Mary DeWell Schaber
Mrs. Mary “Rosie” DeWell Schaber, 80 of Savannah Lakes Village entered into rest on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Her husband of 59 years, John L. “Jack” Schaber, 81, died early Thursday morning, July 28 at his residence following an extended illness.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 28 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, McCormick, S.C.
Mr. and Mrs. Schaber’s remains were conveyed to MuehlenkampErschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas, Ky., where funeral services were conducted on Saturday, July 30.
The Schaber’s were preceded in death by a daughter, Cookie S. Williams.
Survivors include five sons, Gary Schaber of Atlanta, Ga., Denny Schaber of West Palm, and Jeff, Dave, and Scott Schaber, all of Ft Thomas, Ky.; a daughter, Bonnie Shaw of Durham, N.C.; a son-in-law, Eddie Williams; five grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and Mrs. Schaber’s brother, Roger DeWell of Las Vegas.
Memorials may be made to: American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, Habitat for Humanity, or Good Shepherd Catholic Church.

Jack A. Tanner
Mr. Jack A. Tanner, 74, of Tanner Road, Lincolnton and Spring Street, Washington, entered into rest Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Doctors Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 9 at Resthaven cemetery with Revs. W.C. Bentley and Chris Townsend officiating.
Mr. Tanner was the son of the late Cleo C. and Lucy Bufford Tanner. A native of Wilkes County, he lived in Columbia County from 1969 to 1983 at which time he moved to Lincolnton. After high school, he worked construction with Hoyt Griffin, then worked for Coca Cola, Washington, as a route manager for sixteen years. In Columbia County, he was the proprietor of Pollards Corner Store for 38 years beginning November of 1967. He also owned and operated Tanner Trucking since 1975. He was a member of Kiokee Baptist Church and the Masonic Grand Lodge of Georgia F & AM, Hiram 051, receiving his fifty year pin. He was also a member of the Georgia National Guard R-cats, where he flew radio controlled drones for target practice in the 1950’s and 60’s and was a member of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Sherrer Tanner, of the home; two sons, Jack Alvin Tanner, Jr., and Ronny S. Tanner, both of Lincolnton; two daughters, Audrey Tanner-Austin (Alan) and Ginger T. Dawkins (Jeremy), both of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Brandon Tanner, Daniel Savage, Jr., Ann-Anise Tanner, Lalla Dawkins, and Lucy Dawkins, all of Lincolnton; two brothers, Curtis Tanner and Jimmy Tanner, both of Washington; two sisters, Thelma T. Arterburn and Gloria T. Harris, both of Tignall.
Pallbearers were Robert Pollard, Jr., Andy Pollard, Robert Ashmore, Mike McCombs, Marcy Remsen, Mack Bartles, Larry Tankersley and Robert Tankersley. Honorary pallbearers were the Masons.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Washington, Georgia’s Together We Build Fund.

Ernest C. Cave
Mr. Ernest C. Cave, 87, of Pleasant View Circle, entered into rest on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at his residence.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14 at Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton with Rev. Paul C. Reviere officiating.
Mr. Cave, a native of Barnwell, had lived in the Augusta area all of his life, and resided in Lincoln County since 1968. He owned and operated Austin Ornamental Iron Works, Augusta, from 1951 until 1981. In 1981, he turned the business over to his son who continues to operate the business. He was a member of the Elks Club and a World War II Army veteran of the European Theatre.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Louise Pollard Cave.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ann Thompson Cave; a son: Robert (Bobby) Cave of Martinez, Ga.; two stepsons, John Oliver and wife, Jamie of Appling, Ga. and Mike Oliver of Bluffton, S.C.; a daughter, Connie Karr and husband, Larry, of Lincolnton; two step daughters, Debra Oliver of Lincolnton and Paulette Sample and husband, Brian, of Appling; a sister, Elizabeth Perkins of Augusta; twelve grandchildren; and ten greatgrandchildren.

