until she moved to Brandon Wilde in Augusta in 1996. She attended the schools of Jefferson County and was graduated in 1932 from Shorter College, Rome, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Little Clark also of Louisville. They were married 54 years.

She was given the unique nickname “trail” by her father and was called that her entire life by the many people who knew and loved her. After college she taught school prior to her marriage when she returned to Louisville and became a homemaker. She was a member of the Louisville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of several church organizations. She enjoyed playing golf and was an avid bridge player, continuing to play regularly into her nineties.

The funeral service will be at the Louisville United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 11, at 11:00 am with interment in the Louisville City Cemetery. The service will be conducted by Rev. David Hibberts assisted by Dwain Little. Visitation will be at 10:00 am immediately prior to the service.

In addition to her husband, she was pre-deceased by her daughter, Jane Clark Mitchell, two grandchildren, Jane Marian Clark and John Chester Mitchell, Jr., and her two sisters, Anita Sinquefield English and Marguerite Sinquefield Tarrant. She is survived by her son Dr. William Little Clark, Jr. and his wife Marian, her grandchildren, Marian Hamilton Mitchell and her partner Emily Jennifer Vaias, and Rebecca Clark Rice and her husband Robert Williams Rice, Jr. Her four surviving great-grandchildren are John Chester Mitchell, III, William Clark Mitchell, Robert Williams Rice, III, and Carter Elizabeth Rice, two step grandchildren, Kayden Belle Austin-Vaias and Kylie Theresa Austin-Vaias.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brandon Wilde Pavilion for the years of excellent loving care to Mrs. Clark.

Pallbearers will be: Mr. Denny Clark, Mr. Lee Clark, Mr. Sam Clark, Mr. William Easterlin, The Honorable John Murphy, Mr. Robert Williams Rice, Jr., and Mr. Laurence Smith.

Johnny Russell Cannady

Mr. Johnny Russell Cannady, Sr. age 79 of Ash Street, Wadley, Georgia died Monday morning August 13, 2012 at his residence.

Services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 16, 2012 in the Taylor Funeral Home.

A native of Metter, Georgia, Mr. Cannady was a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Woodrow W. Cannady, he was a U.S. Navy Veteran, a retired Truck Driver with Star Trucking, and was of the Baptist Faith.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Woodrow Michael Cannady and is survived by, wife Clara Nell Salter Cannady, of Wadley, sons Johnny Russell (Rusty) Cannady, Jr. of Wadley, & William E. Blizzard & Carlene of Chicago, daughter Robin C. Clark & Mark of Sandersville, sisters Julia (Paulette) Wagstaff of Warner Robins, & Sandra Kay Hunicutt of Macon, brother William (Billy) Cannady & Faye of Eatonton, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren several nieces & nephews.

The Cannady family will be at the residence 456 Ash Street Wadley and will receive friends immediately following the service.

Family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Boulevard, Augusta, Georgia 30909.

Louise (Bales) McNeal

Mrs. Louise Bales McNeal, age 81 of Griffin Street, Gibson, Georgia died Tuesday Morning August 14, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday August 16, 2012 in the Mitchell Full Gospel Church with Rev. Jacky Downs & Rev. Cliff Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Full Gospel Church Cemetery. Pallbearers be will Jason Markins, Josh Daniel, Blake Moore, Chris Georgia, Kyle Downs and Charles McGraw.

A native of Mitchell, Mrs. McNeal was a daughter of the late William Eli and Anna Judson Avera Bales. She worked many years in the textile industry at Gibson Garment and then Thomson Company and was a member of Mitchell Full Gospel Church where she was very active and had taught Sunday school for many years.

Mrs. McNeal was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Stella Bales and Ethel Wood, brothers Frank Bales, Roger Bales, Ralph Bales and Paul Bales, two son-in-laws James Markins and James Moore and is survived by daughters Carol Markins, Brenda Moore, and Anita and Bob Foster all of Gibson, brother Bill and Margie Bales of Thomson, 5 grandchildren Lesley Markins McGraw, Jason Markins, Josh Daniel, Courtney Georgia, and Blake Moore, 2 great-grandchildren, Katelyn Washington and Eli Carroll, several nieces, nephews and beloved dog “Sparkie”.

The McNeal family may be contacted at the home of Carol Markins, 640 Lamb Street in Gibson, and will receive friends 6:00 to 8:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

John David Reid

Mr. John David Reid, Sr. age 68 of 1010 Laurel Drive Louisville died Friday evening March 29, 2013 at his residence.

Graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Monday April 1, 2013 in the Louisville City cemetery with Rev. Charles Dennis officiating. Pallbearers will be Dr. J.B. Polhill, IV, Mike Coker, John Murphy, Tommy New, Jeff Harvey, Frank Ethridge, Ott Stephens, & Wendell Stephens. Honorary Pallbearers will be W.L. Blackburn, Joel Cowart, Billy Thornton, Tommy Browne & Bill Warthen.

A native of Winston-Salem, NC Mr. Reid was a 1962 graduate of Louisville Academy. He attended Georgia Southern College, and was a long time employee of WPEH radio where he was an outstanding announcer and sportscasters in the CSRA. Mr. Reid was an avid Golfer and a member of Louisville United Methodist Church.

Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Elizabeth Arthur Warren, father, Spraggins Gooch Reid, step father, Dixon Warren and is survived by daughter, Jayne Elizabeth Reid, sons, John David Reid, Jr. & Joel Dixon Reid all of Louisville, 5 grandchildren, Phillip Lee Laster, III, Adam Eugene Christopher Laster, John Tyler Reid, Dana Lee Reid & John David Reid, III.

Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, age 73 of Highway 171 Louisville, died Wednesday evening April 3, 2013 in the Georgia Regional Medical Center in Augusta.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday in the Louisville Church of God, with Rev. David Severance officiating. Burial will follow in the Louisville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Grandsons.

A native of Sandersville, Mrs. Davis was the daughter of the late Willie Bob & Mary Elizabeth Anglin Smith. She had worked many years as a Nurse with Jefferson Hospital and was a faithful devoted member of Louisville Church of God where she was a member of the women's ministry, the church choir, and nursing home ministry.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Bobby Smith, and a granddaughter, April Landrum, and is survived by husband, Herbert Davis, of Louisville, children, Ricky Davis of Louisville, Gerald & Wanda Davis of Gibson, Rocky & Charlotte Gilmore of Louisville, Brenda & Mack Holloway of Lincolton, Cathy Pennington of Martinez, Stony Gilmore of Martinez, & Chantay & Lee Sammons of Wrens, brother Walter & Janice Smith of Wadley, 17 grandchildren, Brandy & Keith Taylor, Down & Josh Gabriel, Emily & Caleb Allen, Thomas & Leah Davis, John Davis, Luke Davis, Abbie & Kevin Frost, Amy & Trent Culbertson, Hank Gilmore, Jamie Landrum, Taylor Pennington, Tucker Pennington, Alex Gilmore, Spenser Gilmore, Levi Sammons, Zeke Sammons & Lindsey Sammons, 7 great grandchildren several nieces, nephews & friends.
