Hortense Evans Woodard

Mrs. Hortense Evans Woodard, 94, of Lincolnton, entered into rest on Monday, April 2, 2007 in McDuffie Medical Center in Thomson, Ga. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at Southerland Funeral Chapel. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.

William H. "Bill" Dorn

Mr. William Henry "Bill" Dorn, 74, of Plum Branch, S.C., entered into rest Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Heartland Hospice in Augusta, Ga.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 13, at Plum Branch Baptist Church with Revs. Kenneth Boone, Darrell Engle, and John Knoblin officiating.

Mr. Dorn, a native of Callison and son of the late John W. and Ella Wiley Dorn, had lived in Plum Branch for the past 50 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and had retired as a construction superintendent. He was also a member of Plum Branch Baptist Church. In addition to being an avid pool player, he also enjoyed fishing, babysitting grandchildren and attending anything that they were involved in.

He was preceded in death by his son, William Dean Dorn and brother, Jackson Dorn.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret White Dorn; one son, Robbin Dorn of Plum Branch; two daughters, Cheryln D. Pennington and husband, Don of Plum Branch and Tabitha D. Partridge and husband, Lee of Lincolnton; sisters, Helen Young, Bradley and Gene McKinney of Callison; eight grandchildren, Shondra O'Briant, Joey Dorn, Cheree Dorn, Chase and Rex Bandy, Maggie, Jesse and Emily Partridge; two greatgrandchildren, Hunter and Robbie O'Briant.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1365 Interstate Pkwy., Augusta, GA 30909 or Plum Branch Baptist Church, P.O. Box 150, Plum Branch, S.C. 29845.

Beggs Funeral Home, Lincolnton, was in charge of arrangements.

William "Bill" Niemann

William 'Bill' E. Niemann, MSgt., USAF, retired, entered into rest on April 5, 2007.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gale Seibert officiating. Interment followed in Resthaven cemetery with full military honors.

Mr. Niemann grew up in Lincolnton and was a Boy Scout, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an adult leader from age 20 - 45, serving as Scoutmaster in Germany, Mississippi, Texas, Illinois, Okinawa, Michigan and Montana. After retiring in 1981, he was the Scoutmaster for Troop 34 in Washington, Ga. He joined the Air Force in the summer of 1960. Some of his accomplishments while serving his country were: Presidential Unit Citation, A.F. Commendation Medal 3 times, Vietnam Service Medal, graduate of the NCO Academy at Maxwell AFB, AL, NCO of the year in 1977 and NCO of the quarter at several installations. He was also able to further his education with an Associates degree from the Community College of the Air Force.

Civic Commitments include the Kiwanis and was Kiwanian of the year 1984-1985. He was a Master Mason of Lafayette 23, F&AM; and a Shriner. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and president of the W&L; Model Railroad Club.

Pallbearers were Jim Finch, Jack Leard, Ralph Bray, David Cravens, Mike Davis, and Guillame Slama. Masons of Lafayette Lodge 23, F&AM; served as honorary pallbear- ers.

Bill is survived by his wife, Pat Ward Niemann and three children, William Edward, II of Powder Springs, Ga., Cynthia Niemann Long of Washington and Lynn Niemann Young of Thomson, Ga.; his mother in law, Rachel Ward of Washington; a brother in law, Ernie Ward of Woodstock, Ga.; a brother, Chet Niemann of Deland, Fla.; a sister, Deanne Thompson of Lincolnton; and six grandchildren.

Bill's trust and faith in God has been an inspiration to our entire community.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Hopkins Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Susan E. Parker

Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Parker, 83, of Fayetteville, Ga. entered into rest Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 20 at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Mark Olson officiating.

Born September 31, 1923 to the late Harry and Gladys Paul in Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Parker was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and a true friend to all who knew her. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Paul Parker.

Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Joe I. Parker; three daughters, Sue-Beth Bowman of Lincolnton, Caroline Pearce of Manteo and Julianne Bass of Fayetteville; one brother, Lee Chappell of Kingsport, Tenn.; eleven grandchildren; ten greatgrandchildren; and one great-greatgrandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.

Rogers and Breece Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bernard Wilton Edmonds

Mr. Bernard "Wilton" Edmonds entered into rest on Sunday, April 29, 2007. A funeral service with full military honors was held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 2, at Woodfield Park Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan McKillock officiating. Burial followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mary Fortson Lehocky

Mrs. Mary Fortson Lehocky, 62, of Sunrise Drive, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Pine Grove Church cemetery with Rev. John M. "Dusty" Rhodes officiating.

Abraham Hirsch Wengrow

Mr. Abraham Hirsch Wengrow, 82, of Lincolnton, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at University Hospital, Augusta. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 26 at Magnolia cemetery with Rabbi David Surill. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 26.

Vera Goolsby Conerly

Mrs. Vera Goolsby Conerly, 82, a resident of Lake Crossing Health Care, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington. Graveside service were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 5, at New Hope Church cemetery with the Rev. Gary Hillman officiating.

Beth Flanigan Keener

Mrs. Beth Flanigan Keener, 45, of Washington Highway, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center, Thomson. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 at First Assembly of God.

Myrtice Lynch

Myrtice Lynch, 97, of Putnam County, entered into rest Friday, April 13, 2007 at the Lynch Homeplace. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 21 at Providence Baptist Church in Shady Dale with Rev. Ed Westbrook officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Col. George Lawson Ball

Col. George Lawson Ball, U.S. Army retired, 83, of Plantation Circle, entered into rest Thursday, May 17, 2007 at his residence. Graveside services, with full military honors, was held at Arlington National cemetery on June 19, at 9 a.m.

James Wallace Lewis

Mr. James Wallace Lewis, 78, of Washington Hwy., entered into rest on Wednesday, May 16, 2007 at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington, Georgia. Funeral service were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, at Hephzibah Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Danner and Mr. Edward McCurry officiating.

Abigail Christine Ogletree

Infant Abigail Christine Ogletree entered into rest on Tuesday, May 8, 2007. Funeral service for Little Abby was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11 in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home, Covington, Ga. with Rev. Dennis Lacy and Rev. Steve Snider officiating.

Emily Elizabeth Smith

Emily Elizabeth Smith, infant daughter of Jason and Stephanie Cobb Smith, entered into rest Friday, May 18, 2007 in the Henry Medical Center. Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 22 in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Revs. Tom Kerr and Larron Pilgrim officiating.

Bennie Daniel Thurmond, Sr.

Mr. Bennie Daniel Thurmond, Sr., 65, of Crook Road, entered into rest on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at University Hospital, Augusta. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 21, at Hephzibah Baptist Church cemetery with Revs. Bobby Renew and Glenn Hendley officiating.

Bennie Daniel Thurmond, Sr.

Mr. Bennie Daniel Thurmond, Sr., 65 of Crook Rd. died Sat., May 19, 2007 at University Hospital, Augusta. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Mon., May 21, 2007 at Hephzibah Baptist Church cemetery with Revs. Bobby Renew and Glenn Hendley officiating.

Clarence E. Norman, Sr.

Mr. Clarence Edward Norman, Sr., 77 of C.E. Norman Rd. died Sat., May 26, 2007 . Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Hephzibah BaptistChurch. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Elizabeth Maxwell Norman.

Betty Jane Wright

Miss Betty Jane Wright, 75, of Double Branches Road, entered into rest on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at her residence. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9 at Lincolnton City cemetery with Rev. T.G. Hall officiating.

Sara Mann Moss

Mrs. Sara Mann Moss, 81, wife of the late Guy Irvin "Bud" Moss entered into rest on Monday, June 4, 2007 at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington, Ga. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 7, at Lincolnton Baptist Church with Rev. J. Daniel Rosser and Rev. Stan Adams officiating.