C. Keith Murdock
Mr. C. Keith Murdock, 59, of Augusta, entered into rest on Friday, December 2, 2005 at MCG in Augusta, Georgia.
His body was cremated and no services have been planned at this time.
Mr. Murdock, the son of the late Clinton E. and Louise Walden Murdock, was a carpenter and a lifelong resident of the Augusta area. He was Methodist.
Survivors include his son, Clinton Keith Murdock, Jr., of Winter Park, Fla. and his brother, Michael Murdock of Lincolnton.

Sara Rikard Corbett
Mrs. Sarah Rikard Corbett, 88, of Wells Creek Drive entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 11, 2005 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center in Thomson.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 13 at Bible Deliverence Temple in Augusta with Pastor Brian Cowart officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta.
In 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Corbett moved to Lincoln County and developed Wells Creek Cottage Sites. She was a member of New Work Baptist Church and former member of Double Branches Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, Mission Friends, Act Teens, and had the opportunity to minister to women in prison.
Mrs. Corbett was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James W. Corbett.
Survivors include a daughter, Dale Corbett Murphy, and husband, Mike, of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Ronda Winfrey of Lincolnton, Brian Cowart and wife, Tonya of Augusta, and April Lively of Blythe; great-grandchildren, Brandon Grant of Lincolnton, Austin, Christopher and David Cowart of Augusta, and Cody and Cole Cowart of Blythe; one great-great-grandchild, Sarah Renee Dale Livel of Blythe; a brother-in-law, Joe Corbett and wife Mary; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Mike Murphy, Brian Cowart, Brandon Grant, Joe Corbett, Jimmy Murray, and Jerry Murphy.

Patricia Kessick West
Mrs. Patricia Kessick West, 82, of Savannah Lakes Village, entered into rest on Saturday, September 17, 2005 at University Hospital.
A memorial services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. West was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen Cornell Cooley. She was a real estate agent and broker with Re-Max in Ohio and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Abbeville.
Survivors include her husband, Billy B. West; one daughter, Sheryl Gray of Jenera, Ohio; one son, Lake Norman Kessick of Findlay, Ohio; one sister, Nancy Schwob of Borrego Springs, Calif.; one brother, Ned Cooley of Harlingen, Texas; two grandchildren, Jenifer Stillings of Findlay, Ohio and Luke Snyder of St. Louis, Missouri; and three greatgrandchildren.

Lucinda Paradise Spivey
Lucinda Paradise Spivey, 75, of Quitman passed away Friday, September 2, 2005 at the Presbyterian Home after a lengthy illness.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 7, at the Quitman United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Roberson officiating. Private family services will be held at a later date in Lincoln County, Ga.
Born in Washington, Georgia on December 1, 1929, she was the daughter of Dewitt Talmadge and Betsy Flanigan Paradise. She attended public schools in Lincolnton, Georgia, graduating in 1946. She was accepted by North Georgia College and graduated with a BS degree in Biology in 1950. She was married
to Benjamin Grice Spivey in New Orleans in December 1950. She was a homemaker and also employed as a medical technologist in the hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas as well as Brooks County Hospital, and Colquitt Regional Center in Moultrie, Georgia where she retired in 2001. She was a member of the Quitman United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Grice Spivey; a sister, Carolyn Paradise Jackson, and her parents, Dewitt T. and Betsy Flanigan Paradise.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Benjamin Grice Spivey of Quitman, two daughters, Beverly (Chris) Jennings of Newnan, Ga., Laura Spivey of Nellysford, Va.; a son, Russell (Penny) Spivey of Cochran, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Susanne Long Spivey of Tallahassee, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Rogers of Augusta, Ga., and Betsy Prince of Maxeys, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

William Ozzie Ashmore
Mr. William Ozzie (Billy) Ashmore, Sr., 74, of Belton, S.C., entered into rest on Friday, September 16, 2005 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 18 at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Brian Saxon and Alex Richey officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Otis and Lillian Ruby Brown Ashmore. He was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and was retired from BP Oil Company. He was preceded in death by his brothers, O.L Ashmore, Gene Ashmore, Grady Ashmore and Mack Ashmore.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Walker Ashmore; two daughters, Sharon Ashmore Strickland of Six Mile, S.C. and Wendy Ashmore Bruce of Belton; two sons, William (Bill) Ozzie Ashmore, Jr. and John Bradley Ashmore, both of Belton; a brother, Donnie Ashmore of Lincolnton; a sister, Sudie Mae Arnett of Greenwood, S.C.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. SGM Floyd Eggert
SGM Floyd Eggert, U.S. Army Ret., 87, of Old Waynesboro Rd., entered into rest on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at Brentwood Terrace in Waynesboro.
A private graveside service is planned.
Mr. Eggert was a native of Mandam, N.D. but had lived in Tacoma, Wash. until moving to Augusta, Ga. last year. A retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major, Mr. Eggert had served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was a member of Berlin United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Gerrie Doss of Augusta, Yvonne Power of San Antonio, Texas, Daphne Logan of Tacoma, Wash., and Colleen Macbeth of Mandam, N.D.; eight grandchildren; ten greatgrandchildren; and six great-greatgrandchildren.

Susie Mae Martin Edwards
Mrs. Susie Mae Martin Edwards, 82, of Crawfordville, Ga., entered into rest Saturday, October 29, 2005 at her home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 31 at Sandy Cross Baptist Church with Rev. O’Neil Martin officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Edwards was a native of Lincoln County and had lived in the Sandy Cross Community for 62 years. She was the widow of Mr. L. A. “Shorty” Edwards and had worked at Royal Manufacturing Company until 1985. She was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church and was the daughter of the late James Thomas Martin and Maggie Banks Martin.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Survivors include her niece, Alice Thornton of Crawfordville; three sisters, Nannie Ruth Walton and Evelyn Goldman of Lincolnton and Lanette Drinkard of Washington, Ga.; greatnieces and nephews, Robert Thornton, Tracey Thornton Corns, Nicholas Corns, Brian Corns and Hayley Corns, who knew her as Nannie Susie Mae; and several other nieces and nephews.

Lillian Chafin Ivey
Mrs. Lillian Chafin Ivey, 82, entered into rest on Monday, October 31, 2005 at Athens Heritage House in Athens, Georgia.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2 at Lincolnton United Methodist Church with Revs. John W. Pike, Jr. and John M. Rhodes officiating. Interment followed at Lincolnton City Cemetery.
Mrs. Ivey was a life long resident of Lincolnton and the daughter of the late George Thomas and Annie Albea Chafin. She was a member of Lincolnton United Methodist Church and the Louise Rees Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Ivey, Jr.; a son, Donald Hill Ivey; a sister, Edna Frazier; and three brothers, George Thomas Chafin, Wayne Chafin and Willard Chafin.
Survivors include two daughters, Dianne I. Morgan and husband, Jim of Greenwood, S.C. and Darlene I. Butler and husband, Marion of Watkinsville, Ga.; four grandchildren, David, Catherine, Brian and Anna Butler; one sister, Annie Kate Norman; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were her nephews, Tom Chafin, Barry Frazier, Gene Frazier, Mike Frazier, Fred Norman and Gerald Norman. Honorary escorts were the ladies of the Louise Rees Circle.

Claude M. Beggs
Mr. Claude M. Beggs, 92, of Double Branches Road, entered into rest Monday, October 3, 2005 at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, October 6 at Double Branches Baptist Church with Revs. Ficklen Guin and Keith Etheridge officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Beggs, a lifelong resident of Lincoln County, was the son of the late Henry and Kizzie Watts Beggs. He retired from Fort Gordon as an offset pressman, was a member of Double Branches Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon and treasurer for many years, and a member of Woodmen of the World.
He was preceded in death by his son, Henry Cecil Beggs; a son-in-law, Curt Cole; and a great-grandson, Charles McGill Beggs, III.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Kathleen McGill Beggs; daughter, Sandra Beggs Cole; sons, Charles Beggs and wife, Debra, of Lincolnton and Kirby Beggs and wife, Lori, of Union Point; twelve grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Barney Aycock, III, A.C. McGill, Fred McWhorter, Price McWhorter, Tom McWhorter and Jim Neal. Honorary pallbearers were Alton Tankersley and J.M. Holloway. Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
